Can someone post a video comparison of coreplayer on HD2 another WindowsMobile phone?

Hello, I know that there are hundreds of you who have coreplayer, an HD2, and another Windows Mobile phone.
Can some of you post videos of coreplaying on action on both the HD2 and another phone?
I would prefer a simultaneous comparison on the same footage being played roughly at the same time (volume can be muted).
I would prefer a comparison between a 4 inch screen to a 3 inch screen.
Please please please post a video! It would be awesome and I need it to make a certain life changing decision!!!!!

What's the point? Coreplayer works better on the hd2 than on any other (except maybe that couple of phones for which it has hardware acceleration) thanks to the 1ghz cpu. Not much more to say...

I want to see clearness and screen size, and to see if the size is actually worth it. Just saying that it is clear and big does no justice. Video representation is the best method to show you how big an object in a film really is.
People on the Xperia X1 board used to say that the screen was very big, and many enjoyed the video experience but there was no actual comparison to prove to naive people like me that 3 inches is utterly useless.

I agree with kilrah... works better than it did on my nokia e71 and my htc touch pro2
video comparison is moot, its the same program with the same features, on a faster phone with a bigger screen

What do you like and hate about your E71?
And I still want to see a video comparison, nonetheless.

Tell me why the 3 inch screen is useless?? I have crystal clear images and video on my x1... is a great little phone for vid... however the hd2 is much better in terms of size... same clarity and quality, just bigger...

So you hope to see a difference in playing a video on 2 phones with different screen sizes on a video of both? Good luck.
I could film my 37 inch tv and send you the video, it wouldn't look different to you than if I did it with my 2.8 inch phone.
Go in a store that has phones on display, and compare yourself in real life. It's the only way to get an accurate idea.

They don't have HD2 on display in America. Look at where I am from.
I got to compare my brother's HTC Touch Pro2 to my Xperia X1 and learned that even 3.5 inch screen is not good enough for me to watch a movie on the plane. And guess what, damn it, before I get to compare the damn devices, I was 100% certain that the 3.5 inch display would be enough for me.
Nope.
Even my brother said that the screen size for video playback was awesome. Nope, not for me. But I do enjoy watching movies on my laptop, I just want to know what the minimal size for me is.
So.......I wish I could have the damn HD2 so that I can compare to the Touch Pro2 and Xperia...but no, it's not in America....yet...and besides that, damn it, once the HD2 hit T-mobile stores, there probably won't be any video to compare to other phones, and if there is, the videos are different.
I am looking for details in film, because when I watch a movie on the go, I still enjoy the little details in the background. The little easter eggs, and stuff that you are meant to see but not on the first screening. A big but minimalistic screen is vital for such details.
If I see a basketball of the same color and shade on the basketball court because it is from the same film, I can compare that in-motion footage on two different screens. I can see if a 4.1 inch is perfect for such details, because I already have experience with 3.5 inch screens with actual video playback. And with the implication that I have experienced testing 3.5 inch screen, you should know that if I see two same objects, I can roughly imagine myself seeing the actual visual representation in real life. I am not just talking about comparing a windows icon to an apple shortcut icon. Nope, if I compare a windows icon, I must compare it to the same windows icon.
If I compare films I must compare the same films at roughly the same moment.
This is a true comparison of visuals.
And your TV argument is pointless; the contrast in size is way too apparent. And guess what, I can test that on my own.
I can no longer just listen to what people have to say about the devices, for example--my brother or the person who said that 3 inch screens are awesome. A truly unbiased review does not praise an object, but it does compare it to relevant ones.
The HD2 screen is so big that the video experience is awesome, because this fits in the reviewer's criteria. If the review simply states that the HD2 screen is bigger than the Xperia or Touch Pro2, there is no preference in the criteria. But if one gives a careful visual comparison, he can let the beholder make the decision (not the reviewer himself).
I feel like some of you are implying that I am stupid, but I wish you could understand my reasons.

And I wish you would understand why even if someone shot a video of 2 devices next to each other it wouldn't do any justice to how it actually looks like.

A compressed youtube video of the 2 will just show some half blurry screens on which you can't see anything of the little details that interest you, even if they were actually there. All you'll be able to see is that the HD2's screen is bigger, but you already know that.
Apparently we can say all we can, you seem to not have the same expectations than most of us if you were disappointed following the advice you were given with the X1. So even if we say that properly encoded video looks extremely crisp on the HD2 you'll have to see for yourself on the real thing. So wait until it hits the store, take your current phone with a short clip, go there, grab an HD2 on display, send the clip to the HD2 via bluetooth, with a coreplayer cab if needed, and do your test... that's what I did with my usual programs, spent 2 hours at the store doing what I usually do on my phone on the HD2 before buying it

The "modded video" in the first post is a good example of good quality video for the hd2, best played with the built-in player.

[Q] Poor Video Quality?

I just received my Google Nexus 10 yesterday. After reading all the great reviews about the video quality I must admit I was shocked how poor it was. Don't get me wrong, it isn't awful by any stretch. The detail is certainly there and there is so much detail it might actually be detriment to the product because I can pick up compression artifacts and pixelization I didn't even know was there on some of my videos. However, this really leads in to what I think the source of the problem is on this device, that is, the black level. The first video I took a look at was Ice Age since it came with the N10. If black level is off on animations they can look washed out and it certainly did in this case. My projector on a 100" screen could actually reflect a better image in my opinion. Moving over to other videos like a 1080p MKV of Battleship displayed some improvement, but the poor black levels were still there. Oh, and I should mention this was with using MX Player.
So, are others seeing something similar? Again, I'm not trying to really downplay the image entirely because the detail is certainly there, but again, I'm disappointed by the black level. Is there possibly a way to adjust it that I'm not aware of? All I can seemingly find is Brightness and that doesn't do enough. Perhaps a gamma control would help? Any guidance from others is appreciated.

Thanks for the welcome. Did people say the same about you when you had 2 posts? Trust me, your accusation is utterly ridiculous. This is simply my first Android device and this was my initial impression. I hoped that there might be some kind of workaround or fix so I simply did a Google search for a Nexus 10 forum and wound up here. As I allued to in my initial post there are plenty of things I like about the device and black level might not be a deal killer, but if there was a way to resolve it, why not pursue it?

Only 245 posts and a member since February of this year? You must clearly have very little to contribute anywhere since you don't have at least a 1k post count or year+ membership (sarcasm btw; post count and join dates means absolutely nothing in determining a person's status lol)
I believe a few others have mentioned black levels not being optimal on the N10. I myself don't really see it as a problem, but then again I rarely watch videos. I believe Contrast itself might be a better option to modify over Brightness, but I'm pretty sure Contrast isn't adjustable currently.
Possibly when Kernel development matures enough, we may be able to modify screen settings, but I don't think we're there quite yet. Maybe some video players might have an option for adjustments?

Those frequenting here have varying social skills. Be tolerant.
Suggest posting some pics of screen's black level, alongside another device used as a baseline. A thousand words and all that.
Also suggest searching Play store for "display settings" and try out the various widget/apps available.

That's seriously put me off buying this tablet now.
A poor black level can ruin video quality. I know this because my laptops black level is shocking bad, picture below.
Now I might either get a Note 10.1 or wait for something with a high res screen and a good black level.

Anyway back to the original question, this device has a LCD screen, and like most LCD TVs, the black is not as black as you'd like or you would see on a PlasmaTV or Amoled screen.
If black levels are highly important to you, i'm sorry to say you bought the wrong device.

Ok, so I took a previous poster's advice and got a hold of an iPad3 with Retina Display and compared it against the N10. The difference was not as significant as I thought it might be. Ultimately, I didn't think either producing razor sharp images with inky blacks and that is because they don't my own HDTV's (LED) in my home along with my home theater projector crush both devices. Why? Well, first, I wasn't aware that the contrast ratio was so poor on all the tablet devices. Most of my other products have something like a 50,000:1 contrast ratio whereas the tablets are around 1000:1, a very big difference. Also, I'm accustomed to watching BluRays on those displays. BluRay quality just doesn't seem to exist on these tablets right now. So was I expecting too much from the N10? Yes.
Spending some time with both devices side-by-side allowed me to sort of critique both on my own terms and decide which one I like best. I'm probably an atypical user so my opinions here are my own and I don't expect others to find the same items valuable.
1. Display - the iPad wins here, but not by as much as I might have thought. Whites are more warm and not as bright on the N10 when compared to the iPad. Blacks are also better on the iPad, but I expected it to be a dramatic difference. It wasn't. I've included some images to this post that will help you see the difference a bit more. There are some images where the difference looks very pronounced, but that is the digital camera really exposing the faults of the N10 and making them appear more significant. I wouldn't say that is the case in reality. Also, something you'll notice from the images is the light leak. It is there on the N10, but not on the iPad. Too bad Samsung couldn't have done a better job here. It would have made it appear as a more quality product.
2. Form Factor - I find the form factor of the iPad better than the N10. I like to use portrait mode more often than most I think and the iPad gives you more space to work from horizontally when doing so. This makes web browsing much easier and I actually feel more cramped using the N10 to browse via landscape. I would MUCH prefer the N10 to have the iPad's shape.
3. Weight - I would have never thought 50 grams or whatever it is would make a difference, but to me it does and the N10 is a clear winner here. After handling both devices for some time I simply enjoyed holding the N10 more. The lightness made for a more enjoyable experience.
4. Rubber Backing - When I saw on this on the N10 I thought it was sort of a gimmick, but I really like it. Again, it just seems to feel more comfortable holding it.
5. Heat - I have no idea why, but the back of the iPad got pretty hot while using it. The N10 had some slight warmth, but ever since I've used it it has stayed relatively cool.
6. Speakers - The N10 really crushes the iPad here. The front two speakers are awesome and can push out good volume. Going back to the iPad with its rear mono speaker almost feels silly in comparison.
7. Web Browsing - The winner here is the iPad. Pages came up more quickly, they are easier to scroll through (only slightly), and are displayed better. In portrait mode the clear winner is the iPad since you have more horizontal space to work with, something I like.
8. Off-axis viewing - Not that you ever really need this because tablets are really made for a one person audience to be looking at the device head-on, but I did notice it. For whatever reason the iPad had a better image once you move off-axis from the device. The N10 was washed out more quickly as you moved off-axis.
9. Bugs - Oh man, Jelly Bean has them. I have essentially the base image on the N10 and I've already seen the battery information incorrect (stuck), freezes, my folders just disappearing after the device becoming frozen, and some other very quirky things. The iPad in comparison was stable. The iPad just feels a bit like driving a Lexus. It doesn't really do much to excite you, but it does what it is designed to do and does it well. The N10 is probably more like a BMW X6. Is it a sports car or an SUV? No one really knows. It does some things that are really neat, but in other categories it sort of falls apart. Just my own silly analogy.
So which will I keep. Based on all the criteria above I would say it is very close and probably a tie in my mind, but I'm leaning toward the N10. I'm not sure why, but I struggle a great deal with going to a closed environment like the iPad is. It feels boring to me and I just think I might enjoy tinkering with the N10 more. If I give it more thought I might change my mind, but for the moment this is where my head is.
I hope all this might help someone. If anyone has any questions about the comparison or the images please feel free to ask.

A lot people seem to crank the brightness even when they don't need it. The N10 with the back light turned up definitely has poor black levels but it's actually pretty decent when below 40%(more comfortable to view also)

I agree. I'm totally unimpressed by the video quality of Nexus 10. Maybe I'm doing something wrong here, but my older Galaxy Tab 2 P3100 had much better video quality than this. The colors are totally messed up and the it just seems bland and boring.
Frankly, I don't think this is an iPad killer in anyway, and I'm not an apple fanboy either. I had to download apps just to get the Volume to a reasonable level eventhough it has stereo. Wow, the ipad claims much less but delivers more, Nexus 10 claims tall but falls short.
Thinking about getting back the iPad 4 if the Nexus doesn't grow on me. Sorry, Nexus. Android has failed you :crying:

The 50,000:1 contrast ratio is actually dynamic contrast ratio. How dark the screen is at it's lowest brightness and how bright the screen is at it's highest brightness. It's really just a marketing gimmick.
The real static contrast ratio could be anywhere between 1000-5000:1. Not a huge difference at all.

Looking at your screenshots I can definitely say you have the brightness set waaaayyy to high on the Nexus 10. Turn it down and the picture will be drastically better.

And for the other little problems you have to wait some time. Most of them will be gone with the first good custom roms/kernels. The device is still brand new.

I tried both the Transformers and Ice Age films streaming from google play, and I thought the video was pretty poor. Wifi signal was strong.

Video quality from all the streaming services I've used on Android have relatively poor quality. If you are attempting to benchmark the device's fidelity then I suggest making a high bit rate rip of a Blu-Ray
The high bit rate 1080p and 1440p videos I've seen look pretty great, but I agree videos from streaming services look pretty awful in terms of both blurriness and contrast.
Also, the hardware decoders like most devices do not have as high of picture quality as some software decoder. For instance, for the same video the hw decoder will look softer than the sw decoder in MX Player

4K screen - Who really has noticed a difference?

I came from a Samsung s6 Edge+ and it had a pretty good screen with 518ppi
Sony made a big deal about the 4k screen. But do you really notice it?
When i first got it a few days ago. I was not sure what to expect. Would i notice it or not, because it's not always in 4k.
Theres a lot of people out there saying it's a gimmick and you wont notice it because your eyes cannot see the pixels to notice it.
Well it was the first thing i noticed. The fact i couldn't see any sharp edges on the text. Everything was so smooth and fluid. Even though the pixels on my edge+ are small, and i put it side to side and although its minimal, but i could notice the difference.
I had a friend show me a video on youtube today, it was a good quality video ect. Then i showed him a video about our topic, not talking about the phone. As soon as he watched the video, he right away commented on the screen how it looked so realistic and smooth.
So In my opinion, Yes i can see the difference with a 4k screen. It's not a gimmick. What are your thoughts?

Sure I can see it, problem is that when you've seen the 4k content you can actually notice going back to full hd...

It's the text on the screen most especially ?, it was soooo clean I had to double check on my ex (the OP3T). The difference can clearly been seen. It's a very good display

The display is amazing

I used ADB to set the display to be 4K all the time. Yes there is a difference, but unless you use really small display scaling/text, it won't be very evident. Still, this is probably one of the sharpest displays available to consumers in the world. You will never see a jagged edge.

You need to smoke something and you'll see the difference haha. It's more or a gimmick and I wished there was more 4k content. But the experience is new and strange. I feel the urge to stick my eyes on the screen to see more details, or use a magnifying glass. But for recreational purposes, it's a cool thing. A neat trick.

Yeah there's a difference. My way of explaining it, the experience is surreal. You don't really notice it, but your brain kinda do. I don't know how to really explain this. When I enabled the 4K using adb, I can see that the display is so great, like a printed paper as per said by Erica Griffin - she's very nitpicky when it comes to display. So when this display got an approval from her, it's a big thing.

What I can tell is my head hurts after watching it lol. Now I really hope I can easily move to Peru! Your brain got confused, it knows that what you see on the screen is not real, but the display image reproduction is so damn real that it's like looking through a window rather than a display. When your little friendly brain got confused, you'll get headache. Need some time to getbused to it. So for me, yes it is noticable.
I actually prefer this over Samsung's OLED display. This display kinda produce more colour, it's vibrant but still kind on the eyes. My eyes hurt and get tired after watching something on the S8. With a display this good, I don't even notice this phone's large bezels!

I don't know guys, I'm still on the fence and can't really tell. Maybe it's my eyes lol, or my super high expectations.

I tried watching Peru 8k in YouTube but it kept buffering. Bummer. It looked amazing but experience limited by size of screen.

Lol I saw this video some time ago and was wowed[emoji23]....
Amazon prime video finally showed a video in 4k HDR and I was left in Wonderland. I could tell the difference in quality right away because some parts other video were in full HD before snapping into 4k mode.
After the adb switch to 4k, the most noticeable difference is how everything's SUPER CLEAR. It's the exact same thing that happened to me when I switched my pc monitor from FHD TO 4K. The text and other elements on the screen are soo defined.
I left it in 4k because it had very little to no effect on my battery and performance. I rather enjoy the full 4k display [emoji16]

Lol I'm having the same issue my house has a slow connection so what I did is I installed TubeMate from its G+ page (to avoid malware etc.) and downloaded the video in native 4K. Took some while but now I have my own collection of 4K videos to show off to friends and family.

I'm not able to install some apk files, tubemate included. Some apk's work fine though. Did you face this issue.

Actually only one time when I tried to install Alan Walker Theme.apk. I ended up installing using a pc then transfered the .apk into my phone which worked.

I might misunderstood you but here's how to do it.
You just install the .apk on your pc, then transfer the .apk file into your phone's storage once you connect these two devices using usb cable and allow file transfer. Be cautious since some people tinker with the app and change it into malware so install TubeMate .apk only from it's Google+ page. Next, find the file in your phone and execute it within your phone. Make sure beforehand you go to Settings>Lock Screen & Security to toggle on Unknown Sources.

Did you watch in 8K or 4K? cause I think HDR kicks in 8K am I right? I downloaded both 8K and 4K and I can see the HDR difference in monitor! I am gonna transfer both files and see.
Need more 4K HDR stuff

Honestly I'm not sure how exactly HDR in this phone works ie whether it is turned on all the time or only kicks in if the content supported it. I'm keen towards the second one.
I use professional mode (sRGB) and the colour reproduction is just realistic and outstanding I'm in love with everything I see now ? and HDR is the best under-appreciated thing ever.
I can only watch in 4K since I'm using the phone to both download and watch. Prior to downloading, the max resolution I am allowed to choose is only 4K. I think if you transfer the 8K video into your phone it will be played in only 4K, but the quality is still top-notch.
What I think is worth mentioning here is I realised after enabling 4K all the time, 480p video on YouTube looks sharper and clearer compared to when 4K is disabled.

Reviews of the OnePlus 5 from Real Users

My question is, can I get some real reviews from real users, not the YouTube paid reviews. Some people should have it for about 2 weeks now, and I wanna hear what you think. I've read where the camera is horrible, and others say it's OK. I'm buying the phone this Thursday, or next Thursday and am looking for some honesty.
How I typically use my phone is all day, everyday. It's a bit of an ADD thing where I have to keep myself busy. Games, XDA, more games. I play VainGlory a lot, and it's pretty heavy on my phone. Does anyone else play this, and how does the 5 perform while playing?
Can anyone post some pictures they took of scenery, buildings, etc... I'll post some of mine taken from my Nexus 6P, edited in Snapseed. The camera is a big point for me.

I currently own OP5 and previous phone was Pixel XL.
If a camera is a big point for you, there are better options for sure such as Pixel , iPhone and U11.
If gaming, then this phone will perform way better than 6p or any other phone. 835 CPU, GPU and 8 RAM means solid performance.
Camera is great in good lighting; mediocre in low light. 1080 Video good and 4K video average.
Battery life for me has been incredible! Fast charging is awesome too.
OP5 is a fantastic phone and I would recommend to anyone. I say this even though I plan on returning OP5 and going back to my Pixel XL. Why? Camera and smoother overall experience in Pixel. OP5 is faster for sure.

I don't take too many videos, but I definitely like having the option of taking a good one. Gaming is a big selling point for me as well. As for the camera... I'm kind of hoping that some sort of fix is released in an update for whatever the issue is.
It definitely helps though. The price is also a factor, as I'm thinking I'll be able to sell my 6p for 325-350, with all the cases I have and the pretty awesome condition I've kept it in.
I've also haven't had a *new* phone in years. Last one I had was S6 Edge and I ended up having to give it to my Now Ex-girlfriends mom since it was on her plan and we broke up. I had it for like 3 weeks. So, a new phone under warranty would be pretty sweet to have.
Im going to buy it, I made up my mind. If anything, and the camera is way worse than my 6p and they don't release an update I can just sell it, right? Yup.

I'll break up a short review into a few sections.
Design - 9/10
I really like the build quality. The phone looks very similar to a certain device, but I don't mind this. The matte black color looks great and the device, while a bit thin, is the perfect weight (although I am going to buy a case as soon as they become available.) Although I do wish the camera was in the center because when you lay the device down, the protruding camera lens is what your device lays on and makes the device not lay completely flat. The good news is the camera lends is made out of sapphire so durability is there.
Performance | Daily Tasks - 9/10
I have read all about the "Jello effect." This does appear on my device, but it's very minimal and I don't see it as a problem. I did recently watch a video where it was a lot worse in that video. People on social media tend to be hive-mind associated so a lot of negativity tends to spread like wildfire while the positive items are left out of the spotlight. I think the device is extremely snappy and I have noticed the phone doesn't even get warm while playing Pokemon Go for long spurts at a time. No sluggish performance at all.
Wireless Connectivity | WiFi | 4G - 8/10
Cellular Performance
This aspect is generally very important to me. When I compare it to my brother's GS8 on T-Mobile US, we both have a consistent experience in strong signal areas. The OP5 doesn't support 4x4 MIMO on the 4G/LTE side, but it does support 256QAM and 3xCA which is more than enough for the typical power user. Overall, my brother's S8 tends to get slightly less than 10% more speeds on LTE than I do (for comparison, I hit 115Mbps in a spot whereas the GS8 hit 125Mbps.) However, I will note that edge-of-signal, the S8 does win outright. In a few areas where LTE signal is weak (sub -120dBm RSRP), the OnePlus 5 will tend to drop to HSPA or even Edge whereas the S8 will maintain a usable signal. In other words, VoLTE'ers, you may experience more dropped calls when venturing about in weak LTE areas.
WiFi Performance
The OP5 supports 2x2 MIMO and wireless AC so 5Ghz networks is vastly improved over the OP3/OP3T in regards to WiFi coverage/performance. In comparison, I can pull up to 540mbps in a corner of my house on the OP5 whereas the OP3T will only be able to pull 32mbps on the same network. Oneplus has really went above and beyond in terms of WiFi antenna design and has consistently matched the GS8's WiFi performance (Note: I do not have Gigabit internet so I wan't able to test higher-end speeds.)
Battery - 9/10
I am coming from a Le Pro3 (which is one of the best devices for battery), and I'm not too concerned with what I'm getting on the OP5. I am consistently getting through the typical work-day with around 30-40% juice left after a few hours of screen time. If I need a quick charge, Dash charging is there. I will mention that I wish Dash Charging wasn't so proprietary. Because almost all of my current chargers are Qualcomm QC which aren't compatible with the Oneplus. Although it'll still charge the device, just not rapidly like Dash would.
Camera - 7/10
I am not a photographer by any means and a good camera doesn't necessarily sell me on a device by itself. I will say though that while the pictures are not as good as what you'd get on the GS8, they are pretty good shots and I honestly can't see people looking at your facebook pictures and thinking "wow, whatever camera took this picture sucks." I am quite content with the camera because it is better than a mid-range device, but worse than a flagship.
Software/Customization - 10/10
This is the main reason I went with the OnePlus device. Oxygen OS is so smooth and AOSP-like. The nearly bloatless experience and ability to change the theme/accents of your device are amazing. That, and I know the community will be behind some massive developments for this device so I can satisfy my flashing urges as they come up. It all just works.
Sound/Speakers - 9/10
I would have preferred stereo speaker setup, instead of mono speaker. Still, I would say I have been very impressed with the mono speaker on the bottom with the amount of quality and loud sounds that come from it. Music in the car over Bluetooth/Android Auto also works great and is very clear sounding. I actually flashed the Viper/Arise sound mod and disabled it shortly after because stock sounds that good (I don't play around with the Viper/Arise settings too much, so maybe I can improve it but to me there's not much left to be desired.) Voice Calls, people are loud and clear.
Overall, I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend the product to a friend!

Man the phones on point. I went hard on my op5 & have yet to hit 34 °c I play the phone for long stretches so not worrying about my phone getting to hot is my favorite upgrade so far. The battery for sure last longer than the 3t but the 3t charges about 10 minutes faster

My phone was delivered on the Friday after the key note and have used this as my daily driver. My most recent phone was the Samsung s7e, but gave to my wife as I found it too slow (and I really wanted to try a one plus 5).
Initial impressions are similar to the (honest) reviews:
1. Damn this thing is quick
2. Damn the fingerprint reader is quick
3. Damn that charges quick
3. Oh, the camera isn't quite as good as it was hyped
I think it looks "fine" (i.e I couldn't care less what it looks like).
Battery life has been good, at least comparable to a 6 month old SGS7e (I bought that second hand) but not as good as my old Sony z3c.
The camera is good, don't get me wrong, and it can take better shots than the Samsung, but it's not as consistent. Low light isn't as good (but again, the Samsung is a very high bar). I'd say that 90% of my photos come out fine first time. It's very quick to take photos though (if Oneplus wanted a "speed" theme to come through in this device then they certainly succeeded)
1080p video is very good. Surprisingly good. Ok 4k recording lacks stabilisation, but hey, do people bother to record in this resolution? (I suppose that do, but I sure as hell don't). They've also said that 4k EIS will come in an update.
The screen is very good. Having had the S6 and S7e, I've experienced excellent screens (i.e. high resolution) but really don't see the point for 99% of the time (I played with vr for a couple of days about 12 months ago so I really do mean 99%). 1080p is absolutely great for a 5.5" screen.
My only complaints have been:
1. Jelly (yes, either I'm susceptible to seeing it or my device has it)
2. Camera not as good as hyped
3. Some vague software oddities which I'm sure will be sorted (notification issues with eBay)

The best thing about OnePlus 5 is support from this community. I ordered on the conference day and there was TWRP and root solution available before this phone even arrived to my home. Another great thing is overall performance, clean OS, no bloatware.
Time for bad things. It is always bad sign when the company behind any device lies to you. They lie about camera peformance, they lie about screen issues... I wonder what will be next. Had I waited few days and seen how OnePlus acts, I would not buy it again.
Still I have it, so let's talk about user experience. I am switching to OnePlus 5 from my 4 years old OPPO Find 7, so this is my point of reference.
Form factor. The phone is a bit slippery and uncomfortable to grip. It has some sort of additional sharp line on the edge, and I ordered a cover to make it feel better. Other than this, it looks great and sexy. Shame it is not original design, but it is still good if you don't care about such things (I personally don't).
Screen. Screen has great colors and real blacks. It doesn't have the best resolution but just looks better than 2K IPS of Find 7. Use some dark wallpaper and you will be in heaven. At the same time you have this jelly effect and before I got used to it, it felt wrong. If you are motion sick, you should stay away from this phone.
Camera. The only good thing I can say about camera is its tonal range. You get all the colors instead of washed whites when you shot something with high contrast. At the same time I have seen way more details on the Find 7, which is four years old than on the OnePlus 5. Maybe it is poor compression of images, maybe it is some de-noising algorithm... anyway when you zoom in, you will see only blur in the image. Also, the telephoto camera is almost never used indoors (easy to check - cover one lens and see yourself which lens your phone is using) and used outdoor only when light is perfect (hello sun). When you click this magical 2x zoom in your camera app you will newer know whether you are doing software zoom loosing even more details or actual optical zoom... which even in best case is software-processed.
OS. Is great. Clean, fast android. Easy to root, easy to mod.
Battery life. Mixed. It will give you a full day, easily, but also drops significantly when you don't use the phone. Still, you have the DaSH/VOOC fast charge, so that's not a big issue.
Summary - this phone is great when you love messing with your phone, you are going to try custom rooms, you need root and great community support. It should be your choice if you with to have hardware that has enough power to stay with you for years. If you are looking for "clearer photos" look somewhere else. This is outward lie, and camera peformance is just average. It is also not a device for you if you must have the latest technology in hand or a very decent screen.
It is also not a steal anymore. You pay a bit less than premium range and you get a bit less then premium quality. Consider what you are looking for, and if your boxes are matched go for it.

I've never played that game but I play some games (the Idolmaster rhythm games) that are pretty heavy and made my Nexus 6 very sad. They run very smoothly at highest settings on the 1+5, and thanks to the massive amounts of ram, I can switch between several games with no problem.
The one complaint I have is the placement of the speaker. If you are playing a game landscape orientation your hand will keep covering it. Big problem when playing rhythm games.

Those are more than acceptable pics for a smartphone. I don't expect DSLR quality, and it looks like it could be an improvement over my 6p.

Haha, true that. I might say that camera performance means a lot to me. But I have no actual "training" in being a photographer, or what is supposed to look like what. I just like taking pictures for myself, and I throw em up on Instagram. I use a lot of my pictures for wallpapers for my phone, mainly.
If anything, the better the phone is performing at games the better it would be for me, and this sounds like a beast. I'll be doubling my ram, and storage capacity so I'll be more than happy at that fact alone. Haha
Edit: I hope this post stays near the top for anyone on the fence about the purchase. I was just thinking about you're only hearing so many users complaining about the phone, but how many other users out there that are completely satisfied.

I just hate how it deals with low-light and with colour, in particular in the details, which are just awful. I come from three and an half years with the Nexus 5, which had OIS and an awesome HDR. In this phone, HDR pics are way too noisy and sometimes colours look much worse than non-HDR photos.

Nice pics

Here are some pics I couldn't update earlier. You can see how bad the camera works in some conditions (like in the tree in two of the photos, which looks very unreal). Also in low light HDR is too noisy and I had to take twice the photo in the square and still I couldn't get a sharp image. Also you can see some artifacts in the two road pics. This is what convinced me to send this phone back, I take lots of pics and my old Nexus 5 worked better in all of these conditions

I figured I would take one picture and edit in Snapseed to see how that pans out. I'm posting both the original and edited.
Honestly, I don't think I'll be upset at all for the quality. I like it. The pro mode will be fun as well to play with,

Had a great time in NY with it this past weekend.

I have to say that I love the phone. I have an s8+ too and I actually don't miss it at all. I bought the LG G6 last month an lasted 1 day with it and some would, well do argue that it's a better phone than the s8.
What I like: The performance. That phone is fast in every aspect. The best example I can give is the setup. I have 161 apps. It took 2 and a half hours to download on the s8+. Guess how fast it was on the OP5 25 minutes. I've never see that before.
The screen is fine, the camera is no prize winner but no slouch either. I'm sure SW updates can make it better. The sound is good.
What I don't like: So far it's that damn screen that flips to landscape for no reason.
I didn't think of returning the phone until I saw the thread with all the people whining about the most trivial things.
The way I see it is. If the camera really matters to you. S8+, Pixel XL, U11. If not, by all means. You cannot go wrong with this. 8gb of ram 128 GB of storage and this community. Your kids can use it 6 years from now it will still be a top contender.

1 for running the commands on my Z5 compact (broken screen thats why I bought the xz premium)
the other to see if youtube supports the screen.
now the screen only supprted QHD at 640 PPI after trying to run it at 4k
evidently youtube supported 2k resolution on a 720p screen.
so Sony could be yanking us about their "4k" screen when you can clearly see 1080p phones beating it! heck even this z5c on 720p beats it and on 2k its far destructive over the XZ premium!!
talk about 4gb of ram? the z5c has 2!!! try to reset both phones and see the difference in scroll speed in home screen and in app drawer!! z5c is flawless! fully bright as hell supports 2k and it looks alot better.
so maybe thats why we see pixel grids on the xz premium and thats why its not as sharp as other devices (NOTICEABLY LESS SHARP!!! even on "4k" mod pfft as if it has the right to be called a 4k device)
so disappointing... i paid for 4k screen got a virtual 4k... 806 ppi? guess again! its native ppi is 408 even after 4k mod it says DPI 806 but clearly shows PPI (X) 400+ (forgot the exact number) and PPI (Y) 400+.
I know even on 1080p the xz premium supports 4k videos but what proves us that sony actually added lines to the app to support NATIVE 4K and not VIRTUAL?
screen is supposedly supportive of 120hz? lol even on 60hz its not even showing real 60hz the Z5C is far smoother with worse processor and lower ram performs better, worse screen looks a lot sharper, worse camera (in most cases it is but it is sharper though).
So in conclusion, this is not a 4k screen (i could be wrong or missing something) even if it is 4k, to me, i dont even see it comparable to 1080p... Im sorry but lets not let the lies blind fold us..
To add to that sony phones are rootless, they are but whats the point of rooting if youre gonna lose your camera functionality? I say if you root a phone and it becomes worse, to me its automatically rootless

I am grown dude i said my opinion i didnt even swear its not i just said concidering the fact that the emulator can make a 720p screen run at 2k how can we make sure that this 4k is really 4k? Native and not virtual... You say using the right apps its really 4k how can u be so sure? I ran youtube vid on 2k on a 720p screen emulated to 2k so how does that prove anything?
Btw im not mad at the developers in here the other poat stated the sick comunity of unthankful people who are accusing them of not doing a good job, im not mad at them im mad at sony. If i was right with you people would you look me in a straight face telling me you really think this 4k screen looks sharper than the z3? (1080p) dont answer before you check, cuz i did, on 4k enabled, compare it to the z3 and it looks less sharp, and the z3 has whiter whites so i paid for this device cuz of how sony advertised its screen being the best since its 4k but it actually isnt as good so maybe youre mad at me for hating but i paid loads for this concidering what in can deliver according to the advertisements of sony but in actuality it doesnt show it...

No im not a bit off over the devs they are doing a great job im not hating on any dev nor their work cuz this device is a pain in the behind to root it and use it properly.
Im mad straight at sony.
How can u really prove its really 4k? Even if u do, does this screen look sharper than 1080p screens? For god sake i can see pixel grids i get cuz of the pattern of the pixels but i paid for a. 4k screen and i dont understand how you can actually say its sharper than other 1080 or 2k phones.. It isnt i can show you pics of it going against the z3 and the samsung and the htc and this is supposed to have the best screen of all? Im sorry if im coming out as a pain dissing the device but im saying the truth in my eyes and this doesnt look anything like I expected from a 4k screen to deliver... The worst i expected is for it to not be worse than 1080p phones.. But its even worse so im really disappointed.

So your judgement is derived from 'limited' tests using an emulator and your visual perception, just because the difference is not discernible to your eyes you believe it is a lie, fair enough, that is your opinion after all. But to come to that conclusion again by limited means of testing, that does not stand true against what other people have tested and examined and again, peoples perception differs, whether it is a figment of someone imagination or a actual fact, but people can see the crispness, clarity, sharpness or whatever you words you want to use.
I myself do not game, watch videos, skype or so on with my phone, I use it purely as a phone, a means of communication and the few times I have displayed 4K content, I have been clearly able to see the difference in what I am looking at, but that by using 4K .MKV files from my NAS and 4K images, maybe, just maybe that is because I do not spend more than a few minutes at a time looking at the screen of my phone, and spend less than an hour a day actually using my phone. Who knows.

well im not just using "an" emulator im using the only way to show the device in 4k all the time. have you seen youtube videos on "how to enable 4k at all times" which means not just apps that support 4k but all the phone. so my point is using this emulator, the device is not naively 4k, proven! I provided pics of z5c running at 2k when its a 720p, im just saying this is not a native 4k method.
my second point is, yes after running this particular method the device does look sharper than it was, but not sharper than other devices. sharpness is not a matter of opinion nor imagination, if it was a color problem i could be color blind yes, but sharpness is not a personal opinion, its a fact. maybe a few tests arent enough but having an old phone as old as the z3 showing crisper images on instagram and almost any other app or picture, with better white balance against this so called premium phone with supposedly 4k screen just doesnt sit tight in my expectations in fact its worse than the worst you can expect...
not just the z3, but the s8, z5 premium, these are devices i have hold of to compare but if these devices have crisper image than this 4k then you tell me sony didnt lie to us...
and I also have a samsung s5 phone and i went to youtube, got into "4k wild animals" video put on my xz premium 4k settings, and 1080 on the s5 and the s5 looks just as sharp and on some edges even sharper.
does this make sense to you? maybe youre not believing me because there are no display comparisons for this device against others, except the s8, which evidently the s8 has a sharper display (the XZ premium is stated as more realistic but less sharper) so people cant really tell a difference and id be happy to post pictures of comparison.
PS: just a thing to think about for you, do you really think I would go through this much trouble and time trying to prove the device is actually 4k, if the device was as pleasing as I expected? why would I bother? a 4k screen would make you go "GOD DAMN THIS SCREEN IS AWESOMEEEE!" and not "HMM seems fishy I think I should check that out". just saying you should think about that.

not just the z3, but the s8, z5 premium, these are devices i have hold of to compare but if these devices have crisper image than this 4k then you tell me sony didnt lie to us...
and I also have a samsung s5 phone and i went to youtube, got into "4k wild animals" video put on my xz premium 4k settings, and 1080 on the s5 and the s5 looks just as sharp and on some edges even sharper.
does this make sense to you? maybe youre not believing me because there are no display comparisons for this device against others, except the s8, which evidently the s8 has a sharper display (the XZ premium is stated as more realistic but less sharper) so people cant really tell a difference and id be happy to post pictures of comparison.
PS: just a thing to think about for you, do you really think I would go through this much trouble and time trying to prove the device is actually 4k, if the device was as pleasing as I expected? why would I bother? a 4k screen would make you go "GOD DAMN THIS SCREEN IS AWESOMEEEE!" and not "HMM seems fishy I think I should check that out". just saying you should think about that.

I think you may have missed something, the phone is not running 4K full time and if you looked into it before purchase as most 'enthusiasts' do, you would research a device before taking the plunge and splashing out large amounts of money. I purchased my XZP a month or so after launch, after having read many reviews and visited this section of XDA as I had the Z5P before this and I was aware, even from the Z5P that 4K was an 'on-demand' feature only utilised by certain applications. So there is that, but also on your point of clarity, I cannot say whether you are right or wrong in comparison to other devices as I solely use the one phone and only have the need for one phone so there would be no need for me to 'check' against other phones as it does not matter to me how other devices perform, I own a XZP.
I do understand what you are getting at though, the problem is, you have placed far too much emphasis on how other devices perform and to be frank, there are not a large number of people who are in the same boat as you, you may find some feel the same way but look at the majority of users on XDA of the XZP, they have no complaints and even the Devs who I assume are far more knowledgeable than both of us are fine with the XZP.

well that is true although i did spend quite a lot of time researching the phone not one reviewer said that it doesnt run 4k all the time. i didnt own a z5 so i didnt know, after a while some reviewers stated the fact that it doesnt run at all times, even so mate im not hating nor mad at any one except sony you know why? cuz a lot of customers went on to sony support center asking for enabling 4k at all time, you know what sony suggested? using that emulator I talked about earlier, it was ok at first but i have a sharp eye to notice things, and I did notice that the screen is still not as sharp, so then I tried running the emulator on my 720p screen z5c and it ran at 2k... then I was surprised and disappointed that sony them selves would answer the question of "how to enable 4k at all times" with a virtual emulator rather than to allow enjoy *native* 4k.
thats one point made, second point is maybe im too into my device than any one else, to the point where I go digging on it and comparing it its because its a newer generation.
Im paying for a new phone, if im getting just as good as previews owns then why buy? cuz technology is developing, sony said its 4k, but they tell us to virtually emulate it to use it all the time at 4k, lying to our faces? it worked on the z5c so how is that native? how does that make our device special? I could have sticked to my old phone had my screen fixed for a lil money if im getting 2k at a 4.7" screen is even better than 4k on 5.5" so why sony advertisers are so hype "oh look 4k, WOW damn sony is good JEEZ 4k screen on a smartphone thats some thing else right there thats new thats TECHNOLOGY right there" when its just a software emulating pixels, again, even if the screen is proven 4K, the method sony has provided us to run it at 4k at all times isnt really 4k and they say it is, who knows what else they are lying about keep digging and ill find more trust me.
"only look at your plate, stay out of others plates" that is true, but in this case, the plate company has gave me a reason to buy their plate so I would enjoy what the plate has to offer, once I got the plate, it isnt what I wanted, so I ordered a 4k phone, it didnt look like one, sure to some people it is a great display i think so too, it is VERY good, crisp and is very realistic and natural, but some people and not only me, you can see in a lot of threads that there are a lot of pissed off mislead people because the hype of this phone is 4K HDR.
sadly if its better than other 1080p phones, it looks the same some times worse, in some cases better but not in terms of sharpness. the more pixels you have the more detailed the display, ive seen more details on other screens.
im stuck with the device i aint selling its pretty good overall im not complaining about the device, but I am mad at sony for pissing me off it is a great device, but my expectations were a lot higher, very disappointing by sony...
thats just the screen, it pisses me off even more knowing that most phone companies use SONY cameras and sony cant even compete with them in terms of photo quality, just shows how low lives money hungry they are... very manipulative and dont care about their customers. telling me to virtually run 4k is actually NATIVE when it clearly can run a 720p phone in 2k!

There are other ways to enable 4K or even 2K on the phone via ADB I believe, take a look around the forum and you might find a better way to run it rather than the emulator.
I have never looked into it myself because I am satisfied with the phone and do not want 4K to be always on and drain my battery. Also, that is another consideration Sony factored in, as on the Z5P and the XZP, 4K and battery life need to coexist, and though the screen is of course a major feature as advertised, they have to find a balance as not all consumers are like us XDA users, most people do not root their phones and mess with them like we do. You have to remember that also, we would love certain features but we need a balance, the XZP could have been even bigger and heavier if they had constant 4K and a larger capacity battery to support it and provide enough juice to last 2 days, you have to remember that battery charge times, in-call and standby times are also major factors, people do buy because of battery life expectations, having to charge less, having greater freedom of usage and not having to worry about charging every hour.

Yah the phone i awesome after all, even on youtube on 4k i thought it would be more crisp, it is pretty crisp and sharp but i expected more on 4k display thats what dissapointed me cuz my s5 in youtube on 1080p is sharper than ny xz premiun on 4k in the same video so it kind of bugs me..
Overall the quality of the display and colors produce a more natural display but when it comes to sharpness i expected better.

I completely understand where you are coming from, you built up your expectations from the way Sony advertised the device, the main selling features but it fell short of your expectations, unfortunately, that can happen a lot and there is little we can do about it, I believe the majority of users feel that way about at least one thing on the XZP and that seems to revolve around the Camera itself and how the quality of images is inferior to other manufacturers using the same Sony camera.
Maybe you can go to a store and compare other Sony devices against your expectations for your next purchase, maybe you can save yourself some money and find a 'cheaper' device that meets your expectations because we know how expensive the XZP was and who knows if the next 'Premium' device will be any better.

yah Im from Israel, we almost dont have any store that shows you the device before purchasing, you just go to the store and ask for what you want to buy and you cant open any thing before purchase...
so I cant really compare and sony isnt famous in israel when it comes to phones so its hard to find some one who has sony to compare with so I rely on the internet.
I actually checked some youtube videos on speed test against some flagship devices from other manufacturers and I noticed that the xzp does have a crisp screen (could be the camera not catching the best angle for the displays) so in my conclusion all the manufactures are using QHD and UHD displays but their previous devices that has 1080p have crisper displays,either that or before they used over-saturated amoled displays that made the screen look sharper but now are using more natural image producing displays less saturated which caused our eye to believe its less sharp, I dont really understand, still I expected better.
yes camera is inferior due to lack of OIS but in videos in the morning it does perform better than all in my opinion, still hold the device in a tripod it will perform just as good even at night...
Yet Sony is the main camera provider for most of the other manufactures and yet sony devices have lower quality than all, just doesnt make any sense, here I ask my self this question:
Is sony doing this because they get more money from other manufactures buying their camera than costumers buying their phones? maybe they have a contract on which sony is not allowed to produce better images than its competitors otherwise they would stop buying cameras from them? - I actually read that some where...

@madshark2009 Just download AIDA64 from play store.. it reads the hardware spec of the display panel. it clear says the screen resolution is 2160*3840. i guess this answer your question. FYI - this is shown as this while you are running the phone even at stock 1080p mode. so calm down mate XD

Yah bro im calm i do believe its a 4k display.
But:
Its only used in a couple of apps.
And no, adb commands dont turn it to NATIVE 4K.
So yayyyy native 4k is only enabled in 3 apps.
Thats ok to you? They didnt even include an option for us!
Sony stricted using 4k at all times! Heck the display is even a 120hz display and its not even enabled! Aosp reads the screen as 120hz but no one knows how to activate it!
So yah we have 4k display but only used in 2-3 apps and not even in the UI! So yah to me they lied cuz i paid for 4k, not for "sometimes 4k" so really samsung has 2k but at least you can use google chrome in native 2k or instagram or the UI or any thing! Now thats some real 2k! And they add an option to lower!
So why sony stricting us? To me i concider their work not the best in these terms.

now that i do agree with you my man.. but then again we have to think of it in multiple ways.. im pretty sure sony was scared of general performance issues and people will nag about it. all and all one pro member here pointed me out that there is a oreo asop rom which utilizes the panel and render the entire ui and apps in 4k ( its a dynamic resolution changer embedded with the kernal) . you should try that
i got my phone like a week ago... will run stock for a week or two more and will start taking the virginity away to try this.

yah but its still not functional as i read it needs more modification.
and true, it could make performance drop dramatically, but they should add that in options like a switch, and when you enable 4k, a message should appear and say "you may notice stutters and a drop in performance, please do not use for high graphics games to enjoy overall performance" or some thing like that, that way the customer can choose whether to give up on performance for graphics or give up on graphics for performance, I mean its really not that laggy when just surfing the device, and then you can just switch to 1080 when you game, I dont know why they wouldnt do that...
Im waiting for @Miustone he has a good project coming up and ill see the feedback on battery, camera, display and if its worth it then ima give up my warranty.

Pretty much all reviewers that are even somewhat relevant on Youtube outlined that the UI and most of the apps aren't really rendered in 4K.
I was aware of this information when the phone wasn't even released yet, some reviewers got their review samples early, and they noticed that right away, they probably got that info in the reviewer's guide Sony gives them as well, so I cannot imagine how you managed to avoid this very important piece of spec, if you've done the research before purchase, as you said. I haven't seen an XZP review that didn't mention that. If there is one, it's a bad one.
I don't know about you guys, but I don't even consider buying the latest model in the first four to six months of the release, until the dust settles and user reviews come out. I'm not paying that kind of money to be an early adopter. Also, in six months, the prices go down a lot, specially with Sony.
So, my somewhat-informed opinion is that no, Sony did not lie about the screen. Sure, it wasn't specified in the spec-sheet, but still, it was a well documented "feature" upon the release.
And the fact that it's a 120Hz panel, means nothing and doesn't necessarily mean you can run it at actual 120Hz. You might, but it's not a guarantee. Its' just the panel.
I bet you plenty of premium phones out there have panels that are capable of 120Hz, or even more, but to actually enable that and make it work as it's supposed to is not that simple and I'm sure if Sony could pull that off, they would. Because bigger numbers in spec sheets sell phones, bigger numbers are better. Always. Specially in spec sheets.
I know for a fact that my desktop monitor's panel is capable of 100HZ at least, 'cause I have the same panel in my other monitor that runs at 120Hz. But everything else apart from the panel is very very different in those two monitors. Panel alone doesn't make a screen/monitor.

yes i have done my research, but only after a long period was it discovered that the ADB commands only run it in 4k VIRTUALLY which I didnt think it would be that way (and a lot of others still dont even know what virtual is)
i thought it was native, some thing that makes our device more special than others.
ive seen lots of reviews where they claim this mod is actually 4k because SONY said so, but its not native, so its a lie.
ask in sony forums how to enable 4k at all times, they give you this method and its not even native and they are telling customers its real 4k. you tell me thats not a lie?
I dont care how virtual 4k looks like, I could have bought the samsung having native 2k. I could have bought the HTC or the iphone, I could have even stayed on my previous phone and used the commands and run it at 2k/4k, whats the point of paying extra if you only get native support of 4k for a couple of apps? I actually thought only the XZ premium is 4k so when I had my z5 compact with a broken screen I was like "hey why spend much money on fixing? looks like the new phones are all coming 2k/4k why stick to 720p??" so i bought the xz premium cuz I felt like im oldschool I wanted an upgrade, but if i knew this method works on my z5c I wouldnt have thought of buying a new phone I could have just paid 50$ and got it fixed.
