Mobile data won't enable after lost connection - X Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello. I'm experiencing a unique problem. My Moto X Play mobile data won't enable after a disconnect: that means, after I either disable the connection manually, or the network signal is lost. This is a new problem that started three days ago. I've had the phone several months and never had the problem until now. Likewise I've never had the problem on any other phone. After disconnect, the only way to have mobile data working again is to reboot the phone.
I'm currently on Android 5.1.1. I hope someone can suggest a solution that doesn't involve a full reset, or update to Android 6, because I'm not open to either method.
Help appreciated, thanks.

Please upgrade to 6.0.1
Upgrading won't wipe your data.
Maybe the newer version fixes this bug.

As I said I do not wish to update to 6, especially for a "maybe." Surely there's another thing to try, and I'll appreciate any suggestions along those lines. Thanks.

Incorrect. I solved it myself. I restored some backed up system apps + data, that were related to the data connection, using Titanium Backup. And, problem solved. The problem must have been that some data got corrupted somehow, and restoring that data fixed the problem.

[Q] Problem with WIFI, freeze and reboot after time of sleep (Also in secure mode)

Hi, I never root my phone or flash a custom ROM.
The problems was started when I flashed a new ROM from sammobile of another country, my phone comes with 4.2 and I flashed a 4.3.
I flashed newer ROM from only Vodafone-Spain (only those really are my official supplier), and then I update ever with Samsung KIES, (no Knox counter)
So, with Andorid 4.3 I had more problems than now with 4.4, now the only problem is with WIFI
I can use normally, with screen ON, the problem is when sleep for a long time (more than 1 hour) when I touch a button I see the unlock screen, but does not seem to work the touch screen, and screen go off after a seconds, if I touch other button the screen don't go on. And then, after aprox 30s it reboot itself, and show a window telling that the Process System is not responding, do you want to close?, and two buttons, close or wait.
I tried to start my phone in Secure Mode and I have the same problem, so it is not an app, it is the ROM.
I do at least 2 Factory Reset, but the problem is still there.
I think it is a software problem and not a hardware problem, because the problem start when I update to Android 4.3
I tried the trick WIFI Power save Mode OFF (on dialer, *#0011# -> WIFI -> Power save mode OFF) and never reboot automatically, so the problem I think it is with this power save mode. But if I turn off, when WIFI is ON, the battery drain fast.
In the samsung shop they tell me that first will format my phone to see if the problem solve and try for a time, if not solve, then I have to send by mail... and I will not send it because I know the time it will take to repair it is about 1-2 months and I need the phone for my work.
So is there another solution or something to try?

Since the first ROM (4.2) I flashed 3 or 4 ROMs from SamMobile, so I am not very optimistic. But I don't lost nothing, I will try it
I flash again the ROM, and after 2 days testing, the problem is still there.
Any other thing to try before send to samsung?
Please, give me another idea to try. I really have a problem with WIFI
This is how Wifi (some times) drain my battery when are not connected to a network. But the problem is worst when is connected, because it freeze and reboot.
Hello! You could fix the problem? I took suffering the same problem as your months, and I have not been solved, I'm for kicking the **** mobile! As may give so many problems with the wifi?

Yes I solve. So.. I don't solve it, it solve it self. One day I saw that I don't had wifi connection, then I saw that I don't any WIFI names stored, all was erased automatically, I don't know how.
But the result it, I don't have anymore a freeze or a reboot because wifi. ALL, absolute ALL run fine now. I had a lot of WIFI names stored, about 30-50, maybe this was the problem, a conflict with some of these names, but I'm not sure
No one update, reflash, factory reset, or start in safe mode was solve any problem, the problem solve it self... very strange.
If you try a factory reset, then don't restore all your mobile config. Try to install all apps manually, one by one. I ever restored my backuped config, and I think this was the problem.
Hope you can solve it

Thank you very much for answering so quickly.
Happens to me exactly what you do, but seems to have no solution.
I have tried more than 8 roms, stock or mods, and always fails.
At first I thought it would issue the modem or kernel, but after many tests, I do not ****ing know what is causing the problem.
I'm running out of solutions, anyway thanks for telling your case...
I'm glad that in the end one way or another, you have it fixed.

What happens when you fully wipe, flash a 4.4.2 rom, don't restore anything, not even your google account and don't install any apps.

Thanks for your interest! The truth is that it is very strange ...
If I remember correctly, already try what you mention me, but I kept going ... It's like at some point something had happened which change roms not seem to solve..
I'm considering installing a rom with 4 files and pit file, but do not know if this will help in something
Let's see if I can come up with the bug because it is becoming a pain in the ass
:good:
I would try what say Lenny1988. So the only change before solution and after solution, was a big crash on WIFi drivers/app/modem (don't sure) it self, and was deleted all my stored wifi access points that I had. It was a problem related to Wifi power save, if I disabled it then I had no reboots/freezes.
So, I would try a factory wipe and DON'T restore anything, and try for a couple days. If work, then you know a way to solve it.
Tell us if it works.
Hello there! I will update with the latest news!
I tried the recommended advice, but no luck...Not seem to affect him leave without restoring.
The only thing that seems to work and keep it running, is to disable wifi power saving system
you know....
Code:
1. Go to your phone dialer
2. Dial *#0011#
3. When you see the "ServiceMode" screen, press the left menu button
4. Select "WiFi"
5. See that "Wifi Power Save Mode" button that is "ON" - well turn it "OFF"
But this way drain your battery much faster,so it does not seem a good solution to the problem.
Curiously, the same phone, some people suffer this problem and others do not....
It may be hardware? or software?
If I find something, I'll note here.
Regards

[Q] Nexus 4 WiFi Bug

i have a nexus 4 running CM 11 M10 and i flashed the roam around 2 weeks ago and now this strange bug has showed up, the wifi doesnt work.
The device connects to wifi but the connection is only partial, the icon doesnt go from brown to white and thus i lose access to many features like the play store and google now. This bug has showed when my phone was running Paranoid Android and CM 11 M8, has anyone else had this issue? It happens for mobile data as well. Anyone know a fix?
My phone has been factory reset and everything. Ive also recently installed and used freedom, could that have caused the issue?

Uninstall freedom - that is directly using your network hardware -- if that doesn't affect the problem you could re-install it.
Have you tried it with another network router - or just on another network you have access to? You could restart your local router, clearing any ip assignments that may be blocking your phone from connecting.
IF you have access to your router and admin rights you could TEMPORARILY disable encryption to see if the problem goes away.
To test the likelihood of hardware failure, you might want to restore the phone to factory software -- NO custom roms/kernals no extra apps and then see if the problem occurs.
Cheers.. hope this helps
Well okay.

1.02 is a very recent modem and that probably isn't the problem. I suggest flashing back to a stock ROM and test it.

[Help] Can't turn on wifi

Hi there, I got an issue on the OOS 4.5.12 after 3 days of using it. I got the problem , that the button looks stuck. I can click it and it will change its own color, but it doesnt turn on my wifi. Now I know I can clean flash the update again, but In want to know if someone had/has this problem too, and if someone maybe knows a work-around.
Edit: So I tested the device furthermore and found out, that I can't turn my Wi-Fi hotspot on... Wiping dalvic/ART cache didn't work neither...
Strange.... I didn't have this problem at all.

Same until today ? I will try to dirty flash the update, just to see if this will solve the problem. If it doesn't work, then I will be switching back to 4.5.10 OOS
Sent from my OnePlus 5 using XDA Labs
When I got this error I found out it was because I flashed new firmware and used an older kernel which didn't support the new firmware. You should read your logcat and see if there is any clue there.
Hello. Calling for help!
I have the exact same issue except i am able to launch and use WIFI. When i try to enable portable hotspot it gets stuck on "Turning on". The hotspot button in the slider shows enabling but the hotspot never gets enabled. I was on OOS 4.5.15 and upgraded to 5.1.5 after which i restored only the DATA partition from TWRP. I am currently rooted. I tried with editing the build.prop file and restarted but the issue is persistent. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

[SOLVED] WiFi Completely Broken …

Below is my original post; however, I've since solved the problem. In an effort to help others with the same problem, I've written a Guide, which should explain exactly what to do if your WiFi is suddenly "broken" due to flashing issues.
Here's the link: OnePlus 5 WiFi Fix
Many thanks to everyone who offered help, especially subaash and hallo dare, who put me in the right direction.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Greetings, everyone.
Sadly, for specific reasons unknown, my WiFi appears to be completely broken.
Over the last few days I've gone "flash happy" by trying several Oreo ROMs for my OP5. Some worked while others just froze at the boot animation.
Unfortunately, shortly after flashing the xXx-NoLimits Oreo ROM, which got me to the initial set-up screen, my WiFi would not connect. So, I then bypassed the WiFi part and finished the set-up. Everything seemed to be working very well, but I could not get WiFi to work.
Yes, I could engage the Wifi slider to the ON position, and there would be a list of SSIDs; however, oftentimes even my 2 SSIDs would not display. When they did, and I tried to connect, I would see the connection attempt, but it would not complete the connection. Only the word "saved" would be shown under the SSID name. Then it would automatically try to reconnect, but without success.
I've tried virtually everything I can think of to solve the problem, but I can't connect to WiFi.
All other communications work, i.e., Bluetooth, Data, making and receiving calls. It's ONLY the Wifi that's not working.
Yes, I completely wiped my device and re-installed the original OxygenOS (4.5.14), but that didn't work. I also tried completely wiping the device and then installing that latest OxygenOS v4.5.15, but that didn't solve the problem, either.
I went back and flashed all the previous custom ROMs in an attempt to see if any of them would work, but nothing. I tried NitrogenOS, HalogenOS, Liquid Remix, xXx NoLimits, and they all could not connect to WiFi.
I even tried a few WiFi Fix apps on Google Play, but they didn't work, either.
Oh, yes … I even checked my router. It's perfectly fine. I can get WiFi on my laptop without a problem. Furthermore, when I went to a local coffee shop this morning that provides free WiFi, my phone could not connect, just like at home.
Does anyone have ANY suggestions?
Thank you,
Peter
I would say this is to do with your firmware/modem.
I did have this issue on a non Oreo ROM and in the end I just did a dirty flash and it worked.

I've tried flashing both the 4.5.14 and 4.5.15 firmware, with no luck; however, I accidentally deleted my modem nandroid about a week ago.
Do you know where I might find a flashable modem file?
Thanks,

Addendum: I found the following site for Firmware & Modems:

I'll try flashing them and report back.
Addendum 2: NOPE! Didn't work. I flashed a few different firmware & modems, 4.5.13, 4.5.14 and 4.5.15, but WiFi is still broken. Yes, I first flashed the appropriate OS version before flashing the firmware and modem. In other words, I always matched the OS version with the firmware & modem version, but no success. Everything works except WiFi. Hmm, still stumped.

All I can do now is wait for suggestions from others, or take the phone to a repair shop (which I'm hesitant to do).

Do you have a full rom backup? I mean of the last working rom you had before all the flashing? If so, from a full stock rom (1.53gb or close) of the same build as the backup (ie... 4.5.14) wipe and flash that rom, then wipe and restore the backup you have if the last working rom. If they doesn't work I think you're likely looking at a hardware issue.

So first of all the reason why it is broken is because of the oreo firmware that you flashed earlier. Now what you should do is flash stock recovery and flash the oreo build and boot it up and running. Once you've done that flash the rollback rom (which suppose to downgrade your oreo firmware to nougat firmware). Once you've done it basically it fixes you're wifi issue.

Okay, let me first answer a couple of questions. Like I said in my first post, I DID flash the original ROM, as well as other OEM OxygenOS ROMs, all without success. Yes, I used the exact same ROM that was working perfectly before the problem. Yes, I also had a FULL Nandroid of the working system, but restoring that also did nothing to solve the problem.
Okay, with that out of the way, I went to a repair shop this morning to try and solve the problem. It was unsuccessful. The technician said it's unlikely to be hardware related because I can still get the phone to recognize all local SSIDs. I simply can't connect to any of them. Just like hallo dare said in his post a few back, when I try to connect to my SSID, it tries to connect for a second or two, and then it just shows "saved" and wifi is disabled.
So, for now I'm still completely stumped.

Okay, I will do exactly what subaash said and report back. I, too, agree that it's probably software related, which is why I'm actively attacking this issue.

P.S. "Son?" Hmm, I have a sneaking suspicion that I'm older than you (will be 60 in March).
Success ... maybe?
Well, well. It appears the previous suggestions were correct. So far it's successful, but I haven't quite finished the initial set-up. All I can say is that WiFi is working, and I'm grateful for that.
However, it was a frightening ordeal. At one point I thought my device was bricked, and I didn't know what to do. However, with some thought, I was able to solve the problem.
Good news, though, is that I DID NOT have to revert back to Nougat. I'm now running Oxygen Oreo 8.0.0 Open Beta 2.
I will provide a detailed instructions of what I did a bit later. I simply want to get everything up-and-running, which could take a few hours.
Here's an abbreviated version:
Downloaded Oxygen Oreo 8.0.0 Open Beta 1 from here:
http://downloads.oneplus.net/oneplus-5/oneplus_5_oxygenos_openbeta_1/
Downloaded Stock Recovery from Post #2 here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/how-to/official-oxygenos-4-5-2-7-1-1-ota-t3627003
Copied both files above to root of device internal storage
Reboot into TWRP recovery
Flashed stock recovery in TWRP
Reboot into stock recovery
COMPLETELY Wiped the entire system ... absolutely everything ... including internal storage. This is where I had the initial problem. I did not wipe everything, including internal storage, and I ended up with a mixture of jumbled numbers and letters when looking at the file structure.
Using ADB Sideload within the stock recovery, I "moved/flashed" the ROM ZIP to the device
After successful sideload, I said yes to installing the ROM
The ROM then installed and, voila, I'm at the initial set-up screen.
Okay, that's all for now. I'll be back later.

Format data resolves the problem (at least with me...)

Wi-Fi Hotspot Error

Hi,
problem:
I cant use my mobile as a Wi-Fi Hitspot as every time I try to activate the Hotspot it instantaneously deactivates itself, i.e. the slider moves to the off position.
What I tried unsuccessfully tried so far:
Change the AP Band between 2,4 and 5 GHz
Set the Security to off
Set Tethering hardware acceleration on and off
Reset of the Network settings Wi-Fi, mobile and Bluetooth
Several Reboots
os:
LineageOS 16, build lineage_X00TD-userdebug 9 PQ3A.190801.002cf5ef798ea, Nov 7th 2019
kernel:
4.4.194-zen+
I would appreciate any Ideas how to solve this problem. Thanks vm in advance!

Did you decrypt the device by using proper decrypt.zip? If not reflash and include the decrypt.zip.
Our phone doesn't have 5ghz band.
Try factory resetting once.

Hi,
thanks for the answer. During the rooting I also had to flash the decrypt.zip, so yes, I did a decryt of my phone - hopefully it was a popper decrypt procedure though :_)
A complete factory reset I didn't try so far as I'm afraid with all the subsequent work associated with a reset..:_(
But probably you're right and there's no way around a complete reset of the mobile.
Thanks

Ah ok, thought you meant a complete re-installation of the firmware / lineage OS. Only resetting the the phone, i.e. Erase all data should be much easier. You think that'll do the trick?

It does solve some problems. Might as well try before reflashing.
