Hello everyone!
Ive bought a RSNav S3 Head Unit System for my Audi A4 B8 2010.
Im trying to find out a few things of the device to root it and cusomize some things in the system. (Root, TWRP, Key mapping, MCU modification)
Do you know a device which is similar to the S3 Board i have? It could be that the Devices uses the same Software and MCU as other devices. I found some Strings in the System APKs where other Car brands pop up.
I have the complete Firmware of the Device (no source) and an update File for the MCU (.mce).
Here are some Specs:
Qualcomm MSM8953/Snapdragon 450
4Gigs Ram
64Gigs Rom
10.25Inch Screen 1920x780p
No Hardware Keys (except hidden Reset Button)
No ADB USB Port (someone said that its hidden in the case)
https://rsnav.com/collections/s3-an...system-for-audi-b8-a4-s4-rs4-a5-s5-rs5-q5-sq5
I've attached some Images of the UI
Maybe somebody can help me
So I found out something of the device.
There's a Quectel Sc600y build in. Also there's a pinout four a debugging usb port. But when I connect a USB Cabel to it, windows says that the device is faulty and can not be detected.
Must it be enabled in firmware? Can someone help me pls
Hi.
Any news? Will receive my S3 unit soon too.
No, nothing found yet.
I've done some research in this. Most of the Apps Uses Programm Parts called "com.mct" or "com.hc". But i didnt find somting about that on google.
I've seen launchers which look pretty similar to the S2/S3 launcher of RSNav. But dont found someting about them too.
Also Magisk is not available for that atm.
So i was able to root the S3 Device.
I will create a script/guide soon.
Found out that the MCU must be integrated in the System under /dev/ttyHSL2. But atm im unable to read messages from it. Baudrate is set right, but i only get cryptic messages.
Maybe someone has an idea how to read it right.
Hi mate, I'm interested if you can share how you rooted your S3 unit. I will receive mine soon and I would like also to root it. ty
You can get the Script here:

Nice, thank you!
Were you able to do some interesting stuff with it yet?

Hey, bro. Will your script work on RSNav 4?

Hi!
I bought it on eBay one head unit with the following originals characteristics:
CPU: Cortex A9 Dual-Core 1Ghz
GPU: Mali 400
RAM: 1GB DDR3
Android Version: 4.4 (but really is 4.2)
MCU original Version: 4.3.11-1-03-615101-150112
System Version: 2.9.5_20150413
Anyway, I tried to update the MCU with the head unit who brought extra settings -> model choose, but the upgrade to 4.3.13 everything works fine except the lights that indicate the volume level, and that is not moved up or down the volume.
I suppose that changing the MCU has stopped working. How could recover the original MCU?
I contacted the seller, but no longer sold items on eBay and I doubt I answer.
Thanks in advance!!
Hi ,
There is a setting that could rectify your problem. You had the setting open on your 2nd picture (model choose).
You probably have to try several models to see if one will work for you. Each time you choose one the unit will set the parameters then reboot ... do not interupt this.
After it reboots try your various controls to see what has changed.
My unit is the 2 knob version AN21-U. When i installed the RED MOD firmware my volume knobs were non functional. After trying several models from the "Model choose" screen in the extra settings menu it corrected my problem.
Hope this helps.

Hi.
I have not been lucky.
The seller gave me the original MCU, but when I try to put it through a USB not done properly.
If I add to the list that is in the internal memory, it does not appear to select .
Hello all, I'm looking for the updated MCU files and android updates if possible.
Does anyone have a link to the files please please!
Thanks
Hi All,
Does anyone know the code to get into the developer options for this android head unit?
Full AOSP on MStar Cedric3 head unit
Thanks in advance!!
Hello everyone
I have since yesterday a Joying JY-UO135N4-OBD, MCU number: TP6735D 0.43 under android 8.1 that I want to upgrade to android 9 because my OnePlus 6 is under 9 and can not connect USB on the Joying.
Is there an update?
Thank you for your answers.

No there is no update and I'm for 99,5% sure there will not come an update anymore now that the new Intels are coming in and the PX5s are slowly phased out.
Eunavi claims they will have a 9.0 firmware for their PX5 units this month. Maybe others will update as well.

I'm a little disgusted to learn that, I should have better information before.
Is it possible to make my Joying 8.1 compatible with my OP6 Pie in another way?
In bluetooth everything works very well but in usb (for android auto and mirror function) my OP6 sees the joying but the joying does not connect to the OP6.
Thank you for your skills
OP6 Android 9.0 with Z-Link is working on the new intel joying units....

I believe you can attempt using the trial version of Headunit Reloaded Android Auto and if this works out. You can try out using the full version.

I can confirm this to work with Pixel 2 running Android 9.0 using both wired and wireless.
It's not installing Android 9.0 directly onto the head unit but it will mirror any source android phone as long as it's 4.1+.

The OP asks whether he can upgrade his PX5 to Android 9. Not whether he can use an Android 9 phone/device with his unit.
That's a big difference and mirroring your phone to your head unit might be enough, but it is always a big functionality limitation when comparing it with the full head unit functionality.
For me the only concern with older Android versions it the lack of support when it comes to security patches by those Chinese suppliers. Joying (and all the others) simply stop supplying security updates even though the Android 8.0 version on the PX5 is still fully supported.
Using Android auto or headunit reloaded does not change that. It might even make it worse (and especially with z-link)

But seeing that the OP may be staying with his current PX5 I took the liberty of suggesting an alternative to Z-link. Seeing as I have hit the same snag as him with my PX5 and Pixel 2 running Android 9.0. So as a reiteration to the previously mentioned:
Is it possible to make my Joying 8.1 compatible with my OP6 Pie in another way?

You are completely right. I had overseen his second question. sorry.
Headunit reloaded should/might work.
Z-link only works with phone versions up to 8.1 with the PX-5.
The new 9853i (8.1) does work with Android 9 phones. It might be worth trying to install that z-link version onto the PX5 to see whether that works.

I thank you all for your answers.
I made a cross on a hypothetical update of the PX5 but if an application can replace Z-link to run my OP6 pie it would be great.
Or a custum ROM ....

I have an OnePlus 6T and I have the 10.1" octacore 4/64 GB px5 8.1 joying unit and I contacted them about it. They say they are working on an update to fix it. So... We shall see, not holding my breath. I plugged in my backup Moto E4 and the works with z link.
What I'm trying to figure out is what update my unit needs since they have their Intel altimont update on their site and I'm not sure if that's compatible.
Edit: ok so I see that I have a QD unit, I reached out to joying to see if there's any recent updates
Hi, is it possible to update a firmware/ROM from android 8.0 to 8.1 using Joying web updates? My HU is Xtrons MCU KEQ, but is essentially a Joying hardware with px5 4/32g.
Thanks in advance

No.
The PX5 8.0 firmware is an ARM64 android. The intel airmont 8.1 firmware is an x86_64 android.
They are completely incompatible. And then there is the differences in other hardware requiring other drivers.

Ok, thanks.. I suspect that.. ja
Im lookin to replace my com.syu.amp from my actual 8.0 system. How can I get a new/different one? I saw that Joying is showing a new parametric EQ in the 8.1 set. And the HU dont have a DPS hardware. So.. Is there a way to take some Archives from android 8.1 to use it on 8.0?
Thanks in advance Surfer!

I don't think so.
And the com.syu.eq is the "visual" equalizer. I'm afraid the difference in hardware is too big to make it work. And I also think that other libraries and drivers are required.

My problem is that EQ is not doing that would be at all. 7 bands and and every one of this acts as HPF. Its imposible get a good spot.
On system/priv-app/ there are 2 folders related to audio, one is the 180000000_com.syu.amp that inside has an .apk called AMP.
And de second folder is com.syu.eq that has the Eq executable.
Maybe trying with the last Joying web firmware to px5 from november 2018? What do you think?
Thanks again for your help.

Sorry. I really don't know. I already mentioned my doubts and have no further experiene with it, and know nobody who has.
Would it be possible to see if the Z-Link apk (from new Intel Joying) can work on the 8.0 (PX5). If someone can extract the apk and share it from the device itself? I've tried downloading the firmware, and extract the system.img but I can't go any further than that for now. I need to figure out how to extract ext4 images on a mac.
Hello everyone,
I have been using android head unit in my car for the past two years and I am very happy with it and I can’t imagine that I could live with standard (non android) head units.
However, I always like to use the latest android version and I am hoping that the idea that just came to my mind works. I just knew about the new method of installing android roms using GSI file (generic system image) which is a universal android image that can be installed in any android phone (mostly the new phones). There is an app in play store called Treble Check which simply tells you whether your device support GSI installation or not.
My question: is this method possible with car android head units in general?
Also is it possible in my case with below specifications:
Device: PX5 MTCD
Android version: 8.0
Ram: 4GB
GPS slot is not available, just normal SD card slot.
Magisk root is available
Recovery is available
Checked with Treble Check and says my device support it.
If this is possible then we can celebrate with android 10 right away ???.
I just afraid to brick my device thats why I asked before doing any thing.
Thanks ?
No ideas? ?

This will not work. An Android head unit in your car is a combination of a "normal" Android device, where they added hardware like amp and radio chips, and communication to your car. This all controlled by the MCU hardware and binary.
If all (or at least one) manufacturer would use the Android automotive project, there might have been a chance.
However, all of this hardware related programming stuff is closed source and the manufacturers do not seem to want to switch from their old legacy MCU model with closed source drivers, to Android automotive.
Edit: I think your Treble Check simply checks the Android being used and the "normal" Android hardware. I guess it doesn't even see the radio chip, amp chip and CAN bus as it doesn't see the MCU either. I guess it is completely blind to those components.
Hello,
I need help to find out, how to update a chinese PX6- Based Android HU.
I have bought this: https://www.ebay.de/itm/BMW-E87-E82-10-25-Android-8-1-SixCore-Auto-GPS-Navigation-Radio-2-32G-iDrive/113662190612?hash=item1a76cb6414:g:NOoAAOSwFfJccWCv
But it says no where which manufacturer it is.
I have seen that all HUs are looking same, but have all different vendors.
Are they just like whitelabel products, and every HU is the same?
If i can update the HU, i would like to write a little tutorial in order to help the rest with these chinese HUs.
I have found a chinese site with a PX6 software version, but dont know if its compatible.
https://www.sendspace.com/file/pfbgl1
Thank you very much.
Most BMW Headunits are from GS, you find the code within the MCU version numbering.
It`s not possible to upgrade from a lower Android version to a newer one, if you have an 8.1 Unit you only can update internally to newer 8.1 Updates.
the chinese do not release source codes, if you want to have a unit with newer android, unforunatley you need to buy a new Unit (better with Snapdragon 625).
Chri
Oh thats an answer I don´t quite expected.
Are updates not possible even with other custom roms?
Can´t these custom roms simply add the BMW-Skins?
What would you suggest to do with this device?
They are quite expensive.

It`s more a question of what features do you miss at the moment, newer units also miss some features older units have.
There are two large Posts at the F30 forum, one primary for Android 7.1/8.1 and one for Android 9.0.
Note that Android 9 is available for PX6 and Snapdragon, anyways it`s not possible to upgrade a 8.1 Unit to 9.0 at the moment.

If anyone can interpret anything useful out of the information below, that would also be helpful.
I found a thread on 4pda discussing this, but thought I would post here to see if XDA is able to assist as well.

Also of note is that this head unit is sold as running Android 9, but when checked via Android settings/CPU-Z/AIDA64, it indicates that it is actually running Android 8.1. The first image on the first post shows the inaccurate information screen they have put on the unit that falsely states the unit is running Android 9.0.

Anyone find a way to root this device yet?
Just thought I would bump this for those interested:
Wanted to update that in the thread on 4pda, users have made a lot of progress with this unit.
- Multiple versions of firmware available, including some modified ones. E.g. There is a modified firmware on there which fixes a bug where the unit would not save a new selection of default firmware.
- Some have figured out where to solder a usb connection in order to use adb and fastboot. This also allows for one to rescue an otherwise "bricked" head unit from a botched firmware install, etc.
- I think they have also explored various issues beyond this.
So thus far, it seems the thread on 4pda has been the primary source for development/user discussion for this head unit. Nonetheless, I thought I would update. Input from users of this head unit would be welcome, e.g. if anyone has tried the new firmware, etc.
it seems the 4pda site is all in Russian I think? any chance someone can post the links to the firmware downloads here? if allowed of course.
