S4 boot loop fails recovery mode - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So my S4 will show logo, and when loading recovery shows the tiny text entering recover mode (on logo screen) then goes dark.
On 'normal boot' just goes dark, when charging shows grey battery with lightning symbol for 5 seconds then goes dark.
It will not show battery a second time if you remove charge and replace.
Battery when removed (15 seconds or more) put in, phone immediatly vibrates then shows boot logo.
You need to have buttons (v up, pwr, home) held before putting battery in to get the recovery mode text to display. It does not display recovery mode screen.
My next try will be reboot recovery and blind guess 'clear cache'
Has any had this issue?
Phone started issue after a drop, I have examined circuit and did not see physical damage. (Not my first phone fix) I was originally thinking charge circuit failed but battery is fully charged (voltimeter).

Stuck on "Erasing..." after factory reset attempt

Hi, my parents N7 wasn't used for a long time and it was completely dead. It couldn't even stay on when plugged in.
I went into the shutdown mode to charge it for an hour or so and managed to get it on.
The battery was at 2%. I decided to do a factory reset while the device was plugged in but now it's become stuck on the Erasing screen. Its been there for a few hours now. I've tried restarting but it just goes back to the Erasing screen. I've also tried booting into recovery but it just goes straight to the "Erasing..." screen again.
When I press power and vol up on the Erasing screen it tells me "Formatting /data...." in small yellow writing but like I say its been like it for hours.
Any advice? device is completely stock, not rooted or anything.
Thanks
Make sure you are using the OEM 2.0A charger from Asus and leave it connected to charge overnight for at least 8 to 12 hours. Unplug it and wait a few minutes before attempting to get into Recovery Mode or Bootloader (hold Volume Down & Power to restart) - if that work, reconnect the power supply as you want it to get power while cycling.
Keep a close watch on any error or messages popping up on the screen as you do this - post them here.
What is your goal in doing a Factory Reset ?
If the battery is completely dead & remained in that state for a long time, it might not come back to life & a replacement battery is probably the answer for the long run - is it out of warranty ?

Hi the correct has been used. I left it charging over night and is now at 100%. I can tell this from the battery indicator in the middle of the screen when I power off.
When I try and boot into recovery (vol - & power) the device just goes back to the "Erasing..." screen where it stays indefinitely (to my knowledge). The screen is still animated (the robot with the blue rotating graphic inside him).
If the warranty is 1 year then I believe it has expired.
Thanks

Is there any way to clear the pending factory reset request? I can't believe an untouched, un rooted device has just bricked like this
I am putting a $20 reward via paypal for anyone who can supply the solution to this as a thank you for the time they put into it. Thanks.

It's strange indeed. Make sure you keep holding volume down until you (in theory should) get to the bootloader menu.
I have the same problem. Whenever I turn the device on, it goes straight to Erasing... screen, no way out. If I try to do Power+Volume Down thing, it turns off the device, then it'll start again and back to Erasing... screen. Help! :crying:

By the coincidence, is your batt serial no beginning with BD? If so, look on the battery. Is it swollen a bit? If so - call samsung, they will replace battery free of charge.
If not, try to connect phone to charger, insert battery, go to recovery and make full wipe.

it might be a power button issue
ok, this may be tricky.
while keeping volume down and home - slice battery in. If phone would boot in download mode (even just for a while) - then it will be power button issue.
it boots up on download mode for seconds and then powered off again....
Im digging up this post because this is the same problem i had.
I ended up removing the power button all together, carefully popped it off the motherboard. The phone no longer boots for a couple secs and powers off again so i think the power button was the issue. Now i have the problem of powering on the phone. I tried booting into download mode (to have the reboot option) by holding volume down+home while plugging it in but nothing happens, all i get is the battery charging icon. Ive been into download mode before i removed the button, but like the OP, it would only be a second or 2 before rebooting. Am i doing the correct procedure for download mode? Perhaps my timing is off? Any suggestions?
At least i do get the battery charge and it stays until i unplug the phone, no more boot loop!

Ok so i managed to get the phone to power up without going into download mode using this method i found on youtube. No boot loop and fully powered up now, the only thing is that im stuck on the lock screen. My friend cant remember his pin so i cant get in, the only option left now is to boot into recovery and do a factory reset yes? Well, how can i do that without a power button? Any suggestions?

N7 shows either black screen with scrambling dots or green

Hello
I left it charging all night long but when i wanted to power it on it shows the Google logo then it turns black with some scrambling white dots(noise) as i would guess is loading up.
I restarted it few times up to it was showing just a green screen .
If i power it on and holding the volume buttons it does show the bootloader menu (the green android) normally but when i choose recovery mode it starts again with the white noise .So basically i can only see clearly the Google logo and the bootloader menu.
I don't know what is broken so i can replace . The screen? The display ribbon?
I changed the battery 3 weeks ago and it has been fine up til now.
Oh and it does not boot up at all unless it's plugged in
Could a bad battery cause video issues?
Has anyone seen anything similar or can maybe give me a hint or what could be broken?
Thank you
try to flash stock rom again
maybe ur system and recovery partition gone bad.

Boot Logo Repeating

I have a galaxy s4 (i9500) and got it in used condition, a year ago. Never suspected a single problem in it.
Today I powered off my mobile for charging then after 25 minutes I took it off. I held the power button then I saw my boot logo(Where there is written Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-i9500). That logo kept showing as usual for 2 seconds and screen went black and again that logo appeared for 2 seconds and screen gone black and again it appeared, so, I'm stuck in kinda loop not a bootlooop exactly(maybe because bootloop refers to being stuck on boot screen while in my case its boot logo). I then removed the battery and inserted it back after an hour and as soon as I inserted it back the mobile itself turned on as if I held power button but this time again I was stuck in that loop. Moreover when I tried going into download mode, I didn't even need to hold the power button along with the volume down and home, it itself proceeded to confirmation screen of odin mode. And after that confirmation screen appeared saying that whether I really want to boot into download mode, disappeared itself after like 3 or 4 seconds even though I didn't press any key. And in case I press vol up key confirming to boot to download mode, then it again takes me to that loop. I'm too much confused . I can't even flash the firmware as it won;t boot to download mode neither am I able to boot into recovery.
Now do u really think the problem might be the power button(Which is maybe stuck in the state of pressed).
Or else it can be the battery coz my battery is also just average not too good?
I also inserted the command( in build.prop file) for enabling nav. bar and the code was correct but I never rebooted after inserting that. this was the first time I rebooted after that.
SOrry for some bad English.
Do you have something like this? I'm now having problem with getting my phone back to work...

From what you say it seams like power button problem, try to start the phone and connect it to the charger. When it start take out the battery, it will be powered by charger and you will eliminate battery problem.

g2 keeps rebooting on logo while charging

Hello, my friend's lg g2 keeps rebooting while plugged on charger, i even can't enter recovery mode or download mode, it reboots somewhere in the middle (for ex. text "loading" comes up and then phone switches off).
if i press power button the same happens but it doesn't loops as it does while charging.
i think is is mostly hardware problem because the battery is swollen, so am i right or not?
and also the screen is broken but i don't think i is the reason of problem
