Hello,
I have a short question: Do you experience any issues like freezing and restarts on your Tegra Note 7 after deactivating flight mode?
Because my Tegra Note 7 renders unusable for minutes most times after deactivating flight mode (and establishing the Internet connection). It reduces performance which makes the device unusable and makes it appear freezed. Sometimes it even restarts itself. That behavior doesn not occur when Google Play Services is disabled. So I guess it has something to do with all the Google-related background tasks it runs.
I just want to know if some other devices behave like this or mine is broken for some reason. Then I would just replace Google Play Services with microG. I already tried it, it works and makes the device usable again although it lacks some features.
My kid installed games and stuff on it but all of a sudden it get hot when on charge and drains battery insted of charging it.
I have a feeling a factory reset may be in order soon.

Certainly sorted out my Tegra Note which was totally screwed by the 5.1 update.

Hello everbody,
bought 2 weeks ago the Nexus 4 16GB and I'm very happy with it.
But i have the problem, that the device restarts when it is under load, means i play or watch something what needs
the full power of the CPU and GPU.
It happens a lot when i play Iron Man 3 The Official Game or Dead Trigger.
Than the device freezes, can't kill the app or even lock the screen and after 10~ seconds it reboots itself.
Active Wifi, Bluetooth, 3G or not doesn't make any difference.
The only strange thing is, what i discovered after a few crashes, is that the battery gauge stands still before the crash and after the reboot the gauge drops to it assumed level.
Screenshot as attachment.
System: Android 4.3 Stock (with this last mini patch from last week)
Does anyone have a idea how i can fix this?
I tried, to charge the battery while android is off and to turn android at 100% on, but this doesn't help.
Sincerely,
GTrash81

Did you undervolt the CPU?
If this is happening without rooting/etc... then I would definitely get a replacement. It sounds like the processor is overheating and causing a reboot rather than throttling.
Today i checked if the device is getting too hot.
But after 2 minutes playing Iron Man, by 9°C outside (i was on the way to the city, waiting for the train), it rebooted.
So i started the game, deactivated the display and put it on the table. After 4 hours i checked the game and played over 10 minutes without a crash.
So what i think is, that these two don't like Trim (most new feature with 4.3) or the are badly programmed and must reload/refresh objects while playing and Trim must work to clear temporary files.
And they are badly programmed, because i red at the developers page, that a few other people have the same problems.
So excuse me for wasting your time. But hey, to err is human.

After using Galaxy S4 (I9500GT) for almost an year with lollipop, I recently shifted to Note 3 (SM-N9000). As S4 was a perfect companion performance wise, even in Power-Saver, I was expecting Note 3 be atleast the same if not better. However, I am facing a few issues mentioned below:
In Multiwindow mode, the video sometimes lag when I focus on other application. Then I need to restart the phone.
Sometimes while in fullscreen, with no heavy app in background (I play no Asphalt or Modern Warfare), my video starts lagging heavily.
Sometimes there is a slight Audio/Video sync issue.
I do not know what to do. Power-Saver turned off-on-off several times, no positive results.
The same never happened in my S4
NOTE:
I keep on changing ROMs, but I always clear everything and this happened on stock which I flashed through ODIN with "Erase NAND" enabled. So this is always a fresh install.
Please help
Also guide me on one thing. As I have used Samsung for years, I now know which apps to safely disable. On TouchWiz-Lolly, I disable almost 50 apps on my Note 3(like I used to do on my S4). So it is quite lag-free overall(except videos). Now I am getting a SoT of around 6.5-7.5 hours with 30-50% brightness. Disable every useless TouchWiz feature like sensors
I do not use location frequently, and keep switching between WiFi and 2G(Yes, 2G).
Is this battery performance decent, or do I need any more tweaks?
Thank You So Much For Reading
I use nova launcher, its way faster then stock samsuck.
Disable all animation, they add lag.
Video-Use MXplayer with hard acc ON, and same for bsplayer.
Regarding app , you mean unckeck from startup( like msconfig on PC) or disabled from ALL/APP?
From all/app disable only crappware like: yahoo new, bloomberg or something.
On startup app you need to unckeck them, with android tuner. Disable all games, and apps that do not need them in memory ram.
Even my tegra 2 asus sl101 tablet get some lag on video , but with hardware acc ON is quite ok.
My n9005 with lollipop is identical with wife n9005( 4.3 android) except one: lollipop start videos faster, in any video app.
Disabled from All Apps
Since the Oreo update the performance of my Nvidia Shield has gone down the toilet. Initially the UI was very sluggish. That seems to have improved a bit although it's still nowhere near as fast and responsive as it was on Nougat. But now the slow loading time of apps is starting to drive me crazy. When I click to open an app like Amazon Prime Video it takes 5-10 seconds for the app to open and then another 5-10 seconds for the home screen to populate with content. Before the update everything was pretty much instant. Is there a way to improve Shield performance after this terrible update? I already did a factory reset and it didn't help.

Same observation for me
I contacted Nvidia support via live chat. They said they would get back to me via email but since this doesn't seem to be an uncommon problem that probably means there's no fix.
Maybe a little of topic. /rant
I wouldn't say mine has been sluggish, but I've been having plenty of problems.
Anytime I tell one of my GH devices to do something on the shield they blink and then give no response. Even in My Activity logs for Home there is nothing in response to my commands.
Starting to really irritate me, I'm about done with Google Home and it's only been a week. Maybe HomeKit won't be so buggy (oh no! Apple :silly. Trying to convince my wife to buy into smart home stuff, and Google is managing to make it seem nothing short of a stupid gimmick. Doesn't do what it should more than half the time.
"Ok, Google, skip the track that's playing."
"Okay, but please try again and specify the device."
"Okay, Google. Skip the track that is currently playing on Spotify on the Shield."
...
...
...
Nothing, not even in activity logs.
Assistant OSD won't go away until I press back or tell google to "go away."
I had to reinstall Spotify today because it wouldn't load ("error" on Spotify start screen), even after reboots.
I just got this thing and have no experience with pre-oreo Shield, but it isn't difficult to understand why so many people are upset.
Might be driving to Best Buy buy the end of the week.
Here I thought my FireTV 2 was being a pita.
I did another factory reset. I did the 2 hour version before going to bed so the Shield would be powered on overnight in case it needed to do some background optimization. It took me hours to set up everything again and the end result was no improvement at all. My Shield Pro is still laggy and slow to respond to commands and might actually be worse now than it was before the factory reset. I've read the cheaper 16GB model is not experiencing this issue so at this point I really regret spending the extra money on the pro model. It's very frustrating to have a $300 streaming box that's barely a year old get completely trashed by an official software update.

The 16Gb version also lags after Oreo update
Performance improved after the second factory reset but it seemed to take a day to settle down. It's still not as smooth and responsive as before the update but it's also no longer maddening to use. I had a bunch of Plex crashes after the second factory reset but it seems like that might have stopped. I had a half dozen crashes over the first day and a half but so far none since then.
Oreo is faster than Nougat on phones so I don't understand why the opposite is true on Android TV. People are reporting problems on other Android boxes that got the Oreo update as well so this apparently isn't just a Nvidia issue.
Performance got so bad I ended up doing a third factory reset. After the third one everything is fast and responsive. Not sure why the first two factory resets didn't fix things. This time the only app I downloaded was Emby so maybe an app I downloaded previously was causing problems.
post 7.2 USB and app issues
i have the 2nd gen 16G version of the nvidia shield. i took the 7.2 experience upgrade and i am having lots of troubles:
my external USB hard drive just keeps scanning and never reachable
not able to start up many apps that did rely on that external storage
I have rebooted several times with no effect
i have also tried unplugging everything and then restarting them in order.
I have avoided so far a factory reset or forgetting the USB storage as those are a bit nuclear, but if there is no other option I must since most of my games and Kodi relied on teh USB and they are unusable (I did uninstall Kodi and attempt to reinstall) at bootup of Kodi, it still says "waiting for external drive.
I may have discovered a way to make Shield Tablet very smooth and stable very consistently. I don't have the technical backing for it - im just a regular user doing trial and error. I hope it helps the others who want to keep this awesome Device live up to its potential...longer.
So here's my Device setup:
- Shield Tablet US-LTE
- using stock 5.4 debloated for K1 by Sh0X31 for K1 (yes, it works well with my us-lte as long as you don't care about system updates and stylus app)
- rooted via magisk
- Xposed framework
- Nova launcher
Using the ROM as it is significantly improved the performance of the device compared to stock 5.4 for US or RoW LTE. But the sluggish experience Everytime the device wakes up from deep slumber, or connects to WIFI for the first time, is still there. Using Antutu system monitor on the notification panel, I could correlate the sluggish performance with the CPU hitting above 94%. That happens 99% of the time so I suspected that most of the persistent sluggish performance is a CPU issue rather than a RAM issue. So I looked for a way to pinpoint which apps are hogging CPU operations, and hopefully discover what triggers it.
I tried enabling CPU usage in Developer's Options but alas, it could only show com.android.systemui so nothing much can be done from there. I understand this is a bug in Android 7 and it was supposed to be fixed on 7.1 but we all know Shield Tablet is stuck at 7.0 for now.
Next I tried checking out Running Services, still in Developer's Option. So I saw a lot of apps there that seem to be hogging CPU - Malwarebytes, ShareIt, Antutu, Google Services, etc. I uninstalled Malwarebytes and ShareIt but the CPU was still operating at 94% and it takes the device a few seconds to respond to my inputs.
Finally, I noticed these Nvidia-specific processes - these few KBs of operations particularly the ones for OTA upgrade and Media as well as Nvidia -customize (something like that). I forced them to stop and voila! My device CPU suddenly calmed somewhere between 30-50% and as expected, it's operating smoothly and snappily.
When I rebooted, those Nvidia processes naturally became active. I suspect that it's probably part of the device startup process. And as expected as well, whenever they're present the device is expected to go sluggish at some point before its CPU can calm down again.
So now, it's been 2 days and my CPU operates between 18-54% on normal operation, sometimes hitting 80% when I transfer files or play games. But it has NEVER gone sluggish, not even once (waking from deep slumber, connecting to WIFI, etc). I'm very satisfied and back to enjoying my Shield Tablet.
DISCLAIMER: I don't have proof that this is indeed the solution. I can't explain it technically as well. Hoping someone with more knowledge on system process can enlighten us. One thing I'm convinced though is that the sluggishness we all experience comes from NVIDIA-specific processes. I make this inference from my observation that having AOSP ROMs make the device smooth consistently. But I don't like any other custom ROMs coz I need the controller support for the tablet. I hope I make sense and hopefully this could help some Shield Tablet Fans. Sorry for the long write up.
Thanks for the post! If you want to try and dig deeper into this, consider using Tasker, I believe it can be used to make those force stops automatic on start up. Good luck!

Thanks for the TIP. I've checked it out in Google Play, the paid version listed what it can do. Need to study if it can disable those mentioned process at startup.
I really wished Nvidia would finally make it's firmware documentation open to the public.
I had the latest OEM rom. I've installed the custom Lineage OS 18 rom listed here. The OEM ran 'better' but still not well, even after a full wipe. Really only want to use the tablet for Plex. With all apps disabled that can be disabled, the CPU stays maxed. Clicking something takes seconds for the OS to respond. Bluetooth regularly crashes. I tried installing the YouTube app since Plex was super-choppy, and it literally took 10+ minutes to install. Being that the tablet runs like a complete turd with fresh wipes/installs, I'm thinking there's some sort of hardware fault.
Before I give up on it, any suggestions? I literally only want it for watching Plex or YouTube, but it can't even handle that as-is.
Maybe it could be that the eMMC is gone for a toss and some error correction is in process that causing CPU Load to go 100%? Not really sure here.
I have the same issue. I would think old age makes emmc veeeeery slow. Same thing happened with my old Nexus 4. I am using the tablet as wall tablet with Home Assistant opened in a full screen browser and still is verry sluggish. What seems to make things a bit better is using memory trim software.
Any trim software you recommend?
I ended up just buying a Galaxy Tab S8+, but if I can get some life out of the Nexus 10 that would be great too...
