Guys
I've searched the forums and realise I can buy a SIM unlock code for my Blackstone, however I'm trying to clarify the following.
1. If I install a different ROM do I still need to buy the unlock?
2. If I changed the EMEI (I want the phone to match my in car fixed EMEI - I realise the blackstone has to be switched off when in the car else conflicts) does that mean the phone has to be unlocked again?
3. Once the phone has been unlocked if I change the ROM will it have to be unlocked again?
What prompted the question is reading the Wiki few areas actually simlock the phones....therefore my assumption is a different ROM means it could become unlocked.
Thanks in advance for the help.
Regards
Its an unlocked phone my friend so obviously you pay a higher price for the phone itself able to use with any sim card. Carriers phone that are branded with the carrier logo are usually cheaper with a plan that could cost more then the phone overtime and is locked to the phone carrier which requires a sim unlocking code to use with other sim cards/ other carriers.
The answer to that is you can install any rom on the phone and if it an unlocked htc touch hd which you paid a lot for then it will be unlocked forever
if its locked to a carrier im not sure about that maybe someone can clarify.
any ideas please guys, I get the phone in a couple of hours.
bump
Anyone?
Try to keep this short
1. If I install a different ROM do I still need to buy the unlock?
No Simlock is based on the radio and hardware (short version).
Once unlocked yoiu can up your rom and your radio, it stays unlocked.
2. If I changed the EMEI (I want the phone to match my in car fixed EMEI - I realise the blackstone has to be switched off when in the car else conflicts) does that mean the phone has to be unlocked again?
Got me lost on this one.
Simlock is based on radio and Hardware.
So your IMEI is part of the phone which is either Sim Locked or not.
If you put your sim into what ever is in phone is in your car your number will be the same.
Once you have sim unlocked a device it remains unlocked.
Like I said you lost me.
3. Once the phone has been unlocked if I change the ROM will it have to be unlocked again?
No - Once done it remains unlocked regardless of rom or radio upgrade.
(and if you buy a new Simlocked Blackstrone you cant use your old code as the lock is based on the hardware)
What prompted the question is reading the Wiki few areas actually simlock the phones....therefore my assumption is a different ROM means it could become unlocked.
--->point me to the page that you feel needs updated, i will have a go at it.
(please PM me)
Hi, Could someone please tell me the easiest way to unlock a Hero on Orange network uk, and then install android 2.1. I will be using a 3 sim in the phone.
I'm very new to all this, so please could you make it simple to understand.
Thank you.
Call CS, now Orange and TMobile are the same company, I know that TM will unlock your phone for £15 I guess that Orange should do the same, call them and find out
Apparently there are sellers on ebay charging only £6 for network unlock codes,... definitely worth checking.
As for how to do it, insert your non-orange sim in handset, handset should prompt you to enter network unlock code,... If this prompt does not come up, you will need to use BTDAG guide linked in my signature for insructions on how to install custom ROMs, then try again.
Hello all
This is my first post here, but I have been reading a lot for some days now
So this is the issue
Some days ago I bought on ebay from a reputable seller the sgs2 stated as unlocked for all networks. This is a UK phone but I am located in portugal, and I use a vodafone sim card
Much to my surprise I was greeted with the O2 logo when turning it on.. oh well.. no big issue on that but...! right after entering my sim card pin code it asked for a network lock control key.!
Trying to avoid too much assle for being a newbie in android I bought an unlock code from mobileunlocked, and well, it didn´t work! says "requesting network unlock" over a fraction of a second and then right afterwards "network unlock request unsucessfull"
Ok, so I went the hard way and read all about firmware and rooting at the android development part of the forum
Was able to flash the XWKE7 / baseband XXKE4 with odin, was able to root it with intratech´s thourough instructions, no more O2 startups or logos, even installed the galaxy S2 sim unlock (it finds the same unlock code I got before, and it is probably right)
but.... the dam unlock code question does not go away, so I have no mobile network at all!
Seems it tries to communicate with O2 for the unlocking but of course I am nowhere near the UK..
So I have a fantastic up to date piece of brick in my hands!
Could someone please help, how can I get over this network unlock code ?
I am running out of options, please help!
best rgds
Buy a code from somewhere online instead. They're more reliable then the app unlock.
Samsung phones can be locked by 4 methods methods but generally the first three are what you are interested in .
1. [NCK] Network lock
2. [SCK] Subset lock
3. [SPCK] SP lock
4. [MCK]
o2 generally only lock down NCK
1 ensure you have down the correct IMEI number , when you got your network unlock code was it just the unlock code they gave you or did they supply the above too.
2. you do not need to have an O2 sim to unlock as the procedure means you need to put a different sim in to enable the codes .
3 mobileunlocked.co.uk are very good and if you contact them they will be able to help you . Send them an email .
Hope this helps but just make sure you entered the correct IMEI number *#06# from the start .
good morning
indeed they do, I bought from them. I had to enter the MCK and then the NCK
how could I know ? lolol
also thank you guys for your prompt help
turning on the little devil as I write... ta nan!
I just purchased a unlocked my touch 3g ( I believe Magic) no slide.
At times my phone asks me to do a update.
When I look at what the update is it shows "Android System Update 1.2...The system is required to install Android version 2.2.1 on your device."
My phone states my firmware version is 1.6
So my questions are:
Do I need to perform this update?
Will this update lock my phone again ?
This is my 1st android phone and truthfully I'm not real technical. I have been going around googling different thing to make mysel more familar with the phone and Android.
Any help woul sure be appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Ok so 81 views and nobody knows.
Anybody have any idea what other sites out there may deal with this type of thing that they may be able to direct me to?
Thanks
Could you please provide the info on your fastboot? You can get to fastboot by turning the phone off, then turning it on while holding down the volume down button.

Ok, I think this is what your looking for?
Saphire Put 32a Ship S- ON G

I hope this helps and what you were asking for
Thanks
First off, you do not need to update if you don't want to. Second, I think the update will relock the phone, so I recommend not updating at all, unless you have a reliable method of unlocking again.

I appreciate the info
Ok there are two things:
1) Sim Lock.. if your phone is sim unlocked it will remain sim unlocked.. actually I don't think there is any documented way to re-sim lock the phone.
2) Root.. if your phone is rooted i recommend installing a rooted version of the upgrade if you desire to upgrade.. otherwise the upgrade will either unroot the phone or fail because the phone is currently rooted (possibly causing it not to boot into android until you restore a good firmware)
Remember the sim lock is different from root.. and you can be rooted but sim-locked... or sim-unlocked but not rooted.. the simlock is just the tie in to the carrier and part of the Radio.. not part of the android firmware. Further its in a special radio settings region that is not flashed when you change the phone's radio.
So if you have the stock un-rooted/un-modified firmware and wish to update feel free.. just note you may want to back up what you can first.. some people have had problems with the update going slow until they factory reset after the update..
ezterry,
Thanks for the info.
Truthfully I'm unsure about many things on this phone.
I purchased this phone off Ebay as a unlocked only phone.
When I received the phone I just popped in my sim-set up the phone and was done.
At this point though I'm not even sure its unlocked because it is a T=Mobile phone and my service is myfamily mobile, which is just T-Mobile sold at Walmart.
I put in a sim card from my neighbors AT &T and it asked me for a pin #.
I skipped putting in a pin and the phone opened up but said no service. With that I am just assuming it is truly unlocked.
Am I correct?
Um.. if it asked for an unlock code its locked.. if it was sold unlocked and showing the code you ought to have been provided the code by the seller.
Pin usually just means the owner of the sim locked put a pin on the sim to prevent it from its data/service being accessed by others. (The sims owner ought to know the pin) This pin needs to be entered into any phone the sim is put in.
As soon as I find another person with a different sim card I am going to try it again.
I do think it was a pin # that was asked.
Unfortunately the owner did not provide any sort of code when I purchased.
Its my understanding, and I may be wrong, that you can purchase unlocked phones new,and if so I'm not sure weather or not codes are provided for new phones.
This is all very new to me so I am not sure.

If a HTC Dream/Sapphire was sim locked at the factory you must put in a sim card from another carrier and unlock the phone.. If it was never locked (such as the Google versions of the phones) this is not needed.
Once Sim Unlocked it will remain so regardless.
Yes, this is a My touch 3g google version phone

ION = Google Development Phone = factory sim unlocked

So does this mean the phone is not unlocked and can only be used on T-Mobile?
or
Is it possible someone paid a 3rd party for a code to un-lock it?
I guess I really need to try like a AAT & T sim and see if I could service,as that was my undrstanding. I was under the impression that any gsm service provider uising a sim card would be operable.
You have gone in a circle now.. I told you if its sim locked when you put in a sim of a diffrent provider it will ask for an unlock code.. once sim unlocked it will *never* be locked again.
You will of course need a non tmo-us sim to be sure.
All I know is the MT3G will have been shipped from the factory locked.. I will not know the current state since the seller prob made sure it was unlocked if it wasn't already so if the phone was sold unlocked ..
The only other way I know to test is harder to do and possible risky with the firmware changes to do it w/o special htc serial wires.
And FYI a pin protected sim will ask for the sims pin before the sims carrier can be read (thus you need to provide the sims pin before it will ask for the unlock code if the phone is sim locked)
Ok,gotcha.
Sorry,told you not to savy
So I'll test another sim again and see what happens.
Thanks again for all the support

Ok.
So I pulled the sim card from my neighbors AT &T phone and when the phone booted up it asked me for :
"sim network unlock pin"
unlock
dismiss
My neighbor told me he didn't have a sim pin,but he used the code he has to lock his phone.
I received the same message when I tried someone elses sim who also states they have no pin number.
Message being: "Network Unlock Request Un succussful"
So am I correct in my thinking that this phone is not unlocked? and or it is sim locked?
I just e-mailed the seller asking him if he had the unlock code for the phone,so I can now only wait for his response. In the past he was not very responsive to past e-mails

Are you sure, Its not the case of Bad ESN? If so there's no way around.
Otherwise you can Order for Unlock code using your IMEI and purchase it through eBay or any other site.
Usually that's how i do. Easiest method to Unlock the device.
what means bad esn ? and how can i verify if it's bad ESN or not ?
i can purshase the code yes but how will i put it ? it don't let me type the code (phone is permanently locked)
thanks

If i describe an easy way about Bad ESN then it would be like, The Phone that you own has been stolen earlier or previous owner has reported it to respective carrier or company itself to Block its IMEI. In such case, Phone will be no longer Phone. Means for calling purpose.
If its a Clean ESN then things are pretty easy as it sounds. At first make sure you're not using the same Carrier SIM as your phone came with. Any other SIM, Insert it. It will basically asks you to enter code. Which will given to you once you purchase through either eBay or any Online site where they Unlocks IMEI for the device specific. Usually its a 7 Digit code, But may vary, enter exactly the same as provided by respected Seller or Anyone whom you've contacted. As you'll have only 10-Attempt to Unlock your device. Once it done, It will show like this: Your Device has been Successfully Unlocked, Now you can insert any SIM-Card, it will work.
To Check whether its been Bad ESN case or not, Just Google it: Bad ESN
thanks for these informations, i don't think the phone is stolen, it works with the owner's sim card, but it seems like the 10 attempts has been tried and can't enter unlock code anymore (hard locked) what to do in this case ?
thank you

I'm not sure, In this case there's any reset counter available or not. But surely if you want play around with your device with Owner's SIM in it. then do few things.
-Factory Reset your device, without inserting any SIM Card.
-Afterwards Purchase Unlock Code either online or contact Carrier company whichever company's SIM Card working in your device and ask them for Unlock Code.
They will basically asks few details and give you Unlock Code for free, Otherwise purchase it through online, but before make sure to insert any non-legit sim in it whether Enter PIN menu POP-Ups or not.
Do these, will possibly reset the counter for you. Or else i'm helpless buddy.:fingers-crossed:
All of this were done and the counter is still not reset, i'm hopeless, thank you anyway
i've heared there may be a solution by uploading a new qcn file with QPS, any idea ?
hard reset is the same thing as Fatory reset ? else ?
thanks
