Samsung S8 "not connected" to PC - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

I have this S8 for 3 years already and since few weeks ago, didn't have problem with connecting phone to PC and transfer files. Now when I connect phone to computer, nothing happens (except phone shows it charges). Phone doesn't show in "this PC" (windows 10) nor there is sound of device connecting to PC (also no removable media in taskbar). There was update in between but I am not sure if that is the problem.
EDIT: I have connected gf's huawei and everything is fine.. it shows right away after connecting

@InMoment1
Android is rooted? You use the Samsung USB Driver that matches your device? If so you can switch the device to MTP mode
Code:
adb shell "svc usb setFunctions mtp"

It's not rooted.
I did use SystemUI tuner application (but just to remove clock from main screen, didn't touch anything else).
I tried with samsung's driver (but even before I downloaded it, my phone worked just from "window's default")
This code that you wrote, how and where do i write it in phone?
Thnx!

mobile device center (Vista) & HTC Pro 2

I recently had to replace my notebook, new one came with Vista, also coincided with purchase of Touch Pro 2.
my current kaiser (WM 6.0) works fine, connect usb, vista fires up mobile device center.
connect pro 2 (WM6.1) via usb , nothing, device center does not start up.
run active sync on the pro 2, Sync button is grayed out. I have set 'sync all pc's....' to usb in the connections screen.
have checked other threads but so far come up blank.
can anyone point me in the right direction to possible fixing this, I need to reload some software not to mention I would like to and would like to check out some of the roms on this sight.

Have you tried starting mobile device center manually? Also had some troubles now and then, reboot of my pc and softreset of my phone usually fixed my problems. Else most responses will probably include the usual: remove all partnerships and/or reinstall mobile device center.
Btw, does your device show up in your hardware list or under my computer when connect it to your USB port?
mobile devioce center (Vista) and htc pro 2
have tried pc reboots and htc reset, no go.
If i connect my kaiser it appears as a device under my computer and device center picks it up.
connect the pro 2, does not appear as a device under my computer and if device center running does not attempt a connect, if device center not running vista does not start it
also no partnerships currently set up.
did have a kaiser one , deleted this when the pro 2 did not connect

Well as far as I know Windows should at least show your device under My Computer, even without a partnership or without even having Mobile Device Center installed.
So my best guess is there is some conflict which prevents your TP2 from even connecting to your notebook. Have you tried connecting it to a desktop PC? Or are you trying to connect it through an USB hub or something? If so it is possible the hub isnt delivering enough power.
I had the same issue and ending up hard resetting my phone before I figure what I did wrong. Go to settings on TF3D then all settings. Go to connections, and under usb to pc, select active sync. If it says disk drive it will not work in active sync. Also if the enable faster data sync is checked...uncheck it. Sometimes this causes an issue.
Go to settings and choose USB->PC Settings. Here you can disable "fast synch". Now it should work, if not, activate "fast synch" ^^
YOu might want to re-instal active sync ( device center ), I had a simulair problem, and it was solved
gz reb3lzrr
rodium and vista sync
firstly thanks for the many replies.
still no go
reinstall device center
rebooted pc, reset phone.
tried with a xp laptop with active sync, still no go.
neither pc recognises the rodium phone.
when I attach my kaiser each pc 'chimes' , ie recognises the attachment and activesync or device center start up and connect
rodium nothing.
tried each of the usb ports and couple of cables, all work for kaiser non work for rodium.
Hi. I have had the same problems. Disable fast sync like my man neonoxDE said. That will help you. Altough it helped me. With Win7 you can sync with that option enabled.

thanks tried that as well, still no joy.
Its has if the phone is not telling the op system that its there. Ie the interupt to the op system that happens when a usb device is attached is not happening, or being ignored.
i had the same problem. i had to uncheck the box advanced network funtions. that wen you go in to settings and usb to phone.
that was the problem with my phone sync.
sorry for bad english.
Ugh
Just went through this all tonight. Also coming from a Kaiser (AT&T Tilt).
To get it functional, I had to:
1.) Add Remove Programs
2.) Remove Windows Mobile Device Center
3.) Remove Windows Mobile Device Center Driver Update (if you installed it).
4.) Disconnect USB from phone.
5.) Reboot
6.) Reinstall Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 from CD (Sprint here).
7.) Install Windows Mobile Device Center Drvupdate. (WMDC dir on Sprint CD, called drvsomething or other, depending on if you're 64 bit or x86 on your PC).
8.) Then had to "Clear Storage" on the phone and let it clear itself (a simple reset did not let this work)
9.) Once soft reset was completed, I could connect the phone, it then found it, and worked correctly.
Yeesh.
Unchecking the box everyone is saying didn't have an effect for me, though I tried it many times before going all nuclear.
Thanks for this.
Tried this on my vista laptop still no go.
If I connect my kaiser 'installs device driver software' pop up displays and when this is finished windows mobile device center starts up.
Initial connection of pro2, nothing
After having the pro 2 connected for at least 45 mins I did get an an install device driver message, the device was unknown and device center did not start up.
so it appears that the pro2 was recognised has an unkown device
additional info
loaded down a usb moniter onto my laptop.
When I plug in the Kaiser usb monitor shows connection of the device on the specific port.
Unplug this and plug in the PRO2 onto the same port nothing shows as being connected.
rapidlycomming to the conclusion problem with the data pin outs on the USB, does anyone know of a diag program that could test this out or an easy way to check this.
save me the initial cost of checking by a repairer (which in the UK can be steep)
Although my TP2 will sync with USB, most of the time I sync via a bluetooth connection.
Have you tried doing it that way?
Maybe this will work.
One unconventional way to fix this, is to go to your phones activesync. select menu, then change it to bluetooth sync. After that, soft reset phone and connect via usb.
Windows Update
Try conducting a Windows update manually when your phone is connected via USB cable.

Win7 64 not recognizing 10.1

Is anyone else having an issue with Windows 7 not recognizing the Tab?
When I connect via USB, all I get is "USB device is not recognized". I tried loading the drivers from Samsung's website, but the install failed.
Thank you to the community here. I have been reading all of the threads in this forum and gaining a lot of really useful information. I appreciate any help you can offer.
I get USB device not recognized too. However if you wait a few moments, it may still show up as a mass storage device in Windows Explorer.
If it doesn't, make sure USB debugging is disabled in Settings\Applications\Development.
mine said that but...
I installed the driver under win home 7 and when plugging the device it:
said device attached
then loading driver for usb device
then it did say driver not loaded for device but...
when I moved out of the locked home screen it comes up with black screen with usb icon in the middle with connected and press the home key to quick Samsung Kies underneath. It says MTP Application in top left corner of screen. When I goto explorer it's listed as a portable device called GT-P7510 mobile phone
when I double click is says
tablet 26.9 of 27.9 free
double click on that and I see filesystem with:
Alarms
Android
DCIM
Dowload
Movies
Music
Notifications
Pictures
Podcasts
Ringtones
samsungapps
TunnyBrowser
and a file called beforeTime.ini
same issue
If I try to copy anything over-my screen completely freezes and I have to power cycle my laptop. I installed Kies and it looks like the drivers are working- but something just isnt right.
Samsung really screwed everyone on this. Win7, Mac, and Linux users all have problems. They should have just enabled USB mass storage support.
win7
I had no issues and I have a win7 64bit asus ep121 tab. I loaded Anchorman onto my GT and it even asked if I wantwd to convert it from mpeg4.x
I also connected it to my 64-bit W7 without any problems, after a few seconds I could see it's internal storage and start copying files.
Everything working flawlessly here .... Win 7 Pro 64. Sounds like some errant USB devices causing conflict. Run the attached program and remove all old, deleted or unused USB devices than reinstall Samsung drivers.

[Q] Note 3, Windows 7, USB Device not recognized

Yet another instance of "USB Device not recognized" with the Note 3.
To save both you and me some time, I've tried every possible solution online. Tried reinstalling drivers, with Kies, without Kies, with universal android drivers, with toolkits, with anything. At some point, while having nothing else but Wondershare MobileGO for Android installed, it found it properly. But next time I connected, nothing. The phone doesn't give any sign of being connected to a pc other than charging (so goodbye "pull down the menu and change between mtp/ptp" solutions) and the pc simply says that the device has malfunctioned and cannot be recognized. I've tried 4 different pcs with ~6 ports each, no luck. I randomly tried on my gf's father's laptop, perfect connection, recognition, immediate installation of Samsung's drivers. So it's not Note's problem, it's my pc's. But the only thing the 4 pc's in my house have in common is Kaspersky, which i tried disabling and completely exiting between my tries.
Please help me, I've lost my sleep and my patience...
Looks like a bad usb connector on the phone after all. The phone is at a Samsung service point.

[Q] PC Will Not Recognize My Phone Over USB

Hi everyone,
This is my first post about my Note 4, and I'm really frustrated.
All I wanted to do was transfer some music to the SD card on my phone, and I've just wasted the entire evening and have nothing to show for it.
I'm running Windows 8.1 on my PC and Android 5.0.1 on my Verizon phone. When I connect via USB, a popup in the system tray says that it has identified a Samsung File-Stor Gadget USB Device and assigns it drive letter F:.
However, almost instantly, Windows decides that my phone is a modem! USB Safely Remove and Device Manager both call it a Samsung Mobile USB Modem, and Explorer does not show a drive F:.
The Notification dropdown displays "Connected as a media device", and when I tap on it, I can see that "USB computer connection set to Media device (MTP)" is checked.
I installed the latest version of Samsung Kies on my PC and ran it, but it fails to connect to the phone.
Can anybody tell me what's going on? Thanks!
P.S. Ironically enough, even though I can't do anything, I can't stop the device because adb.exe has the connection locked!
Card reader is less hassle. Cables as you know are unstable at times.
I would try going into Device Manager (or maybe Devices and Printers) in the Control panel, right clicking your device and uninstalling it.
Reboot and let Windows detect the device again when your reconnect the phone.

Good idea, but I checked and it wasn't there. When I connect, a new Modems entry is created in Device Manager, but when I disconnect it disappears.
I might have to go w7excursion's route. Thank you both for your suggestions.

PC wont recognize device for file transfer

Just recently i tried to transfer for the first time, some wallpapers to my phone, and when i plug in the usb, the phone starts to charge normally but i cannot figure out why i cant transfer files from pc to phone or vice versa.
When i plug it in, it gives me the option to select what to "Use USB for", but when i select either MTP (file transfers) or PTP (transfer photos or files), nothing happens. I cannot browse the phone to pick anything at all.
When i go to device manager on PC i see under Portable devices the name of my phone (Moto G4 Play) but it has an exclamation point next to it. I have tried to uninstall and re-install or even update the driver but it will remain this way (if i click its propierties it tells me "This Device cannot start. Code 10"
Is there anything else i can do either on my phone or pc to make this work?
Other info:
Already downloaded motorola device manager to see if it would help but nope.
My PC OS is windows xp (yeah, i know... :laugh

That probably explains everything
I don't think there are compatible drivers for Windows XP..
Long term support for WinXP ended three whole years ago. Though what I noticed with CM and Lineage is that the first time the phone is set up, it won't enable MTP even if checked. You have to reboot the phone and then MTP will actually enable properly.
Also, it may happen with 3rd party cables too. I myself faced this issue with Boat Indestructible cable, then I used the original cable that came with phone and successfully done it. But I still can't understand, how that cable can transfer data to/from other phones....
Just another bit of info:
Today while trying to make it work, i updated the driver from the Device Manager again and somehow i could access the phone as intended.
The problem is that after a few seconds, the window closes on its own! Then i have to redo the whole process and It gives me access again but every time, after a few seconds, the browsing window closes on its own!
I have tried with other cables and no dice, tried also rebooting phone and pc and also tried plugging it to all available usb ports. Any other tip or method i can try?
Try another pc to discard things (so you know if it's the pc or the phone)
