Wonder if anyone can help... when I connect my device to windows 2000 via USB cable, it appears in device manager as a network device, as a "windows mobile device".
Activesync doesn't recognise it and I cannot get it to sync!
Tried it on 2 separate laptops now, and they both do the same thing, yet when I try it on a desktop pc it works fine!
Any ideas?!
Many thanks

guess some firewalll/anti-virus software is blocking ur connection !!! if this is the case following link might be of some use for u --

My firm just upgraded my notebook to Vista Enterprise 32-bit (against my wishes!). My Mogul is running the most recent Sprint/HTC-supplied ROM, 3.56.651.0. Under XP, I had no problem tethering using the built-in WM "Internet Sharing" app over USB.
Under Vista, no joy.
I've tried a thousand things. I've downloaded the most recent version of WMDC. After disabling "Enable advanced network functionality" in Connections -> USB to PC, I was able to get WMDC to see the device, xfer files, sync, etc. But still no joy on tethering.
The steps I'm following (that worked on XP):
(1) on the device, I fire up Internet Sharing, select USB, and hit Connect; the phone connects to Sprint's Phone as Modem service (which I'm paying for) fine.
(2) I plug the device into notebook via USB cable
(3) the notebook complains "Windows needs to install driver for your Generic RNDIS" and offers "Locate and install driver software (recommended), "Ask me again later", or "Don't show...". I select "Locate and Install..."
(4) the notebook says it's installing the driver, but then complains:
=======
Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.
Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device
A device attached to the system is not functioning.
=======
and then the driver install windows complains:
=======
Device driver software was not successfully installed
Please consult with your device ...
Generic RNDIS Failed
=======
Has anyone gotten _THIS COMBINATION_ (i.e., Vista on the computer, plus a Sprint Mogul running ROM 3.56.651.0) to work? I'm at my wits end.
Thanks!

A quick [non]update, if you're having this problem too... No joy from hours of internet searching and posting on other boards.

my search continues also
i use wmwifirouter to tether via usb/wifi, so i guess you could try that. But i don't think it'll make a difference.
For a while, my vista ultimate wouldn't detect my phone via activesync, i did a repair on it and it fixed. It could probably be the usb driver problems.
I also installed windows 7 to play around, the usb tether worked on that also
I discovered a short while ago that the Media Net was needed in the drop down under Network Connections on the Internet sharing app.
Not sure if ya still looking for a fix but in vista you have to download/install Windows Mobile Device Center then plug your phone and wait for it to detect it. Once the sync is set up disconnect and boot up the internet sharing hit connect then hook up the usb cable. BTW using internet sharing with vista sucks ass cause it randomly connects and disconnects.
I have been using "Wireless Router" for a year and a half now on my XP desktop. It works great, now I have just purchased a laptop w/ Vista Home Premium 64 bit and I get an issue with drivers too.
I have WMDC installed but the system will not recognize my Mogul 6800 as a modem.
If anyone has an idea of were to get the driver or knows any other parameter settings we would appreciate it. I also will update my finds as I search.
BTW, Wireless Modem has a non detection feature if your are interested.
I've tried to enable the usb tething feature in the Omnia 7 by going into the diagnostics and using *#7284# to enable.
I then installed samsung modem drivers and created a dial up connection in windows 7 dialling *99#
However every time it tries to connect it times out with either error 628 or 692. (Non response or hardware problem)
I've tried adding extra initialisation instructions in the advance tab of the modems properties in windows device manager but nothing works.
The problem is I'm on Three UK and I don't know what the settings for Three should be.
Anyone made it work?
Can't tether either
Same phone, same network. The USB tethering doesn't work for me in Windows (getting the same problem as you are) or OS X.
Sorry if this is been answered before or is a dump question.
Anyone tried this? Can help me a step by step instruction? I've no luck with this at all though I tried it like 30 over times!!
1. Install pc companion on your pc.
2. on the top left hand corner, select how to connect over wifi and follow instructions.
3.under usb connection mode, select media transfer mode.
4. phone and laptop will be paired under the same wifi network.
5. on your phone, under sony ericsson, connectivity, you will see your hostname of your laptop under the 'trusted devices for wireless media transfer'. select it and click connect.
6. once connected, go to pc companion and you will be able to transfer media or files using the mediago or file explorer features without usb cables.
hope its help...........

Thanks for the quick reply.
I tried that and I managed to see my laptop hostname under the relevant place only once and when I click connect nothing happens. I tried to delete that and repair and now I cannot pair at all
Any solution? Is it really working for you?

I have been trying to get that WIFI work but its dimmed.
I am on desktop but connected though WIFI, is there any hints for that?
Nimche, what OS are you running? My wifi was greyed out on my WinXP box but was fine on my Win 7 box. According to a pop up message when I tried on the WinXP box, MTM is only supported on Vista and up.
prathaban, I had the same problem. Try this. It worked for me ....although I'm having problems again and I haven't had time to trouble shoot.
On your phone "Forget" and trusted devices. Set your phone to MTM mode and plug in the phone to your computer via USB. Choose "Configure Device for Network Access". Follow the wizard. Keep the screen on your phone awake because you're going to be asked to pair your phone with your computer. When prompted pick "Pair". When you get the successfully configured screen on your computer close the wizard and unplug your phone. You should now see your computer name on your phone under the "Trusted Devices" screen. Click on it and select "Connect". In less than a minute your phone and computer should connect and appear in "My Computer" if you're using a PC. Once I get more time I'll try to mess around with it some more.

I am @ Win 7 X64 Ultimate. I uninstalled and re-installed and didn't work. I thought this is a nice feature to have to not working and there is nothing online that I could find about it...
I'm using Win7 64 too. Hmm...you know what. Try the method I mentioned above. I think it ignores PC Companion and just uses the Windows 7 MTM support. See if that works.

Thanks but your instruction is not followable. What do you mean on your phone "forget?"
Could you put it step by step? That would be nice.
Thanks

Definitely work well. When you click connect, both devices must not be in sleep mode and connected to wifi. Take approx 2-3 mins to connect though.....
Sent from my SE Arc
Actually problem is that my PC can't find the MTB driver. I have uninstalled all USB and restart and tried again with no luck. SE doesn't provide the files anymore on their support section?
Ok, this is annoying. I had this working. And now for the life of me I can't getting going. I'm having the driver issue too.
After spending hours with this, I couldn't solve it and gave-up.
Wow! I thought I'm the only one who is stuck with the issue, but seems like more and more people are having the issue?
Interesting! Hopefully someone can show some light on this!!
Yes, same problem. arc connected and driver was installed...after al long time, driver error!
same thing here...after installing the phone the driver was unsuccessfully updated so cannot connect...hopefully this will be fixed soon...hate it when things that are advertised do not work properly...
Do we have to look for he MTP driver? I was reading SE Support forum and then they support dude was asking a user if he or she has altered the FW, like rooting or unlocking bootloader? I did a clean install without root and it wasn't fixed...''
Even if you have done any of the above, you should still be able to use your phone with no problem. This seems to be a basic function of a phone why would it be taken away from you?
Solution 1
Instal KIES
Solution 2
Goto Settings->Wireless Networks-> USB settings -> Ask at connection
Solution 3
Make sure your usb is not connected!!
Call *#7284#
Put them on PDA
Solution 4
Reboot you phone with the usb connected
Solution 5
Remove SD
Connect USB
Put SD back
