I purchased a Qi standard wireless charger with a Galaxy S5 compatible charging pad from the ebay. After I place my Galaxy s5 to the charging unit, I can see there's a higher temperature in my device (not only the battery, entire device including screen). I used TempMonitor Lite app to monitor the temperature of my device,
These are the result.
Before the charging 36 C.
After an 15 minutes it increases to 41 C.
After another 15 minutes (after 30 minutes) it increases to 45 C.
So this will not burn my Galaxy S5 and its battery? It will not cause any hardware issues? Or is it a normal situation?
This much of higher heat generates the charging unit or small charging receiver pad which I connected near the battery? If I purchase a wireless charging back cover, this will fix the issue?
That is normal behaviour. Wireless charging is not 100% efficient and the coupling losses are radiated as heat. Optimal charging occurs when the antennas are parallel to each other, so you will get less heat if the phone is optimally oriented. And some brands are more efficient than others.
But it sounds like your figures are normal. Heat is detrimental to Li-Ion battery life. But this isn't an unusual or particularly excessive amount of heat.. so unless you want to charge your phone inside your refrigerator, there isn't much to do other than orient your phone squarely on the charger.
Also FYI, your temp app does not measure your phone's temperature per se. It measures the processor temperature. The S5 does not have an ambient temperature sensor.

Hi Folks,
Can anyone tell me what voltage a fully charged G2 battery should read? I got some water damage and I measured my voltage with a volt-meter and it is currently reading 3.1V
The phone just flashes 8 times with red notification.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Trev
Hello guys.
I was wondering if anybody had problems with fast charging ( keeping the feature ON all the time) ?
Do you think this will damage the battery over time?
And also, did you ever got different battery stats on normal vs fast charging?
Cheers!
Anyone facing heating issue while charging with stock charger? Is it only me or anyone else facing the same ?
Temperature goes upto 45°c ..is it normal ?

i'm using the default charger (out of box, 5V 2A) on RN7 (chinese rom), battery doesnt heat up as the app (AccuBattery) saying temperature upto 36 or 37 C, once i seen shooted at 39 C (max)
but in any case phone was slightly heated on top from behind (adjacent to back camera), i think it may be due to processor but the battery temperature was fine

Battery temp depends on ambient temp too. It's about 36°c ambient here. So may be that's the reason for heating.

i think it is not normal if ambient is 36 and on charging battery temp goes upto 45, you can also check different phones with different chargers
or you can try charging your phone via laptop/PC, it will slow charge the device but you will see the temperature rise of battery be negligible
keep in mind that charger as well as charging cable both may contribute in heating up of phone
by the way which charger are you using?
just for information (not related to thread) you can visit the website regarding temperature and battery life

Thanks for Ur reply.
Yeah, for high ambient it's ok to have high temp. I thought the same.
I am using charger that came with the box.
Saw many people complaining about the same. So thought of creating this thread.

keep in mind that im using chinese rom (comes with the mobile), lucky me my mobile dont get heat up, same is the case with my friend we purchased the same RN7 chinese and both got lucky because mobile isnt heating while charging, although im thinking to purchase QC4 charger but don't know will it improves battery life (cycle) or degrade it at the cost of fast cahrging

A custom kernel could be a solution for heating, or just charge at lower amps.
Reg. Qc4 make sure u charge in an AC room ?lol

I dont think QC 4 require AC room, as my friend owns vivo v15pro with fast charging (5V, 4A). no heating issues, im concerned because RN7 is a budget phone and normally budget phones dont offer QC3 or QC4/+

Redmi note 7 is QC 4 certified by qualcomm.
See image attached.
thanks for the reply, i am still confuse because of the budget phone, i will try QC4 charger sometime later, let see what happens
Hi everybody.
For the OP 8 Pro, what's the best max voltage to preserve battery ?
And the best max amperage ?
And the best temperature ?
Thank you
Less current, voltage and temperature is better.
However minimum start charge battery temperature should be 72F, 82-90F is better. Keep charging temperature below 100F, cool if needed.
NEVER attempt to charge if under 40°F
High temperature battery usage cut off should be 103F. Cool off or shutdown before 105F
Li's like frequent midrange power cycling ie 30-80% with 40-72% being near ideal.
When an Li has reached 80% of its original capacity* it's time to replace it. Be that a year or 3 years, just do it. It's not worth risking seriously damaging an expensive device over a cheap battery. They are born to die.
*degraded Li's are more likely to fail. A swollen battery is a failure, replace asap.

I use original adapter with a magnetic cable and it charges at max 10watts. Been using mine for 4 5 months and still getting 7-8h+ sot with medium usage on 120hz qhd+.
