I recently bought a Samsung Galaxy S2 & like other on here suffer from the framerate drop when recording HD indoors, but works perfectly fine outdoors.
To me this isn't a massive problem, as i find for indoor use 720x480p perfectly fine, and i don't suffer from either the pink spot, bad screen or the overheating that other have reported, and don't want to run the risk of returning my phone just to get the same problem again with the other faults added.
Anyways those that suffer from this please post your camera firmware, just to see if this framerate drop is link to just a certain firmware type or not.

Take a screen shot of a pure white wall or something similar, I'm pretty sure you'll find a pink spot in the center of the image

Hi, same firmware versions, phone made in china by samsung. Severe stuttering in low light conditions.

Even in low light or night conditions? I have [email protected] in low light condition, if iset exposure to -2, but the framerate is still unstable.
Just did a 1080p recording in the dark with only the television on, got 21 frames per second, the video was still pretty good IMHO especially for the conditions under which I made the recording

Very low.. do you have sinusoidal noise on your video? In my case i got sinusoidal noise when i take videos of tv/monitors or lamps under certain light conditions.
I too get the bad framerate when its auto focusing in low light areas, especially indoors. However, outdoors it always performs flawlessly even when its focusing. Lowering the video quality to 720p doesnt help. I guess its a hardware optimisation thing? Im sure the 1.2 GHz exynos is more than capable of 1080p recording anywhere.

I'm no camera specialist, if you are talking about the glare that comes off the television screens, then yes I had that, the quality was acceptable to me, especially considering the fact that I can make phone calls, send text messages, browse the internet, make tweets, browse facebook and google+, play games among other things.
I think if you want absolutely the best to record videos or take pictures, a smart phone may not be the best device, there will be shortcomings...
Finally! This problem is solved by ICS 4.0.3 + lgCamera!

"lg camera" is an app for every android devices which gives you change bitrate up to 20mb/s, framerate and in 1280x720p mode manual ISO.

You can solve this problem like that... Open "LgCamera" in video mode select resolution and set to 1280x720 and set ISO from "auto" to "100". Now switch between photograph and video mode again. Thats it! You can get 29 fps in every place even a lot darker places. Of course the video file will be darker cause the ISO. The last thing as I sick, "LgCamera"s video quality is very bad though these good features.

For the test, I used some professional light measuring equipment (my DSLR).
I captured an image at F/2.8, ISO 400, at 0 EV. Maxed out brightness on the Note 2, with Auto adjust screen tone off (important). I used a completely white picture shot at the same distance.
Before update:
Shutter speed 1/125s
After update:
Shutter speed 1/500s!
That is exactly 2 full stops. Or 4 times the original brightness.
Now, 400% sounds like a lot, like it would blind you. I don't want to create an over-expectation. It's seems adequately bright in a well lit room, where previously in that same room, the phone maybe seemed kinda dim.
I previously posted when I first got my original Galaxy Note II, that I was a little disappointed because people kept saying it is the brightest screen they ever had, and mine was far from that. But maybe those people saying that had something like this originally, but I just got it now. And it is beautiful.

Camera is just fine. It is a precision instrument and I have definitive proof with 2 JPG and CR2 files with EXIF information. But maybe the Korean Note 2 was configured to be dimmer than the Note 2 that you have.
Funny thing is iPhone 5 was just released this week, and that screen is cranked up to super bright when put next to the Note 2. It is a shocking comparison, but now the Note 2 can hold it's own. But maybe they didn't want the negative press and decided to enable the brighter mode for the Korean customers as well.
If your thought your screen was never that dim in bright settings, maybe it will not impact your screen at all. On the other hand, if you were disappointed with the screen's brightness bright rooms or show rooms, then you may be very surprised when the update is applied. No promises. I heard through the grapevine from another XDA member I should expect a big boost in brightness, and I did want to confirm it so I prepared my camera to do testing before I hit update, and after. The improvement has exceeded my expectations.

are you sure u shot the photos in the same conditions ? same lightning / sun in the room? totall darkness room ?
but if its 400% brighter you should see difference by ur bare eyes.
4.1.1 to 4.1.2 made no difference in brightness here.
the only thing i seems to notice is that my screen has become sharper. since 4.1.2
also making pictures with the phones cam has improved 200% in dark places also the flash timing and photo taking has improved. i noticed

Yes, I did it in a controlled lighted environment. It was a scientific test. I understand light, and how to measure it very accurately because of my years studying photography.
With that said, my model is a Korean SHV-E250L Galaxy Note 2. I got it OTA from my carrier yesterday. The maximum brightness when I got the phone, originally was not as bright as I had hoped. And I just didn't understand how people were saying it was the brightest screen they had. I thought it was just some fake reviews of people trying to promote their haphazardly written reviews that was written with rumors than actual time with the device.
But now I know that some people got really bright Note 2's out of the box, and some didn't. I'm just hoping that people who wished that their Note 2 was a lot brighter, because they think it is dim, may experience the same effect with an update when it arrives.

Here are the JPEG and CR2's. These pics are not glamour product shots. They are for the purposes of measurements off a highly calibrated light measuring device. You have to look at the EXIF information. The whole point is to take the same picture with the same level of brightness, by only exposing the sensor to 1/4 of the original open shutter time. The shutter speed indicates change in brightness because trying to evaluate a picture being brighter with people's eyes is always subjective.
Here's additional test information.
Camera: Canon 20D
Lens: Canon 60mm Macro F2.8
Light Metering: Center Weighed
ISO: 400
F-stop: F/2.8
0 EV
Phone settings:
100% Brightness
Auto Brightness off
Auto adjust screen tone off
Model: SHV-E250L
The Test:
Before update:
Shutter speed 1/125s - 1/160s
After update:
Shutter speed 1/500s - 1/640s
If you know a bit of photography, you will see that it was a good test with all the right settings. It was done in a room with a very dim controlled light source. It would be impossible to do a test like this with a point & shoot.

Again, sounds like not everyone will get this boost, but some people have gotten it. Some people didn't. I just wanted some concrete numbers, hearing that I may notice this. I wanted more definite proof than say something like "yeah, it definitely kinda seems brighter."
So I did this right before and after the update. And I'm glad I did because even with these concrete numbers, people seem to not believe. I can only provide the facts for my device.
I have also noticed higher brightness. Now my eyes becomes tired faster than before

Dunno but for me lowest brigthness is higher than before. Was darker with 4.1.1 and with first leak 4.1.2
The Brightness is better in 4.1.2

If it would be 400% brighter then it would exceed at least 800 candela, making it brighter than even the most powerful LCD screens by quite the margin.
Sorry but somebody clearly DOESN'T understand light. Deducting brightness from a camera's shutter speed is failure at logic because they are not directly correlated. The camera can have a logarithmic response to light output in the shutter response.
The scientific method is to use a photometer and nothing else.
Let's try to figure this out.
Gsm arena puts Galaxy Note II at 402cm/2, they put iPhone 5 at 640cm/2.
So these are the possible scenarios:
1. Your Note II is now brighter than iPhone 5.
2. Before the update, your Note II model was dimmer than all others and now it's comparable.
3. You really have no idea what you are talking about.
So what we need is a comparison with iPhone and other Notes!
I myself just flashed a 4.1.2 Rom with matching kernel I did not notice any brightness difference.
I also studied the kernel source for your model "update 1", there were some differences in values for the display driver. But I'm not 100% what they do.

Rate this thread to express how well you can see the HTC U12+'s display outdoors. In case you've been playing Minecraft for 18 months straight, you might not known how to get outside anymore. Well, find the door and walk through it. A higher rating indicates that it has very high maximum brightness and thus fantastic outdoor visibility in direct sunlight.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
in a first review (german) the max brightness seems to be critical outside. (at 2:07)
I must say... it's maybe on video. The pre-production piece I saw has beautiful brightness on sun. But yea, It can be piece by piece. I think oficiall U12+ will be good even in sunny weather. Let's wait!

Hmm, he actually said that i looks pretty much like the U11+ and that it is a little bit to dark. This was also a problem with the HTC 10.
Probably HTC set a max brightness to save battery, i dont know. Could this be the case ?

No problem here htc10 plus the htc11+ are ok.

Anandtech estimated the display to be 600+ nits which is very bright and nothing like the U11+'s dim display.
But maybe they are wrong...

I don't know the U11 but my new U12+ is really great. I was very impressed today morning when I stepped out from home and got direct sunlight on the phone and it was still easy to read.
I wonder WTH that German was talking about... maybe he left on battery savings and didn't notice it? Happened to me the first morning, it greatly reduces maximum brightness.

i think that all reviews mention that brightness is higher than u11+, not much, but it is.
In a german review it states that the display has ~ 500-550 cd/m² (for reference, the Galaxy s9 has 740 cd/m², the U11 plus has about 400 cd/m² and the U11 about 530 cd/m²).

If you like the brightness of U11, U12+ is just slightly less bright in my comparison.
On my table side by side, U12+ indeed looks a slight bit dimmer.
On the street/direct sunlight it is doing a great job for my needs.

GSMArena repors that max brightness is about 400 nits... which is pretty low. Has anyone here who has the U12+compare to another phone they have outside and give their honest verdict?
Yesterday I can play few min with the U12+ and I will not buy it, even when the price drop under 500€, because the display is useless. I was indoor and it was already dark compare to any phone I know.
I think from 2016 to 2018 the baddest screen has the ZTE Axon 7 but even this was better than the U12+.
Say "cheese", then rate this thread to express how photos taken with the Asus ROG Phone come out. A higher rating indicates that photos offer rich color (without over-saturating), sharp detail (with all subjects in-focus), and appropriate exposure (with even lighting).

But in the super resolution option, the camera is using 49MP? or is it actually just upscaled resolution from the 12MP? I hope future update will bring 960fps slowmotion.

it appears that it takes multiple photos at different exposures kind of like an hdr image, but stitches them together in a way that produces an nMP x 4 resulting image, in this case 12MP x 4 = 48MP. Don't know where you got 49, is the sensor maybe like 12.2MP or something?
So anyway, its not a true 48/49MP image, but its not just an upscale either.
I'm sure updates will start rolling out in a few months, it will interesting to see what they can bring. I don't know much about asus phones, but I'ved owned a ton of asus products, and I'm sure the rog phone will at least get something cool :good:

Hopefully you can see the picture. And in the corner it shows 49M. I wish Oneplus 6/T would release their gaming mode for all Androids. It is much better done than the gaming mode asus has.

I ended up returning the rog phone. Oneplus 6 performs 250% better in online gaming.

Go for it, it's a great phone like the colored great sounding speakers, design symmetry which is rare to find now a days. There are a lot of pros going for this phone. I would say it's worth its price, could it have been better? sure!. But the same argument applies to every phone out there.

I ordered it. Should have it by next week. Very true, every phone has some sort of compromise. on my m7 is was the lack of a qwerty keyboard, and now it will be size/material/cases for me. Man I really love my current case haha
I'll post back when I get the phone and root/setup/etc

Currently using 1st gen RazerPhone and although the screens a bit dark I was mainly looking to get this phone for Netflix and Google/YouTube Premium. Now I know HDR isn't everything but how is video and sound on this phone for Netflix. With Amoled screen I feel it would be better and curious if any black borders on screen during YouTube or Netflix playback. While also going back to 1080 from 1440.

I'm currently using an m7 and the speakers are definitely blown after all these years (almost 5). I have an ROG phone in transit right now, was supposed to be delivered today but the canada post stike is messing with all the couriers right now so fedex hasn't shipped it yet. probably tomorrow. almost for sure. I will definitely let you know how everything is when I get it though! plus I plan to root it and find mods and see what else the phone is capable of.
In regards to black borders on youtube and netflix, since the phone is 18:9 it will definitely have them on netflix, since everything on there is pretty much all 16:9. Youtube has a mix now of multiple aspect ratios so it depends. I'm sure you could zoom in to crop it to 18:9 but I'd prefer the black borders over that personally. (maybe future phones could have ai that fills in the black with generated content? haha)

I remember TVs doing this and started to watch what I could of blizzcon 2018 where my friends TV was cutting alot of the screen off the picture off as menus where not right as per it's display from the laptop so made everyone wait will I fixed the TV. I agree I'm too use to 16:9 now and although I won't be selling my RazerPhone it will probably always be with me as a 2nd phone in my tech bag as you never know when it's needed plus being on a true unlimited data plan with not tethering limit its handy to just have spare if I need it or someone else needs it if traveling. I'll have to live with some bars as 18:9 is still new but did see this.
Any video letterboxing is moot as the actual size of the video doesn't change relative to a 16:9 screen, and actually the extended width can help for movies that are shot is a wider aspect.

yea exactly, since the video resolution doesn't actually change its just best to live with the bars. you still have to do it when watching 4:3 content on a 16:9 anyway so its kinda like the same thing.

Yeah I am currently going through some old Star Trek on Netflix and completely forgot about the 4:3 bars. I will probably drop my pre order once I hear back from Asus regarding their 4G supported bands and if they match my Carriers bands. I don't want a phone which doesn't work on 4G. Plus there's and LTE issues with non partner/devices bought from manufacture direct that don't have their branded image on them may not work. trying to get ThreeUK and Asus to confirm i wont have an issue. Plus I know i have 15 days to return it with Asus but want them to advise if i have to pay p&p to return it if it doesn't do what I need.

you can double check, I found that the rog supports 4 of 6 lte bands my carrier offers which means slightly restricted throughput/signal strength in certain areas of the city but still lte everywhere.
try googling your carrier + lte bands and see if you can't find some useful information. also google the bands that it does offer to see which ones are most important and you can use that to make a decision.

Its a nightmare buying any phone these days with everything done online. I honestly wish that some reviews would actually test and use the devices a bit more rather than the same boring un boxing videos plastered up on YouTube and only a handful of them are actually technical. The ones that are any good are those who start to use the devices as a daily driver for a while.

Just got my phone, I'll test and report back after work. Still need to get a new sim though.
EDIT: so I've been playing around with the phone. I don't have a usb type c connector or a micro sim so theres only so much I've done with it so far but it is impressive. Also for some context, screen on max brightness, rgb logo on colour cycle, and 90hz refresh has used about 25% after 3hrs screen on time. That would have totally drained my old phone
also the wifi is fast on my 5ghz band, 9ms ping and maxed out dl and ul
I did the system update and it made the screen dimmer :/ hope I can fix that after rooting

My camera is Not sharp. It looks Like autofocus doesnt work.
The LG V60 ThinQ has a crazy crisp display. Just kidding, this is automated text so who knows if this screen is any good. So, you be the judge! A higher rating indicates that it's extremely sharp and clear, and that you cannot see pixels with your naked eye.

Very clear. The resolution is lower than my V30, I think, but it's not noticeable to me.
I honestly don't notice the lower resolution and because of that always had my previous phones set to 1080p to save battery.
Auto brightness has been a problem though, in low light the screen throttles back to 1% far too aggressively and 1% is too dim even in a pitch black room.

The larger screen size and lower resolution combine for a noticeably lower DPI count, but I happen to think that higher (than 1080p) resolutions on (relatively) smaller phone displays are mostly a waste of battery life.
YMMV, but in my experience, there comes a point where the human eye can only resolve so much and the bump in the resolution of small screen displays just becomes overkill. I'll take battery life over resolution and even refresh rate any day, though I imagine higher resolution displays with higher refresh rates will only become more efficient over time, and I'll likely change my tune eventually.
I went from the V30+ to the V60 at the beginning of this month, and I feel like the new phone is a substantial upgrade over the older one in just about all categories that matter. And that's even considering that the former was rooted and the latter can't be!
The display is crisp enough, though clearly not cutting edge. Colors look at least as good as those of the V30. Viewing angles are fantastic without any noticeable (to me) color shift. It's probably the best we could have expected knowing that the display is relatively modest compared to this phone's 20202 (and some 2019) peers. And if you're fine with that, this shouldn't stop you from considering the phone. If, however, you DO want higher resolutions and higher refresh rates, you already know this phone's not for you and that you've got multiple options.

I'm seeing very drastic color shift when viewing at about 45°, more noticeable on white screens. It's a greenish yellowish shift.
Otherwise I agree with the rest of your post. 1080p is plenty resolution and I'm fine with 60Hz refresh.

Are there display variances across production runs, or something? Because I can't seem to reproduce this fault.
I'm not TERRIBLY sensitive to such things, but from what you say, it sounds like it should be blatantly obvious to the eyes.
And I don't suffer from any kind of color blindness that could possibly impact me.

Huh. How did you get a plain white background to show up like that? (I suppose I can Google one up).
I'd like to test my phone out and see if I can get similar results.
It's a little hard to see in a YT video, but I definitely noticed SOME shift on your screen that I don't think I've ever seen on mine.
I imagine the effect is even more noticeable in real life, with the phone right in front of you.

It's a photo editing app, but you can start a new image from scratch and select a background color. I set it to pure white, then zoomed in on it to fill the screen. It's definitely easier to see in person. I tried using by wife's Note 9 for the video, but I couldn't select a better refresh rate on it to prevent the banding.

I tried it out, and while I did notice a dimming or darkening of the white background at extreme tilts, I figure that's normal.
Doesn't quite look like what your YT video shows, but I'm not sure if that's down to the difference between watching a YT video of something and watching it yourself directly.
I've had the V30 and now this and I'm as happy with the screen on this one as I was with the V30. I couldn't care about the refresh rate. It's not like I'm watching a 60" screen. Overall it's a very good screen.

I pissed that it's 1080P, however, people who say a 90+ refresh rate is noticeable is just experiencing placebo.
The human eye will never notice that.

I've had higher resolution screens, and I can tell no difference between them and 1080p. Even 720p is hard to notice a difference.
When it comes to refresh rates, most people see a noticeable difference between 60Hz and 90Hz. My last phone was selectable between those two and 120Hz, and I couldn't tell a difference between 90Hz and 120Hz.
I can see the difference in resolution between the V30 and V60, it's just that 1080p on a phone doesn't bother me.
It falls in my "good enough" range. These aren't 55+ inch television displays, after all.
I also can definitely see the difference between a 60 Hz refresh rate vs a 90 Hz or 120 Hz refresh display.
my problem is with notifications in the top pull down... its virtually useless in landscape mode...
