Hey all, I know this a long shot but I am looking for someone who could possibly lend a bit of their time to share some knowledge. No, I am not looking for a custom firmware for my device because none exists. What I am hoping for is a sanity check and maybe a nudge in the right direction. I have spent countless hours trolling translated 4PDA posts. While I am certainly no developer, I do like to poke around in files and learn what I can. I understand all the risks and consequences.
Wanted to verify if root can be obtained by patching the boot image with Magisk. Not looking to do anything crazy but I am trying to make some small edits to how Steering Wheel commands work. My unit uses the canbus decoder to handle several features including SWC. I found that with the canbus, SWC could not be mapped using the built in app. I found the wiring info for my vehicle and rewired SWC from canbus to the KEY1 and KEY2 wires on the head unit. This allows me to now program my wheel buttons and even set long presses, yay. The one thing that does not work is mapping the voice button to launch Google Assistant or similar. Canbus mapping was weak and had duplicate functions like making the voice button a second mute button, lame. I also want to start learning how to modify the OEM apps like Radio, Music, BT, etc. So enter my need for root permissions.
I do have a copy of some firmware files for this device that were provided as hotfix for people having boot issues. I was able to merge the Android files into the System.img file using CMD but no luck figuring out how to decrypt the boot img file. The last file I believe is the MCU file. Kaier Tool seems unavailable from every link I've tried(edit: found what i was looking for and am now much closer). Some of these Russian links are straight up bogus as well...
Anyways, here is the system info page for my device and a link to the firmware files. Now I should add that I may not actually flash these files to my device but someone with a damaged unit may volunteer to test it out. I like my stuff working. I just kind of want to go through the motions and see whats up. I appreciate any help someone is willing to offer. At the very least maybe these files can assist someone else as the firmware for these devices is not easily obtained (Please do not flash them to your device and hope it will work, it won't). Again, I am looking to learn, so this will be an ongoing process for me. Thanks!
EDIT: I did obtain Root. See post https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=83963285&postcount=17

thanks
The firmware files, it is based on Android 8.1 or Android 9 ?
This looks exactly like my Ownice K6, same firmware layout, almost same firmware name, you will prob find you can even run Ownice firmware
Check out my thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...its/ownice-k6-c960-android-head-unit-t4085239
On there is a link to the kaier support tool that will decrypt your boot image
Can you go into more detail on what you did with your swc buttons to get them working?
Wiring and swc issues
Hi there,
I hope you can kindly help me with this head unit.
I'm from Germany and own a Toyota Hilux VIII (2016 Model, GUN125).
From Australia I brought an Android radio.
Mine is a sp9853i_1h10_vmm (according to Android system information).
MCU version is Ts9.4.3-133-300-C03681-200514
My problem is now, that some things don't work like expected. And I don't know where to find any help.
For example music information is not shown on the car's multi-information-display.
And the wiring harness has one connector for which I don't have a corresponding connector on vehicle side.
Some pins inside the connectors seem to be in wrong position.
From my point of view, the cars sold in Australia have a slighty different wiring compared to the european ones.
What I already did is to re-pin one of the can bus decoder connectors, so that the can bus high/low matches the vehicle side.
But still I get no music/navi info on the multi-information-display of my car.
And, of course, I have the same issue with remapping of swc keys.
So I would be glad about any information regarding wiring, or known wiring issues with these head units.
And @RabbidHampster:
How did you re-wire the swc?
Tanks a lot
Michael

Key 1 and Key 2 will depend on your Head Unit. On my unit they were two loose wires. Orange and Orange/White. I studied wiring diagrams of my vehicle to find the correct wires on the vehicle side.

I don't know if these units can send info back to vehicle displays. Never seen it personally. I got the "voice" SWC option to finally work after reflashing the firmware. Apparently there were several revisions but they didn't bother updating the system version on my unit.
So I came up with this back in Feb but never followed up because I got busy. It does work for Root.
If your stock firmware doesn't have 4192eb4c-c1fc-11e8-8f83-a7a51df1443b then my posted firmware probably wont work for you. Ownice/Allwinner has some similar units.
Steps for MY Head Unit (no guarantees for anyone else):
The file 4192eb4c-c1fc-11e8-8f83-a7a51df1443b in the firmware is the encrypted boot.img
Decrypt 4192eb4c-c1fc-11e8-8f83-a7a51df1443b using Kaier tool.
Use Magisk on the Ts9 unit to patch the boot.img
Encrypt patched boot.img using Kaier tool save as 4192eb4c-c1fc-11e8-8f83-a7a51df1443b
Put 4192eb4c-c1fc-11e8-8f83-a7a51df1443b on fat32 usb and update unit

Hey everyone!
I ported the latest Firefox OS 2.1 build to ZTE Open (1st gen)
This build also includes my updates (modUI) for the homescreen and browser which are listed below.
This build runs a lot smoother than previous updates that I tried.
You should be able to update if you have FFOS v1.1 (or older) installed and have fastboot available, but make sure you back up your device anyway!
This build is also available for ZTE Open C - FFOS for zte open c
My updates to the build
- Made stock icons more consistent, changed the layout a bit.
- Removed background from the search bar on the top of the screen (I think it is ugly).
- Applied the font fix to get Fira Sans back
- Made the address bar appear when you start scrolling to the top - no more scrolling to the very top of the page to access it!
- Added "Duck Duck Go" to the search engines (you can change them in browser settings)
- Added Google suggestions to the browser address bar 'as-you-type'
[UPDATE]
I updated the build, technically its not 2.1 anymore, mozilla moved to 2.2
Here is a list of the changes I made to this build:
- Added a button to lock orientation to the swipe screen
- Changed layout of the swipe screen a bit
- Long tap on shift for capslock
- Added a button to close all applications in the task manager
- Other small updates to styling
(Also added French keyboard)
Mozilla added copy - paste for text fields! also available in this build (probably not stable yet)
This build also includes many updates from mozilla such as the new browser they're building (browser2 on homescreen)
Keyboards in this build
English
Spanish
German
French
Russian (cyrillic)
Download
ZTE-Open-21-modUI.zip on Google Drive (Updated 09.09.2014)
Installation instruction
Make sure to backup your data!
You'll also need adb and fastboot installed.
Download zip and extract to local machine
Open the extracted folder in console and type:
1) adb devices #(should list your device)
2) adb reboot bootloader
3) fastboot erase cache #(if this just reboots your device - try again from step 2)
4) fastboot erase system
5) fastboot erase userdata
6) fastboot flash cache ramdisk.img
7) fastboot flash system system.img
8) fastboot flash userdata userdata.img
9) fastboot flash boot boot.img
10) fastboot reboot
Your phone should reboot at this point (usually takes 1-2minutes) and you can enjoy latest 2.1
GitHub
I also decided to ublish my branch on github: https://github.com/YemSalat/gaia-modui feel free to fork and contribute or port to other phones.
I am currently learning Gaia architecture as I'm making changes, so some of them are a bit 'hacky', but I try to follow the conventions and prefix my stuff (css/functions/etc.) with 'modui'
Let me know what you think!

US, phone flashed with ZTE_US update to v1.1 from v1.0. Used your boot.img and my ramdisk/userdata/system img, yielded stably working, but no GPS as always.
Support?
Big Thanks!
Question 1: Are you planning to keep this ROM update with patches and some enhancements in the Future?
Question 2: Any fix for Proximity sensor during on-going Call?
Thanks again!
I updated the build.
- I changed the GPS server in the config - will hopefully work for you now if it didn't before.
- Merged mozilla's updates from yesterday.
I'll release the same build for Open C later today as well.

Sorry, my previous comment was probably a bit misleading.
I don't think the boot.img has anything to do with the GPS, its mostly the settings inside system.img.
I just updated the build and added US servers for GPS, also changed the main geolocation provider to Nokias.
Could you please flash my build and test it again? Also, make sure you test outdoors, and also download the app called 'gps callibration' from marketplace and see if it can get your lat/long.

Yes, I'm planning to keep it updated, every week hopefully (btw, just uploaded a new update, nothing new - mostly bug fixes) Plus I also have a list of things that I want to improve myself, let me know if you have any suggestions as well.
I haven't looked into the proximity sensor, but I'll be checking if it does get fixed in later updates.

Hm, never happened to me, I regularly type in a foreign language. Are you sure you're not accidentally pressing the key to the left of 'space' ? When you add a foreign keyboard the comma that is usually there gets replaced by the 'change language' key.

So I'm going to wait until there's some rom for the open 2?
It's not that bad, I bought it a week ago, when the Firefox OS phones arrived to my country, and I was curious about it. I having some trouble with the brightness (I set it at the lowest, then I turn the screen off and when I turn back on it resets the brightness to the highest) but the performance is good.

you can always try and build your own ROM, it's not that hard. look up on the Mozilla developer network on how to set up a build environment and the relevant info for the Open 2.
the Open C is much better supported, as you can see here, but in general the ZTE devices seem to have a very short lifetime, as ZTE doesn't give a damn about supporting them. thats als why i stopped working on FFOS, since there is really no reliable device with future updates (except maybe the Flame which is simply way too expensive for what you get)
A small update - I am merging and testing new releases of the 2.1 branch every other day and it seems to become really nice to use.
However mozilla removed the default browser from the build and only kept the new one, I think I will keep it in my build until the new one becomes more usable (tabs!)
As I said in the other topic I have made a few more updates myself:
- added orientation lock to swipe panel
- changed the layout of swipe panel a bit
- restored default browser
Currently testing:
- long tap on shift for capslock
Will release soon, once its a bit more polished.
I also want to release my branch on Github so other people can contribute as well, I'll do that once I clean it up a bit.

As linr76 pointed out it will probably fail due to different hardware on the devices.
I mean you can always try, but I bear no responsibility if you brick it. Plus you'll need to jailbreak it first and I'm not sure if there are any 'official' ways for open 2.

I doubt we'll ever see another update for the C from ZTE
And thanks again for your work, at least we'll now have future releases of gaia 2.x guaranteed to work on the open (hopefully)
I was wondering could you by any chance decibe the process of adapting the boot image? What are the main issues with it?
Id like this thread to assist in identifying individual Android Powered Head Units. It would be helpful if you can add what device you own in a similar fashion to below. I believe it may assist in the 'Can I install this on my device?' posts.
My unit is:
Eonon G2110F (http://www.eonon.com/Android-Car-GPS/2-Din-GPS-Navigation/G2110F.html)
MTCB - KLD2 - RK3188 - 800x480 - 4.4.4
I have updated to MTCC-KLD6-2.96-5.1.1, it can be updated using ROMS from the MTCB thread.
Please post something similar of your devices.
good idea
My unit is:
Joying - JY-JL001 - https://www.amazon.com/Challenger-W...F8&qid=1475161690&sr=8-1&keywords=jeep+joying
MTCD - RK3188 - 800x480 - 5.1.1
I updated to Malaysk V4 for MTCD, but have since gone back to the mid-August Joying update
Thanks mate,
this doesnt really work if no one posts their unit details.

I looked at the links that you gave. They do not contain the firmware that you had (5.3.16-22-B0-E50201-150818)
I have a question. Where did you get the firmware 5.3.17-22-12-E50201-150926? Can you give it?

Ive got it from here https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...s/how-to-update-quadcore-r16-tonghai-t3635779 (nosidefcp thread Final FW recomended with root included) https://yadi.sk/d/suOSRwtd3KSbw4
About 5.3.16-22-B0-E50201-150818 it was in my HU as I bought it, never made any changes until firmware update 5.1.1 (I dont know if the italian seller changed the original MCU firmware before sell it)
About decoder of the can-bus picture, the HU is not dismounted but I still have other cables in the HU box:

Did you update yourself?
In the links to the update to android 6 there are no firmware that contains firmware MCU.
I can not understand at what moment the mcu firmware changed.
Can bus decoder look like this
Can you ask the seller for a mcu firmware 5.3.16-22-B0-E50201-150818?

As far as I know, if you have a cab bus decoder, then the information about the button press comes from the can bus through the decoder. Then the main role is played by the firmware MCU, which now does not correspond to the model of auto.

Hi try with this software from JUNSUN it helped my device, we have simialr ones.
Download firmware from comment area in video and update device.
Then , when updated , go to factory menu with pin code 8888 and adjust settings for device (RADIO MENU , OTHER, DISPLAY and TOUCH STUDY/CANBUS - these two menus - if you must make steering wheel command s to work.).
FOR RADIO MENU :
- if radio.app is stalling or freezes - set OSCILACION to 9,20, FM and AM sense to 21-27, RDS ON, IC TYPE is your chip of radio (do not change that as these if wrong will freeze radio and commands), SORT is RADIO FREQ
- if radio freezes after bootup and wont response at all - try this app :
(just download file and transfer to device, then get in APK installer and install radio from this apk file)

There is no need to extract anything, firmware is somewhere on this forum or somewhere on clouds services , we just have to find it on net.
Look there for upgrades : https://disk.yandex.ru/d/umCvHqCDzHccr/RockChip PX5 Android 8.0/XRC
From and by this pic inaside this folder your device has maybe XRC not CHS type of firmware, now just we can try to find software that matches UI4 dated year 2019 or early 2020 on the net.

Hello all!
Bought the device on Aliexpress, Chinese firm OSSURET. ( https://aliexpress.ru/item/40012012...007.778871469.1666007501-279692570.1616349752 )

Model Number : AD8XBMWE53T001
It looked nice and worked, until the sim card was installed, after installing the device began to reboot by itself.
Also noticed that the processor heated up to 80-90 degrees Celsius.
And the displacement of the notification item.

Steering wheel control does not depend on the firmware, there are important Can-recorder and the type of CAN which is selected in the Engineer Menu (password to enter 8788)

Hi! Used flash drives with different capacities 4 and 8, also unpacked the archive to a flash drive in Fat32 (so that all the firmware files are in the root)
with the turned off boombox connect the flash drive (Required to be included OEM Launcher, not a third-party)
After powering on your boombox, it will ask you if you want to update the firmware or not. 5 seconds are given to answer the question.
Send a screenshot of the data on the flash drive

Ok, it was a matter of finding a compatible USB drive. I don't know why, some drives work, some others don't.
My unit uses that same ROM, but it's a 5 series F11. Even if some diagnosis apps tell it's an octa-core with 6GB RAM, it feels so much slower than a phone with similar capacity. PlayStore apps take ages to install, Google Maps needs like a minute until it's responsive. And every time the car is turn off for more than 5 minutes, the HU has to boot from zero, so it's a long wait until it can be used.
Until now, the seller has been unable to improve this situation. They sent me this same ROM (8259P_宝马UI02v1920x720-国外_v68_20221009.zip) but I don't feel any improvement.
Hello
If somebody interested I received this update not tested by me in the moment also posting pic of my actual version in the unit and UI

If somebody will test it let me know how is running and post also some pictures from UI

Hello all!
Bought the device on Aliexpress, Chinese firm OSSURET. ( https://aliexpress.ru/item/40012012...007.778871469.1666007501-279692570.1616349752 )
8Core 4GB Ram 64gb ROM
assembly number : full_825X_Pro-Octa 11 PPR1.180610.011 eng.root.2020426.093427 test-keys
Model Number : AD8XBMWE53T001
It looked nice and worked, until the sim card was installed, after installing the device began to reboot by itself.
Also noticed that the processor heated up to 80-90 degrees Celsius.
And the displacement of the notification item.

After talking to the seller I received from him the firmware, but with the wrong screen resolution (1280x480) and not very nice interface for me, the elements and the font have become very large, that in some applications buttons are not placed.

A couple of weeks later the seller sent me another firmware, after installing it in the device, I received a black screen, and the inability to turn off the boombox (turn the ignition off did not help)

I rolled back to the firmware 1280x480 to somehow use the device.
Looking for your help in firmware for the radio, can someone already experienced and got the correct and working firmware?
I tried to change the screen resolution in build.prop (but there are only two lines which are responsible for Car Play - Video Resolution)
The seller said that the latest firmware 8259P_宝马UI02v1920x720-国外11_v6_20210607 ie 2021, but I received it with firmware 2022, as I do not understand
