Port Firmware from Nokia 105 to L8Star BM10?? - Other SmartWatches

Hello,
I wanted to ask you if any of the pros here know how hard it would be to put the firmware from the Nokia 105 on the L8star BM10 mini phone? They have both exactly the same SOC (Mediatek MT6261) so I think it yould be possible to get the firmware of the Nokia to run on the L8star?
I am new so I cannot post links here, so if you want to see Pictures from the phones, search for Nokia 105
and L8star BM10.
I think the biggest problem will be that the display of the BM10 is completely different than that from the Nokia 105 (BM10: 0,66" 48x64 OLED Monochrome) (Nokia 105: 1,8" Color, 120x160)
The other data of the phones are (except of the size) virtually the same, keypad, dual sim micro sd card slot. But the BM10 has no vibration Motor, the Nokia 105 does as far as I know.
So what does the pros here think, would it be possible to see a Nokia firmware on a 9$ Phone from China?
Or would be there a way to add some features to the original L8star BM10 Firmware? But I think this will be difficult because we dont have the source code. There would be things like support for NTFS file system on the Micro SD card, actually the firmware can only handle FAT32, but if you want to use the phone as a usb stick too (That works if you have a big micro SD card installed) you will have with FAT32 always the problem that you cannot store files larger than 4Gb.
Regards from Germany.

HEEEEEELLLLOOOO someone here?

The SOC is the same but firmware and baseband differs.

4GB SD cards again... but Samsung?

Hi all,
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI...80014389657&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWN:IT&rd=1
Some eBay store is selling 4GB OEM Samsungs (or so he claims?) for a pretty good price. Please don't scream 'SCAM!' yet until I confirm that I haven't recieved a card from him .
But the real question here is, will this work on a Magician? There are plenty of threads about Adata and Transcend but none for Samsung (yes I realise samsungs are rebranded at retails, but I doubt Adata and Transcend rebrand Samsungs?)! Note the description says 'Support SD 1.1', so hopefully that means a yes?
Thanks!
EDIT: The listing above ended a while back. Theres a newer bunch here: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/150X-4GB-OEM...hZ018QQcategoryZ93930QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem
got one in my charmer but yeah they work on magicians too. tested on an imate jam using the latest 1.12 rom.
Thanks for the info, but my one doesn't seem to work in my Magician... heck it looks suspiciously fake, but I've tested it with a 3.6GB batch of files and it holds brilliantly! It works on my older Dell Axim x30, which really doesn't say anything good about the Magician's SD tech...
Well its a bit last ditch, but anyone got any ideas?
Thanks!
EDIT: dave, I found a similar post of yours on Modaco ... well yea since you seem to have bought the exact same item, I was wondering if you could verify some things for me:
- That I-mate JAM it works in. Do you know its firmware details? I tried flashing my O2 XDA II Mini to WWE_11200_128_11210_ship I-Mate but no difference, it still asks me to format the card upon insertion, and fails to format it anyway  .
- Also did your SD card come with a big, ugly red sticker instead of the nice one in the pic?
Thanks!

dont know the firmware as i dont have the phone to hand but its got the lastest rom from www.clubimate.com, as i remember i used the one with the lastest date which is either the file youve mentioned or the UK one with the same date.
my card had a green sticker on it, one which looks like its been printed on an inkjet printer and then torn rather than cut to fit the card!
Would it work with the Blueangel?????
Thanks.
Yea I've tried the latest i-mate international ROM with no success, but I'll get the UK one and try that once my download metering goes into off-peak . I hope that it is a ROM problem and not a hardware one, so then I would have at least an inkling of a chance in getting the SD to work on my XDA Mini!
As for the BlueAngel, I can only say that it won't work on a Wallaby (O2 XDA), but then again thats an era behind the BlueAngel... don't buy it until you're certain, because you won't have much fun trying to get a return from a US seller. What I can say is that its not a fake (tested it by dumping >3GB of files on it), but it does come with an ugly sticker... maybe if you ask nicely the dude will give you a choice of colour.
Blargh bloody card! Why can't you just WORK!
XDA mini vs. 4gig SDCard.. Help
Hi... pls help anyone.. bought a 4gig SDCard.. first, my XDA Mini wanted me to format it being unaccessible.. then it got converted to only 2.1gig.. its working though (but at that reduced capacity!). I had it replaced (thank goodness my seller was kind).. but its prompting format again due to being unaccessible.. and cant do that again..
is there any software-fix available?
pls.. urgent need help..
thanx..
Re: XDA mini vs. 4gig SDCard.. Help
Still doesn't work!!! Even on UK i-mate JAM ROM. Now I'm resorting to farfetched ideas such as filling the card up to 2GB and 3GB (still in progress) and putting autorun programs on it (doesn't work). I've tried it on FAT16, FAT32 and even NTFS with no luck, partitioned it to 2GB with no results. A few more questions, if you don't mind?
- Did your i-mate prompt you to format your card upon insertion, or did it work on the get-go?
- Was it formatted or partitioned in any particular way?

Lucky you ! Yes I had the same issue with my Dell Axim x30, what I did was that I used paritioning software to delete the entire 2GB partition, then to paritition the entire 4GB as FAT32... and it worked! So from my view, if your PDA is able to format a certain memory card, even partially, that means it can read it whole BUT it can't format it properly. Hence you format it for it .
a 4GB card would be sweet on a Magician
However, i read on several posts that they have poor compatibility with the Magician; or the Magician is picky on handling certain brands. I thinking of getting a 4GB MMC card [green Adata] on Ebay, because they seem to be more realiable on the Magician from what i have read.
The green Adata 200x MMC 4GB cards can read 30MB per second. Is that slower then the standard or ultra SD cards? Curious, because I've read that SD are suppose to be twice as fast as MMC cards.

I guess you would hafta believe the speed ratings on the cards, hence I presume a 200x MMC would beat the pants of any other flash memory card under 200x, regardless of whether it was a MMC, SD, etc.
Yea I've read of poor Magician compatibility with any cards above 1GB. But what baffles and irritates me most is that dave106 has (seemingly) exactly the same bloody card working in his mate's i-mate JAM, yet my bloody thing will prompt me to format everytime - if I don't, it doesn't read, but if I do, it formats to RAW and doesn't read :? !
hmmmm... examining the 4GB card using Paragon Partition Manager gets some interesting results! Here's the card when properly formatted:
Code:
Partition 0, hard disk 2
Volume label:
File system: FAT32
Drive letter: G:
Serial number: 00000000
Sectors / boot: 32
Sectors / cluster: 8
Size (capacity): 3.8 GB (4.120.833.024 )
Used space: 7.7 MB ( 0%)
Free space: 3.8 GB (100%)
Physical sectors:
First: 63 (Cyl 0, Hd 1, Sec 1)
Last: 8048564 (Cyl 500, Hd 254, Sec 63)
HDD info: Cyl 501, Hd 255, Sec 63
...and here's the card after a stint in Magician's 'format':
Code:
Partition 0, hard disk 2
Volume label:
File system: Unformatted
Drive letter: *:
Serial number: 00000000
Sectors / boot: 0
Sectors / cluster: 0
Size (capacity): 3.8 GB (4.120.833.024 )
Used space: 2048 GB (53363%)
Free space: 3.8 GB (100%)
Physical sectors:
First: 63 (Cyl 0, Hd 1, Sec 1)
Last: 8048564 (Cyl 500, Hd 254, Sec 63)
HDD info: Cyl 501, Hd 255, Sec 63
2048GB used??? Even if I delete the partition on my SD card so it becomes RAW, the used stays put at 0 bytes. It seems as though the Magician gets confused as hell when formatting this card... wonder why?
when i got the card, stuck it in the PC and it was already formatted. Put about 3.5gig of music on it and a few days later tried it out in my mates jam and it came up fine in the memory cpl and in file explorer.
Still no luck... after numerous reflashes and ideas, i've given up on this card. Thanks for all the help anyway dave! My uncle has a XDA Mini as well so I'll try it in his later.
howdy,
not too sure wether this revelation applies to your 4gb cards, but I found out many previously unrecognizable sd cards( upto two gigs) were readable once formatted with sktools.
- No, this is not a joke, try it and lets see whether it applies to 4 gig cards as well.
cheers
RE SKTools
Hi.. just tried SKTools.. I couldn't use its feature for SD Cards, it couldn't detect any SD CARD when i inserted my 4gig SD Card, but it could, when i inserted my 256MB...
But thanks,, i found it so useful for alot of my other pocket pc concerns..
HELP...
Thanks for the tip thormdac, but no luck with it either - doesn't detect the memory card on my XDA Mini, and even if i slot it into my Dell x30 (which can read the four gigs perfectly fine) it cannot format the card such so that it can be read by the Magician. BLAH!
Anyway the seller has offered me a refund, which is either very kind or very suspicious depending on your mindset but I think I'll take up the offer - after I try it in my uncle's XDA Mini on Saturday. Losing ten bucks kinda sucks though .
Oh and btw I also ran the card through this handy formatting tool from Panasonic/Matsushita - the guys who enforce the SD 1.1 standard. It only works for cards up to 2GB, though even when I partitioned the 4GB card to fit under the limits it spat out an error halfway.
On another note: Another SanDisk eBay scam
Sandisk Ultra II 4GB cards don't exist! I was going to report him, but the sneaky bastard avoided mentioning 'SanDisk' at all... plus the 1-day listing makes me suspect that his account might have been hacked. I just hink it's sad there's these scammers around since there are inevitably people who are going to get sucked in by this :x
OMG!
It worked in my uncle's XDA! In frustration, I carefully dissected my Magician with the help of my uncle only to find... errr, nothing. HOWEVER when I partially put it back together (the first two layers of the top-back panel were still off) and switched it on to test, the card bloody worked! Not knowing what I had did, I put it back together only to have it not work again! @#$!
HMMM... again I pulled off the top two layers of the rear and it worked. Eventually we figured out that if we tightened the screws on the rear panel too much, then the Magician would refuse to read the card properly. A bloody manafacturing defect. Peeling off that fat red sticker on the SD card also helped, and eventually the Magician was reliably reading the SD card!
This might go some length in explaining why 4GB SD cards won't work in the Magician while others will - the thickness of SDs may be putting too much pressure on the contacts in the slot, which are already under some pressure by the panel on top of the SD slot. The only difference between my uncle's and my XDA Mini were the bootloader versions - v1.00 and v1.02 respectively - which seems to indicate that my uncle's is an earlier model - perhaps they don't make them like they used to? Note that my XDA Mini reads every card fine BUT the 4GB - I still cannot come up with an explanation for that, considering that this reading problem seems to be a mechanical problem.
I don't know if I'm right at all, but perhaps if anyone is having problems reading SD cards in their Mini, you might want to try opening the cover above your battery panel (its plastic, held by hinges, you should be able to figure how to open it if you're brave enough) and adjusting the tightness of the screws holding the panel underneath (you WILL need a TORX screwdriver... bloody small one too, 'TORX 06').
Thanks for all your help too!
4gb Sd card not working in Imate Jam
Thanks for the tip "toomuchdogfur" untightening the screws on the back of my T mobile MDA has now allowed me to use my new 4gb SD card ,before it would constantly suggest to format card .
Hmmm... so its not a single case after all. I wonder if there are a large number of Magicians with this fault?
4gb sd in magician
Hi guys , Ihave been driven mad by the imate jam ( magician ) not recognising memory cards, so I contacted imate support and got this reply:
Dear Sir,
Thank you for your E-mail. Regarding your query, please note that the SD card standard is limited to 2 GB and our devices are fully compliant to the standard. Cards with the capacity greater than 2 GB are not compliant to the standard and we cannot guarantee that they will function correctly. As to transferring speed limit, we recommend not using ultra speed SD cards with the speed more than 64x as they either will not work or may pose problems later. Also we would like to inform you that some SD cards need to be formatted using any PC / Laptop (supporting SD cards) before using with our devices.
Regards,
Technical Support - i-mate™
So I finally sent my jam back for repair under warranty as the backlight kept going off too and now it seems to be ok . I did wonder about the thickness of the memory cards because some do feel like a tight fit. I have also read on various forums that the jam cannot manage larger than 2gb size memory cards and lots of owners seem to complain of the same format/ reformat problems.I am looking at getting a 4gb card but don't know which one to try. Most uk available ones are 150x speed. Any I mate jam users with good advice on this topic? :!:
Update 18/10/06
Today I received a Kingmax 4gb 40x sd card from Dabs.com £54.48 and it works in my I-mate jam straight out of the box, no formatting or anything. Finally I can hardly believe it!!!!
http://www.dabs.com/ProductList.asp...y=All&PageMode=3&NavigationKey=0&SearchType=1
ps. MMC plus cards don't work at all in my Imate jam ,although an old ancient 256mb mmc card works.Guess it really is all down to the speed. Keep it below 60x and its hunky dory!

Transcend 2GB 80x / 4GB miniSD

I just bought an transcend 2gb 80x card and it works untill i leave the phone for a bit or it has done some kind of acces to the card and all of a
sudden the card is not seen by the phone.
Now i am going to write a mail to see what can be the problem since it
works fine in my card-reader in my pc. On the other hand it works fine in
the phone too untill it suddenly dissapeared. One time i seen this 2 files that
where on the card after it "died" .. one little file and some sort of bin file .
which looked to me like it was some sort of cd image..
Anyone had similar problems ?
Allthough i read somewhere that so called SDHC are not supported i found
some registry values in the device area that at least tells the operating system supports it, so does the build-in card reader. which suggests that 4gb cards should work, but i'm no guru at this matter so i cant tell for sure.
here is a site which has a lot of minisd cards http://www.flash-memory-store.com/mini-secure-digital.html
If you bought a 4gb miniSD card you got ripped off.
There is no such thing available to the public yet.
Any miniSD card claiming to be 4gb are just miniSD cards that are actually smaller capacity with hacked firmware to make them appear as 4gb to operating systems.
If you don't believe me have a look at Transcend's official website:
http://www.transcendusa.com/Products/ModDetail.asp?ModNo=17&LangNo=0
No 4gb cards listed. Only 2gb.
SanDisk is working on a new miniSD standard called miniSDHC that will be able to hold 4gb of data, but current miniSD devices will not be able to use this miniSDHC cards.
Read up on SanDisk's website here:
http://www.sandisk.com/Corporate/PressRoom/PressReleases/PressRelease.aspx?ID=3530
I beg to differ. I just loaded my MiniSD card that I bought on eBay PAST 2gb (with porn RSS feeds nonetheless) and it's working just fine. There have also been other successful cards purchased from well known retails.
2GB MiniSD formatted = 1907MB (or around that) showing on the memory readout for memory card... I have used 1964mb and am still writing, now 1965, and 66. As long as it works and I don't lose data, fine. I could care less. Most of us have hacked our Wizards, which could have severe repercussions in the future, but does it really seem like any of us care?
If they were hacked to appear as 4gb and only 2gb, that would MEAN that at 1907mb, my device would have crashed because it couldn't write anymore even though it thinks it can. However, that is not the case with these cards, and to hack the card to put some sort of "compression" built in, is impractical, not feasible, and impossible without some software or extra hardware chip in the middle of the entire process, thus raising the cost of them. There is none of that at work here, this is straight up flash memory, 4gb of it. The fact that I'm speaking from experience, watching my Wizard RIGHT NOW writing more than 2gb of data to the card with no problem, able to play the video back without issue, says, in all practicality, that the damn thing is 4gb and works. Now if you want to dispute this I am attaching screenshots from inside the device proving this point.
Oh and if you're looking for a working 4gb card like I have: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1100646

I gaurantee you that card will die in a short amount of time.

So what you're sitting there telling me, is that manufacturers knowingly produce 4gb+ capacity flash chips, and then mark them 2gb with a "firmware" flash? How insane is that? Flash chips are based on the same level of technology that RAM is. Switching circuits, 1 OR 0, and there is a predefined and set amount of switching circuits on any chip as manufactured by the companies. Now, what you're sitting here trying to tell me, is by a simple "firmware" flash, these chips are holding DOUBLE their original PHYSICAL capacity on a technology that is a static, unexpandable, and certainly not double-bit compatible. How much else are you going to say to defend this? Just your "wait 2 months and tell me how that card is working"? It's not going to cut it, you cannot make a 2gb card appear as a 4gb and then enable it to fill the card to 4gb. There is only 1 type of "flash" memory that is double-bit, it's expensive as ****, and would certainly not afford such low pricetags as we're finding. Your arguement is flawed. Show me some documentation on a solid state flash card, NAND to be specific, that has the ability to "expand" it's capacity BEYOND it's physical limitations. Look up http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flash_memory
Just defending my point.
I'm not going to argue a point I already proved in my 1st post.
Read the 2 links.
as far as i know there is no miniSD 4gb card. THERE IS HOWEVER A 4Gb SDHC mini. From other posts that i have read on cingular, all you need to do is forat the card on an external reader on your computer and then the card will read and write like a mini SD card
http://www.transcendusa.com/Products/ModDetail.asp?ModNo=129&LangNo=0
Just wondering why there is still so much rumor about that topic - dozens of people already reported 4GB miniSD cards to work on their PDAs and hundreds of them have been sold at ebay. Nobody ever complained about a 4GB card (NOT marked as SDHC) not to work on their PDA - so what's the point in questioning that?? I personally don't care whether these ones are HC or not, as long as they work and hold 4GB of data, which was proofed by so many people...

THANK YOU! Yeesh, how hard is it to ACCEPT that there are 4gb miniSD cards, even if they're NOT made and marked by some big overpriced company? You'd buy a stick of 4gb DDR or DDR2 RAM for your computer if it was available, even if it was with a brand you'd never heard of, or no brand marking at all. Why the hell should miniSD be any different?
GldRush, your two links, point to a specific manufacturer's "standards" for how to make a 4gb miniSD work (when other companies have already adapted normal miniSD to 4gb), and an online retailer (who's not obligated to carry a 4gb miniSD or may not have any in stock). My link however points towards known information proving my point in the fact you can't have more memory than there is physically storable, no matter how you "hack" a card. (Change alloc tables, it just changes sector sizes, compression is illogical and impractical, hacking the card to appear as 4gb when it's a 2gb yields the results we saw from another person's venture showing half-full card all the time.) You say your point is proven with those 2 links, it's not.
can you point us to this topic jimmyjam ?
as i looked on transcend site i came up to this:
compatibilitylist for wizard memcards
now my question is wouldn't it be a strange idea to think this 4gb minisd normal ones are actually refurnished mmc cards ?
here is the datasheet of the card i bought :
pdf datasheet 2gb 80x transcend minisd
so it should be working fine in my wizard but it does strange things... same happend in this other wizard before and after a new rom upgrade.. and in this nokia n73... but the cardreader which is a usb2.0 56-sorts-of-memcard-reading device has no problem with it. I'm totally lost on it. could it be the power the card needs or its thin size ?

SD Card Problem

Well, i have read all the posts and saw allot of people had problems with card, but mine is the most stupid ever, its a 2gb microSD with adapter and sometimes works, sometimes not, now i have put a sdhc driver and the funny thing it works like this, i remove my card it doesn't see it anymore but when i restart he see it almost every time, i do not get it, it does this on all os and all ipl/spl and radio roms... the card reader is clean now and without physical error, and the card is new and working perfect. Does anyone know how to fix this? if not lets try to fix this coul be useful for many... Thanks!
Closely resembling the HTC Magician, the device is a 2.75G phone with a 2.8" 240x320 touchscreen, a 2.0 Megapixel Digital Camera, Bluetooth 2.0 without EDR (equivalent to version 1.2 with additional bug fixes), WiFi 802.11b/g, Infrared Technology, Microsoft Push email access, 128 MB internal memory and a full sized SD card slot (no SDHC support). It is based on the Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 Professional platform, and was among the first Pocket PC phones to use the operating system. It has Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. The phone also includes Pocket Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player 10 Mobile as well as some carrier or provider specific
I have exactly the same problem lol like you .... who can i resolve this problem ?
HAHAHA is back and ok now i put a needle in contacts very slow in all and its ok now lets see what time the card reader resist

Multiple Micro-SD cards..

Anyone have the knowledge to use multiple Micro-SD cards in the BA,
using an switch and and Micro-SD bridge?
Would be great if we could use more then one SD and up the available space.
Or maybe add two Micro-SD's to one adapter.
hmmm, intresting idea.
but i think the maximum space will be 4gb, due the fact that there is no SDHC driver for BA...
seems to be some kind of fat 16/32 problem.
could you post a link or a picture of the product you plan on using, i can't really picture it.
but if you already have something like that, you could also explain the way it works with a pc card reader.
here are some options i could imagine:
1. if you can combine 2 cards to some sort of raid system offering you one partition from 2 cards, it wouldn't work because of the maximum partition size.
2. if you actually switch between the cards and both are 4gb max, i could imagine that it works, on the other hand, when letting an adaptor for mini-sd or micro-sd in and just change the "small" inside card, it does not recognize the change. also, that wouldn't be such a great advantage in storage space, just a better way to carry a 2nd card.
3. if it combines 2 cards for permanent use of both and they are presented as 2 different partitions, it just might work, as the BA also supports several partitions on one sd card, and that way, data traffic between the 2 cards would also be possible.
also, i have to throw in: the fat16/32 in this case just influences the maximum file size, not the partition size. if the ba could just read fat16, you could simply make several 4gb partitions on a sdhc card ...if there was a sdhc driver.
There are a few card adapters for Stick Pro Duo that are for dual microSD cards. I don't think I have ever seen it for microSD to SD.
Hey Chef, here is a link for that
http://www.amazon.com/MicroSD-MicroSDHC-Adapter-Converts-Cards/dp/B001RPEJA4
It is a pretty nice idea and probably the BA will just see it as another drive (ie Storage Card1 and Storage Card2).
Those MicroSD > MS adapters look very interesting indeed.
Something like that would be great for SD as well. Havn't found anything though.
That is rather interesting..
But I think we are going to have to be creative here, and
make one our self.
Before attaching, and possibly destroying, some cards I would like some more information if possible.
Will/can the adapter detect them as two cards if we connect them together. Detect them as two partitions..
Or will it mess up completely.(Possibly) The BA can handle more memory, and will rename it's location accordingly that's for sure, but through an standard SD bridge..?
Can the internal bridge handle more then one device at a time..?
External: TV, GPS, Radio, Camera, WiFi ect. can be used with the SDIO interface, so it may be possible along those lines,

[Q] List of Symbian phone in the US (SD card format)

Does anyone know of a Nokia/Symbian phone available in the US to unlock WP7 formatted cards? I went to T-Mobile yesterday and they didn't have any Nokias on display. I would like to have my card usable again.
the nokia N8 or any symbian phone running the same version os, you cannot unlock the card, just format. I brough my microsd alive yesterday using the N8, i dont have the phone, but i have many friends who works as promotors for nokia, samsung, LG etc. so i tried the N8 yesterday.
the instructions.
you can put the microsd hotswap or have the phone turned off,
the phone will detect the microsd, and ask for a passwork/id (after it's been in a windows phone, the microsd will be locked, and as normal you wont have the password/id).
press cancel.
in the main menu, goto applications, and select office, file mgr.
after you press file mgr., you will have 3 drives to choose from, the last one should be the microsd, and it should'nt show any figures of the size of the usage.
press and hold, you will have 2 options to choose from.
unlock microsd and format.
select format.
that it.
Nokia dumb phones also use Symbian right? Would the ATT Nokia 6350 work as well?

i think symbian ^3 only, you can try them on others, it may work, but have'nt tried it.
I doubt a regular Nokia phone will work. I tried a Nokia flip phone & it asks for a password, but when you cancel it didn't let me format the card. I went through every menu option without luck.
N8 and C5 works, tried them myself, c6 and C7 should also work, or the latest touch screen in the C series.
The Sony Vivaz will also format. And BTW... I put my microsd card into laptop (using adapter) and after multiple tries it did actually format !

How did you get your laptop to even see the card? My PC won't even acknowledge that I've but the card in the slot, much less offer to reformat.
I have a perfectly good 16gb Sandisk that is useless since I exchanged my Focus for a Captivate on Newyears Eve.
Any info appreciated.
I did it on my HP Laptop with Vista OS. Could it be that I lucked out ? It was a Sandisk 32GB MicroSD card (no class type printed on card). I have also heard that many digital cameras can format them so try that as well. And even worst case try this puppy...

sd formatter does not work.
Well... it was only a shot at it. And only a guess, but Android phones have a nice utility built in to format micro sd cards as well.
Put the card into Android based phone (2.2 version), then Settings>SD card and phone storage>Format SD card
May work, may not but there are many alternatives to get the card to format. Just keep trying. Like I said, I was lucky enough that my laptop did format after having the card in my Samsung Focus.
Edit: Also note that XP and Vista have some issues. Read article 40, 41, 42 from this list ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital#cite_note-39
You could also try a laptop or computer running Windows 7.
