after i updated to the att rom update for my brothers 8525 his screen was off meaning the image would go pass the bottom and display a little on the top. also the keys on the bottom stop working, and to top it off every so often he gets a white screen any ideas on how to fix it. i was able to get the white screen to go away if i did a hard reset but after a day or so it would go back to the same way during one of my brothers hard reset he made the reset button go down and know i cant reset the device the button is not there anymore. my 8525 with the same update works fine updated on same computer.
it's a wellknown hardware bug, see here
sent it to repairs if it's still under the warranty or try this (helped me when I was experiencing the same issues)
ok i tired that i think mine is more of a software issue is there anyway to hard reset a device without usin the reset button on the bottom.

I misunderstood, I read too quickly and missed an essential part of the post. If you dismantled you may find the microswitch is just bent out of position. I do not know another way to hard reset. Obviously if you have a warranty this might not be the thing to do!

DO you know where i can find a place on how to take it apart?

Turns out to be a Bad ribbon!
the same exact thing happened to me....i called tmobile n they replace my phone free of charge. what do u mean bad ribbon?
The ribbon phone for the LCD display. Phones that have slide outscreens put alot of wear on ribbon cables. My mda vario screen and touch screen both started going faulty after a year.
Once a good onscreen keyboard comes out, we wont have to slide out the screen so much

Hey all.
I have a little problem with my phone. Now i have dropped it but that was over a month ago and this problem only arrived last night.
Basically my screen loads with coloured vertical lines, except where the start menu is at the top, that bit is fine. I've added a picture so you can see what i mean. The screen is still responsive to touch but obviously i still cant see anything lol
I've tried a soft reset with the reset button on the back and i also tried a hard reset and niether have worked. If someone could help me without me having to fork out money to send it for repair i would be most gratefull
The LCD is gone, sorry but you have to replace it.
BTW, I don't see any picture.

Definitely broken, just do a small test to be sure. Switch off the phone and boot in Bootloader (4Colors) with Volume Down and Power On botton. If the screen still the same is broken, if not you can try to format it and reinstall the rom, but to me is gone.
Today morning wokeup with a bright day,
I saw my phone working normal
I have mahdi rom on my phone..
But theres no issue with rom or any mod is what im sure about..
I looked at my phone..
And im having a very thin blue line on the right of the screen which is probably a hardware issue as it doesnt get captured in the screenshots..
And my power button doesnt work anymore any better.. After fighting with it and has been same since 6 months.. It works..
And the line came from today morning..
When i boot the phone its in red at google logo and fades away n when completes the boot.. It comes from start with blue everywhere on screen..
I have been using the phone like 2 years and so please help me with the problem if anyone else may have came across
Do a factory reset and report back! ?
it does appear even on the twrp, bootloader and even on boot logo of circles too,
so will a factory reset solve it?

I don't think so, it is probably a hardware issue. Maybe you can check the inner parts of the phone or send it to a repair service. It seems like the connector between the motherboard and the screen is the reponsible.

Thank you for the reply,
Hope its just a connection problem cause i cant afford screen right now.. I have used my phone with soo much care and yet this happening is very sad for me..
Hey guys .. iam a Moto g5 plus user.
My display is not turning on. But I can attend calls by swiping up when the phone rings , I have flashed twrp, and iam on Android extended experience now .
This issue happened when I was using phone casually, just like that my display got off and it never turned back on no matter what I tried, like switching off/on..or trying to get into twrp recovery.. nothing made the screen to turn back on.
Please help guys.
Thanks.

Try booting to bootloader and see if the screen is working correctly, try flashing or if not Your screen got damaged by something or due to Falling. If you use a touch and put on screen you can see the display is working but the backlight is not(the light which is project the colours coming from device). You need to replace it.

You need to replace the screen from service centre to work your device again. And if you keep a touch on old screen you see the colours but that are very dim. So you need to replace the screen.
