Guys, thanks to all of you - especially frysee, who was a big help via Gtalk - the biggest part of my problem is solved:
My Transformer is still bricked and display won't turn on, but I was able to go back to stock ROM and wipe all personal data. So I won't get any trouble with warranty
If anyone is interested, me or frysee could write a How To for returning to stock ROM and retrieve warranty when screen is dead.
Thanks again!

Hi Guys!
I have a problem that is pretty common over at MoDaCo, but I haven't read anything about it here.
My Transformer sometimes doesn't turn on or wake up from sleep mode when turned on already. You can push the power button endlessly and nothing happens. Then suddenly it'll turn on as if nothing had happened.
I had this problem the first time right out of the box, so there's no bad software installed by me, don't know what ASUS did though. Perhaps it's one of the pre-installed apps.
As I said, normally it eventually comes to life again, but now I couldn't turn it on for a whole day! After I had no success, I left it on the charger over night, but still nothing this morning.
I feel I tried everything, pushed Vol Down + Power to go into recovery, pushed Vol Up + Vol Down and plugged USB to go into (useless) flash mode just to see the device to something, but no.
The only things that happen, if I push power:
- if I plug USB, the Windows plug and play sound plays and if I force shutdown the Transformer again (long-press power), the unplug sound plays. The device even appears in the Explorer and I can access SD card, but it only shows empty folders, no files in them.
- When I force-shutdown the device, I hear an internal "click" sound, similar to the one when you switch from front to rear camera, and you hear the speakers turn off. So it seems to initialize everything and stuff...
But all the time the Transformer screen stays dead
Any advice? Really need your help here guys! At MoDaCo there's no answer so far...
Regards,
qwer23
I was initially having this problem with my Transformer (it would usually happen when it had gone on standby and it couldn't get it to turn back on again) until I ran the ASUS updates on it - have you been able to update your Transformer on the occasions it did turn on for you?
If you've rooted it and stopped the OTA updates going onto it, you might just have to undo that and get an official ASUS firmware build on there to help fix the problem.

Hi!
First of all, thx for your answer.
Well as I said, the first time the problem occured, the device was out of the box and untouched before. So I don't think it has to do with something I did.
For me it normally also happened when device was in sleep mode, except the first time out of the box
I installed a custom ROM + Clockworkmod Recovery after that, hoping it'll fix the deep sleep problem. And it really didn't happen again - until now
I didn't turn off OTA updates as I first saw that thread when the device was already dead Perhaps it tried to OTA update itself but I guess I would have to confirm this manually right? And I didn't do that...
Reflashing another ROM or the stock ROM was my first idea, too. But hell, I can't even go to recovery! No matter what I do, press, plug or unplugg, the screen stays black!
Nice, another german Transformer
"playing the plug and play sound" means you propably have adb access? Tried getting a logcat?

Ahh. I didn't realise the screen was completely dead, I thought you had it working some of the time as had happened to me.
If you're seeing it in Explorer, maybe it is just a hardware failure and you'll have to get Asus to look at it...

no i guess that it is indeed the same thing that happened to you, sometimes it worked, sometimes not. only this time it doesn't come back from the not working part I guess you see yours in explorer too if it troubles to get out of deep sleep. i guess it's just the screen that sometimes doesn't turn on for all with that problem. but for me it doesn't even turn on for booting

It's possible. I don't think I tested connecting it to the Explorer while the screen was off, I assumed it just wasn't on.
Can you test it with the HDMI out and see if that shows you what would be on screen?

Yeah, good idea! Will try this asap when I'm back home. Do I have to press something on the TF to enable HDMI output or is it enough to plug it in?

When it seems dead, try holding the power button for about 5 seconds (or whatever time you hold it for when turning it off)
Leave for about 2 minutes then hold power button again (like you do when turning device on) and it should boot.

I guess so
I'm getting a mini-hdmi cable today to determine if the screen is broken, because i have the feeling that ***** is booting but not showing anything...But I'll have to send it to ASUS nonetheless. Has anyone ever sent a device in for warranty reasons with custom software (CWM, Custom ROM) on it? What kind of trouble will I have to face?
I'd say try it with the HDMI cable, see if you get anything up on it and if the touchscreen/everything else still works, see if you can get the latest official ROM on there, see if that fixes the problem.
If nothing else, you can then send it back with an official firmware on it.
Try holding the power button for 5-10 sec, then press power + volume down (might be volume up - try both) together for another 5-6 sec. You'll get to a reset screen where it asks you to confirm if you want to wipe everything. press volume down (I think!! - read the screen carefully) instead to boot normally.
hope this helps
Its 10+ seconds for a full power off by the way, nothing shorter than that. If you changed any system files either by flashing or by pushing via ADB then you will have invalidated your warranty. Unless you can restore it to the way it was before you fiddled with it, you'll have an expensive paperweight.

Big bummer And sadly there are no "ASUS Stores" around where I could use a stupid employee who has no clue and is convinced it's hardware related.
Well I don't have my HDMI cable by now and will try this first, but if that doesn't work:
Can someone give me a step-by-step how I can access the restore function of CWM without seeing anything on my device? I did a backup in CWM before installing the custom ROM. Perhaps tell me sth. like this: "press power+vol. down on start, then after approx. x seconds press vol up, wait a bit to make sure CWM started, press vol down twice, to go to recovery, ..."
And can someone do the same for the stock recovery to reset the device? Perhaps there's a chance that a failed OTA update deleted CWM an there's the stock recovery.
I know the chance to save it like this are small, but otherwise a lot of money is lost
Regards,
qwer23
On the flip side however, you could probably make some money by being the first to dismantle your device, and sell the photos of the internals to some website like iFixit. Then you could also sell it off as parts on eBay. Obviously it might take more effort than you are willing to give it, but at least it's another option.
If you do decide to open it up I would love to hear what mA rating the battery has on its label. Not being able to find out the actual proper rating from any site has been driving me nuts. I believe it's 6800mA but im not 100% sure.
Hey Guys I need some help please!
I have a friend, which will be joining this thread soon, that has a samsung tab 2 GT-P3113 7" .
He is not able to power on the device, I suggested holding the power button down for 30-40 seconds but that didn't work.
He charged it overnight and he can see the charging icon, he then tried again holding the power button for 30-40 seconds...still nothing.
He informed me that when he connects his tab to his computer it says:" I should install OMAP3440 driver for connection".
Sorry , this is all I have, I'm not familiar with the tab 2 .
Thank you!
Isnt there a reset button/procedure? Like hold power button and volume up or down?
My P3110 will not arrive till next week so i can say for sure.
Try holding the Volume Down button and the power button. Keep holding them and you should get a warning about running custom software. If you get this, then you could download an Odin restore package and flash it to the tablet to get it back up and running. The fact that it shows the charging image is a good sign, Hopefully it can be fixed from there.

Yes, I did, but it doesn't work for this tab. Only there is a good sign I can see: the charging icon come up when I plug tab to wall or pc, and when I try to connect to pc, I get a message from pc saying I should install driver for OMAP3440. This is the driver for Texas Instrument processor that come inside tab.
I don't know if this tab is bricked or not, so I'm stop just at this step.
Thanks & thank you so much to spagman72 for his valuable help

Yes, I did exactly as you have said, but it doesn't work, nothing warning about custom software, just black screen. Also, pls note that when I try to connect to pc, I get a message from pc saying I should install driver for OMAP3440. This is the driver for Texas Instrument processor that come inside tab.
Thank you
It is for omap4430 driver (not omap 3440)
Correction: when i have connected tab to pc, message is for install drivers OMAP4430, not OMAP3440 as I have said before. Very sorry for this mistake. :crying: :crying:

When you see the charging icon unplug it from the charger then try and power and vol down. Don't keep holding power for to long or it will hard reboot it before it gets to download mode.

Love your rom btw try volume down, (for download), or volume up, (for recovery), First then hold/engage power button and hold, then release power button after boot screen blacks out and continue to hold up or down volume for recovery/download. Appropriate screen should pop up...if you get that far there are many options and I'm sure someone here can help you

If you can get into download mode it may be a good idea to try flashing firmware through Odin to rebuild it back to factory.
I had the same issue after flashing the wrong kernel/ Rom combo while trying to get ubuntu touch to boot.

I had this same problem with one of my Samsung tab 2 GT-P3113 7.0's. After trying everything I could find online I decided to open it up and have a look inside. Opening a 7.0 is different than a 10.1 so check a YouTube video to see how it is done. After removing the back cover I immediately noticed that a small ribbon cable had some how become disconnected. I simply snapped it back into place then checked all of the other ribbon cables I could see and then tried to turn the unit on and it worked! problem solved!
If you have tried all of the other methods posted then you should give this a try, because at that point you have nothing to lose.
My Tablet gets handled by a lot of people daily and most likely it was dropped which caused the cable to be knocked free of its connection.

Assuming your doing it the correct way.. Place your finger on he home key, then volume down, (don't press yet) then find the power key.. Press all 3 at the same time, once the screen lights up, let go of the power button..
M,
connect your tab to your pc and run
adb reboot recovery
if that works, ONLY perform a wipe cache function
and then reboot
There are numerous tutorials on XDA for setting up adb.
It is possible to render your device inoperable by having too many background processe running.
if you can get it rebooted consider removing some of the more "expensive" apps or find an auto start auto run killer that works for you.

this will sound goofy, but, make yourself comfortable and hold down just the power button for as long as you can.
and make sure you actually pressing it , some times fingernails get in the way and the button doesn't actually get pressed.
you are trying to get it to cycle on and off, if you can hold the button down for ten minutes then do it.

I've seen a few people with this problem for the Tab S. From what I heard it caused by the Tab being locked up and not being able to turn on or boot even with full charged battery.
So the two options/solutions I have seen are
1.wait a week or two until it drains and press power or charge it after that time and see if it does something(may not always work since it takes ages in this case)
2. Take apart the Tab and unplug and plug back in the battery connector (very dangerous if you don't know what your doing)
3. Take it to samsung and say you were updating through kies and it did this
Just don't charge it as I am hoping the Tab needs the battery drained.

With out sounding disrespectful to the person in need here, but this guy is a n00b and wouldn't know what an ADB from a CMD..
If your still under warranty, contact Samsung and you might get lucky and get a functioning refurb..
Hello i have recently tried to return my phone from cyanogenmod into the stock rom using this thread: "https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/general/guide-return-to-stock-relock-bootloader-t3489110" and my phone got stuck in the process while making the command "fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img". And now my device is stuck on boot loop showing the cyanogenmod loading screen.
Anyway now i found a way to get to stock but for that i need to get my device into fastboot. THE PROBLEM IS that my device can't get now into fastboot! i have tried using adb commands but the adb doesn't recognize the device. I have tried fastboot commands but again it doesn't recognize the device. I also tried button combinations, but it didn't work.
Until the incidence i have used to press the power button+ vol down keys to get into fastboot mode, but now it doesn't work. I suspect that it doesn't work since in order to get into fastboot with the button combination i need to first get the device turned off. But when i connect my device to the charger it shows the battery charging screen and the device is stuck on that screen even if it has disconnected from the charger, and it will keep on that screen until the battery has depleted. I have tried shutting it down using the power button but then my phone gets into a loop with the cyanogenmod loading screen, and even if i turn it off it restarts instead.
p.s I have used to think that my fastboot was deleted but on an other thread i have been told that as long as i see the cyanogenmod loading screen of the OS that means i have a boot-loader.
Please help!
I want to get into Fastboot on my Moto Pure.
Thanks a lot
Eden.
Power down 1st
Try volume down & power key together. That will get you into fastboot directly.
Oops just seen that, my bad, I wont respond anymore.

u cant poweroff does that means your phone is continuously bootlooping or its just booting but takes a hell lotta time to boot up?

I think @edenah is saying it just gets stuck at the loading screen. If the battery discharges all the way and the device is plugged in, the battery symbol shows and after the charger is unplugged, the battery charging doesn't go away until the battery dies again or the power button is pressed (which leaves us right back to where we started)

Try this:
Hold power button for 10-20 sek, when screen will turn off hold only vol-(at bootloop screen).
You should flash stock without "oem" commands.
Find how to update bootloader.

It recognizes it as portable usb device.
And well. I have bought the device in the us but i live outside of the US. so its bit problematic to return it now. Some help could do the trick!
I found SP flash tool and i believe it would do the trick. But i need to get the scatter loading file of the moto pure, but i can't find it anywhere, maybe anyone got the idea how to get that?

We haven't been able to get the QLoad files for most Moto devices, at least not for the last 2-3 years... Sorry.
Well i have found a way to get the device charged while the screen is off!
If i connect it to my computer while pressing the power button and the vol down button and keep pressing it, the device stays turned off!
Now i'm trying to play with it, to turn the bootloader. so far the classical power and vol combo doesn't work.

I am stuck. No button combination works. I suspect that the device isn't really off but the display is just closed. As even to open up the device takes a reallly long press on the power button.
if it got interrupted while flashing bootloader, you're pretty much not going to be able to do anything.
motorola service center is likely the only place that can fix it.
sorry for your luck.

Lost cause? No, probably not... Do you know anyone in the US you trust well enough to receive the phone from repair and ship it to you where ever you are? I believe that is all you need. The US service center cannot ship outside of North America (maybe US), but they can receive packages from anywhere. If you had a US contact that could receive the device and forward it on to you it might be worth it to get it fixed if it is still under warranty, if it isn't, then it might not be worth fixing. Lots of things to consider here.
Ok, here's as much info as I can give as my phone is locked up:
Stock Mi A1 with 1st Oreo update: December patch level
I have not tried to load anything custom on it, nor have I even loaded the apps to do so.
I took my phone out of my pocket and it is locked on on a screen that says Fastboot.
Power button does not work. Long press power button does not work. Power+UP volume button does not work. Power+UP+DOWN volume buttons do not work.
Plugging the phone into the computer via USB port does nothing.
The battery is non-removable, so I can't pull it to reset.
I am at a complete loss as to what happened, why it happened, and how to resolve it. The phone was working fine this morning. I took it out of my pocket to use it and then discovered the issue. I live in Thailand, and there are no local service centers for Xiaomi, so hopefully someone will have an idea of how to fix the issue.
Any help, ideas or suggestions would be MOST appreciated!
Regards,
KB
UPDATE: I tried to restart the phone via the power button while it was plugged into the computer via USB. Holding the power button down for 10 seconds (guesstimate) did force a restart. This was NOT the case when not plugged in. In any event, if anyone has an idea of what happened and why, I would really like to know! I am wondering if there was some sort of long press key combo or something that happened while it was in my pocket.
Sorry for replying to my own post, but I am totally confused by this issue. I did a lot of searching and reading on Fastboot, and they ALL said that to get there, you had to enable Developer Tools on your phone, download a program for your computer, and then connect the phone via USB.
Here's the thing: I have a photo of the screen, so this is not some hallucination!
1) I DID NOT have Developer Tools enabled on the device. (I do now as I enabled it to see if it was already enabled...it wasn't)
2) I DID NOT download and install an ADB program for the computer.
3) I DID NOT (before the issue) connect the phone to the computer via USB.
So my question is how the h*ll did I get into Fastboot?????
This is really concerning as maybe Xiaomi has an issue similar to the root issue One Plus had and I happened to pocket dial the right combo???? In any event, it does not give me a warm fuzzy about what is going on behind the scenes here!
Any thoughts or info appreciated.

To get phone into fastboot mode you have to hold power off + volume down button. Might have happened in tight pocket.

Thanks mysiak...in all my reading, nowhere was that mentioned! And yeah, it was in a pocket pressed up against a seat, so could easily have pocket dialed that combo.
Also, it is not easy to find the solution when it is locked there. I THOUGHT I had held the power off button long enough when trying to get out of Fastboot, but maybe missed it by a second or two. My solution was just to hold down the power button until the phone turned off. Whether that is the correct solution, I don't know as I still have not found anything about getting into and out of Fastboot without a computer.

Power+volume down button is the usual way how to get into fastboot mode. From a PC you can type "adb reboot bootloader", but many prefer just using phone buttons combo (myself including). If you want to get out of fastboot, you either hold power off button until phone vibrates shortly - this works in whatever mode, even if powered on, basically it's "emergency shutdown" as we don't have removable battery. Or if you are connected to a PC, type "fastboot reboot".
Long story short, you did it right
Btw. if you will hold power+volume up combo long enough, you'll end in stock recovery mode with "no command" on the screen. Don't panic, just hold power off button and then start phone normally
I had the same problem and plugged into the computer via USB and holding the power button down for 10 seconds did force a restart. and the phone is OK since then!!! Thank you you saved my time!!!
Thank you.
Picked up my Mi A1 this morning and it had the beautiful FASTBOOT icon on the screen. The phone has been lying on my desk for several weeks without a SIM. When I could not clear the FASTBOOT message I Googled for a solution and this thread was the result. I just wanted to record my grateful thanks. I plugged the phone into a computer USB socket and held the power button until the error message disappeared, as recommended by KB_Thailand..
XDA doing what it aims to do.:good:
It is always nice to find solutions instead of even more questions. Glad that it helped!
After the initial glitches, the A1 has been pretty dang dependable.
I still am using my A1. The A2 and A3 (someone needs to be fired over that monstrosity) left me flat. I am hoping against hope that the A4 will be 'the one', otherwise I am going to have to look for something other than Xiaomi.
