Hello everyone
I have since yesterday a Joying JY-UO135N4-OBD, MCU number: TP6735D 0.43 under android 8.1 that I want to upgrade to android 9 because my OnePlus 6 is under 9 and can not connect USB on the Joying.
Is there an update?
Thank you for your answers.

No there is no update and I'm for 99,5% sure there will not come an update anymore now that the new Intels are coming in and the PX5s are slowly phased out.
Eunavi claims they will have a 9.0 firmware for their PX5 units this month. Maybe others will update as well.

I'm a little disgusted to learn that, I should have better information before.
Is it possible to make my Joying 8.1 compatible with my OP6 Pie in another way?
In bluetooth everything works very well but in usb (for android auto and mirror function) my OP6 sees the joying but the joying does not connect to the OP6.
Thank you for your skills
OP6 Android 9.0 with Z-Link is working on the new intel joying units....

I believe you can attempt using the trial version of Headunit Reloaded Android Auto and if this works out. You can try out using the full version.

I can confirm this to work with Pixel 2 running Android 9.0 using both wired and wireless.
It's not installing Android 9.0 directly onto the head unit but it will mirror any source android phone as long as it's 4.1+.

The OP asks whether he can upgrade his PX5 to Android 9. Not whether he can use an Android 9 phone/device with his unit.
That's a big difference and mirroring your phone to your head unit might be enough, but it is always a big functionality limitation when comparing it with the full head unit functionality.
For me the only concern with older Android versions it the lack of support when it comes to security patches by those Chinese suppliers. Joying (and all the others) simply stop supplying security updates even though the Android 8.0 version on the PX5 is still fully supported.
Using Android auto or headunit reloaded does not change that. It might even make it worse (and especially with z-link)

But seeing that the OP may be staying with his current PX5 I took the liberty of suggesting an alternative to Z-link. Seeing as I have hit the same snag as him with my PX5 and Pixel 2 running Android 9.0. So as a reiteration to the previously mentioned:

You are completely right. I had overseen his second question. sorry.
Headunit reloaded should/might work.
Z-link only works with phone versions up to 8.1 with the PX-5.
The new 9853i (8.1) does work with Android 9 phones. It might be worth trying to install that z-link version onto the PX5 to see whether that works.

I have an OnePlus 6T and I have the 10.1" octacore 4/64 GB px5 8.1 joying unit and I contacted them about it. They say they are working on an update to fix it. So... We shall see, not holding my breath. I plugged in my backup Moto E4 and the works with z link.
What I'm trying to figure out is what update my unit needs since they have their Intel altimont update on their site and I'm not sure if that's compatible.
Edit: ok so I see that I have a QD unit, I reached out to joying to see if there's any recent updates

No.
The PX5 8.0 firmware is an ARM64 android. The intel airmont 8.1 firmware is an x86_64 android.
They are completely incompatible. And then there is the differences in other hardware requiring other drivers.

Ok, thanks.. I suspect that.. ja
Im lookin to replace my com.syu.amp from my actual 8.0 system. How can I get a new/different one? I saw that Joying is showing a new parametric EQ in the 8.1 set. And the HU dont have a DPS hardware. So.. Is there a way to take some Archives from android 8.1 to use it on 8.0?
Thanks in advance Surfer!

I don't think so.
And the com.syu.eq is the "visual" equalizer. I'm afraid the difference in hardware is too big to make it work. And I also think that other libraries and drivers are required.

My problem is that EQ is not doing that would be at all. 7 bands and and every one of this acts as HPF. Its imposible get a good spot.
On system/priv-app/ there are 2 folders related to audio, one is the 180000000_com.syu.amp that inside has an .apk called AMP.
And de second folder is com.syu.eq that has the Eq executable.
Maybe trying with the last Joying web firmware to px5 from november 2018? What do you think?
Thanks again for your help.

Sorry. I really don't know. I already mentioned my doubts and have no further experiene with it, and know nobody who has.
Would it be possible to see if the Z-Link apk (from new Intel Joying) can work on the 8.0 (PX5). If someone can extract the apk and share it from the device itself? I've tried downloading the firmware, and extract the system.img but I can't go any further than that for now. I need to figure out how to extract ext4 images on a mac.

Yes, there is an upgrade path using Phoenix Suite. I upgraded from 7.1 to 8.1 around 2 weeks ago and the head unit now feels snappier and it hasn't crashed yet when using various sat nav apps which it used to sometimes on 7.1. Boot time is slightly faster and I've found it connects via bluetooth to my phone automatically every time I get in the car. Under 7.1 it was quite sporadic.
There is a post on the main T8 Allwinner thread which you will have to look for. You'll need a laptop, Phoenix Suit, 8.1 ROM which is in the post (I've now flashed the JP variant of 8.1 which is stable), Male to Male USB cable to connect laptop to head unit.
The instructions in said post are a little hard to understand, but it only took me about 15 minutes after I'd downloaded the software and ROMs.

Thank you, this got me pointed in the correct direction, only thing I'm worried about is losing BT capability since I read that happens a lot.
some high-tech may support upgrade
most devices can't upgrade from 7 to 8 version. It depends on whether your head unit support upgrade. need to reach out to seller.

That was one of my concerns also, I had no issues though. Just make sure you take note of the config in the extra settings. Once you've flashed your final ROM, check the settings are the same and reboot the head unit 3 or 4 times (not sure why, but seen it said a few times).

You can upgrade from 7.1 to 81 on the UltraOcta T8 AllWinner devices. It's just a bit of pain as you need to use laptop etc... but once you have everything together it's quick and easy.
The only thing I'm not sure on is the downgrade path (8.1 to 7.1) should you need it. Thankfully I've found 8.1 (v9.3.1_20181109.180710_JP3-FD) to be much more stable than 7.1 (9.2 JP1-FD).
Which thread did you say the instructions were in?

You have a Sofia unit. That unit is running Android 6.0.1. That does not support phones with Android 8.x. There is no firmware that will help you.
You should better take a look at HUR: Head Unit Reloaded. It is made by an XDA developer.

What info? From the supplier or the website or on your unit?
I don't see that from your images.
Also: A Sofia running on android 8.0? That would be the first that I know of (but I don't know everything , not by far )
Your 2nd image shows a Bluetooth version of 6.0.1.-23. That version is not correct, but is shows Android 6.0.1 with some kernel version.
Anyway: Even if your Sofia is running Android 8, there is no (custom) firmware available that will allow it to pair with an android phone on 8.x or newer.
Thank you for the explanation surfer.
That means i cannot install any of the firmware on this forum?

Probably not. Maybe you can install the gtxaspec custom rom, but only if your funrover is 100% identical with a Joying Sofia (which is possible).
Normally there is a fyt.prop where the company is defined. For Joying that id is 43. So even if you use that custom rom, you first need to change the id in the custom ROM to the Funrover id, otherwise your MCU will give problems.
And even in that case: your android phone 8 will still not be supported in Android auto/Easyconnected.
So my advice: Don't even try that route as you will not have any support.
Go for HUR like I advised in my first post.
Hello everyone,
I have been using android head unit in my car for the past two years and I am very happy with it and I can’t imagine that I could live with standard (non android) head units.
However, I always like to use the latest android version and I am hoping that the idea that just came to my mind works. I just knew about the new method of installing android roms using GSI file (generic system image) which is a universal android image that can be installed in any android phone (mostly the new phones). There is an app in play store called Treble Check which simply tells you whether your device support GSI installation or not.
My question: is this method possible with car android head units in general?
Also is it possible in my case with below specifications:
Device: PX5 MTCD
Android version: 8.0
Ram: 4GB
GPS slot is not available, just normal SD card slot.
Magisk root is available
Recovery is available
Checked with Treble Check and says my device support it.
If this is possible then we can celebrate with android 10 right away ???.
I just afraid to brick my device thats why I asked before doing any thing.
Thanks ?

This will not work. An Android head unit in your car is a combination of a "normal" Android device, where they added hardware like amp and radio chips, and communication to your car. This all controlled by the MCU hardware and binary.
If all (or at least one) manufacturer would use the Android automotive project, there might have been a chance.
However, all of this hardware related programming stuff is closed source and the manufacturers do not seem to want to switch from their old legacy MCU model with closed source drivers, to Android automotive.
Edit: I think your Treble Check simply checks the Android being used and the "normal" Android hardware. I guess it doesn't even see the radio chip, amp chip and CAN bus as it doesn't see the MCU either. I guess it is completely blind to those components.
I have the Avin AVANT 4 Multimedia Navigation System for BMW X5 E53 PX6 head unit that came preloaded with Android 9. I'm hoping to upgrade to Android 10 but their customer support agent said that's not possible. It has to be possible, right?
I spent some time trying to flash the PX6 Android 10 image from ibus-app.de, but to no avail. The device detects the update.zip on my USB drive and asks to install, but when it reboots and starts loading from recovery mode, it fails with a Status 7 error.
Does anyone know if I can update this with newer firmware? If not, can I flash a different OS on there? I imagine this is a noob question but I can't seem to find much about the AVIN Avant 4 head unit.
The unit can run 10 as it is listed on the site as such:
Please choose CPU platform
PX30 | 2GB RAM | 16GB ROM | 4-core CPU | Android 10 (LHD Only)
PX6 | 4GB RAM | 64GB ROM | 6-core CPU | Android 10 + $49.99

It is very easy. What you need is this app - Mod Installer PRO. Of course like with any other mod, you need to ensure your MCU is MTCD, MTCE or MTCP.
My unit came with 10. What does that mod Pro actually do? Install a generic Android 10?

It can run Android 10. Their Android 9/10 PX6 units are physically identical. I was told as much by customer "support," and updating is theoretically as easy as following their instructions/installing their upgrade files.
The problem is that AVIN is a pretty shady company and wants to sell you a new head unit rather than let you upgrade the OS. Even if was just days before they launch the new OS version, if you bought the Android 9 unit, you're stuck with Android 9 for no other reason than because... well... if you want their official build of Android 10 badly enough, they think you'll pay another $450+ for it. Ask me how I know.
Yikes.
I could have sworn my unit was running Android 10, but now I am not sure. As soon as I get the car back from the mechanic, I'll check. If it is, I have various MCU and software upgrade files I can share.

Oh sorry, thought you wanted to upgrade from previous version to 10. Essentially this app allows you to upgrade or downgrade your Android OS.
For example, I got it to downgrade my Dasaita PX30 unit from version 10 to 9 in order to install Malaysk mod.

Updating to yet another stock firmware will not do any improvements on your head unit. There might be custom firmware for your head unit but you need to post a screenshot of your System Info. It will contain your MCU.

months ago I changed the default launcher to Car Launcher Free by Apps Lab Studio
(https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.autolauncher.motorcar.free&hl=es)
and a month ago suddenly the touchscreen has no response and I cant do anything at all
I haven't upgraded or modified any of the firmware or anything like that cause I don´t know how to do it, as I wrote I only change launcher cause it was an easy thing to do and for esthetical reasons.
I´ve watched some of your videos and the only thing I can share to you about de head unit is the next image and the video of the failure or malfunction, cause the touchscreen isn´t working I can´t go to see the kernel version.
thanks for reading and hopefully you can advice of what and how to do it
happy holidays!!

Check the flat cable in the middle, inside the unit. Sounds like it's loose. Or insert it the other way.
