Android 10 lag/freezes - OnePlus 5 Questions & Answers

Hi all,
I recently updated from Oxygen OS 9.0.11 to 10.0.0, wiping data during the process. modifications are TWRP/Magisk/blu_spark kernel.
When on 9.0.x I used to suffer from the fairly frequent laggy behaviour ... I haven't seen this since on 10, however more often an app (especially Chrome) seems to freeze for several seconds (maybe up to 10) before continuing.
There are also a couple of places, especially the task switcher that feels laggy.
Has anyone else experienced this behaviour / got any suggestions for a possible resolution?

So far everything is smooth, but I also do have Chrome freezes that I had not before OOS 10.

I advise to you using the Chrome fork "Kiwi Browser", Theme, Settings, and you can install all Chrome extensions even on Android (Nano Adblocker/Defender)

Hardware vs. software

Hi there, on my second vibrant. I'm having some issues with this one and I need help determining if they are hardware related.
I'm running 3 homescreens with:
Beautiful widgets
Pure messenger widget
Switch pro
Pandora
I'm also running launcher pro.
I have some major lag problems when launching apps. It takes a minute or so to open most apps, plus I get a lot of black screens. I've factory reset the phone twice and the issues go away for a while on stock settings but the phone starts to lag a bit as I load apps.
Any ideas?
I might just return it....even though the phone runs ok on stock settings, might have a hard time returning it.

most likely software.. and related to one of the apps you have dl'd. as you said in your post, the phone works fine stock and doesnt start to act up until you load apps.
i would suggest you just install your apps one by one and have a small testing phase between each one. then when it starts lagging you will know what app to avoid.
Wait did this happen on both phones. Even if not, still sounds like something you've done to the phone. I would root and run autostarts to prevent certain items from opening. It's all in the sticky if you want to try.
Its both, look into the lag fix. Launcherpro + all widgets are running off the internal sd along with the appdata (thats moved in the lag fix) and with the poor performing I/O of the internal sd, it lags. The stock launcher + samsung apps is built into the system dir (internal nand) so doesn't lag as bad.
No, I returned the first phone because the homekey wasn't working.
Once the apps do manage to load, I notice that there isn't anything I can do to slow the phone down. Certainly seems more and more like a software bug...Maybe Launcher Pro isn't playing nice (even though I've reinstalled it a few times, and after factory reset). That or the Pure Messenger widget (scrollable) is what's screwing everything up. It worked fine on my Mytouch 3gs though...We'll see.
I'll add apps one by one until I find the culprit.
OK, thus far installed ADW instead of Launcher Pro...
Everything seems to work really well thus far. ADW seems to handle scrollable pure messenger widget much better than Launcher Pro. I think that was the source of my incredible lag.
Still testing, but has anyone else had issues with the scrollable pure messenger widget and Launcher Pro?

Stopping Device Slow Downs (Sluggish Performance)

After some pain at the hands of sluggish performance on my new Shield Tablet to the point where it won't even turn on (soft reset required) I have discovered the following causing problems:
1. Older versions of Folder Organiser (specifically the version on Amazon App Store) slows the tab down considerably
2. Amazon apps being moved to SD. Basically don't do it for any Amazon app
Please add your own discoveries to this thread.
Soundcloud seems to be buggy on 5.0 I have had some freezes with it on several devices
PicSay Pro leaves artifacts all over the screen when it's used. I find it almost impossible to use it for simple tasks like cropping an image now.
Dolphin Browser is slow. Unnaturally "this can't be my WiFi" slow.
Apps on Android don't age as gracefully as on Windows. Even when the developer updates them occasionally, often OS changes, like what I presume is a shift from Dalvik to ART, can be crippling.

I am really struggling to find stable performance on the tablet. It seems to jam up for no reason and require soft reset to get working again, at least twice a day.
Has anyone else moved apps to SD card? did it give you any problems? - This is the only thing I can think of beyond hardware faults.

Phone works slowly, what is the most lightweight ROM I can use?

Hi
About 6 months ago I switched away from the stock ROM to Cyanogen to improve phone performance.
With stock rom, the performance was really bad. Switching tasks would take ages. Scrolling facebook would lag, starting apps etc.
After switching to CyanogenMod things seemed to work faster, however I've noticed that about 2 weeks after a new rom is flashes the phone starts lagging again. Currently I'm running a nightly build of Cyanogen 12.1 (android 5.1.1).
The performance is bad, switching tasks takes ages, loading new apps and what not.
I don't use the phone for anything other than WhatsApp, Facebook and emails.
I need a suggestion for a lightweight rom that has the best performance. I don't need any fancy widgets. Just have the base android 5.1 features.
Could it be that Google Now launcher causing the performance hit?

Constant UI crashes on SM-N910U

Hi there
Can you help me confirm that my phone have broken hardware or something?
I have try 6 different ROM's 5.0 and 5.1. Custom and official. Did all wipes, factory restets etc. Everywhere I had constant crashes in some application like Viber, Firefox, Moonreader, AnkiDroid and Weatherbomb.
Some ROM's had constant crashes in google account setup and TouchWiz.
I have S5 with 5.0 official and all these apps works fine there.
All applications crash traces have same error: EGL_BAD_ALLOC during rendering.
So i think there is something with GPU and this affects application which use GPU for UI.
I have try once Kitkat 4.4.4 and there everything worked fine for some time but then I had weird issues with broken disappearing text in UI of many applications so again ROM is unusable and again graphics problem.
So does anyone have any similar note 4 issues or this is just my broken phone?
Thank you.

Downgrading from Android 11

Hello there.
Some time ago I decided to go from Paranoid Android 10 (Quartz) to Pixel Experience+ (Android 11)
I've noticed that my phone is lagging while scrolling web pages and also PDF files and when trying to switch apps. The apps switching lag happens when I press recents, it takes like 1, 1.5 seconds to actually toggle the apps list. Then this last week I decided to clean flash POSP (Potato Open Sauce Project, Android 11) to see if it was the ROM that was causing stutter/lag/frame drop while scrolling and switching apps, only to my discontentment.
The issues are still here.
I've tried wiping cache through TWRP, I think it indeed helped a bit (the lagging duration now is shorter. Sometimes it lasted 5 seconds or so, while scrolling up and down).
So I decided to go back to Android 10 to see if it helps.
How can I downgrade?
My firmware are already at 10.0.1 (last).
Also if anyone could help with these questions:
Which is a great kernel to go with?
What are other Custom ROMs that are worth testing? Aside from those mentioned in the post and LineageOS.
Thanks in advance for any help!
