Ok so i'm running now OOS Stable 10.0 with TWRP running, and Magisk ofc.
Now, i used this guide -
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/how-to/guide-how-to-twrp-data-decryption-t3995861
To update from 9.0.17 to 10.0
But never tried to update from 10.0.
Can i update like the usual process ?
Enter Recovery > Flash ROM > Flash TWRP > Flash Magisk ?
Or i need to do it differently .
Edit : I want to update from 10.0 to OB3.

Why would it be different?
It seems complicated enough for people to catch up with only one logical method, I dare not imagine what it would be if there were different procedures....

If you do it this way make sure you update to the latest version of TWRP that was released today (3.3.1-30) before upgrading the ROM.
Open magisk manager and restore boot.img.
Update locally in system settings.
Dont reboot.
Install magisk to inactive slot in magisk manager.
Reboot and provit.
No need for twrp.

You don't need boot.img. Magisk automatically backups the original boot.img and patches it. That way you can restore it thru magisk manager. And patch the new boot.img (install to in-active slot) after local upgrade.

Well, that doesn't answer the question: why do you need TWRP?
The problem is that you ask for a recipe, without knowing clearly what you're doing when applying the recipe.
Yes you can update with local update while keeping Magisk and twrp. See first posts of OOS 10.0.1 thread in Guide section.
Yes you can update from within twrp, the way ROMs are fleshed since nearly a decade
Yes you can flash twrp with Magisk manager, since months it's a basic knowledge.
No you don't need stock boot.img
Don't follow the guide you quote WHICH WAS WRITTEN WHEN NO WORKING TWRP was available for A10. It's outdated now. Use regular and classical procedures

Alright, well then it is useful.
IMHO, i recommend using stock OOS and root only. Because it already is a great rom. You can flash certain extras with magisk manager anyway.
But whatever rows your boat

The answer is in the post you quoted:
'Yes you can flash twrp with Magisk manager, since months it's a basic knowledge"
What I did was open Magisk Manager - go to Modules - click Add (+) - select the TWRP installer (zip) - exit Magisk Manager - reboot to TWRP - reinstall Magisk.
There might be a way to reinstall Magisk from Magisk Manager to the active slot but I'm not sure so I did it through TWRP.

I've got my hands on this phone today. So I went on and unlocked bootloader and installed TWRP (with all in one tool).
But now when I want to root my phone through twrp, i can't access my files. I see the root folders, but when I go to /sdcard there are only a bunch of folder with random letters.
I don't know what's wrong. It is not asking for a password or anything.
Twrp has decryption issues currently. It's mentioned in the thread.
No need to install it yet, just boot to it.
If you're wanting to install magisk, just go into adb sideload in twrp and sideload magisk from your PC.

Thank you for your quick reply!
Is it bad that it is already flashed permanent? Or do I need to flash original recovery again?
I'll try and sideload it. Haven't done that before.

The current TWRP has decryption issues as its based on the Oreo tree and encryption/decryption works differently on pie.
Here is a post i did so follow it for easy instructions.

Nothing to worry about. You can dirty flash the latest full zip from my update thread or just wait for the next OTA as and when it comes flash the full zip that will overwrite the recovery partition to stock. For now TWRP is basically useless so i did not recommend to flash the installer instead just boot in it sideload magisk or kernel if you need to and retain stock recovery.
Feel free to ask anything if you are still in doubt :fingers-crossed:

Thanks for the info! I'll wait for an update.
When that update comes, can i just install it from the settings? Or would i have to manually download it and install it thru TWRP/sideload?
And i guess I lose root after i update so i would have to boot into twrp and install magisk again.

As and when the update comes, just let the system download and install the zip. It will auto download and install the full zip when it detects root/system modifications, just make sure you uninstall/deactivate all mods/magisk modules/ substratum overlays before you update. You can check for easy instruction on the third post of the update thread. I will update the thread as and when the OTA is released.
Also you guessed it right the update will unroot the device so you have to root it again so you can either do the same sideload way or just do it from the magisk manager - uninstall - install ota (do not reboot) - install magisk to second slot - reboot :good:
I will again update the detailed instructions for easy understanding and and when we have the update :good:
Just stay subscribed to the update thread :good:
My stock rom has a wifi problem and I want to flash a fix via twrp, but I still want to obtain ota updates. Is booting into twrp via command prompt temporary? Like once I exit twrp without flashing installer zip it would be gone, right?
Sorry, for the noob question. I'm still new to a/b devices.
Try
fastboot boot twrp (the name of your twrp-image)
I am using this all the time to uninstall / install magisk and do an OTA-update inbetween

There won't be any problems with stock pie, right?
As I need Xposed, I have not tried PIE yet.
If you are worried trying PIE, flash OREO (Nov 2018) and then do an OTA-update before rooting with TWRP and MAGISK

Is there any way to root Android 10 stable after incremental update from Android 9?
Patched boot.img breaks wifi and freezes on calls/breaks sound.
The only tool I can find seems to require not to reboot, though it is already too late for that, unless I downgrade.

Sorry but how can you root using a kernel?
Either I misunterstood the question or you did ?
Thank you for your answers but I didn't understand either...
Here's how I rooted my device.
Downloaded the update
Installed it via local upgrade
Flashed the twrp a/b retention script via magisk
Then,I installed magisk to inactive partition via magisk manager
Rebooted and the system was running perfectly with twrp and root access still there.
Note: Data in twrp will stay encrypted using this method.
Did you have root pre-instaled? Did you reboot between the first and second step? Could you please tell me where to find the a/b retention script?

I did the same as you, upgraded to Android 10 but downgraded to 9 and followed the above steps as I couldn't find a proper way to root when already on 10.
You need to have root and twrp to use this method.
Only reboot after you have flashed the script and installed magisk to the inactive slot.
You can find the script by searching on magisk manager.
Thanks! Did you downgrade with MSM tool?

Uninstall Magisk with the .zip from their site. Github here
Instal stock recovery like you did to install custom recovery.
Next, download the C.27 update and run it from the file manager. Phone will reboot and start updating
After update, just do the whole process to root C.27 version like for Android 9.

I tried several thins to install Magisk succesfully with no luck.
I received my Global x2 Pro this thursday and i successfully unlocked the bootloader and flashed twrp recovery. But when I flask the magisk 20.4 zip and reboot my device, i get an error saying that my boot / recovery partition is corrupt. I have to install C27 again from twrp and it boots up.
Can anybody help me how to install Magisk succesfully? It's driving me nuts. Also, i cant download the vbmeta.img from the OP. So i tried to extract the vbmeta.img from the c27 image to flash, but also no lucck
Edit: Finally having it working with the Orangefox recovery with the vbmeta.img. I thought that the link in OneDrive wasnt working, but it was my home networks which was blocking OneDrive. Problem solved!

It's possible if someone makes a flashable zip, though I dont know of that can be done for every phone. Otherwise you need a stock recovery to install the OTA.

Hey lads, i wanted to update to oos 11 and keep magisk root, I saw a video tutorial on how to do that but on a previous oos update.
By installing the update without rebooting and installing magisk on inactive slot after OTA.
This sadly didn't work for me so now I am stuck without root access on oos 11.
Do I need to reflash magisk boot.img again or could there be another way to enable it?
Flashing boot.img will delete all my data and apps and I would really hate installing all that again one by one manually...
Any tips on what I can do?
Thanks.

1. It didn't work, because you took the wrong magisk version. Latest canary or beta works great with A11. I did it myself without issues.
2. There is only one way to get root. Patch the boot.img and flash it.
3. And no, flashing boot.img won't delete anything!
