It never ceases to amaze me the type of dickheads that be on xda! If you aint gonna help dude out by posting legitimate links, then don't post anything at all.
well, i never ceases to amaze me how people these days just EXPECT someone to bow down and do everything for them.
if you know what youre looking for find it and make it work. this isnt the 8th grade anymore, nobody's going to hold your hand and do it for you.
these guys gave him plenty of suggestions and program names.
heres another good one, its available on the marketplace for FREE

this one is especially good because you back everything up online.
if you find your phone or get a new one you just download everything back onto it.

Too many 'tards on this forum clogging the pages.
I mean, who'd be so green to think they're getting their phone back after it's stolen? The police aren't interested in your car when it gets taken, even if it is an "expensive one". And your phone costs less than a single tyre for that car.
And if you're thinking of getting it back yourself then you'll have to be pretty 'ard. In fact so 'ard that no one would steal it in the first place lol
Anyway, I don't know about your country's (I have my suspicions) TMobile but in my land when you report a phone stolen ALL of the networks block it. So anyone who knows their s**t will take it to another country to sell.
So how much do you want to spend on airplane tickets ?
Why not just get insurance, it's worked for car owners before. Or you could try not worrying about it, maybe you'll lead a happier life lol

Which of these will default to tower or triangulated location if no GPS fix available? I use Terminator but it requires GPS lock. Looking for alternative to AT&T FamilyMap that will try to use GPS but still provide a position circle if GPS cannot lock. Need to track Tilt 2, Fuze, and Moto Tundra (non WM). Don't even mind payng for an app (one-time) versus $15/month for FamilyMap.

Need to Flash my Evo 4G for the Carribean Will Pay $$!!

Hello Peeps
I'm gunna b going to the island Antigua soon in January and would like to know if there's anyone out there that can flash an EVO 4G so I can use my phone while im in the islands. FYI: im gunna b there for quite sum time in case ur wondering
P.S. Also I heard there's a service called lime that's offered there i know this is a cdma fone and that only GSM phones work there I'm not retarded, I'm also aware that CDMA fones are no good there but I would pay u if u can find me a way , like I always say when there's a will there's always a dam way.

You answered your own question. CDMA phones are no good there. There is no way around that.
On a side note, PLEASE use punctuation and spelling correctly. It doesn't make you look very bright when you talk like that. It could be just me, but I find stuff like that REALLY annoying. ._.
Instead of paying someone for a solution that won't appear anytime soon, why don't you just spend that money on a gsm phone and buy the sim cards for service over there? Is it the 4G service that you want or the wifi tethering you were hoping to utilize?

Do a search for a VOIP solution in these forums. I remember reading where someone went to Belize and was able to mod their EVO to work there. Similar situation to yours.
To the lame people who commented that it's impossible: Advancement is only made when it is believed that there is an answer and that is possible. Then you have to keep searching until you find that answer. Don't expect it to be handed to you. Saying something is impossible without trying is just plain lazy. Let go of your mother's tit!

I always use brightroam.com whenever I go overseas.
You can rent everything and have a blackberry or cheapo phone already setup to use over there. It's signficantly cheaper then getting service when you arrive. They mail you the phone, you set it up and take it with you. Plus you can always google coupon codes w/ them. "15AEREWARD" gets you $15 off.

Even with VOIP he's regulated to only WiFi which is a pretty shoddy solution. But hey, that might be good enough for him.
As far as saying it's lame to think it's impossible, unless you open the EVO and physically change the radio, and then update the software to reflect that change, it is. So sure it's not 100% impossible, just impracticable and almost impossible. But hey, now I know who to go to when I want my XBox 360 to play PS3 games.

So don't pursue running cdma on a gsm network. You can run a VOIP hack. That has been done. The point is I see people respond frequently with "that's not possible" when the truth is they just don't know the answer. People are hacking their phones to run on Verizon and boost mobile. What if people had said "that's impossible" before someone found the answer? Pretty dumb.
The point of my post was that it is not constructive to say that it is impossible. The reason for these forums is to help each other find the answers we need.

[Q] GSM Scrambler bypass.. Challenge for you!?

Hi all,
My school is going to import GSM scramblers in order to block all cell phone signals (including GSM, CDMA, 3G and more I think)
First off-
I want to know if this is illegal (in the Netherlands) I've already googled and searched the whole forum but no real results.
The school it self says this is legal as they are also going to provide parents special codes that will allow the them to contact their children for emergency calls.
However here comes the big deal, where our XDA developers play an immense role at... is it possible to bypass those scramblers? Is there any chance for an app that will penetrate those scramblers to get the special codes? (prefer android platform )
Share opinions, idea's, tricks , information everything is welcome
Thanks in advance
PS: you dont wanna know why they want to do so mwuahahahahaha
Haha, I am on this school. It's called: the calandlyceum.
http : / / forum.leerlingen.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=68599
There are more people from this school chatting about it
(delete the spacebars in the link)
I don't know about the Netherlands, but here in the US it's illegal. I don't think there's a way to defeat a scrambler. Usually, the school makes these arguments:
1) If there's an emergency, use the school's phones. - Ok, well 1000 students aren't going to stand in line for the phone while the school burns down.
2) If there's an emergency outside of school, you can use the school's phones - A student should not have to go back to his or her school to use the phone because something happened that is worth notifying their parents about.
3) Kids use them for cheating - Give me a break. There are much easier ways to cheat. For example, paper? Or graphing calculators? You're gonna ban those too?
It is illegal in most countries to interfere with the radio signals, but you would have to look up the specific law and possible exceptions for the Netherlands yourself (they might even have a website to look up the laws, at least we in Austria do)
How are they going to permit certain calls to go through when they are jamming the signal though? Could someone enlighten me?
Just hope that the jammers are weak so you can use your phone outside
Per Jeremy Clarkson, hammers solve everything
GSM jamming is ILLEGAL in Netherlands!

What if there's a family emergency or something? People shake their heads like it'll never happen but it's happened to me.
Personally I would sue the school. Or riot. Or maybe an EMP. But literally, I would take this to court. I don't have any links for evidence but im sure by calling a legal agency or even maybe the EFF (yes I know, they are technically in the US but I've seen them give advise to people overseas...) you could gather evidence and legal proof that what they are doing is against the law.
Maybe look into the technology behind it. If there is a way for your parents to get around it, then there are loopholes in the system.
That is my 2 cents, as a US resident. It could be much different in where you are. And i feel sorry for you bro.

Pretty much correct;
Verizon Wireless is a subsidiary company of Verizon Communications. They are one of the largest wireless/cellphone providers in the USA. They operate using CDMA2000 and LTE instead of GSM. Good call quality, great coverage, pretty good speeds. At 2G/3G you can't get voice and data at the same time (unless you have WiFi connected also), but that is a tech limitation.
The big problem with Verizon is as stated; They are lazy and shiftless, and don't push out updates until months after a provider has given them the ROM updates, and often never push them out. When they do, they send them back with requirements to bake in their bloatware apps and invasionary software before they will approved it and send it out. This is part of the reason for the Xperia Play R800x (the CDMA Verizon version), we are still on 2.3.3 and we can't even buy the PS1 games on the Android/Google-Play Market since those all require 2.3.4. We likely will _NEVER_ see an official update to ICS on the R800x. Further, bootloader unlocking on our CDMA units could be achieved the same way as GSM, but Verizon is cockblocking it through the company. So you have to use a hardware test unit to generate the codes, which cost about US$15+ in credits to do for each phone.
Sooooo, yeah. US CDMA Play owners are very likely on Verizon, and very likely annoyed in general with their provider.

Blowing up an old factory and building a new one will provide temporary economic benefit at long term cost, and only a very slight increase in production. Building a new factory adjacent will provide economic benefit during building, and double production, creating long term economic gain.
Basic economic sense (Then again, people think Reagonomic works, heh)
Basically. send your phone off to be recycled or give it to someone without a phone, dont destroy it!

[Q] Hpw to get into the android development business

So I've been a big fan of Android phones since their first release. I never bought into the IOS hype. I'd like to get into that kind of thing. So how does someone get into such business? College courses or do you have to find a company and work your way up?
BTW FAIL on the thread title... noticed it after I posted it -__-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1628565 hope you do well.
I saw that and I've been studying, reading many guides and such, but I was wondering how to get into the actual business because I know all of the devs here do it out of their free time. I was wondering how to actually be behind the making of the next big thing in smartphones. I know it can't certaintly be by working at T-Mobile by just selling phones (Which btw I applied and I'm hoping for a call back lol) So yeah... any insight?

I think that in order for you to actually get recognized and make android (or whatever smartphone os) a career for you, you will need some kind of college education, like most careers today. As for what you'd major in and etc., I'm not exactly sure, but my college offers a mobile applications class and etc. under computer science and I'm thinking about trying to get into it,.but it also seems like a waste of time for the fact all of this can be learned w/o taking courses b/c of all the tutorials and programs available today and you can teach yourself. So I'm not sure what to do, but its something I'm interested in as well so I may ask about it in the computer science department whenever I get the chance to...
As for working at T-Mobile...that job is a joke unless you live in a major city or something.
To my experience, the employees at T-Mobile don't know how to do anything other than operate a phone, tell you its selling points and process the order and contracts or w/e.
You don't have to know **** about phones and can still work there.
For ex: I live right outside of Nashville, there's quite a few places where you can get T-Mobile, like in the mall there's about 3 kiosks for T-Mobile and there's a T-Mobile store right across from the mall. I talked to the guys at the kiosks all the time cause I used to work at Hollister and A&F, and they don't know much about phones at all. I worked in the front of the stores as a greeter and they'd have a kiosk right in front of my store, so I'd walk straight from the store to their kiosk and talk about phones with them and they'd be like "why do you work at those stores and know so much about phones?" It wasn't so much that I knew a lot about phones, it was what I assumed to be basic knowledge for anyone that is surrounded by and works with phones all day.
And another example, there's a T-Mobile store right by my campus, but this isn't really a major city, so this is like the only one unless you'd travel a almost an hour to the next store.
Anyways they offered me a job b/c some guy came in w/ an iPhone 4 but didn't know what to do to get it on T-Mobile. I overheard the conversation and asked the guy about it and then told him exactly what he should do (like jailbreak and etc.) cause the store didn't know what to do, and not only that, they called "THE" guy that they normally talk to about iPhones and he didn't even know what to do...so I was like look, I used to have an iPhone on T-Mobile, this is what you need to do, etc. etc., and then they offered me a job. I told them I'm not interested ATM b/c my grades are sucking ass in college right now (I'm a freshman) and I wanted to get my grades up.
So I come back about a month and a half later and they have a new employee there - she doesn't know **** about cell phones either! But its not like the others know much more than she does.
Moral of those two stories: you don't have to know much about cell phones to work for a carrier's store. Not saying EVERY employee is like that, but to my experience, they are. Just like best buy employees
Its sad I can tell someone that works w/ TV's there more about a TV than that employee can, yet he's getting paid for the little knowledge he knows -___-
I don't even keep up w/ TV tech...

Haha, yea. I'm trying to take the course w/ the mobile app development and stuff but I didn't think I wanted to do a computer science major, so I took the "dumbed down" intro course which is only half the prerequisite, so next semester, I'm taking the other half needed for me to get into the mobile app course. It should be fairly easy cause this other half I need is only half a semester and they kinda dumbed it down too, and most of it's online and I can do the assignments at my own pace. All i'm doing is programming that little lego robot kids used to play with, at least that's what the guy made it seem like. He said it's supposed to give you a general idea on how to "speak computer language", knowing that computers will only do what you tell it to do or something like that...
My memory is so effed up right now, lol.

How to be "in business".. Are you sure you want it?
There are several things you might want to do:
1) Write apps for Android (and iOS too). Don't need any formal education for that, just know programming well (Java for Android, System C for iOS).
2) Develop HW or SW for the phones. For that you need to be either HW or SW engineer. That means - going to a recognized university and getting at least Bachelor of Engineering (which is a sort of BSc) degree in either Electronic Engineering or Software Engineering, then get a job in one of the corporations in this field.
And I suggest not basing such important decisions in life as choosing your profession, on a suggestion from a forum.
