I have a galaxy s4 (i9500) and got it in used condition, a year ago. Never suspected a single problem in it.
Today I powered off my mobile for charging then after 25 minutes I took it off. I held the power button then I saw my boot logo(Where there is written Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-i9500). That logo kept showing as usual for 2 seconds and screen went black and again that logo appeared for 2 seconds and screen gone black and again it appeared, so, I'm stuck in kinda loop not a bootlooop exactly(maybe because bootloop refers to being stuck on boot screen while in my case its boot logo). I then removed the battery and inserted it back after an hour and as soon as I inserted it back the mobile itself turned on as if I held power button but this time again I was stuck in that loop. Moreover when I tried going into download mode, I didn't even need to hold the power button along with the volume down and home, it itself proceeded to confirmation screen of odin mode. And after that confirmation screen appeared saying that whether I really want to boot into download mode, disappeared itself after like 3 or 4 seconds even though I didn't press any key. And in case I press vol up key confirming to boot to download mode, then it again takes me to that loop. I'm too much confused . I can't even flash the firmware as it won;t boot to download mode neither am I able to boot into recovery.
Now do u really think the problem might be the power button(Which is maybe stuck in the state of pressed).
Or else it can be the battery coz my battery is also just average not too good?
I also inserted the command( in build.prop file) for enabling nav. bar and the code was correct but I never rebooted after inserting that. this was the first time I rebooted after that.
SOrry for some bad English.
Do you have something like this? I'm now having problem with getting my phone back to work...

From what you say it seams like power button problem, try to start the phone and connect it to the charger. When it start take out the battery, it will be powered by charger and you will eliminate battery problem.

By the coincidence, is your batt serial no beginning with BD? If so, look on the battery. Is it swollen a bit? If so - call samsung, they will replace battery free of charge.
If not, try to connect phone to charger, insert battery, go to recovery and make full wipe.

it might be a power button issue
ok, this may be tricky.
while keeping volume down and home - slice battery in. If phone would boot in download mode (even just for a while) - then it will be power button issue.
it boots up on download mode for seconds and then powered off again....
Im digging up this post because this is the same problem i had.
I ended up removing the power button all together, carefully popped it off the motherboard. The phone no longer boots for a couple secs and powers off again so i think the power button was the issue. Now i have the problem of powering on the phone. I tried booting into download mode (to have the reboot option) by holding volume down+home while plugging it in but nothing happens, all i get is the battery charging icon. Ive been into download mode before i removed the button, but like the OP, it would only be a second or 2 before rebooting. Am i doing the correct procedure for download mode? Perhaps my timing is off? Any suggestions?
At least i do get the battery charge and it stays until i unplug the phone, no more boot loop!

Ok so i managed to get the phone to power up without going into download mode using this method i found on youtube. No boot loop and fully powered up now, the only thing is that im stuck on the lock screen. My friend cant remember his pin so i cant get in, the only option left now is to boot into recovery and do a factory reset yes? Well, how can i do that without a power button? Any suggestions?
Hello,
First I've looked everywhere for the last three days on something about this and I can find nothing so I come to you in a new thread for help.
I have a Verizon Note 3
SM-N900VZKEVZW
I'm having an issue where if I take the battery out and put a new one in I need to plug the phone in before I can power it on. I was running Hyperdrive but I reverted back to stock.
Here is an example of the issue.
If I shut down the phone and don't remove the battery I can press the power button and it will power on just fine; however, if I shut down the phone to put in my second battery that is fully charged or just take out the original battery and put it back in the power button does nothing until the phone is plugged in. When I plug the phone it the battery icon will come on.... the screen will freeze with a snow screen and then go to the stock battery changing screen at which point I can use the power button to power on the phone.
Another weird thing is I cannot boot in to recovery with by holding the power button and down on the volume button if I do this the phone will just keep looping at the Samsung screen with a lock on it; however if I boot in to recovery through safe strap I can get there.
I've done a factory reset and reinstalled the rom and recovery and I still have this issue.
Attached Images are the snowy screen and the screen that will keep rebooting if I try to get to recovery with power and volume down. (now the snowy screen has changed to a battery screen superimposed with the safe strap screen it only shows up for a second before going to the battery charging screen)
Please someone help!
Second question what should I do if I need to send the phone back to samsung? Or should I just deal with the battery thing? Other than that the phone works fine.
Thank you.
Dont know if any one is facing the same problem.
Installed Lollipop in my S4 over the air, 2 weeks ago.
A week back, my phone entered into BootLoop mode. Phone gets re-started. I can see Samsung logo and it gets restarted again. I tried removing the battery and kept it back. Started working fine then.
Since today after noon, my S4 is in complete boot loop. Tried removing the battery and kept it back. Yet it is in bootloop.
Unable to enter into Developer options also. Please help
I hit the Power Button against a Flat Surface. It Vibrates and shows the Samsung Logo. But then it turns off.
Is the battery empty maybe?
My guess is that your power button is faulty. Either try to wiggle it lose or replace it. It's really cheap
If it reboots in download mode and/or your recovery then it's your power button.

I tried it again with wiggling and hitting it a little bit.
it turns on automatically and then it turns off after some second again
So, I have a Samsung SM-T230NU. When I tried to power it on, it flashed for a split second the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 logo and then went blank. I figured it was out of juice, so I plugged it in and let it charge for an hour or so.
When I came back, it was flashing and going dark.
I tried a different cable. As soon as power was applied, it flashed and went dark again.
Now, the boot logo is showing for an even briefer amount of time.
I am suspecting the battery or USB port. I don't have parts readily available to swap, however.
It may be worth adding, when I plug in the device, without touching any buttons, the screen starts flashing the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 boot logo. I would guess a stuck power button, but the power button travels freely. When I unplug the tablet from the computer, the flashing stops.
Trying to boot it with power + volume up garners no response from the device.
Any ideas?
Having same issue here
Tried hard reset, no dice.
Tried opening the back to see if I can identify some loose connection, didn't see anything funny. I am not an electrician.
My sister's having the same issue with her T230NU. It still boots (it'll boot to the Samsung splash, but then it flashes off the screen in half a second; this repeats every 7 seconds), but only if it's plugged directly to the wall charger. She let it sit overnight to charge, and it's still got this issue. I'm pretty sure her battery was drained when the issue started occurring last night, but it doesn't look like the battery has charged much (if at all) since then.
Hi,
I have a problem regarding my unit. I am not very good in this stuff because I just started. I had someone root my phone for me and I learned how to flash custom ROMS. I had a custom ROM flashed and my phone was working fine. then I got bored so I flashed a different ROM but then I noticed some annoying features of the ROM so I switched back to last custom ROM I had ( the first custom ROM I flashed). One night my phone got fully drained so it turned-off. When I plugged the charger in the phone showed a symbol of a battery charging for about 3 seconds then it turned off. It did not turn on again even after I pressed the power button. I took out the battery and plugged it in the phone and then the phone automatically turned on and showed the name of the unit only (white text on black background: "SAMSUNG GALAXY S4") and on the top left of the screen appeared some text ("kernel is not seandroid enforcing" and below it is " set warranty bit: kernel"). I cannot access recovery and download mode( in a way) because when I plug in the battery and hold power + home button + volume up, in the top left corner of the screen, it states that it is in recovery mode but even before the TWRP could start, the phone would turn off immediately. Same goes for the Download mode. I can reach up to the part where I would choose whether to continue or not to download mode but even before I could make a choice, the phone would shutdown immediately. I have been using custom ROMS for almost a year now and never had a serious problem (aside from the part where my phone at times suddenly reboots for no reason at all) until that night where my phone ran out of battery power. Now i tried charging the battery using a clip charger because I was thinking that maybe the charging port of my phone is defective, but as it turns out, I didn't have any luck at all. I tried to plug in the battery again and the phone turned on automatically (without pressing the power button) but the problem remains the same. can anyone please help me regarding my phone problem? it would be very much appreciated.
Thank you

Your power button is stuck/faulty.
It's common problem on the s4. Try to wiggle it loose or replace it.

It's the power button.
Your device will not turn on because the power button is stuck in the pressed position.
Replace or try to loosen it.
