Redmi Note 7 with LineageOS bootloop it self out of existence - Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Questions & Answers

Hi, first thing I'd like to say is that I used phones with other OS since 2015, first one was Cyanogenmod on HTC ONE (M7), loved the experience so when the time for new phone came I had no doubt that my next phone need to be the one that utilize LineageOS. For the three last years I used Lenovo P2 with LineageOS on it. I'm responsible for OS changes on all my phones and untill recently I had no issues with custom roms.
I am still boggled what happened. I installed LineageOS 17.1 on Redmi Note 7, all according to the LineageOS installation guide, and everything worked just perfectly.
Used redmi for 2 weeks but I had a chance to get on the cheap Asus Zenfone 6, so I grabbed the opportunity and use now Zenfone 6 with LineageOS.
The problem is I left 80% charge on Redmi note 7, shut it down and placed it comfortably back in a box for a week. After 7 days I tryed to boot the phone to reset it and give it as a gift but after redmi logo phone go black.
I could open Lineage recovery so I tryed to recover LineageOS, but result was the same, black screen after redmi logo no matter how long I wait.
So I tryed to reinstall LineageOS according to the guide, same result as above.
I though maybe there is something wrong with LineageRecovery so I changed to TWRP, went trough the installation of fresh batch of LineageOS from site this time using TWRP and had the same result phone dead after redmi logo.
Then I tryed to install MIU from xiaomi, everything went according to the manual but result was the same as mentioned above, well except for the part where I did a blunder and now the phone is locked back again, but still die after redmi logo. Oryginal Xiaomi Recovery don't help either.
Did anyone else expierience something like that?
And please correct me if I'm wrong but I think it must be a hardware issue not the software issue, right?

Did you format (not just wipe) the data partition? Try formatting the data partition (or try flashing a fastboot MIUI 11 Pie ROM with the Mi Flash tool).

I did format data properly, system and cache partition as it is one of the steps in LineageOS official instalation guide, before every system reinstall. I even tryed after moving to TWRP changing partition format from f2fs to ext4 but nothing helped.
Now phone is oemlocked and without opening it I can't do anything, just were wondering if anyone else had LineageOS dying on them out of nothing, even if it worked for week or two perfectly.

Please be aware that Format data is different thing to Wipe data

"Now tap Factory Reset, then Format data / factory reset and continue with the formatting process. This will remove encryption and delete all files stored in the internal storage, as well as format your cache partition (if you have one)."
Factory Reset, then Format data / factory reset are 2 separate steps not one.
Did step by step installation of LineageOS from Official LineageOS instalation guide for Redmi 7 Note.
Later on TWRP I did almost every format or wipe there is including repairing or changing partition format, nothing helped.
Still be nice to know if anyone had the same experiance of working LineageOS dissapearing from device after phone being off for full week?

can't update past LineageOS 14.1 20171013

Thanks to XDA, I've been running LineageOS 14.1 on my LEX727 for months now, updating to most nightly releases with no issues. However, when the phone rebooted after updating to the 10/20/17 nightly, it got stuck on the boot animation screen (green circle moving right to left on the arc) and would go no further. I rebooted into TWRP and flashed back to 10/13 which has been working fine. Same results after attempted updates to the 10/27 and 11/3 releases. I even tried a manual update from TWRP using USB OTG with the same result.
Any ideas of what's gone wrong here? Anything I can try? All I know to do at this point is wipe and install clean but I'd rather not if possible. Thanks!

I'd say do a clean install. If i have any issues with a rom booting i'll factory reset and install again. If i still have issues i'll just use another rom.

I am in the same situation. Have tried all combinations of wiping and resetting with all 3 of the latest nightlies and still cannot boot. I can successfully boot into a stock rom but, I'd rather not. I guess I will go back to the 10/13 nightly since it worked (mostly) before this debacle. Hopefully next week's update will solve this problem.
Thanks for your reply, islandlife98. I'm not super-confident at this ROM thing yet so backing up, wiping and reinstalling is something I'd undertake reluctantly. I was hoping this was a common situation with a simple fix that I just had been unable to find. Always prefer to actually solve a problem if possible rather than just wipe it out. (Although when it comes to tech, wiping it out is often the best or only solution. Almost always the quickest.)
JBealZy, thank you for letting me know you're in the same boat! After seeing no mention of this issue here, I assumed it was some weird glitch with my phone rather than a problem with the updates. If you've done a full wipe and re-install but still haven't been able to boot into any of the last three releases then I'm glad I hesitated. (That was a concern I'd had: that it might not work even after a clean install.) Think I'll stick with 10/13 for now and keep trying the new releases; easy enough to roll back if it fails now that I've figured it out.
Lmao same problem here with the 2017-11-11 and 2017-11-03 udpate. Not tested yet with 2017-10-27 or 2017-10-20 but that's my last choice because after 2017-10-13 update all links are removed. I do a clean install every time .. What other rom is better ?
Problem resolved .. i have wiped internal storage too and able to install the last version. I think i'm gonna use another ROM because i don't really want to reinstall all of my applications everytime i do an update. :/

Another victim! So weird, I wonder what's going on there. None of the updates since my original post have worked so I've come to the conclusion that I'm going to have to do a clean install. Just need to find a time do it. Good to hear it worked for you.
LineageOS is the only ROM I've tried but since I have to wipe my phone anyway I may try some others. Paranoid Android looks interesting and Tsongming says it's working well.

Yea i'm downloading Paranoïd right now for testing it .. Don't want a broken operating system on my phone haha
If anyone's still interested, I first tried flashing Lineage after wiping all but internal storage and still couldn't get past the boot animation. Then did a full factory-reset wipe including the internal storage, re-flashed, and it finally booted. The first OTA update since then came through today and went off without a hitch so all seems well for now.
I did take a look at Paranoid before going back to Lineage. One big reason I use a custom ROM is to get security updates quickly and LOS reports the security patch level in the settings; I couldn't find this info in PA. Also, I use a pattern to unlock my phone and there didn't appear to be a way use a larger grid than the default 3x3. On the plus side (sort of), PA includes the LeEco remote control app, which seems to be the only way to use the IR hardware on this phone, but it asks for more permissions than I want to give (which, of course, is not PA's fault). So admittedly I didn't really give it a full and fair trial but those few little issues sent me back to the (usually) reliable familiarity of LOS.
I received a new LEX722 yesterday. The TWRP for zl1 is working fine, but I cannot get lineagos working.
I deleted:
- dalvik,
- system,
- cache
- data
- and also the internal storage
after rebooting into twrp I enabled usb debugguung and pushed the lineageos and gapps images via adb push to the phone.
I installed lineageos and gapps nano, but after booting to system, I get stuck in a black screen looping to a dark grey luminated display (no graphics at all).

Sorry, can't help you with that since I have a LEX727 which is apparently quite different from the LEX722. Official LineageOS is only supported on the LEX720 and LEX727: [ https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/zl1 ]. The LEX722 (Elite) has it's own section here on the LeEco Pro 3 forum so check that out and see what they've come up with.

Lineage 15.1 does not boot

So, i've installed Lineage 15.1 and GApps following the instructions provided in the oneplus2 wiki.
However, when pressing reboot I see the Lineage logo and then I'm asked for my pattern. After entering a (it does not have to be the right one, but the right one works neither) pattern two times I get the following message:
"Decryption unsuccessful:
The password that you entered is correct, but unfortunately your data is corrupt.
To resume using your phone, you need to perform a factory reset. When you set up your phone after the reset, you'll have an opporturnity to restore any data that was backed up to your Google account."
When I click on "Reset Phone" it boots to TWRP again and performs said reset. But when booting again, the pattern still does not work.
Any help would be appreciated.
It seems I have discovered the problem. Apparently, I had to format the /data partition as well (not just wipe it) and now everything seems to fine.
Could someone update the guide to avoid further confusion?

One other issue just to check on. Are you running the latest TWRP? It makes a big difference.

Yeah, I'm already on the newest version. As mentioned above it was fixed by formatting the/data partition.

Encryption

When I am trying to flash a new
My phone's data is force encrypted.
I face this problem from past two weeks.
I tryed with many recoveries orange fox, twrp but facing same problem
I need need to formate my data every time
I see
I always face this prblm, just wipe internal storage, it won't ask password.
No other solution available now. Probably it's bcz of anti-roll back protection. I'm not sure tho

From Orangefox thread:
6. Encryption is fully supported on lavender. However, there are different protocols for lavender encryption, and some of them are not compatible with each other. If you change from a ROM using one protocol to a ROM using a different one, you will need to format your data, otherwise decryption will be impossible. This is not an OrangeFox issue, so please do not ask us to "fix" it. Basically, lavender encryption is extremely flaky (ie, you should consider it to be deeply broken). So if you want to try different ROMs, then you must be prepared to format your data partition. It is best to do this before flashing the new ROM (after backing up your internal memory, of course).

TWRP Crashes when trying to flash anything

So this started by me trying to remove the stock camera app on a custom ROM. The app caused similar problems in the past, but I forgot about it. In the past, when I tried using that app, the OS died and I had to flash it again. This time the same thing happened except I can't flash anything because TWRP crashes. Tried regular wiping and formatting data, it didn't work. The regular wipe said it's done, but the formatting said it can't remove encryption.
Sorry for bad english.

Update to Orange fox, last version.

Phone doesn't start after lineage OS update

Hello guys, I had this zenfone max pro for almost two years and last week I decided to change the OS and then installed Lineage OS 18.1.
Yesterday appeared an update screen on my phone because there was a new version of the lineage OS. Then it asked if I wanted to create a backup and I clicked yes and then the phone started updating. The problem happened because after a while updating (the lineage ball was bouncing from left to right) appeared a screen of recovery saying:
"Can't load Android System. Your data may be corrupt. If you continue to get this message, you may need to perform a factory data reset and erase all user data stored on this device". Version 18.1 (20210525).
Obviously, I clicked on try again a few times but it loads for a while and gets me back to this screen.
Is there a solution for this where I don't need to perform a factory data reset?
