The best - Shield Android TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, all!
I'm looking into buying a shield tv. I'm experienced in rooting phones but never had a shield TV.
Which is the best when it comes to rooting and support? 2015, 2017 (16GB or 500GB) or 2019?
I've heard negative things about the 500GB version. I'd really like to have one with an SD card slot but my most important criteria is root support and custom roms.
Please guide me in the right direction and thank you.
Edit: Is the 2015 model too old or is it still viable in 2019/2020?

KitKat on the K1

Hi All
Does anyone know if anyone is working on KitKat for the K1? Or have we come to the end of software support for our old model? As much as I love my K1 its getting harder to get XBMC to work on it . I'm two minds at the moment to stick with my K1 (64gb memory model) or bite the bullet and get a Samsung Tablet.

Why root the shield TV.

So just received my new shield TV and have always rooted my android phones. Just wandering whats been your main reason to root this gadget please?
That's already been asked.......http://forum.xda-developers.com/shield-tv/help/whats-rooting-t3392859

Just got my 2017 nvida shield. a few questions for those with experience.

First off I'm a fire TV user and just made a big jump. I have rooted both first and second gen fire TVs.
I'd like to say I'm pretty well versed in that realm but as far as the nvidia world goes I'm a Noobs.
I do realize there is not as much need to root, but I'm sure I won't feel right without it. And from my research here it seems there is no root for the 2017 model or not a good one (correct me if I'm wrong.
What I'm looking for is a heads up. Do I need to block updates?
My main concern is I don't want to mess up and somehow end up on something that I can't reverse or downgrade and not get root. So any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Does samsung Galaxy J5 2015 support UHS-II

Hi,
I'm looking for SD card for my phone, and can find anywhere information about this. Anywhere I'm looking, I only can find information, that it support microSD 128 GB.
I guess, it means that this smartphone does NOT support it, especially that 2015 was year when faster magistral was just introduced (or was it 2014), so maybe they just didn't see reason to inform about something like this... And some new good smarphones doesn't support it either.
But it's my guess. Anyone know for sure? Does buying UHS-II SD card supposedly will make it faster, or limit is on UHS-I?
Thank you for your answers.

which nvidia shield pro device should i get?

hey everyone...new to the forum here...got a question, as my aging (and somewhat failing minix u9-h) im looking into getting a shield pro and have done a bit of research here and there, but not too sure which one i should get, maybe i can get some clarity here....gaming on it is not really a priority as the main use for it will be streaming, should i: (a) get the 15'-17' model with the hdd and mod it with an ssd? (b) get the '17 pro model with the smaller form factor and 16gb flash memory, or (c) the 19' pro model? also, if i went with the '19 model will i be able to root it and flash a custom ROM on it, or is it that much of a powerhouse its not really necessary and in doing so i may lose some features from it (ie. AI scaling)....any help in this matter will be appreciated. thank you in advance.
I have the 2017 non pro model (usb stick and HD can be used for storage) and it is great.
There is no need for custom rom's on this device.
