After nearly 2 months with the S20 Ultra 5G, i'm giving up on it. Coming from a Mate 20 Pro to the Samsung, i thought would be a great upgrade. Reading the specs etc, made for being a pretty good powerhouse for Photography.
After going through about 4 updates since receiving the phone, the Camera is simply not good enough. It's fantastic for outdoor shots, however, Focus hunting, and the lack of clarity when photographing text makes the S20 photos blurry, and frankly, looks crap. Even with video, focus hunting is ridiculous. Hugely disappointed considering the Mate 20 Pro produced better photos by comparison.
Add to this, the physical size of the phone. Something i thought i could live with, but its massive! The camera bump alone makes me way over cautions putting the phone down after reading reports of the camera glass cracking (even though i've added a protector). I shouldn't have to feel fear using a bloody phone, so its going the journey.
The point of this post is???

Despite Samsungs updates, Camera is still not good enough. Especially for the price paid. Voicing my concerns same as everybody else.
Dont be ridicolous bro, your expecting way too much from a phone, if you like photography so much just a buy a decent camera...also the mate 20 takes better photos than the s20 ultra? I think you dont know what your talking about and very ignorant on this matter, kinda hard to satisfy people who have no idea what they are talking about...
The entire thread is pointless. It is not news, a guide or even a discussion.
If you are not satisfied then sell the phone, we do not need the negativity here.
people!!!
we live in free world - i think he mades very good points and he is right - the s20 ultra is a disappointment from many POV esp at that price
either way - this is a free forum where people can express freely their opinium - be that it's a good or bad towards a certain brand
dont read the post if your not interested esp since he made it really clear in his title

Hell yeah! I love the red pictures in dark settings effect.
Also, even if it were still a 4MP camera, it could very will be a completely redesigned, or at least tweaked, sensor that would perform better than the current one.
Seems like you have been saying that for over a year now, done with HTC

Same boat here. I ditched HTC after the 3D and the One was their final chance for me. This camera sucks beyond comparison. Makes the phone only a fraction of what it should be (yes I've had my device replaced). Only nexus devices for me from here on out. I'll pass on HTC's crappy radios and cameras.

Every single person at HTC should be fired, these shakeups they've had obviously are not working. Other than the camera I love the HTC One, but using the Nexus 5 for the past week or so I haven't missed a thing about it. I will probably end up selling it and not be coming back to HTC unless they can get there act together.

Everyone is so friendly with each other .... so I thought I'd chime in with my own opinion. Name one device that any of you have used that the camera actually measured up to what they say it will....anyone? I especially love how the N5 fanboys in other posts had the balls to say the N5 had a better camera when it is exactly the same as the last one, and yes, I owned an N4. Don't get me wrong, I'm totally with everybody that these companies should stop crowing about how great their camera is when it ain't, but GET REAL. As I have said before somewhere around here, when it comes to new devices, COST IS A FACTOR. Soooooo, would you rather have the same camera or the same processor? Same cam or the same screen clarity? They know they have to cut costs somewhere, this is where it happens. GET USED TO IT. It ain't no greener in the other dude's yard. If the camera is that important, buy a Nokia. The camera is the only thing about that device that's worth a s***. My two cents, flame away....

The camera in my HTC Evo 4G LTE was amazing. I used it at work all the time, and my co-workers refused to believe that the pictures I emailed from job sites were taken with a phone. It made my brother-in-law complain about the pictures he got from this GS3, which looked crappy by comparison. That phone was largely the reason I "upgraded" to the One. There have been a few incidences where the low-light capabilities came in handy, but overall I've been fairly disappointed by the "ultra-pixel" results.

Yeah, I hear you. My ONE takes great pics in near-perfect conditions, crappy ones in bad. But, my experiences with the N4, LGOG, and the ONE, not to mention my wifes GS III or any of the iPhones shes had (4, 4s, and 5) were really no better. I have just been resigned that the cam is one place that smartphones will lag until costs come down. Or until I can afford a 1000 dollar device. Have you guys seen the Lenovo?

...and I'll bet the cam aint that great on that badboy either lol
To keep the same camera says that there would have to be more people that like the camera than not. Most people come to forums to complain but that's a small percent of the overall user base. I still have my evo4glte and the ones camera outperforms it. If they left the camera the exact same and said it was 8 or 12mp people would all of a sudden say it was better just because of the number.

At the very least it's worth waiting to see what will be available....unlike the PS4 vs Xbox One, which was crystal clear early on who the front runner was.
There are also rumors that it may have an octo core processor. Maybe outlandish but we shall see. Maybe they include a 20mp or 41mp camera like the lumia.

Truth. I can only assume people have been smoking some pretty potent weed lately because they complain about the cam sucking yet it's one of the better cams on Android devices. Whenever my brother needs a pic he uses my One instead of his EVO LTE. Go buy a Nokia or iPhone, maybe G4, but don't go whining about a Nexus being the solution because it isn't. ll this crying over an article that only had an early spec leak for a prototype, and it doesn't give any info besides MP? lol c'mon guys, get real.
They really do need to innovate in the camera department. The same bull camera will be a fail.

Ik its specs I just want someone to tell me how the user experience is and maybe compare to other flag ships .. I did watch reviews but I wonna know what xda dudes think lol
I'm coming from a Galaxy Nexus on Verizon to the T-Mobile M8 so I was accustomed to a 2.5 year old phone. That said, I can say that I've never used a faster phone. I have a Nexus 10 tablet that is about a year old that the phone is faster than. I get twice as long from the battery than I've every gotten from any phone.
From the reviews I've read and from personal experience I think it really boils down to a few things. It's really between the M8 and the S5, unless you like the apple juice. The M8 has Sense 6 which is MUCH cleaner and closer to stock android than Samsung's skin. Touchwiz is hugely bloated and barely resembles Android the way Google intended. However, the reviews have the S5 with slightly better battery and a better camera. So if you take a lot of pictures and don't mind the gimmicky bloat of Samsung then go for the S5. But the M8 will feel better designed in both hardware and software. There are already mods out to improve camera quality and I've tweaked my battery to last a little over 2 days on normal use.
Obviously I'm here so I lean towards the M8 but I'm a huge proponent of the software side of things. I think HTC really nailed it with Sense 6.

I didn't provide the link for specs, at the bottom you have plenty of forums to go and have discussions with other Tmobile device owners! The links are there! :silly:
As for the comparisons to other flag ships, it's not allowed here, even though I don't agree with that concept at all and can't really see where it's mentioned in the rules post as being against the rules but the moderators always close down posts that discuss comparisons.
So check the link I posted again, I don't know why you just looked at the specs and closed the window instead of just looking a little lower and seeing ALL the threads provided for T-Mobile users... a General section, a Q&A section, a Theme section, Development section etc.
Reason I gave that link is because this is international version section and there might not be a lot of people with T-Mobile that can help you, where as if you head over to T-Mobile section they ALL might be able to help you, as it's their section :good:

The m8 provides decent quality and I would give up s5 good camera for a faster experience without all of its nonsense and gimmicks .. I'm huge nexus fan and I can say I like sense 6 a bit more than it .. So great job HTC can't wait to have you soon. Goodbye LG G2

Yeah I'm sorry m8 I was quick to judge.
I have always been an HTC guy from Sprint with the CDMA Hero, Evo 3D, Evo LTE, One M7 to One Max. Then I switched to T-Mobile and got the M8. I love the M8 even though I am still in love with the Max mostly for the screen size. I think the camera on the M8 is awesome. I have yet to take a pic out of focus. And the sound on this is very impressive, almost as loud as the gigantic speakers on the Max. I am not a fan of the Touch Whiz UI, so needless to say I'm not a fan of Samsung. I recommend the M8 whole heartily!
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk
I just picked mine up today. So far im loving it! I'm coming from the Nexus 4. The screen is gorgeous, the sound is great (though not quite as loud as I expected), and the camera is awesome so far. Love being able to select focus after the shot is taken. Battery life seems pretty darn good so far too.
I'll miss vanilla android, but I'll get used to sense again. As far as manufacturer skins go, it's great. Let's see how long I can last from rooting though. I hate bloat. You can't even uninstall Twitter! Wtf?

The screen is worse than the M8 (lower brightness, worse contrast and viewing angles).
Their camera is horrible, when shooting pictures the right side is always out of focus. Even though they don't think it's the case for every M9, it says something about the QC of HTC. Besides that, the overall quality of the pictures are still far behind Samsung and others.
Worse battery than the M8, which seems to be because of the processor heating up.
And it's a whopping €750!!
http://tweakers.net/nieuws/101871/htc-one-m9-heeft-last-van-oververhitting-bij-zware-belasting.html

For those of you who hate Samsung, get the M8. The M9 is a straight-up downgrade.

I passed by the "Win an Honor 8" thing quite the few times and had recognized the name from somewhere. I don't have any luck when it comes to raffles and I have no income currently to get one myself so I wanted to ask some things in the forums here. (I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to talk about it.)
I saw that there was some major hype around the Honor5X/8(?) and I wonder what the main selling point for this is. Is it strong in any particular field such as performance, reliability, or photography? Thank you for putting up with my silly questions
Broad question. The appeal of the Honor 8, at least as far as I understand it, is good performance for a low price.
hey group
hey you guys im new to this forum im actually participating in the chance to win the honor 8. it looks like it will be a major player in the months to come. im currently using an oppo find 7 qhd display and ive had it for at least 2 years now. although i do not want to change phones since im so use to this one i would still purchase this phone and use it as my business daily phone
As far as Honor 5X is concerned, it targets the budgeted segment who expects metallic feel with Fingerprint sensor at the price point of 200$.
Honor 8 targets the photography part and its glass layered design. You can see the Saffire blue model for its attractiveness.
As far as all Honor Mobiles are concerned, 2 years software update is guaranteed unless there is any hard restriction such as Carrier support (or) Hardware support.

I looked into the Honor series a bit and I'm either considering the Honor 8 or the Moto Z Play right now to change from my Nexus 5. I will however miss the unlimited cloud storage for video and pictures. But frankly 16GB (12 usable) is way too little storage space nowadays and having to carry a charger at all times is dragging me down (by the pants at least) so I really need to upgrade. But thank you all for the discussion :3
Coming from CM as a daily driver I really dislike EMUI and it's a shame CM for the honor 8 doesn't work properly yet.
It's also been one of the main critiques of the Honor 8.
If you want it for gaming, don't. other than that, ignore benchmarks, day to day performance is fantastic which is the main reason why I got it.
The other one is the design.
Although the non gorilla glass back seems to be somewhat fragile according to some.
I also don't find it as slippery as most reviewers claim.
So yeah in short performance for the price is great.
For me personally it's an iPhone 6 for half the price and without iOS. So a great deal.

Always interested to see battery comparison, photos taken by other users etc

There is a good comparison image posted by @carburano here. I found the game to be quite interesting I was kind of hoping for more images! Check it out!
OPPO Ambassador from Italy! Let's rock the Find X5! UNBOXING LIVE! (REVIEW SOON)
Hi all! My name is Francesco, the only OPPO Ambassador from Italy :) As an ambassador I cannot wait to put my hands on OPPOFind X5. What do i expect? Well, certainly a confirmation of the excellent work already done by OPPO in the last years...

Not really interested in comparisons by oppo embassadors, I was wondering about real owners of the phone and what they are getting day to day battery wise so I can compare it with my own, exchange tips to improve it,etc.
Has XDA stopped creating "real life review" subforums for new devices being added?

You can be sure, my review will be honest. If you ask me i can assure that Color OS at the moment is not my favourite UI because it has Memory management limitations and some multitasking issues. Also notification menu is a little bugged. Also i have some critics about Find X5 price range.
Normally i use phones for 1 month before reviewing it. At the moment you can simply check my thread for photos against pixel 6 pro (same price range) and S22 Ultra (maybe a little unfair for Find X5 not pro)
BTW if you have questions please ask. We are simply lucky users and we are on your side
@carburano I am not doubting that you are going to review the phone and post your genuine findings, but as I mentioned, I am not really looking for one persons opinion. I am just confused as to why XDA stopped creating the Real Life Review subforums for new devices. That's all.
I guess I can still post a thread discussing battery life, and another one to compare images taken etc etc.
The bottom line is that I want input and opinions from real users who have paid their hard earned money for the phone.

Videos too. I have been trying to understand what their highlighted features mean in terms of user experience and if this is what makes the phone more expensive.
I haven't seen an example of real life review forums. When/Where did you last see one?
Huawei P40 Pro
The Huawei P40 Pro is a 6.58" phone with a 2640x1200p resolution display. The HiSilicon Kirin 990 5G chipset is paired with 8GB of RAM and 128/256GB of storage. The main camera is 50+40+12MP and the selfie camera is 32MP. The battery has a 4,200mAh capacity.

OnePlus 7 Pro
The OnePlus 7 Pro is a 6.67" device with a 1440x3120p resolution display. The Snapdragon 855 chipset is paired with 6/8/12GB of RAM and 128/256GB of storage. The main camera is 48+16+8MP and the selfie camera is 16MP. The battery has a 4000mAh capacity.

These are the last 2 devices I have owned and they both had real life review forums on XDA.
Interesting, but I guess the real-life user reviews is up to the Forum members to commence accordingly, and for XDA to professionally host.
But there are 20 OPPO Product Ambassadors (10 with the X5 Pro and 10 with the X5 (I'm one of the latter)) and we've been asked to use the devices as our daily drivers, and to conduct our own reviews.
Speaking for myself, I consider myself a real user, and will be using my experiences from the X3 Pro, as comparison from the last 12 months.
Yes, the X5 was provided to me by OPPO, but it was also a logical choice for me to have purchased, to update from the X3 Pro (yeah I know the X5 is not the Pro, but all will be revealed in my post), and I curious as to how it performs.
I'm not as technically precise or knowledgeable as a lot of others, and I'm not a professional photographer, just a curious person who works for a Not for Profit Organisation, who enjoys taking photos for posting on Instagram and posting tech stuff on twitter.
But there are twenty real world reviews about to hit XDA.
BTW, the #OPPOFindX5Series doesn't launch in Australia until April 19th.
Hope this helps.

The ambassadors are real owners of the phone - most were chosen for being people just like you, users of XDA - the fact someone has spent money on the device doesn't make their opinions any less relevant.
Are you going to start separating out those that get the phone 'free' on contract to those that buy it outright too?
Ok fair enough, will be interested to see the reviews. I have already bought the phone and was wondering if I should return it during the 14 day period because the battery isn't anywhere near my Huawei p40 pro.
But I guess that is just because the Huawei had hacked GMS and it had very aggressive battery management.
Your argument about getting a phone "free" on contract is invalid because I am still paying more than the RRP of the phone over the 2 year contract.

Sir, this is affirmative. All new device fora (i.e. since the website's transition to Xenforo) are "just" one forum with no sections/sub-fora but prefixes for thread titles and filtering.
This forum "OPPO Find X5 Pro" is the one and only exception from above policy.
Yes but you were comparing it to getting it free from oppo in exchange for a review.
Having not paid your own money I'd say you'd be inclined to let some things slide would you not (consciously or unconsciously).

It can be also generalised that people who purchase a device will also subconsciously defend their purchase and therefore their review may not also be as "real" as it perhaps could have been.

But I also appreciate your thoughts on how important real reviews are. Totally makes sense to me, and I look for the raw and real reviews all the time

If the battery optimization is based on the learned events of your SOT and use, 2 weeks won't be enough time to establish a trend, though ideally it should capture your use over 4 charging cycles.
Battery reviews like this will highlight charging power because obviously it's coming with new technology. While Find X5 is not in this list yet, your best bet is reviewing it based on the features they're highlighting.

I've reposted my review here for dicussion:
Oppo Find X5 Pro "Real Life Review"
Here's my review after owning for 10 days. I am not an Oppo ambassador so therefore these thoughts are not biased in any way. I could have gotten a Samsung S22 Ultra for around the same monthly price (maybe it was £5 more) but the lack of charger...
