Hello.
Recently updated to Android 9 OTA and removed MicroSD card to backup files on PC. The handset doesn't work with MicroSd cards since then Tried different cards, formatting them exFAT on PC. The built in android formatting tool doesn't work. Starts at 20% and stays that way. When it says done it goes back to saying that SD card needs formatting. Any suggestions?

It maybe the card or the card reader. Have you can format the SD card on your computer? If it worked then it's probably the reader. You be could try vold magisk module but honestly it's probably a hardware failure rather than software issue. Maybe try to get compressed air to clean out the reader. Only other thing you could try is install the update again... Could have been install issue. So try the install again. One last thing here if the card works on computer you can use ADB push to push the apps or data onto the phone. All the info for any of this is available with a search please try to use next time it if you didn't this time. For all but ADB walkthrough just read top ten in this guide area.

I have a plain "vanilla" version of cupcake and i would like to get rosie, but i have to root my G1. The only problem is when i try to format my SD card, it automatically dismounts, or ejects it from my computer, then i mount it and try it again... and the process continues, so i came here. Anyone had this problem and/or know how to fix it?
yeah thats happening to mine right now too
but my sd card is mucked up i think
Do you have a sdcard reader and an adapter for your micro sd
if so you can plug it in and do the same process plus its more safer to do it that way
no, sadly, I do not have an SD card reader. But I am about to buy an 8GB SDHC card with a reader, so I should be able to root soon .
I know this is an old thread but I'm trying to go through the formatting process and am getting the same issue; the card automatically dismounts when I right click and select Format. I'm trying to downgrade and I found the DREAIMG.nbh file to use but when I try to run it without formatting, it's unsuccessful. Any ideas of what I could try?
hello, so after recently using WP7, I've found myself unable to use my SD Card
Windows doesn't recognize it (That sd card formatting tool that's in several stickies, DISKPART, device manager, etc.) (I've also used 2 MicroSD -> SD Card adapters in an attempt to fix)
my phone doesn't recognize it (WP7 will use it) (Magldr says it clears the MBR, and I've reinstalled WP7 in an attempt to use the sd formatting tool, but no avail, and CWM fails to recognize it)
I've also installed busy box on my phone and tried to fdisk it, I plugged a 1GB microsd card I have into the phone while in android, used 'mount' got the /dev/ location of the sdcard (/dev/block/void/179:1) and swapped cards, but it won't open the stock 16GB
any ideas XDA?

I had this Problem one time too. My Solution was to put the 16GB Mirco-SD Card inside the SD-Adapter. After that i plug this SD-Card inside my Digital-Camera ( Powershot G7 ) and make a "Deep Format". After that, everything works fine...
Maybe this helps!
Happy Christmas,
Michael
Thanks for the tip, I've tried it on one camera but it was a rather crappy one and it just froze the camera o.o
going to try with my nicer camera when I get home
--edit--
eek. tried it on a PowerShot Aesomething and it jsut said memory card error and greyed out the format button, might be time for a new card, oh well, I could go for a higher class on android since it lags my apps a bit
So about a week ago I downloaded new version of icecream tosti's ICS rom (v0.6) and booted into CWM to mount my sd card and move the zip file over. I noticed that it was taking longer time to move the file than it usually does but I let the process finish. I unmounted the card and went to install the zip from sd card but couldn't find it. I tried to move the file again and again but couldn't get it to copy the file onto the sd card. I tried moving files from the sd card onto the computer but that was not possible either. It wouldn't show me errors and complete the moving process but it actually didn't move anything. I thought there was something wrong with the sd card so I tried formatting it... no success!
I have used easues partition manager, mini tool partition manager, hp sd card utility, panasoic sd card formatter, tried formatting it through windows native options, used disk management, even tried formatting it through CWM but i kept on getting the same error, can't format. I was placing the micro sd card in a usb card reader and sd card reader in order to format it through computer. I have also tried using different computers but that didn't solve the issue. The problem is that every time I try to install a rom it reverts back to an older revision of the rom with old settings that I set before. It seems to me some how the sd card is locked in a previous state and it is write protected and won't let me format it.
Does anyone have any ideas on how I can solve my problem or does this mean the sd card is gone and I have to buy a new one?
I have exactly the same problem after using NexusHD2-ICS-4.0.3-CM9 V1.3. It seems this sd card was frozen, nothing on it can be changed. If I copy a file to it on computer, it shows copy successful, but that file cannot be read, and if refresh it shows nothing have changed in the SD card.
Anyone have any idea about this?
I have three broken micro sd cards now, two from WP7 and this one from ICS.

I waited a couple of weeks for someone to answer on this forum and tried all methods possible to format the sd card or revive it somehow but no luck so just recently purchased a new sandisk class 4 sd card hopefully this one doesn't go bad either. I just wish I knew why it was happening so I don't repeat the process again and end up damaging the card.
Have you tried to format with MAGLDR and after it on windows 7 pc ?
I did that, also followed this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1283232
Contents on this sd card just refuse to change.
is there a solution to this coz im having the same problem and cant find a way to fix this
you can do it by this software's :
HDD Low Level Format Tool
MiniTool Partition Wizard
EASEUS Partition Master
Partition Wizard Home Edition

.
but i dont know how create swap and ext4 partitions on sd .
This happen because you formatted the card on the phone. I never recommend to format on the phone the cards but on PC. Try the application I posted on computer with FAT32 in 32768 unit size.
The other day I partitioned my 32gb SD card on a Mac and formatted it as ntfs I believe so I could put OS X on it. I got home, wiped and reformatted it to FAT32 and transferred all my files back onto it so I could use it with my phone again. Except when I inserted it, it said that the card is blank or has an unsupported filesystem. So I reformatted it again using windows with no success, then using the official sd card formatter v 4.0. Still getting the blank sd card error. After many more wipes/reformats using exFAT and FAT32, still nothing. I even tried erasing and reformatting in a mac again, but nothing seems to work. However every computer I've tried recognizes both the card and all the data stored on it, my phone just doesn't seem to be able to read it. Any suggestions? Am I missing something very obvious? I've also tried both quick and full formats to no avail.

Please use paragraphs. That is too hard to read and I had to quit halfway through your post.
You want a Fat32 filesystem. Did you check in the settings menu to confirm that the card was mounted? Try a different card in the phone? Try formatting this card in the phone?
Just a matter of spotting a pattern in the differemt combinations.

Yep. I would insert the card, get the error, then format it in my phone, still nothing. I tried restarting with card in, out, put the card in while the phone is off, etc. I know the full format on windows should erase everything from the card including partitions, but I'm wondering if some little bit of data from the Mac somehow stays stuck on the card through that.
Oh and I can click on "mount sd card" an infinite amount of times, it just gives me the error and unmounts.
We don't have enough information. Post the exact error you see, verbatim. And it would help immensely if you try the steps I suggested in my last post.
I've tried all that stuff repeatedly I guess I'm getting a bit frustrated with this thing and wasn't clear. And the exact error is "Blank SD Card - SD Card is Blank or has Unsupported Filesystem". I'm worried that my inexperience with macs killed my card

I'm sure that it is frustrating.
However you won't get closer to a solution unless you troubleshoot it in a methodical manner. Find out if another S5 recognizes the card. Then format it in your phone, reboot and see if that makea a difference.

The Partition Problem
Maybe the Phone just detects the Blank Partition!
Try saving some Files through your Phone to the SD Card.
Android KitKat does not stop any Reading Access!
After that -- Tell me what happened.
Try the same thing with Another Phone like the Galaxy Note 3.
If it just makes issues on the S5, then it is an Internal Galaxy S5 Problem.
My tablet kept bugging me to install the latest update, so I let it do so. After restarting, it no longer recognizes my 200 gb SD card. My computer has no trouble reading the card (it's backing everything up from it now). The card had been functioning just fine until the update. I put in a 128 gb (previously used) sd card I had around, and it didn't read it either. I then fed it a brand new (64gb) card, and it apparently formatted it and recognized it. Has Samsung changed the required file format for SD cards? It seems to want me to reformat my card (hence my backing it up first). Any other options? Of course, the info presented before the update said nothing about causing SD card issues
I dont know man.
I backed up the card, allowed the tablet to reformat it, and recopied everything by inserting the card into the pc. After the recopying it didn't recognize it again. AARGH! So I let it reformat it again, and am now copying just the essential stuff with the card in the tablet and the tablet connected via usb. Windows is telling me this will take 9 hours just to copy one folder with 6gb and 7k (smallish) files. I hope Windows is lying about the 9 hours! There was originally a folder .android _secure. I wondering if copying that over the first time is what prevented the tablet from recognizing the card. So that's not being copied over this time. There's another ginormous folder with about 100gb of largish files. But given the app they go with will probably insist on redownloading them anyway, I may leave them off.
I found there is a statement about the Micro Sd Card in the latest user-book (for Android 13). It says, the system support the format of exFat and Fat, but when you slot the sd card of different format to your device, the system will require a reformat to use it, or your device will not identify the sd card. You can check it on the Samsung website, for the edition I read is Chinese.
