Hi everyone! I am having problems with my note 3. I recently purchased a refurbished samsung note 3 from the o2 website which arrived acouple of weeks ago and noticed my camera looks grainy colours look watered down compared to my mums samsung note 3. Here are afew pics taken on default settings on both stock cameras in the same conditions. The only difference is shes running kitkat 4.4.2 and i am runninf lollypop 5.0, but this was the case before i upgraded, infact i upgraded to see if it would change but its still the same.
This is the second refurbished phone I have got from o2 as the previous one had bad vertical lines in low light conditions TRUST ME it was bad. One thing I would like to say is when moving around with my mums note 3 camera, the picture looks so smooth while mine looks very grainy. Does this phone need to go back? Because I cant imagine the same phone on the same settings could produce the opposite photos.
It's hard to say without knowing exactly what rom version you're both running... and double check both camera settings. Default isn't enough to insure they are setup the same.
Also check to see if there is any screen protector on your camera lens (some shops put that there)... is it clean or any grease/smudge, etc (thought that wouldn't account for the graininess). Graininess occurs when ISO gets pumped up higher. Usually with low lighting, but check to see where ISO is set to.
If all those things still don't check out... then maybe getting a refurbished phone isn't the best way to go (or at least from this o2 place). Good luck!

Both iso on each phones were set to auto and i have checked the lens and it looks flawless, so i am guessing this phone will have to go back?
You know what... I think it's android 5.0 issue. I updated my phone to it too... and camera now also takes more grainy, not as sharp pics. That sucks. So something is up with that.
Maybe go back to 4.4.2 -- that probably resolves the issue.
I tried with another camera app (better camera) and same results.
I did notice a change actually when upgrading to lollipop, the camera looks over-sharpened sometimes and lack detail, lots of noise... Is this a thing?
Also, battery life isn't that amazing before and after buying a new battery for the phone, barely lasts me a 9 hour school day with medium to high usage, no gaming.
Is this just lollipop being weird? I flashed mine via Odin from an Italian version of the Note 3 but the bands are basically the same, no problems getting 4G, H+, 3G or 2G.
I read somewhere there was a camera mod on some rom... that gave the full camera pic, not compressed. So maybe Lollipop is now compressing the images more, which will give more lossy images. Will try look more into that, but 5.1 should be coming out for more devices (soon I hope)... suppose to fix some mem leak issues and others.
This is where I read about the compression: It's a camera mod. Maybe can try it ^^ http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...camera-mod-note-3-n9005-lollipop-5-0-t3067827
Well i gave my phone to o2 repair and they said that they could not find a fault with the camera lol So I am out of ideas here. All i know is the difference between the two cameras are nite and day and i am not happy.
As I said, can give the mod camera a try and see if it's better. I haven't tested it yet - will get around to it on weekend.
But from a lot of bug reports and boards across the web... Lollipop upgrade has made the camera worse - so some coding is at fault. Hopefully it's fixed with next update (5.1 rolling out soon).
Guys is there any code or any way to check whether we got original camera or replacement parts from eBay? Because I am also not happy with my note 3 camera.
Hello. Today I bought a brand new Galaxy S8. Everything was working fine until I decided to test out my camera. It is either wrongly set up or I have a faulty sensor. Take a look at these 2 samples:
http://imgur.com/a/6qGCO
It does gain focus and take a decent pic in very close distance to photographed object. However, when moving it a little bit far, the image gets completely blurry. I have no idea what should I do now, I am kinda disappointed and it's a terrible first impression as for a newly bought phone. Should I return it or shall I tinker with camera app a litle more? The same thing happens in Snapchat so I'd rather opt for camera sensor being faulty

Try downloading another camera app and test to see if you still get the same problems. I'd try the stock Google camera app. I'd be curious to know if you get the same results.

The steps I have done:
On system level:
- clear camera cache
- clear data
- force close
*did not help*
then I booted into recovery, done factory reset, it solved the issue. if it still doesn't work you may need to return it and get replacement :/

I already returned the first sm-g950f because of the same problem. It started sporadically, restarting the camera app or the phone helped in the first few days. On day 8 I tried factory reset but the camera was still out of focus. Only object closer than 6-7 cm were OK, everything else was blurry. I tested the camera in the *#0*# service menu: blurry.
The second device started showing the same symptoms a few minutes ago. Now focusing to a close object then focusing away helped. I keep monitoring for the next days.
Update:
Day #11: blurry camera, stuck focus in macro for a minute. Refocusing did not help. Closing and starting camera app again, focus now working normally.
Don't have this issue, but in general if there is dirt on the lens, it could affect focus.

i have the same problem
any help how to slove it?
I have a similar issue, when launching the camera after some time the rear camera is completely out of focus no matter the distance of the object. After "shaking" the phone, it works fine.
Looks like the stabilizer or the autofocus is stuck and the shake fix it. What do you think?
I think I'll contact the support tomorrow
I have the S8+ European version, G955F
Is this okay? I got a blurry back cam for my newly bought s8, but after reading the suggestion to "shake" it, it became clearer. Is this normal? Is this how that is suppose to be?
hi everyone. just want yo share my experience. i bought a brend new s8 at launch . everything ok. but 3 weeks ago it started to give blurry rear cam at times. let say one for five camera app launch..... i called samsung. they told me to bring the phone to them for testing. and eventually replace the camera sensor. oh noooo. never i will accepe an opened s8............the story solved with an ota update the last week. everything ok since

Samsung s8 is Rubbish
Bought the phone for my wife as a replacement for her 32GB s6 Edge. After 3 weeks of use this blurry rear camera started occurring. Started with once in awhile and then continued to happen more often. Shaking the phone would get it to work until the next time it faulted. It eventually was occurring every time you would launch the camera app. Searched online and found that there are MANY instances of people all over the world experiencing the same issue and shaking their phones to get the camera to work. Clearly a hardware fault.
Contacted Samsung NZ who proceeded to take me through all the typical troubleshooting steps which I had already followed from online. Eventually did a factory reset to appease them and what do you know, the issue remained and started as soon as I opened the camera app after the factory reset.
Took it to the Vodafone provider who sent it to Samsung. Received the phone back 4 days later (sent Monday, received Friday), the Samsung report states that the camera was replaced and Samsung replicated the issue on the phone. Now the camera will work and won't be blurry as soon as you open the camera app but the pictures are horrible quality. Doing a picture compare between my s6 Edge / Note 5 and the repaired s8. The s8 pictures are of terrible quality.
Very disappointed, $1000 phone, broken after a month of use. I will be taking this up with Samsung again soon.
My theory on why this issue has occurred. Samsung were trying to stick the fingerprint reader in the screen like what the iPhone 8 is doing. Samsung ran out of time and made the bad design decision to stick the fingerprint reader next to the camera. This caused the hardware fault of the blurry camera and proceeds to cause the bad quality of images.
This is not a software fault, it is a hardware fault.
I'm sure Samsung would want to save as much face as they can after the Note 7 incident. As the s8 is the first flagship after the Note 7.
This issue is not limited to the s8, s8 plus users are experiencing the same issue. The Note 8 has been designed the same way and will most likely have the same issue.

Yup! Avoid the s8 at all costs. Get the s7! Or wait for the iPhone 8. Depending on preference of course.

If this wasn't a widespread issue I would think the same. Google "s8 blurry rear camera" and see how many search results it turns up. This isn't a once off. Plenty of people around the world are experiencing the same issue.

Thank you for your most gracious wonderful opinion. It's greatly appreciated.
Same issue here, found that shaking the phone fixed the camera problem but it happens entirely too often. That being said I do have a few energy saving apps and wondering if it is putting the camera components in hibernation until I shake the phone. Anyway, did the OP findnout what was causing his blurriness?
Hi all,
I am in a market for a new phone and my best bet so far is the Mate 8. I love its screen size, body-to-screen ratio, battery life and smooth performance.
However, reading numerous reviews raised some concerns for me that I was hoping you guys could help me with:
- The dreaded software. Is it so horrible in its latest official version (I would like to mention that I would use only official stuff so I am safe not to void warranty)?
- Can I make the phone look and feel as a "normal" Android phone?
- What is going on with the camera? Some reviews stated it's horribly unstable, slow and the photo quality is subpar. How is the current situation?
- How about the notification issue? Has it been resolved?
- How is the screen looking for you? Any tints and other distracting stuff?
Thanks for your replies!
Can't say about other variants, but I have an L29 and on official B581
- software is fine and stable (as stable as any other major brand)
- I'm running Nova launcher which works perfectly. The Huawei own launcher is ok as well. Runs like any other Android.
- Camera is ok. Not the best in class but good enough.
- Notifications issues were resolved a while back.
- The screen is absolutely fine, no specific issues.
Do note that there hasn't been any major original android development on this (some attempts at Lineage, but didn't get too far).
Hope this helps.
-I'm on official L29---b582 , EMUI 5.0.1
No problem with software and got huge battery optimisation on latest update
- it's Android you can do anything, there's pixel2 moded launcher in XDA, and free themes like this[emoji116]
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=emui.en.com.gpix2
- i dont know about notification issue cus i never had it ( the problem was on some Emui4s i think)
-camera is not good as 2017's phones obviously, but its good enough (there no 4K video recording thought)
-about the screen, you'll love the screen )

I have the Mate8, L29C185B series. I've "retired" it about a month ago, and got the 9.
Have I had any problems in the just over a year? Nope. I run 100% stock, don't root, unlock bootloader or anything.
Other than using Nova Launcher Prime, instead of EMUI, what she came with, is how I run it.
Onto the software. It came with android 6, which I was perfectly fine with. It was updated to 7 in April of 2017.
Had 7 not been released, in my usage, it wouldn't have made a difference. 6 for me was rock solid.
My phone stays on 24/7. My usage is around 1500-2000 minutes per month on the phone, 300-400 text messages
per month, tons of web browsing (work), mp3's, streaming and LOTS of photographs.
On the subject of photos, I use Camera FV5 for that device, and it works fantastic. The key to getting a good
photo with a smartphone, is still to make sure you HOLD it still. The camera on the 9 is faster at capturing, but
for what I use the camera on the 8 for, it does the job. I do field electronics work, and use the phone camera
to snap photos of failures and parts on the equipment. The photos were always pretty clear, and in focus.
(I'm a weekend photographer for over 30 years, so I'm pretty good at holding it still).
The battery life for me, was typically 1 to 1.5 days. On weekends, I typically don't even use my phone, so charging
it Friday evening, would usually give me 60% left over by Sunday evening.
The 8 is a fantastic phone, in my opinion, unless you just "gotta have" the latest and greatest firmware installed.
Huawei isn't known for being spot on, to releasing software, but for my last 3 Huawei phones (Mate 2,8,9) they
have been very stable without any problems, that I didn't concern myself if it didn't have the latest firmware.
"It just works".
Thanks a lot for your input guys.
Even though three users might be considered as a rather smallish sample, your detailed answers are very reassuring and I have pretty much made a decision.
Thanks again!
hi, I just got the opportunity to update my G6 software to V11g. I know that it has come earlier in other European countries. Are there any opinions about the new version of the software?
I haven't really noticed any difference.
It is good when it is not whorst than before at least they do not broke anything. How long are you using V11g version?
Just got OTA update of 11g from EE UK Security patch date 6 Nov 2017.

+1. Camera seems faster and crisper. Worth the update.
Haven't seen the battery improvement though.
Norway here. Got it a few days ago, although I check manually as a developer. No difference noticed. Haven't tested the camera improvements, if noticeable. The software is stable and no reason to not upgrade, in fact you should of course as it's an Android security patch update.
Kind of hoping this includes some under the hood stuff that'll makes it more ready for Oreo. The fact that they've held it back at 7.0 made me think they worked on Oreo as fast as possible.
My Galaxy S II has 7.1.2 LOL... LineageOS. As a developer there are of course some news in the APIs in 7.1 and 7.1.2 I wouldn't mind being able to test on a physical device, but really nothing that the emulator doesn't do as it's just software changes for my apps.
Since LG manufactures the Pixel 2 it would be nice if just Google gave them right to use that software minus the stuff only the Pixel can do. The software on the LG G6 is very stock anyway. It's the only non-Google phone I've had where all the extra settings, which are not many and don't bloat the device, are actually useful and some very nice to have over stock AOSP. Kind of LineageOS. Some LG apps I don't use, but they can be disabled. Otherwise I actually use the stock phone/contacts app (same app), SMS/MMS app and Calendar app. They're just fine. Was kind of surprised when I found out one can change the location of the floating action button by holding and moving. It was at the center which is not standard behaviour. To the right it goes and it positions perfectly at the right place according to Material guidelines.
This is my first post here, and the first time I've bought a non-Google device, as it was affordable and got good reviews like the newer V30 IIRC the name. My Nexus 5 died although it was still under the 5 year warranty by law in Norway as long as it's not your fault and then they have to prove the failure is really your fault. A humidity sensor far away from the Wi-Fi chip going off isn't enough. Then they must prove that changing that part fixes the Wi-Fi. Anyway my Nexus 5 got the infamous Wi-Fi chip bug where the chip loses physical connections to the motherboard. Managed to fix it with various recipes here, from physicial pressure with tape to oven baking. But last oven baking killed it after it had worked several days (and I tried again). I'm living in Spain, had to go back to Norway before mid November to claim 5 year warranty, but didn't have that patience. As people today are so stupid and buys ever increasing costly phones, while prices for components of course goes down as the technology inside today really are small increments. Profit. People thinking the more expensive the more status basically. I'm sad Android OEMs have jumped on the iPhone price range but understandable from OEMs standpoint if they sell. Anyway with Nova Launcher and emulators I can test the important new stuff in Oreo (API 26 and 27).
Hope LG keeps delivering phones at a reasonable price as we had Android flagships before, and with much less bloat than Samsung for instance, we just need Oreo. AFAIK LG has promised 2 major updates for 2017 flagships, so at least Android 9. Correct me if I'm wrong. After that it'll be LineageOS, and then I assume there's a good camera substitution. I don't throw away perfectly working phones. Great camera (iPhone 6-7 friends jealous at least), water proofed, good battery life, expandable storage, headphone jack, great fast charging that surprises me still (although I still miss my wireless charging and my luxury charger is collecting dust after my Nexus 5 died), etc. Bought this autumn I'll have warranty until 2021, so if it stops working I'll just go to any store in Norway selling LG phones, and meanwhile they'll have to give you a similar good phone. If they can't repair it (for example lack of parts being old) and can't prove it's your fault, your warranty right is a new phone being just as good that year, say 2020, like the LG G6 was. Would mean an LG flagship for free that year usually, you usually get a choice though, but it must be as good, that years early flagship from some Android OEM. Like an "LG G9" or whatever. I won't try to fix this myself. Just use my backup phones meanwhile, although old, runs LineageOS pretty well, actually better than stock. Got the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and LG Nexus 4 still. My 5 got fried as said.
What I miss from my Nexus 5 is really wireless charging. Bought a luxury charger. So convenient. Where I naturally put my phone down I'm used to put it in the charger right there. The going away from wireless charging was a true surprise... But now that iPhone has it, even the standard (yeah wow, but not a fast charger in the box, that's an LOL!), it'll be in new Android flagships released in 2018 and forward for sure. So convenient it'll be when all places like airports, coffee shops etc all have charging pads at your table. Most pads are really cheap and surely will be getting cheaper, probably many non-OEMs producing a ton right now "compatible with the iPhone 8" but it'll work for everyone.
I wish all EU/EEA countries would adopt Norway's warranty ("reklamasjonsrett") with 5 years for all consumer good from sofas to phones. There's a 2 year warranty for batteries, but when the battery is built-in and you can not change the battery yourself without breaking the manufacturers warranty, the Norwegian law again trumps the manufacturer's and the 5 year warranty kicks in (just did it with my GFs Garmin Watch, didn't even have to pay for transport, which is usual, about 4 USD, because it had to be sent another country, so she got a completely new device, but everything synced to the cloud so setup back to the old one was a sync away, and it was clearly a battery failure as it worked perfectly when plugged in and died immediately when disconnected), because then it's a part of the device. The manufacturer's warranty only counts for the things they offer that are better than the Norwegian one, which usually are none. Sometimes it can be, like iPhone users buying extra warranty, but the 5 year general warranty still counts regarding general failure of the device.
To h*** with planned obsolescence. We even see it here. Working at the country's IT agency we see many devices fail just after or just before 5 years (that accurate they can't always be). But a company, everything from a one man company to a big company, only gets the standard manufacturer's warranty, but as a small country the devices are the same, for consumers and companies (designed for the Norwegian market because of our warranty), except products sold only to companies. So it's weird to see printers fail JUST after 5 years, googling it and seeing people from the US have the same device fail after 1-2 years and EU like the UK users having the device fail after 2 years. We're talking thousands of devices, as I developed the inventory system for Norway's IT agency, and I see a clear pattern. It's no anecdote.
Since the recent update VoLTE seems to work for T-Mobile Germany
Hey...
I didnt notice not very big difference ...
But... One of the major things im noticed.... Its seems like lg has improved the cpu/gpu governors ... The whole phone is now aboslutely fluid ....and also its using more than before deepsleep... No battery/performance mods installed, only magisk and some minor tweaks like youtube vanced and viper + dual speaker mod... Even with around 80 apps its not laggy ... Scrolling now is also more fluid... so ... The update is in my opinion must have....
So scrolling is better now? Is that possible?
Phone was fluid even before the update.
Biggest thing i noticed is that the battery life is improved ?
oh the placebo effect in this thread..
For me it is not that fluid when scrolling in apps like Instagram, Facebook etc.
I have poor battery now, and nothing good
Waiting Oreo
Funny, in the Mideast region the 11g update improved battery life.
From unplugging when leaving the house , after 9 hours of light use at work usually have 80% battery left.
This is my first android phone and I am using it out of box (nothing installed to improve phone performance) I got the feeling that the battery is little bit better and phone is little bit "more fluid".

I'm coming from a Zenfone 2 ZE551ML with the stupid x86 Intel CPU. ****ing incompatibilities with apps it's getting me annoyed so I wan't to get a new phone.
I'm in love with the S7 Edge (Exynos version sold in my country). The used ones are around 350€ to400€ and I consider it a good deal.
My questions are:
- Is it worth buying one in 2018 ?
- How much of an upgrade is it taking in consideration that I've had the Zenfone 2 for almost a year ?
- I don't like the TouchWiz ROMs so I plan to flash it with an AOSP ROM like Lineage. Will I lose any TouchWiz specific features or see a the camera quality reduced because of drivers and etc ?
- What are the device's redflags I should look for when looking at used ones ?
Thanks for your attention and sorry for the long post
If u dont use TouchWiz you will lose specific features of the Samsung like the always on display or the messaging apps. You will have to rely on Google or 3rd party. I'm pretty sure lineage os doesn't come with Samsung apps. We are getting our last upgrade to oreo at the end of April. I think all the sensors work fine but the 3rd party cameras are kind of grainy. The low light camera seems to be a Samsung camera app exclusive I think. The only bug on lineage is the GPS not working fully, only high accuracy works the other 2 don't work, means you need 4g to use location GPS doesn't work. It's still one of the best phones for price ratio one of the few phones with a copper heatsink u can play 4 games of pubg without recharging at 60fps phones aluminum corners still get extremely hot after though like 42c similar to a cup of coffee. Phone can display 2560 1440p on oled. There are s8 ports with Bixby and camera stickers if you choose the TouchWiz route. I myself will swap to lineage os soon because the Bixby feels kind of half cooked. Samsung midrange devices do not support 4k recording or 1440p recording but the s7 edge does. S7 also has a OIS camera compensator hardware. When you shake the Camera the compensator will move the camera in the opposite direction to keep a stable image. Because of this software stabilization should always be turned off. Open camera the most downloaded camera app on the playstore supports 4k video and pictures still. You should be aware of fakes, the fastest way to check is by going to settings and checking for Knox security fake phones have problems creating a Knox version menu. Another way to check is to just check for the edge panel it can't run in fakes. I got my phone for 300 usd without any cracks or pink lines on the screen.
For me yes,it is worth it,mine also i bought last month it is secondhand but im loving it
You should check and test display, cause s7 has more defects on display(defect/misuse by user)
I prefer stock rom on s7e,it is more polished, stable, fast, and less bug,im not fan of custom rom since back in the past i was used to try all kinds of rom start from s3 to s6,like i said,it is fun to experience custom rom(ONLY AT FIRST TIME) time to time i've had enough of custom rom thats why i always go back to stock rom, actually i appreciated samsungs theme compare to pure stock and other manufacturers theming ?
Buy one plus or any other ..the camera is crappy now with every update..pictures come out blurry..
