Guys
I've searched the forums and realise I can buy a SIM unlock code for my Blackstone, however I'm trying to clarify the following.
1. If I install a different ROM do I still need to buy the unlock?
2. If I changed the EMEI (I want the phone to match my in car fixed EMEI - I realise the blackstone has to be switched off when in the car else conflicts) does that mean the phone has to be unlocked again?
3. Once the phone has been unlocked if I change the ROM will it have to be unlocked again?
What prompted the question is reading the Wiki few areas actually simlock the phones....therefore my assumption is a different ROM means it could become unlocked.
Thanks in advance for the help.
Regards
Its an unlocked phone my friend so obviously you pay a higher price for the phone itself able to use with any sim card. Carriers phone that are branded with the carrier logo are usually cheaper with a plan that could cost more then the phone overtime and is locked to the phone carrier which requires a sim unlocking code to use with other sim cards/ other carriers.
The answer to that is you can install any rom on the phone and if it an unlocked htc touch hd which you paid a lot for then it will be unlocked forever
if its locked to a carrier im not sure about that maybe someone can clarify.
any ideas please guys, I get the phone in a couple of hours.
bump
Anyone?
Try to keep this short
1. If I install a different ROM do I still need to buy the unlock?
No Simlock is based on the radio and hardware (short version).
Once unlocked yoiu can up your rom and your radio, it stays unlocked.
2. If I changed the EMEI (I want the phone to match my in car fixed EMEI - I realise the blackstone has to be switched off when in the car else conflicts) does that mean the phone has to be unlocked again?
Got me lost on this one.
Simlock is based on radio and Hardware.
So your IMEI is part of the phone which is either Sim Locked or not.
If you put your sim into what ever is in phone is in your car your number will be the same.
Once you have sim unlocked a device it remains unlocked.
Like I said you lost me.
3. Once the phone has been unlocked if I change the ROM will it have to be unlocked again?
No - Once done it remains unlocked regardless of rom or radio upgrade.
(and if you buy a new Simlocked Blackstrone you cant use your old code as the lock is based on the hardware)
What prompted the question is reading the Wiki few areas actually simlock the phones....therefore my assumption is a different ROM means it could become unlocked.
--->point me to the page that you feel needs updated, i will have a go at it.
(please PM me)

I see these ?'s have been asked hundreds of times before, however my proble is a little different.
I have an O2 Xda from the UK that was on the O2 network.
I have moved to Australia and wish to use the device on the Telstra network, but the Xda has been network locked. As my device has an old ROM version i think i need to upgrade first, before running xdaunlock.exe.
Can anyone offer advise?
Cheers
:? :?
You have two possibilities to unlock your phone.
If you got an serial cable to attach your XDA you can use the xda manipulator to unlock it.
In the other case i would suggest you go to www.yorch.net, cook your own rom with the 3.17.03 Rom and use the xdaunlock tool....
HTH
Stefan
just do this simple thing... downlaod xda developers v1.2 and put your xda into the sync cradel with no sim or sd card in then follow it though.......
once done hard reset it....
then it will unlock your device when it starts up
then you can decide to stay on pc2002 or go to pc2003 as your device will not need to be unlocked again
I had a look at the xda-developers v1.2, it would appear my service provider is not on the list (Telstra) will this rom still work or will i have to find a ROM written for the Telstra network?
Cheers :?
the ROM has nothing to do with the operator. It's the RSU version that might not work with your new network. Just get your device unlocked and let's see if it receives the signal or not, then you may have to do RSU upgrade.
Unlock via XDAUnlock?
I have a TMO XDA with ROM4.01.00 and RS6.24.01. I'm selling it and need to unlock it for the buyer.
Is XDAUnlock the path to go?
if i'm not wrong, XDAunlock works only with ROMs with wmodem application and I'm not aware of any wm2003 that has it.
TMO 4.01.00 is available as exe upgrade. just flash your XDA with ROM 3.17 which will unlock your device then reflash back using TMO 4.01.00
good luck
SIM Unlocking
Thanks. Question on the SIM card. All this "unlocking" occurs with the sim card inside? Just to check:
1) With my sim inside, install Yorch's ROM3.17, when asked, unlock phone, finish install.
- Now this means the PDA phone has no phone service, correct? but PDA works?
2) Now install ROM4.01.00, RS6.24.01 with phone unlocked.
3) Remove sim card.
4) Ship to new owner
5) New owner inserts their sim card. Now what? They call their carrier with IMEI #?
Thanks
No, when you put the 3.17 ROM, the phone part should continue working as long as you don't touch the RSU. The SIM has nothing to do with all this stuff. All the locking info is within the GSM firm ware of your device. I would prefer to remove the SIM while flashing the ROM.
If your locked device works now with your SIM, it will definitly work after unlocking BUT it is not a good prove that it's really unlocked. You have to test it with another SIM before shiping to the buyer.
PS: no matter your dial or IMEI is, GSM system deals with a unique identifier for the SIM which called MSISDN. So, don't worry about the buyer

I never realized you could operate the unit without a sim card inside. I guess I'll have to try it and learn along the way. It seems removing the sim card forces a hard reset.
If all the locking info is in the GSM firmware and Yorch 3.17 ROM upgrade doesn't touch the RSU, how does the XDAUnlock operate then?

During the unlock, the 3.17.03 set the phone to a model PW10A. My phone is a PW10B (USA). None of the .exe upgrade software will upgrade unit as they think it's the wrong band. I tried the Bootloader 5.15 - calendar and set the GSM to 900/1800 but model doesn't change in the identify screen. The sim has not been in the phone this whole time.
How do I change the model back to PW10B?
Fixed Wrong Band Problem
I put a ROM 4.0x.xx.nb1 file onto my SD card and using Wallaby Bootloader, flashed the unit's ROM. This appeared to have put the model back to PW10B1. Then I used the ROM4.01.00.exe to finalize the WM2003 upgrade. Phone is sim unlocked. Question:
when does phone become sim unlocked again? i.e. if I was to put my sim back in the phone, and connect to TMO, would that then lock the phone to TMO? Or once it's unlocked, it's unlocked for life? Just curious.
Typo
Should read, "when does phone get sim locked again", not sim unlocked.

The phone will remain unlocked to all networks.
Although I've understood and done several things talked about on these forums I'm doing so without knowing what and why I'm doing some things, so hopefully a few simple ones. I'd appreciate a couple of someones minutes (I've had a searching spree but tbh the boolean searches blow for some reason)
1) What does CID stand for and what is it?
2) I'm in the UK and assuming it amounts to what we call a "Sim Lock" where an airtime provider (T-Mobile, O2 etc.) lock the phone to only accept their sim cards. Is this what it is or is it more complicated?
3) It is a requirement to unlock the CID before flashing new roms, I've unlocked mine and flashed a radio rom. Are the rom and CID tied together somehow?
4) I unlocked mine (T-Mobile UK MDA Vario), with aWizard. I've since seen lokiwiz unlocks CID. Is this simply 2 programs doing exactly the same thing?
5) Is the CID unlock a one shot deal, it remains unlocked regardless of soft and hard resets?
6) Can CID be reset to on in case of a return being necessary?
Thx in advance for any input.
I've recently bought an unlocked G1 from eBay. It's works with a Vodafone Sim I have, so the Unlock code has already been put in, but the seller didn't provide the code to me.
My question is, if I root the phone, install a new SPL, Radio and, say, Cyanogen's ROM, would it require me to enter the unlock code again?
Or, is the fact the phone is unlocked stored forever?
This is a UK G1 btw
no, unlocked forever
I just purchased a unlocked my touch 3g ( I believe Magic) no slide.
At times my phone asks me to do a update.
When I look at what the update is it shows "Android System Update 1.2...The system is required to install Android version 2.2.1 on your device."
My phone states my firmware version is 1.6
So my questions are:
Do I need to perform this update?
Will this update lock my phone again ?
This is my 1st android phone and truthfully I'm not real technical. I have been going around googling different thing to make mysel more familar with the phone and Android.
Any help woul sure be appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Ok so 81 views and nobody knows.
Anybody have any idea what other sites out there may deal with this type of thing that they may be able to direct me to?
Thanks
Could you please provide the info on your fastboot? You can get to fastboot by turning the phone off, then turning it on while holding down the volume down button.

First off, you do not need to update if you don't want to. Second, I think the update will relock the phone, so I recommend not updating at all, unless you have a reliable method of unlocking again.

I appreciate the info
Ok there are two things:
1) Sim Lock.. if your phone is sim unlocked it will remain sim unlocked.. actually I don't think there is any documented way to re-sim lock the phone.
2) Root.. if your phone is rooted i recommend installing a rooted version of the upgrade if you desire to upgrade.. otherwise the upgrade will either unroot the phone or fail because the phone is currently rooted (possibly causing it not to boot into android until you restore a good firmware)
Remember the sim lock is different from root.. and you can be rooted but sim-locked... or sim-unlocked but not rooted.. the simlock is just the tie in to the carrier and part of the Radio.. not part of the android firmware. Further its in a special radio settings region that is not flashed when you change the phone's radio.
So if you have the stock un-rooted/un-modified firmware and wish to update feel free.. just note you may want to back up what you can first.. some people have had problems with the update going slow until they factory reset after the update..
ezterry,
Thanks for the info.
Truthfully I'm unsure about many things on this phone.
I purchased this phone off Ebay as a unlocked only phone.
When I received the phone I just popped in my sim-set up the phone and was done.
At this point though I'm not even sure its unlocked because it is a T=Mobile phone and my service is myfamily mobile, which is just T-Mobile sold at Walmart.
I put in a sim card from my neighbors AT &T and it asked me for a pin #.
I skipped putting in a pin and the phone opened up but said no service. With that I am just assuming it is truly unlocked.
Am I correct?
Um.. if it asked for an unlock code its locked.. if it was sold unlocked and showing the code you ought to have been provided the code by the seller.
Pin usually just means the owner of the sim locked put a pin on the sim to prevent it from its data/service being accessed by others. (The sims owner ought to know the pin) This pin needs to be entered into any phone the sim is put in.
As soon as I find another person with a different sim card I am going to try it again.
I do think it was a pin # that was asked.
Unfortunately the owner did not provide any sort of code when I purchased.
Its my understanding, and I may be wrong, that you can purchase unlocked phones new,and if so I'm not sure weather or not codes are provided for new phones.
This is all very new to me so I am not sure.

If a HTC Dream/Sapphire was sim locked at the factory you must put in a sim card from another carrier and unlock the phone.. If it was never locked (such as the Google versions of the phones) this is not needed.
Once Sim Unlocked it will remain so regardless.
Yes, this is a My touch 3g google version phone

So does this mean the phone is not unlocked and can only be used on T-Mobile?
or
Is it possible someone paid a 3rd party for a code to un-lock it?
I guess I really need to try like a AAT & T sim and see if I could service,as that was my undrstanding. I was under the impression that any gsm service provider uising a sim card would be operable.
You have gone in a circle now.. I told you if its sim locked when you put in a sim of a diffrent provider it will ask for an unlock code.. once sim unlocked it will *never* be locked again.
You will of course need a non tmo-us sim to be sure.
All I know is the MT3G will have been shipped from the factory locked.. I will not know the current state since the seller prob made sure it was unlocked if it wasn't already so if the phone was sold unlocked ..
The only other way I know to test is harder to do and possible risky with the firmware changes to do it w/o special htc serial wires.
And FYI a pin protected sim will ask for the sims pin before the sims carrier can be read (thus you need to provide the sims pin before it will ask for the unlock code if the phone is sim locked)
Ok,gotcha.
Sorry,told you not to savy
So I'll test another sim again and see what happens.
Thanks again for all the support

Ok.
So I pulled the sim card from my neighbors AT &T phone and when the phone booted up it asked me for :
"sim network unlock pin"
unlock
dismiss
My neighbor told me he didn't have a sim pin,but he used the code he has to lock his phone.
I received the same message when I tried someone elses sim who also states they have no pin number.
Message being: "Network Unlock Request Un succussful"
So am I correct in my thinking that this phone is not unlocked? and or it is sim locked?
I just e-mailed the seller asking him if he had the unlock code for the phone,so I can now only wait for his response. In the past he was not very responsive to past e-mails
Hi guys,HTC tell me my beloved HD2 is now a brick, however it receives data even though it won't handle calls - so is the radio dead as HTC techies reckon?
If I try & make a call all I get are three 'dub dub dub's then nothing
The problem started after I had my number ported from Vodafone to T-mobile (UK) Trouble is I also flashed an Android ROM (Nexus fro XDA) at the same time so not sure which caused the problem.
Phone has always been unlocked
Checked APNs & so on, factory resets etc.
Tried different (Tesco) SIM same issue
Tried T Mob SIM in different phone OK
T-Mobile techies tell me IMEI is not blocked but can't come up with a solution
Flashed back to stock WM6.5 ROM from HTC site via SD card (previously tried USB) which I believe updates the radio as well? Bootloader tells me I'm on SPL 3.03 so everything should be back to factory settings Radio is 2.15 50.40
Could it be that Vodafone have somehow locked my phone in the porting?
What else can I do, please?
Ok you said your device is unlocked, do you mean SIM unlocked? Cause if it is not SIM unlocked this would be the reason for your issue. If it is SIM unlocked then either you have a faulty SIM card reader in your device, your SIM card is faulty, or the carrier has not done something right. Last thing I can come up with is that something could possibly be wrong with the internal antenna of your device. I will contemplate more on this and if I come up with something I will post back here in this thread.

Hi thanks, its SIM unlocked. Previous to changing carrier/flashing ROM (wish I'd done one at a time!) everything was fine SIM read OK, antenna must be OK as I can connect to internet.
Any further ideas appreciated, however!
Could be a bad unlock occurred but it is unusual.
reflashing rom maybe a good test option as will trying a few other sim cards/providers to rule out sim & network issues ...
Also when you did the SIM unlock were you using Windows Mobile or Android. You have to use Windows Mobile to SIM unlock the HD2 or it will not work.

This is not entirely true: there are android NAND ROMs that allow you to entry SIM-unlock code!
Edit: it seems it unlocks it temporarily until next reboot! I'll study that and post observations...

Yes it is entirely true, the SIM unlock is something the is done through the IPL. This means the OS has to be able to communicate with the IPL. When you are using Android neither cLK or MAGLDR can communicate with the IPL. The Android ROMs do have the SIM unlock feature but it will not work on the HD2, well it works bit it does not permanent and you have to do the unlock every time you reboot the device. This has been proven time and time again here. Take a few minutes to do some searching on this subject and you will see I am telling the truth. Better yet ask Samsamuel or MisterB andthey will tell you the same.
Ok, thanks...
I'll do my homework!

not getting calls etc
Thanks everyone for the hints, took it into Vodafone shop, tried a spare sim & lo & behold we have calls; so it was locked to Vfone, I just happened to be on the Vfone network when I got the phone
Now I have to wait for Vfone to get unlock code from HTC - 5 days! That's modern communications for you!
Thanks again
