Wi-Fi Hotspot Error - Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 Questions & Answers

Hi,
problem:
I cant use my mobile as a Wi-Fi Hitspot as every time I try to activate the Hotspot it instantaneously deactivates itself, i.e. the slider moves to the off position.
What I tried unsuccessfully tried so far:
Change the AP Band between 2,4 and 5 GHz
Set the Security to off
Set Tethering hardware acceleration on and off
Reset of the Network settings Wi-Fi, mobile and Bluetooth
Several Reboots
os:
LineageOS 16, build lineage_X00TD-userdebug 9 PQ3A.190801.002cf5ef798ea, Nov 7th 2019
kernel:
4.4.194-zen+
I would appreciate any Ideas how to solve this problem. Thanks vm in advance!

Did you decrypt the device by using proper decrypt.zip? If not reflash and include the decrypt.zip.
Our phone doesn't have 5ghz band.
Try factory resetting once.

Hi,
thanks for the answer. During the rooting I also had to flash the decrypt.zip, so yes, I did a decryt of my phone - hopefully it was a popper decrypt procedure though :_)
A complete factory reset I didn't try so far as I'm afraid with all the subsequent work associated with a reset..:_(
But probably you're right and there's no way around a complete reset of the mobile.
Thanks

Ah ok, thought you meant a complete re-installation of the firmware / lineage OS. Only resetting the the phone, i.e. Erase all data should be much easier. You think that'll do the trick?

It does solve some problems. Might as well try before reflashing.

Check your APN settings or flash the stock rom with Odin and data factory reset after that. If the issue persists its probably a hardware problem.

Mobile data won't enable after lost connection

Hello. I'm experiencing a unique problem. My Moto X Play mobile data won't enable after a disconnect: that means, after I either disable the connection manually, or the network signal is lost. This is a new problem that started three days ago. I've had the phone several months and never had the problem until now. Likewise I've never had the problem on any other phone. After disconnect, the only way to have mobile data working again is to reboot the phone.
I'm currently on Android 5.1.1. I hope someone can suggest a solution that doesn't involve a full reset, or update to Android 6, because I'm not open to either method.
Help appreciated, thanks.

Please upgrade to 6.0.1
Upgrading won't wipe your data.
Maybe the newer version fixes this bug.

As I said I do not wish to update to 6, especially for a "maybe." Surely there's another thing to try, and I'll appreciate any suggestions along those lines. Thanks.

Incorrect. I solved it myself. I restored some backed up system apps + data, that were related to the data connection, using Titanium Backup. And, problem solved. The problem must have been that some data got corrupted somehow, and restoring that data fixed the problem.

[Help] Can't turn on wifi

Hi there, I got an issue on the OOS 4.5.12 after 3 days of using it. I got the problem , that the button looks stuck. I can click it and it will change its own color, but it doesnt turn on my wifi. Now I know I can clean flash the update again, but In want to know if someone had/has this problem too, and if someone maybe knows a work-around.
Edit: So I tested the device furthermore and found out, that I can't turn my Wi-Fi hotspot on... Wiping dalvic/ART cache didn't work neither...
Strange.... I didn't have this problem at all.

Same until today ? I will try to dirty flash the update, just to see if this will solve the problem. If it doesn't work, then I will be switching back to 4.5.10 OOS
Sent from my OnePlus 5 using XDA Labs
When I got this error I found out it was because I flashed new firmware and used an older kernel which didn't support the new firmware. You should read your logcat and see if there is any clue there.
Hello. Calling for help!
I have the exact same issue except i am able to launch and use WIFI. When i try to enable portable hotspot it gets stuck on "Turning on". The hotspot button in the slider shows enabling but the hotspot never gets enabled. I was on OOS 4.5.15 and upgraded to 5.1.5 after which i restored only the DATA partition from TWRP. I am currently rooted. I tried with editing the build.prop file and restarted but the issue is persistent. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I would recommend a clean flash to test without restore old data.

It's possible that the wifi cup has failed. I have have two s4 motherboards where everything works except wifi.

Jan 2020 update summary

Gang,
Just a recap about the Jan 2020 update for Pixel devices.
Functional updates: https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/24852169 (incl. some wi-fi stability fixes)
Security updates: https://source.android.com/security/bulletin/pixel/2020-01-01
Our Pixel 2 XL got a ~9.1MB update, which in my opinion (and my user experience) shows how stable it is nowadays.

Yeah it is pretty stable barring few issues like lock screen sound is gone. WiFi still keeps dropping for me at times.

I never had noticeable wifi issues with my phone, both at 2.4 and 5 GHz networks, at home, work or traveling. I'm on stock ROM.
There could be a few toxic combinations of AP model, network and channel which may cause instability, but I never noticed that.

Oh, and my lock/unlock sounds work as expected. I never had to reset the device, though, and that seems to be one of the root causes.

i think it is more related to how i hold the phone. i think i disrupt the antenna signal. I m not sure however.

I passed on the December update due to the new Gestures crashing - and the inevitable factory reset.
Does anyone know whether I can update from November to January without having to factory reset?
Cheers!

Sure you can. Just fastboot the January factory image with the -w removed from the flash-all.bat file. Make sure to disable all magisk modules and substratum themes first, set your screen lock to swipe, and update your platform-tools. And there ya go :good:

What I really meant was: with Nov to Dec, new gestures were broken and required a factory reset to get to normal state.
What I'm looking for is if I flash -w, will it still break gestures to the point of a needed factory reset? Or can I update/ flash -w and not having to factory reset?
Cheers!

Hard to say my friend. Month to month builds are comprehensive and inclusive. I would first try fastbooting without the -w first so you don't wipe data. If the problem persists, then do a factory reset, which you would do anyway if you did a clean fastboot install. Here is a list of fixes for January if that helps at all. https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/24852169?hl=en :good:

My gestures are really glitchy and i frequently get defaulted back to the pixel launcher from my action launcher which supports the Android 10 gestures. I also get a lot of freezes/delays. I was running stock with magisk and kirasukura kernel. So I backed up my entire SD to my PC and now Im about to do a full wipe (keeping the -w in the flashall.bat file) and start android 10 fresh. For me its been long overdue.

I did the Nov/Dec update and didn't notice any gestures issues. What specific issues did you found ?
I installed a clean flash (full factory Image) of the January update. There major takeaways:
1) Titanium Backup does not batch restore files....at least not for app+data. I had to choose either small batch clusters to restore or do them one by one or download from the play store and restore data using Tb. Super PITA. Not sure why this doesn't work anymore.
2). Doing the clean wipe fixed a feature I was having issues with. RCS was not working on my corporate WiFi but it does now.
3). Unfortunately now all my notifications (including the incoming call screen) now come thru as a heads-up/peek notification and if I turn that off I get no notifications at all!! I can't figure out how to get normal notifications back. It is really frustrating.
Anyone else notice these thing or now how to fix them?

I think 1) is a known problem; I've had this issue on both stock and custom roms. TiBU needs to update for Q; with respect to 3), when my screen is locked and i receive a phone call, it shows the incoming call screen. Check out your settings>apps & notifications and see if you don't have something toggled off.
Is anyone having trouble, with using Magisk, on the latest update?
