There is Definitely something wrong here. It's a clear Glass back, so it couldn't have any black scars or have any paint coming of...
It's either something you have to wipe off, either there is something wrong here.

This has been reported by others as well, exchange it,
Looks like it's bad seal from the back glass (quality control snafu), bad batches of phones, check production date
Examples here and here
I don't have mine yet, still in pre-order state here in the US, shipping will start on July 24th
This is what I think. It is from inside of the glas. Nothing to do with pocket. Some film uder the glass or paint. Quality issue. Exchange it. You have warranty.
This is putting me off buying right now, are they all like this or just a few or batch

Had a white one and it was fine for the first 3/4 weeks, then noticed bottom corners of the back were starting to look scuffed up under the glass and realised mine was suffering from the paint peeling issue as well. Have sent it back and currently awaiting a replacement. Pretty poor really, in this day and age, to be paying so much for a phone that has such a basic manufacturing defect.
Wi-Fi seems slow to initiate. After waking phone it often takes ~5 seconds for any connection to work. 4G, 5G, 2,4-5. Doesn't matter. Feel bad because had to ship phone back after 5 days because the digitizer died in front of everyone while I was showing them the camera. took around a month to repair; that one too had ****ty connectivity. Sometimes you just stick your hand in your pocket and feel this heat coming off the idle phone near the bottom. Makes me wonder whether Sony still got this. Every phone they released (That I bought) has one or more crippling issue(s).
Sent the 1st white one back to Wondamobile and they quickly sent a replacement. The replacement lasted less than a week before the paint started peeling off again behind the glass. FFS Sony, it is 2020...having an issue like this is rather pathetic. So, I sent it back again for a refund this time. Now, you might think..."I could live with that and/or I can just put a case on it" but I never use cases plus, I always sell my phones on after a year. By the time I come to sell it half of the paint on the back could be gone and I'd get much less for it when it comes to be sold so I'm not going to take that hit when it's a clear manufacturing fault.
I will get the Xperia 5ii instead as the refund has n ow come through.
Very disappointed as it is a great phone. Not interested in the black before anyone chips in, I like the lighter sides of white phones as they hide dust better.

I know this thread is pointless but I just had to let go of some pains
Took my morning dump this morning. After the victory I got up and my sgs2 thought it would be a good idea to jump out of my pocket and join my swimming friends
Is a bag of rice still the best option?? I pulled it out really quick however, its not powering on even after 3-4 hours of drying...
Also, luckily I was due for a new phone with Fido and had alot of unused "fido dollars" to cover the cost of any phone i chose. I played around with the GNex and I cant for the life of me, figure out how that phone compares to the sgs2 in anything-that includes screen! Even at full brightness it simply isnt as bright.
Got a white iphone 4s still sealed in the box already posted on kijiji for $600.00
Looking for some good prices for an sgs2 right now.
That's pretty ****ty.

Never power it on after it's gone swimming. Just put it in a bag of rice and let it dry for about a week or so. I had an iPhone 3GS that was completely under water for about an hour and after a month in a bag of rice, it turned on without any issues, other than that the backlight of the LCD was dead.
hehehe, no ****!

ahhh gutted for you mate other than an iphone 4s there isnt really much choice out there if your looking for a powerhouse smartphone
i purchased the iphone 4s with the intention of selling it. A sealed iphone 4s still sells for $580 and up. Want to use the money for a new sgs2. Good thing is, i was one of the unfortunate few to purchase the slightly handicapped camera version. Going to look out for that.
I wont lie, i am tempted to try the 4s out but that screen just needs to be much bigger. Dont want to crack the seal.
Do yourself a favor, get a waterproof case for your next phone.
I see SGS2's around here going for 400 or so. I'll trade you mine for a GNEX hahah

If you're thinking of having sushi later make sure you don't use that, as it'd be a whole different kind of sticky-rice.
lol. yea. the phone is definitely going to be spending some time in the cleaning process afterwards! Now, what to do about the new iphone 4s and contract i signed. Take the cash for the iphone 4s now, or go back to the store and cancel the contract agreement to use for later......
Mate the htc sensation is very close in most aspects to the sgs2 with the exception of nand memory. User reviews recon its made stronger and the screen shows colour better.
As for the iphone sell it and get sim converted to normal one.

GUYS,
PLEASE BEWARE, the Galaxy S3 is no where as sturdy as the S1 which i previously owned or a S2.
Today it just fell off from my pocket and see what happened to the screen :-(
I had dropped my previous S1 a million times in the period of 2 years and not a single scratch
I am going to give it in on warranty, pathetic stuff from samsung
please everyone take care and use a casing.
Yikes
That's annoying. Hope you get it fixed mate.
I wonder if Samsung does that dirty trick of logging out the G sensor to detect whether it's been dropped or not and not accept warranty repairs based on it.
It was all fine after the drop. I used it for about 30 min. Then when i woke up in the morning, the screen was like this
it was a very subtle drop, this is pathetic quality and should be covered under manufacturer defect
Warranty don't cover clumsiness
G-sensor isn't a dirty trick to see if phone is dropped its proof
Sending back for warranty repairs saying you didn't drop it is a dirty trick
If you drop your phone a million times I strongly suggest phone insurance and a otter box case
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
then they should say that this phone is made out of glass.
ITs a phone its supposed to be able to take such small hicups

To be fair, its pretty reasonable to expect that someone would at some point in a two year period drop a device that they will likely be carrying about with them ALL the time and removing it from and replacing it in their pocket frequently.
Just yesterday my s3, having only got it on monday, slid off the arm of my sofa because every surface of it is glassy smooth and bounced off the edge of a wooden table. Luckily it was unscathed but it is not unreasonable to expect a device of this nature to be able to withstand such an accident.
There is a certain amount of luck involved here though because obvioisly even the lightest tap at the right angle and position could shatter a screen.

With today's technology and what it costs is the minimum that can withstand drops of at least 50 cm like my RAZR .........
If im not mistaken it seems as if all the white ones are the ones with the faulty issues... the cracked screens, the exploding phone, dead screen... dont you think that might be the reason they're releasing the white at a later time? to perfect it a lil more...i read something where that they had to redo the pebble blue because of some issues and maybe they're redo'ing the white version...hmmm makes sense....:good:
Unlucky mate, hope it gets fixed. I am fairly certain that my phone is going to get dropped sooner or later, simply because it's so big (even more so in a case) that I can't hold it securely in one hand and operate it properly at the same time.
Tbh I'm going to keep hold of it until the rumoured multiple Nexuses come out later in the year and then maybe sell it on to get something slightly smaller.

no. I think since the pebble blue was delayed due to Samsung's color issue, the bulk of what was immediately available were the white phones. Then when a few units had problems, they happened to be white.
My white one fell out of my hoody jacket as I was running for the bus, I was lucky that it landed on the cement, not the grass or I wouldn't have noticed it. Three corners have massive damage and there paint scraped off, it really did hit the ground hard. But the screen is perfect

I agree that if you drop your phone you only have yourself to blame if it breaks but having said that i also believe a device like this should be able to withstand some drops, they managed it with the S1 & the S2.
My advice would be to get it insured and get a case of any description, something is better than nothing, even if it's only a pouch!

Hey everyone,
My Xperia Z1 Compact has been sent in to the repair center now because of a waterdamage caused by a leaking backcover / frame whick killed the camera button first and then the mainboard. All flaps and so were closed and no water got in that way. 2-3 weeks and I'll have my Z1 Compact again.
Anyone else who've been sending in their phones on warranty because of waterdamage? How did it go? Did they replace the phone or did they just repair it?

Man, I don't even want to know how Sony is going to handle warranty claims based on water damage.
It's going to be a nightmare. At least in Germany, where mobile phone companies try a lot of things to avoid a warranty repair / exchange.
How will it be possible for the consumer (and Sony) to determine whether it was an open port or a valid claim....?
How are things going to play out if Sony claims that it was an open port - and I'm sure it wasn't.
Those are the concerns that make me keep my Z1c dry at the moment...
Regards,
Yoko
maybe replace it with a refurbished one
Sent from my iNew V3 using Tapatalk
Yup happened to me.
What happened was, I bought this in Taiwan on my honeymoon and to test the "WaterProof" claim, I threw it in the ocean in Guam, took under water photos with it and it died a few hours later.
Sony said that they it is waterproof only in FRESHWATER but the repair center was nice enough to send me a brand new replacement unit. Since this was a product outside of the USA region, they actually went out of their way to import it and send it to me. The process took a month but I'm happy they made the effort!
yep, my phone is for evetualy rain drops or drops from bath, i dont trust this device in the pool...

WOW!
That would never hapen in Germany, at least I have never heard of such a customer service!
Indeed the Z1c is only rated for fresh water with the explanation that salt water will conduct electricity between the two magnetic charger points...
I don't know about that, but at least they gave an explanation...

My fones back is somewhat creaky.. should i be worried about this waterdamage stuff? I use it in water alot and dont want to ruin it but i got a waterproof fone cause i wanted a 'waterproof' one! I want to install the glass back to maby make it more solid.
howdy all,
bought my device early february in germany and took it into a freshwater pool standing and taking a couple of underwater face shots via the camera button.
shortly after that the display startet to get all distorted and i powered it off all the way and took out all cards. i thoroughly airdryed it with the car vents on my way back home and was able to revive it.
a couple of days later i repeated the procedure in the said pool and it killed the device - it shut down and upon restart it got stuck at the battery symbol.
all indicators had turned red even though i am sure i closed all holes correctly and did not exceed the depth limitations!
since there was no saturn in my city i returned it to mediamarkt, who luckily exchanged the device to a brand spanking new one- i doubt they send it to sony care center before that!
lucky me, i guess!
left wondering how far i can go with my new device and what the cause for this dreaded leakage might have been !!!???
greetz
Thanks for sharing your story. Maybe in this way Sony will realize that when they write IPX7 on their specs, people expect that rating to be real.
Sorry folks but I am not going to take a risk to use the phone under water just to take two silly pictures. I think it's nice to have a phone that you can use while it rains, but if I really want to take pics underwater I just buy a camera. Also this 30 minutes limit sounds kinda silly, I never heard a waterproof device that goes by time.
I am not sure how sony got that rating approved, or even if the rating is approved or not.
i put mine under water quite a few times (fresh water) never an issue. be certain your flaps are closed 'n stuff
i even showered with it for the heck of it
Update:
It seems like I will get a new Z1 Compact, as the servivce status has been changed to:

I've had my G3 for about a week now and I absolutely love the device. I'd like to have a discussion about build quality of the device since there's some things I've noticed with my 32gb D855 model that I'm wondering if others have had also.
1) The digitizer is quite noticeable, I guess my eyes have adjusted a bit now but it is there and quite noticeable when I pay attention
2) The back plate is screaming poor quality: it is very creaky near the top above the infrared and also around the volume down key you can really press the device and hear it creaking like a Samsung device
3) Unfortunately after caring for it with my life somehow the back cover got a huge scratch..I don't possibly know from what..a fleck of dust in the air or Something but still this shouldn't have gotten such an ugly huge scratch so easily!
4) Dust/sand or dirt is easily getting into the bezels right where the screen ends
5) As mentioned in another thread I've had the spontaneous shut down but let's not delve into that on this thread

Just got mine yesterday but #2 is not an issue for me. The back is very solid and doesn't have any flex at all. I am going to put a slim case on mine though and I already have a tempered glass screen shield.
Well, mine seems pretty solid so far (got mine on Monday), the only thing from your list i noticed as well is the dust at the bezel, but it's not really in the bezel, it's just sticking at the edges, because the bezel is slightly higher than the screen, that's a bit annoying, but not really bad, because it can be easily swiped away. Except of that, I'm pretty pleased with the build quality so far, looks and feels premium, just the back doesn't feel that slick, because of the plastic, but it's still not bad at all.
Oh, and the back buttons are slightly too hard to push, but that's also not a big deal.
So, great device, I'm a happy owner^^

Do we have the same device?
1: I can barely see the digitizer unless i shine a bright light into the screen.
2: the back cover on mine fits perfectly, to the millimeter. The only creaking i hear is if i try to twist the device at either end which is acceptable as its a removable cover so should have some give.
3: that is unfortunate
4: Is this not normal of all phones. They all have a small gap between the glass and phone body. its hard to avoid, but not very big on the G3.
5: ive not had this issue fortunately.
Ive found the build quality to be very good. everything fits very nicely. and its a big step up in quality from the nexus 5 which already had a decent build quality.
Had mine for 6 days, comparing this to say an s4 or s5 is like comparing a Citroen 2CV against a Ferrari, the difference is immense in terms of both looks, build quality and feel. Loving it ?
Just got mine an hour ago. I'm coming from an S4. This phone feels cheap in comparison. I'm not sure if I'll get used to not having the true black that one gets with an AMOLED screen. But hey, it's only been an hour.

It really is a big difference between AMOLED and IPS screens. There completely different technologies, keep in mind though the IPS screen is more closer to every other screen you look at every day so its not like you dont use them already.

Can't. Imported it.

It really is a big difference between AMOLED and IPS screens. There completely different technologies, keep in mind though the IPS screen is more closer to every other screen you look at every day so its not like you dont use them already.

Just got mine an hour ago. I'm coming from an S4. This phone feels cheap in comparison. I'm not sure if I'll get used to not having the true black that one gets with an AMOLED screen. But hey, it's only been an hour.[emoji481]

Is that sarcasm? Lol
Hey xda,
I received my device yesterday finally.
After all those good and also bad reviews I was still happy to get my OP5. Right now I'm astonished by the performance of this device. The camera is fine I don't see a point in arguing it's bad. It's not.
I use my 5 for 24hrs now and I didn't need to start my computer once because I needed more power or anything. I love it. However I still have a few concerns, which I haven't seen being mentioned anywhere here yet.
First, my volume key is rattling, it's not tight. I can slightly move it with my finger (about 0.3mm). It's not a huge problem but my 3 year old HTC m8 never had this problem, even though I dropped it a hundred times and also having very similar body and keys.
Second the aluminum/metal frame around the cameralens and the glas is already loosing its color. I mean I put this phone in my pocket twice. There's has never been huge force on this part yet. The most of the time I just leave it at home on a table on a microfiber cloth and still the color is already flaking of.
Do you have similar/the same problems? I think about contacting the support.
Thank you in advance.
Here is a picture of what I'm talking about.
Yeah, that seems like a warranty issue to me. I'd be contacting OP about it.
Or just scrape off the rest of the black paint on the camera housing - free and cheap chrome bling!
If that is genuinely just in your pocket with nothing else touching the device (e.g. keys/coins) then definitely a warranty issue, could it be the stud/rivet on a pair of jeans as you slide it in/out? My volume button has no perceptible play in it.

Yeah I would have done this if my device was a year old or even a half and this happens, but not after 24hrs. I rather contact the support.

Thank you for your reply. I think I will return it then, if this was a problem to everyone I would have just lived with it.
Do you mean the dent on the upper part of the camera frame, in the middle? I think that's intentional for whatever reason.

Good to know, just knew it was intentional.

I had this out of the box .. not sure what to do since i have a feeling this will happen over time regardless.
Mine arrived with scratches on the camera bezel. Most noticeable is on the top of the bezel, in the middle, where there is an indentation for the NFC Antenna. It seems this is very common based on thread on OnePlus's own forums.
I first opened this thread, and an admin closed is saying it is normal - this is unacceptable:
https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/solved-oneplus-5-came-scratched-what-to-do.554823/
I then opened this thread, which allowed for proper discussion:
https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/...the-scratches-my-new-op5-arrived-with.555362/
And then someone linked to this thread, where others have the same issue:
https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/etched-line-on-top-edge-of-rear-camera-glass.553906/
My phone also came with scratches on the right side of the camera bezel.
OnePlus has opened an RMA ticket for replacement - I have to send it to Acer to inspect to determine if it is worth of a replacement.
Here is the kicker... I have to pay for the shipping! I should not be out of pocket for a manufacturing defect. I need to call in and see what they are willing to do.

Thanks for your reply, didn't see it earlier. Here in Europe you don't have to pay for your warranty in the first 2 weeks after buying at all, it's a law. Sucks you have to pay. However I contacted the support and got a return ticket for a repair. But after hearing that the jelly screen is 'normal' and won't be fixed (can't be), I canceled my repair ticket and went for a return ticket. I'm really pissed - I paid 570 Euros for a cheaply build Device. I mean it's fast and camera is great, sure. But the build quality is really underwhelming.
And after thinking about all this for a bit I'm pretty sure my device was broken even before I got it, I probably just didn't noticed it when I unboxed it.
