[Help] 2017 Nvidia Shield 720P Only & No HDCP - Shield Android TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My 2017 shield is only outputting 720P.I have tried different HDMI cables and a different TV.Before it was working on my 1080p TV until I took it to a diffenet house and it got stuck on 720p.
I have another shield in the house which works at 4k/1080p which means it's not a cable or a tv issue.
I can boot into fastboot but the text is cut off and zoomed in.Also the boot Nvidia logo has a black sqaure around it on the 4k tv.
I'm only trying to achieve 1080P. It was working perfectly fine before.
Any suggestions???

HDMI overscan

The transformer is doing some clipping overscan in each TV or monitor that I try. It removes nearly 40 pixels in each side. For example menus doesn't look complete in programs, videos are cut etc. Is possible to avoid this?
Set your monitor to 1:1 pixel mapping.
Each monitor have different options for ajusting HDMI screen but in the 3 monitors that I have tried none make disappear the problem: a IIyama computer monitor with HDMI imput, a Pioneer plasma screen and a Sony LCD tv.
I suppose that there is nothing in the transformer to modify these settings.
Not that I have found, and that's very odd, since my HDMI works fine on 5 different monitors/televisions.
Have you tried a factory reset? Or flashing a custom ROM?
yes, I have reset to factory etc
I thought that this was a normal issue
I had to set -1 for overscan, it is normal. If your TV doesn't let you set overscan/underscan good luck.

Anyone having trouble with HDMI output? ....need help

Sent from my A500 using XDA Premium App
well, you don't say what happens, but here's what I did:
10 foot micro to normal hdmi cable.
Plugged it into the tablet. Plugged the other into the TV. Turned on the TV.
Works great! Btw, the bottom bar with the buttons and clock do not show on the TV (by design.)
I have 2 and both have issues if your holding the tablet with HDMI plugged in. It seems the port is a bit weak and so laying it down is the best way for them to work.
Me too
I can't get anything to show on my Panasonic 720P Plasma. Would the native resolution of the TV be a factor?
I've tried 3 different cables, tried jiggling the connections...the micro HDMI does seem to wiggle a little bit...almost like it's a little loose
I bought a cheap cable off ebay, plugged it in, selected HDMI input on the TV and it works perfectly.
Mine is a rooted stock 3.1 but it also worked prior to the 3.1 upgrade.
I thought the same first time I tried.
Turned out to be cable. Got another and that was fine. Worked first time.
Got a replacement for the original and managed to break that on the first go.
To paraphrase Archimedes, Give me a HDMI port small enough and I will break it.
It only takes a litttttle bit of vertical jiggling and it snaps the end off.

Same here, used micro to hdmi cable included in my Motorola Droid X (in Mexico it's called Motoroi X).
Works nice, it mirrors all but bottom bar and not only by desing but also screen is 800px tall and 720p well... 720px tall, so bar is hidden wich is perfect BUT:
Youtube app ROCKS in HDMI, you see the video in your big screen but you see complete layout in your tab, comments, relared videos, video playing in mini mode etc. but I found that sometimes doesn't work (very rare), also flash sometimes works nice and sometimes it kicks you in the balls.

MK809 on Finless 1.7 HDMI output problem

I've got an Mk809 that I installed the Finless 1.7 ROM on and it was working just fine until my brother changed the HDMI output in the settings from 720p to 1080p. When he changed it the screen went black. When it powers up I get the boot screen then it goes black again and the tv says there is an unsupported signal.. Is there a fix for this? I have already tried resetting by shorting the pins.

Nexus Player will NOT wake from Sleep!

I am sure this has been discussed on here but I decided to make a new thread anyways. It's nice to get direct support. Anyways....
My Nexus player will not wake from sleep. I watch TV at night before bed. My Nexus Player is currently hooked up to my JVC 32" 1080P TV in my bedroom. So I set the sleep on my TV at night so it shuts off in 60 mins or so. When I wake up the next day, turn my TV on, I get "No Signal". I hit every button on the Nexus player remote. It will not respond. I have to unplug the power and plug it back in to get it to work again. Why will it not wake?
I really liked the Nexus Player at first. I prefer it over my previous streamers, especially being I am going for the new Nexus 5 or 6 upon release this year. I previously used an Apple TV Gen 3. I am bored with Apple and that is why I replaced my Apple TV with the Nexus player and I am replacing my iPhone 6 with a future Nexus device. All done with boring old apple. HaHa.
Any fix to the non-wake issue? What if I just Root it, Unlock the Bootloader, and install CM12? Does CM12.1 for the Nexus Player have the not wake from sleep issue? Thank you for looking!
It's more likely that the HDMI connection on the TV side has died than that the NP is still in sleep, as clicking any button on the remote will wake it. Try just replugging the HDMI cable next time to test.
Do you have HDMI-CEC on that TV, and is it enabled (it might be called something else)? In which case you could try using your TV remote instead.
The TV is brand new. Both HDMI ports work fine. I had no issues with an Apple TV or Fire TV stick. Both woke from sleep just fine even after a day or so of no use.
My TV does have CEC. I guess I could give that a shot?
Maybe I should just exchange it and see if the new one still has issues?
Sorry, I see the word "died" may have been misinterpreted. Before going through the inconvenience of getting it replaced, I'd first do as suggested: try unplugging then replugging the HDMI cable next time the connection fails to force a resync.
Another way of testing whether the NP has actually come out of sleep - even if you can't see anything displayed on your TV - is to see whether it pops up as a device to cast to from any app that supports casting - try YouTube.
Then at least you'll have more information about the root causes of your issue.
It does appear to be my TV that is the issue. When I unplug the HDMI and plug it back in the Nexus Player screen comes right on, where I had left off. Stupid JVC.... lol. I wanted a 32" TV for the bedroom that was not a smart TV and had a good picture with decent sound. I ended up buying this JVC 32" 1080P Full Array LED TV for only $200. I took a shot buying it online and I was amazed to see the display quality and hear the sound quality! I have had no issues with it at all and love it! But of COURSE there had to be something wacky on it! lol. But yeah, its the TV not the Nexus Player. I am hoping to find some kind of fix or work around for it. I have no problem unplugging the hdmi and plugging it back in but doing that non stop is not for the best in my opinion. I don't want to end up wareing out/breaking the HDMI port on my TV or Nexus Player.
I'm experiencing this same issue with my Samsung TV. Another thread suggests the solution is to disable CEC on your TV.

try changing the 'input' on your JVC tv for a few seconds, then changing it back to the nexus player's input. For ex turn TV on, switch from HDMI 1 to HDMI 2, wait 5sec then back to 1 and see if it registers the NP. Just an idea.

my 2019 fire cube does not access uhd speeds

My new 2019 cube will not access 4k on the Expanse on Amazon, which is rated for uhd, only gets 1080P. When the info button is clicked in the remote, it says "1080p hdr" in the lower left.
My old 2015 fire tv box, with the same exact wiring in the system, gets UHD, says "optimizing for uhd" as it powers up. When the info button is clicked in the remote it says "ultra uhd" in the lower left.
I bought a reconditioned fire cube through amazon, thinking it is broken. Other explanations?
