Can't put display back - LeEco Le Pro3 Questions & Answers

I cracked my display and the phone is 3 years old now, so I was like, let's order from aliexpress and change the display and battery myself, it will be fun right
Few hours later, my battery almost exploded cuz I punctured it with the screw trying to remove it from below, there was like a few sparks and then some smoke and it smelled bad, but I removed it in the end, then I realized they didn't include those double-sided stickers, no problem, then I lost three bolts cuz I knocked down the container where I was keeping em, spend an hour searching everywhere but nope, they vanished, no problem again, now I'm trying to put my display back, the video says use industrial glue, well I got super glue, I tried to put my display firmly to simulate how it would go before I put the super glue, and now I see, the right side just doesn't want go in, it feels like there's smth below it preventing it from going but there isn't, I don't know what to do, can someone help? That mirror-like rectangle thingy that's like plastic or idk, it's tough, sticks out and just won't go in, feels like if I press harder on it I will crush it to bits, what do I do?

Delete this thread and start one with a less stupid title.
the title is thus, as i have dropped my $1200 mobile into a bowl of water on this mobile is stored my day to day running of my company, it is 11pm on a sunday night and i have lost all the infomation i need to pull a pay cheque for the following week, so i belive the title is not retarded i belive it is fair.. lets see what you say when you drop yours in a pool/spa..
cheers

I'll say - "HELP: Dropped handheld into water - How can I bring it back to life?"
Not "OH GOD HELP ME!!!"
So, Mofo (?), does ActiveSync still work?

1. Buy a new exec
2. Sync it to your PC to recover your files
3. Buy a memory card
4. Buy a backup program and learn how to use it

Normally when you get a red light it means that your exec is not recognizing that there is a battery inside it.
Perhaps check the battery? Is it seated right after the fall? could water have got inside the battery? Maybe your exec is OK but your batt is dead
I read somewhere that drying with heat ie hair dryer is a big no no - they need to dry naturally.
I shudder at the thought of this happening to me - but i read elsewhere that a guy dropped his in a puddle and it lived - so maybe you'll be lucky too.
Matt
cool, im over it, im sure its dead, so all i can do i pull it apart and clean all the boards and hope for the best..
as soon as it hit the water i pulled the battery pack off it, so less than a 3 seconds wet, then with a hairdryer on low.. i heated the case so i belive i got most of the water...
now.. when i plugged i tried to active sync it.. it didnt sync.. but windows found a usb device.. unplugged it.. ready to be pulled apart.. i got my t9 torx screws and switch cleaner anti static gloves/cloths also called into work sick,,.
still not sure about the red light tho.. atleast i got a light i guess.

USB device huh... Like in bootloader mode I guess, but I don't know if this would help. Sorry.
cool im happy now, after doing an all nighter, and reading the serivce pdf, i pulled it apart blasted it with board cleaner and soaked all the boards.. dryed them by hand.. 6hrs and 14 cups of coffee later its back up
its up 110% i say 110% because before it took a bath it was looking grubby, bits of crap in the cracks etc etc.. now it looks brand new and works..
now if this should happen to anyone else i took the following steps
as soon as you get your hands back on it.. pull the battery out straight away..
wrap in a clean cleaning towl and gently shake the excess water out of the device
now this part is open to debate
i used a hair dryer to dry the device before i opened it.. on a low heat.. not directly onto the device.. but to heat it..
i rested the device on the heating vent for 4 hrs before cracking it open.
i have to say the confidential service manuel PDF is great thanks guys!!..
after opening the device.. i noticed a few spots of residual crap.. not much, it was easy to clean, few hairy moments put it back together fired it up and now its on the active sync doing its thing, the screen is bright and very clean
cheers guys, and the guys that pmed me, thanks ill return the tools after i get some sleep
Congratulations dude! Now don't forget to get a backup program for your Universal before something bad happens again!
I'd just like to point out to anyone reading this that if your Universal is looking a bit on the grubby side, chucking into the cat's water bowl and taking a sickie next day to get it all dried out is probably not the best way to go about cleaning it. You run a fairly good chance of a broken phone, and a scratched nose from your very pissed off cat.
lol @ shuflie!!
Dude, where's that PDF file? I'm having problems looking on the FTP at the mo. :-/
Guys,
We have a radio technician as one of the moderators over on MTekk and he recommends Isoprophil Alcohol (from **** Smith) to expel the water. Ironically it was only a couple of days after he told us what to do that I dropped my XdaII down the toilet (flushed fortunately)!
Steps:
1. PULL THE BATTERY! It is current PLUS water which damages the boards.
2. If you have one (and can)... pull the backup battery.
3. Hold the thing tight and spin it around at arms length to spin out as much water as possible.
4. Open the thing in a clean area on some kitchen towel (or whatever) and fairly drown the boards in the Alcohol, this dispels the water. Use a number of orientations to get the stuff everywhere - under components is the important place. Try not to drown the screen itself, any water in there will disperse over a few days.
5. Use some canned compressed air to blow under suspect areas - gently and not too close or condensation forms, it's cold stuff.
6. Allow the device a good few hours to dry in a naturally warm, but not hot, area. Do NOT use a hair dryer, it can overheat the tiny compnents and literally blow them off the board.
7. Cross your fingers/pray/whatever and fire it up.
My backup battery didn't survive as I couldn't remove it and it shorted out, but the device has been pretty good since, all things considered. A few tiny marks in the screen is the only visible sign.
p.s. While I understand your feelings the post title really is crap, I nearly didn't bother to look.
Dear Mofotron, sounds to me like your device not restarting had more to do with your heating it up for 4 hours. Next time go straight for the isopropryl (aka rubbing) alcolhol and flush all the water out that way.
Congratulations, awesome that the device is still working!
Is there any chance to see that PDF document´?
It's in the ftp site somewhere...
Yep, this link should do it:

You must feel very happy indeed
If you're looking for a good backup program, I suggest using SPB Software Backup....
Well its been almost a week now and i cant belive my luck, everytime i look at it, i get flashbacks of seeing it sitting in the bottom on the water bowl with the camera flash flickering.
ive had a zillion pda over the years from the palm 1x to the newtons 900/2000/2100 psions etc etc so ive had a fare experience when stuff goes wrong, just this time i think emotion really come over me.
being so late at night at the time 11pmish on a sunday i wasent really in the clearest of minds.. i had to get as much water out of the device as soon as possible, so resting on the a/c vent on 24deg and gently warming it with a hair dryer where the only options i had.. then i started digging in the garage for my old techie kit at like 1am, when i found most of the tools i needed and even borrowed a few off a local off this board!!! as soon as i cracked it open i felt better it was clean water so most of the water stains where easy to remove.
but now it works and thats all i care about.. no visable damage at all, no dead pixels or keys only werid thing is everytime i sync it now the date/time changes to 2-may-2004 3am, but i can live with that.
the sequence of recovery can be explain thusly
retrive device
remove battery and back up battery if you can
try and expell as much water as possible
crack it open
Iso Alcohol everything ( i used isorub its an australian product, from supermarkets, for general household use )
let everything fully dry out before reassembly ( 2-3 days i covered my boards in an anti static cloth for a day and a bit )
carefully put everything back together the video cable cant be bent at a certain point so you only have like 1-2mm or wire to fish thru the connectors.. all should be well if not, im sorry get another device and use it as parts.

Well done MoFo, you managed to recover from a disaster that my wife puts her phones through on a regular basis.
Imagine, knowing that every time you go to the bathroom you have to drop your jeans, then keeping your mobile in your back pocket ... she has heard a premature splash 5 times so far.
Where in Tesco would one find IsoAlcohol? I don't recall seeing it thus far, but I'd have thought WD40 was a pretty good water dispersal agent too?
Good old WD40. Like my grandad said to me all those years ago:

Likely Death to my G1

today was a horrible day...
apparently leaving your g1 in your pants while they are in the wash doesnt work so well.
does not power on
anyone have any idea what can be done to bring it back or is it most likely fried
and if it is done then does anyone want to buy it as is?
I guess this is an excuse to get a g2
*UPDATE*
I guess no G2 for me just yet.
My phone works great now. Did not do anything special. Did disassemble the phone though so I can wipe down any residue i saw on main components such as the keyboard.
My advice to anyone that has this misfortune is not to rush things. I think i turned my phone on 2 days too early but I got lucky and it did not affect my phone. I figured this out because there was a lot of visible moisture in the screen when the backlight turned on. The keyboard was not functioning correctly either.
I did leave it in rice for about 36 hours but I do not really think that did much as far as the drying process goes. Best thing to do is go to a hardware store and pick up a torx driver set(mine was $4 at Home Depot and it was 36 piece set including torx philips hex slotted and pozi) open up the phone *be careful* of course and let it air dry for 3-4 days (not absolutely necessary to take apart the entire screen but if you feel comfortable go ahead). While it was open I wiped down the main board and the keyboard. I did not take apart the screen because I just did not want to take any other risks(mostly because i knew the screen worked) even though there was moisture, I knew it would eventually dry out. But the key to all of this was patience(I know its tough to go 3-4 days without your baby).
the link for the service manual is http://mikechannon.net/PDF Manuals/HTC Dream SM (A04).pdf
Most of the time, phones can live through the washer and live. You MUST take out the battery and do NOT attempt to turn it on for atleast 48 hours, as you will likely short out the phone. Put the phone in a big bag of rice to let it soak up the water, also use a blowdryer to help dry the phone out. However, your warranty is now void, and there likely will be some remnants of water within your screen.
Yep! worst thing you can do is turn that thing on (or try) before its dry.
my g1 hasnt had a bath but other phones have (none with touch screens) and i take as much apart as possible and leave it that way till the waters gone (then like 4 more days just to me sure )
artifical drying sources reccomended (dont get too hot!!!)
I have had it in rice for about 24 hours now and its sitting on top of my dvr because it gives off a little heat so it should help the process.
just remembered that i didnt remove the sd card...
i was thinking that since it was in the washer with detergent, shouldnt i have just removed the battery and try to clean it in some type of solution...
I have read about a alcohol solutions but kind of scared and i just noticed that there is condensation around the edges of the screen
I'd say take it apart, Blow dry what you can, leave the pieces in a warm area for a couple hours, and then try putting it back together and turning it on.
anybody know how sensitive the screen is because i want to try and blow some heat on it but not sure if it will damage it

good point but im on att network using the g1 unlocked...
plus i rather not cheat my way out of it because this is my own fault
good news and bad news...
first of all it powers on and boots fine. Secondly the screen seems to be working perfectly (touch and all)
bad news i might have turned it on too early because screen still had noticeable water spots all over it. The keyboard also just spews random letters and commands (ie one of the letters controls the volume)
other good news 1.5 has onscreen keyboard
anyone have any advice on how to go about fixing the keyboard?
Advise for fixing the keyboard: take it apart and clean it.
ok well im taking it apart to clean it out and i see some residue but what should i use?
microfiber cloth?
cleaned out as much as i could but seems like the menu button is now acting up while the keyboard is still messed up
Aside from parts made of paper, parts with thin films (like the lcd), speakers, batteries, or fine parts that are difficult to dry, you can do a very neat job with 99% iso alcohol followed by deionized (aka distilled) water. This includes most (but not all) plastic casing, buttons, pcb boards, etc. Follow up with a hair blowdryer set on low heat (or if you have an electric heatgun, even better).
Get a semi-shallow dish, fill it with the solvent, submerge the part and scrub it lightly with a soft toothbrush. (probably don't scrub for polished surfaces like the exterior casing). Then directly rinse it under a stream of the deionized water. Finally, clean the dish out, fill it with the di water and scrub with the brush.
^ almost exactly what I did to recover a "dead" water soaked phone. Worked great, and learned a lot about how the phone is built
couldnt find 99% near by but got 91% which im assuming should work...
is it ok if i use bottled water(kirkland)?
oh and the spots on the screen are still there (light and dark areas)
thanks for the help guys

I bought my 99% iso from Safeway. It comes in a 16oz container. Look for it in the medical supplies aisles. Don't use bottled spring/mineral water, as that contains... minerals. You need buy deionized (also referred to as distilled) water. Distilled water contains a significantly lower amount of mineral ion, which for the purpose of cleaning electronics would be considered contaminants.
Do the spots appear to be blotches of moisture? Perhaps there is fluid trapped between the various layers of the lcd.
ok ill go check out safeway tomorrow morning. thanks for clearing up the water thing.
it looks like its moisture because after leaving it off for about 5 or 6 more hours i saw a few spots fade a little bit.
I will take the screen apart tomorrow as well. Any special instructions on handling the screen or even cleaning it?
You might want to search for the service manual for the G1. It details a complete teardown and rebuild of the dream hardware.
some sort of a miracle just occured because my phone is not acting up at all anymore and i didnt even clean it with the alcohol solution yet.
Just woke up in the morning and turned on the phone and worked perfectly, with absolutely no problem with the keyboard(except that i think i forgot a screw and a few keys are a little loose) everything works fine.
only problem is that the screen still has what looks like condensation.
but the blotches in the screen seem to be slowly fading. Gonna pop it open right now and leave it out overnight.
thanks for the help
oh and the manual has a few mistakes in it as far as procedure goes but any person with common sense should be able to get past those
Damn, thats rough man. I dropped both my old phones in the toilet(damn you superbowl, damn you!!!)and both of them worked after taking them apart and drying them off but never really worked 100% the same...
Just a note too, those were non-touch screen phones.
Best of luck.

The tale of how I replaced my digitiser...

I bought this phone on Ebay and instantly fell in love with it. It was pretty much perfect for me, I loved the big screen for my big sausage fingers, I loved how responsive it is, etc. The only thing I wasn't in love with was the battery life, but I got used to it too.
Like any responsible owner I ordered a screen protector and a flip case the day I bought the phone. Unfortunately they did not arrive as quickly as the phone did (within three days).
So I was at work one day and had put the phone into my top shirt pocket. As there was a big spider on one of our cameras, I decided to grab a stick and remove it. I found a nice stick that I liked and threw it up in the air while walking towards the camera whistling. It was a nice sunny day and I was in a good mood, what a perfect morning. Or so I thought.
I threw the stick a little too ambitiously into the air and couldn't quite manage to catch it. It dropped on the ground in front of me. Still in good spirits and still whistling, I bent down to pick it up.
*Flap!*
All of the sudden my good mood was gone and I'm pretty sure a dark cloud swiftly moved in front of the sun.
My new shiny Desire HD was lying on the ground. Face down.
I stood there for what may have been twenty seconds, but felt like an eternity, not sure whether I dared picking up the phone. Finally I summoned enough courage to do so. To my disappointment I had to realise my worst fear, the digitiser on the phone was smashed into a hundred pieces.
For the remainder of the work day I was in a very foul mood and really quite angry with the guiltless spider.
When I arrived home karma had played a cruel joke on me and had delivered the screen protector and flip cover in my absence.
I soon started researching how to replace the digitiser and finally found a disassembly guide on the internet. It seemed somewhat complicated and had a very annoying voice doing the narration, but I ignored these signs of impending doom and pushed on. Some of my conviction that I could do it stemmed from knowing that I was quite nimble (with the exception of stick throwing).
I ordered a digitiser off Ebay and checked my mailbox twice daily for the next two weeks or so. Finally it had arrived.
I had the majority of the tools ready thought I would need, the rest I would improvise. I did not have a metal strip as was mentioned that I would need, but I found an old floppy disk and cut up the metal cover which gave me something that looked remarkably similar to what was in the video.
It took a lot of effort and a lot of pausing, rewinding and replaying the youtube video but I finally got to the stage that I had removed all parts except for the LCD and the broken digitiser.
I put the metal strip into it as demonstrated in the video. The tactile response was poor and I hoped that I had cut what I needed to cut. I spent a good half hour doing this. Then, as I did not a have an oven that I could regulate perfectly, I decided that I would take two new condoms. I washed them and dried them to get rid of the lubricant and put the screen assembly first into one and then into the other. I started the kettle and made sure that my water had exactly 60 degrees. I then dropped the wrapped package into it and let it sit for 10 minutes. I took it out and tried to remove the digitiser to no avail. Back in it went at 65 degrees for 10 minutes. Still nothing.
Then I had the idea that it might be easier to take the digitiser out piece by piece. I took a very small screw driver and took out piece after piece. This must have taken me at least an hour, but I finally got the top layer of it out. When this was done, I had a little more space to play with and I decided that I would try to cut it out from the top. It was looking really quite good and the entire assembly started moving out, but on my final cut, I noticed that I had severed the LCD cable.
After this I continued to try and cut it out, but I realised that I hadn't been as close to getting it out as I had thought. I put it into the oven which was around 70 degrees, just as an experiment. I could still not get the glue to relinquish its hold of the LCD screen.
Grumpily, I took a larger screwdriver and levered the LCD screen out. It bent but didn't crack in the process. Maybe this is what I should have done in the first place? (Not that I would recommend it)
Back on Ebay I went and ordered a new LCD screen.
Today it finally arrived. I attached the new digitiser to the new LCD screen and then started the video yet again to see how to reassemble the phone. Unfortunately it was very hard to do this as the video was in the wrong order. I downloaded the video off youtube and reversed it. Interestingly the voice was much less annoying in reverse.
During the reassembly process I wanted to blow some lint off the screen that had landed on it, along with the lint I blew the box of screws off my desk. After a good ten minutes of searching I had found all but one of the screws. I figured that it had been swallowed forever by the carpet as even my rare earth magnets couldn’t find it, or the underpants gnomes had taken hold of it somehow.
If I had thought disassembling the phone was hard, I was in for a rude awakening. Reassembling it was extremely difficult. After using what felt like a good metre of sticky tape, I finally managed to get everything back together. I figured that the missing screw probably wasn’t doing anything important anyway.
The only problem that I appeared to have was that I hadn’t glued the digitiser back in place and it was constantly in danger of falling out of the phone. I decided that I would the phone into another case that I had bought while waiting for the first one. This was a silicon case and should force the digitiser to stay inside the phone.
First I wanted to test the phone however. I put in an old sim card, my memory card and started it up. My heart nearly skipped a beat when I saw “HTC” appear on the screen. Strangely it stayed there for some time. I sighed loudly and took the battery cover off.
Checking it, I couldn’t see anything that I had done wrong. So I put it all back together and turned it on again. Again the “HTC” appeared and after a while the booting logo followed. The phone simply took a while as it was a new sim card.
When android started up, I tested features and they all seemed to work except for the reception, I just couldn’t get any. I already saw me having to buy a new phone, but then realised that I was being an idiot and that I should put my current sim card into it.
After doing so, everything worked perfectly. I was very happy. Even my plan to keep the digitiser affixed to the phone with the cover worked well.
In Conclusion: It is possible to replace the digitiser (along with the LCD), but it is very difficult.
Nice story

[Q] Vibrating motor

I need tips on gluing down this piece of plastic that's for the camera flash that runs into the vibrating motor when it comes loose, I tried super glue but it didn't adhere at all to the phone or the flash after 15 minutes, and wiped up 100% clean with a piece of cloth
I've got everything from Epoxy, Crazy glue, probably some other stuff that I can't think of off the top of my head. will probably end up having to mix together a bit of epoxy won't I? don't really care to send it in for repairs, would rather fix it myself and not have to wait a week or 2, no backup phone D:
i've run into this problem TWICE so far...
first time was about 7-8 months ago...opened up my HD2 (after viewing the disassembly video) and pushed the flash cover back into its place. it clicks into place, with four "pegs" (one on each corner of the flash cover).
about 10 days ago, it fell back in...again! it was probably because my friend was rolling and turning and flipping my "precious" in his hands. so i figured, i can train myself to not apply pressure on the flash cover...but what the hell do i do about fidgety individuals who aren't so careful with my HD2?
i opened it up, this time i removed the flash cover and took a good long look at it. notice there is a depressed border along the circumference of the flash cover when looking at the cover's "outside" face. i took a dab of super glue and let it stretch into a "string", which i then laid down on the depressed border along the circumference. then i quickly snapped the flash cover back into its place...the "pegs" felt more snug this time...i hope it takes!
anyway, thats what i have done, only been 10 days...if you want to give super glue another shot using my method, only advice i can give is to keep the glue AWAY from the dark grey casing of the HD2 and to keep the glue AWAY from the areas of the flash cover where the flash shines through. both of these surfaces seem to deform easily due to the super glue's chemical properties. i got glue on a small 0.2mm x 0.2mm area on the flash cover that is visible after reassembly if one looks closely.
EDIT: i should add that when i say "super glue", i am actually talking about a local product manufactured here called "elfy", which i always though was a knock-off of super glue. this stuff doesn't wipe off with a cloth after 15 mins...so there is something different between the "elfy" i'm using and your "super glue"

Accidentally wet my LGv20

Alright, so today I decided to go swimming with my family, put on my swimming trunks, put my phone in my pocket and went outside to have a little cookout. Me being completely distracted and not realizing I had my phone in my pocket, I sat on one of the first step of the pool which is only like half an inch deep at most and quickly within a second realized I had my phone in my pocket and it got somewhat wet (Thank god it didn't submerge, just some water seeped through) and when I left my phone in the table to dry up as it was one hell of a hot day, I decided for whatever reason "The water will evaporate from the heat, should be fine later on", so I decided to go on with the day. Now about ~7-9 hours later I turned on my phone and thank god it is responsive and works, but the screen is quite white (I can still do normal things just fine, I can browse the web, watch videos kinda, and play games, just the screen is quite white now, so it makes it harder to see), so I was wondering what I could do to possibly fix this? Thanks.

Oh and also, yes I did remove the battery and case and left it separated from each other to evaporate any remaining water (Cleaned it off with my shirt lightly as we had nothing really to actually dry it with that was soft)
Also, the water damage sticker is still normal, not red or anything.
I'd say it's a waiting game, hoping maybe over the next few days it dries out fully. To me it sounds like there's still moisture in the screen and / or digitizer.
Did you do the usual, placing it in a bag with raw rice. Supposedly it helps pull out the moisture.
I've had many phone take a complete dip, and only once did one not survive.
Good luck!

No, we sadly for whatever reason did not have rice.
Also, it's mostly just a large vertical line probably like 3-4cm in width and covering the entire screen.
You might be okay, you might not. My LG G3 got a tiny bit of snow in the headphone jack and it thought headphones were attached even hours later when it was dry. In attempting to use isopropyl to clean the contacts, some must have got under the screen which caused the screen to have a lighter section in it permanently, although it did get much better with time. I am going out on a limb but I think your white section might improve in the next few weeks but I won't say it will go away completely. However, if it bothers you, the screen digitizer housing assembly is under $100 and very easy to replace with a small screwdriver and something to pry the plastic apart. I used etradesupply for phone repair because I've found that they have parts that are indistinguishable (for the amateur like me) from OEM parts. https://www.etradesupply.com/lg-v20-lcd-screen-and-digitizer-assembly-with-front-housing-black.html
