Hi, I've got a new update today (11/02) and I want to know if there's already a method to root on Android 10. I've already searched for it but didn't find anything. Thanks.

It's best to wait until a stable twrp is made.
I followed this and it worked perfectly.

I followed the standard procedure and root remained but lost decryption in twrp:
Rebooted in twrp
Ran latest magisk uninstaller in twrp
Installed Android10
Installed latest twrp of Mauronofrio
Rebooted info twrp
Installed magisk
Rebooted into system
I just updated OxygenOS and didn't see that there was a version change from Android 9 to 10 involved.
TWRP was replaced with the stock recovery during the process. That always happened when running an OxygenOS system update, but I could always flash TWRP again afterwards. That doesn't seem to work anymore now.
I guess my mistake was to reboot to system after updating, correct?
Didn't pay enough attention, I thought it was just another Android 9 update. That'll teach me...

I did a clean reset and installed a fresh android 9. So no root, nothing.
Anyways I install magisk 5.8.3 and then tried to patch the boot.img from the android 9 factory image.
But every time I select the boot.img and try to patch it, it says "Failed! ! Installion failed!".
How has everyone else tried to install magisk on android 9?

Not the way you are doing it. I boot to TWRP, without installing it and have TWRP install the full zip.
Hm I'll try this. Used to the boot patching.

Fwiw. I've been using this magisk version for dp3-5, but there are newer versions, but 16.4 works for me...

I may try a newer version at some point, but I'm in no rush.

Make sure your using 16.7 you have to change in setting to beta. Same thing happened to me trying to use 16.0
I get updater error :2 failed to install every freaking time. No matter what zip i use. 1600 1671 1674
After dirty flash (remove -w) Android 9 PPR1 then install Magisk 16.7, it seems I am not able to set PIN or any security... Anyone has the same issue?
I have the same issue TWRP also can't decript the phone. I am going to wipe everything, and fastboot erase userdata.

Don't wipe your phone! Just flash the new boot.img from the image file (not OTA file) and you will be able to go back to your Android system and disable the pin. After disable the pin, boot into TWRP and flash the Magisk from here https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77240449&postcount=2832
Hope this helps!

There's a 3.2.3-0 out as well. It's reportedly able to decrypt using alphanumeric codes. However a straight 4 number pin still isn't working for me.

Been having issues myself since updating to Pie yesterday. TWRP installed working fine. Installed magisk manager, set to beta channel. Rebooted into TWRP and flashed magisk 16.7, phone hanging at the lovely google logo page. I then have to run the uninstaller back in TWRP or i cant get the phone to boot. Anyone had this?

Yeah, rooting on P is a little tricky it seems. You'll likely have to run the uninstaller, then boot up. Then go back to twrp and flash this version of magisk. It's the 16.7(4) version found in the Flash kernel thread :good:

Is there any way to root Android 10 stable after incremental update from Android 9?
Patched boot.img breaks wifi and freezes on calls/breaks sound.
The only tool I can find seems to require not to reboot, though it is already too late for that, unless I downgrade.

Sorry but how can you root using a kernel?
Either I misunterstood the question or you did ?
Thank you for your answers but I didn't understand either...
Here's how I rooted my device.
Downloaded the update
Installed it via local upgrade
Flashed the twrp a/b retention script via magisk
Then,I installed magisk to inactive partition via magisk manager
Rebooted and the system was running perfectly with twrp and root access still there.
Note: Data in twrp will stay encrypted using this method.
Did you have root pre-instaled? Did you reboot between the first and second step? Could you please tell me where to find the a/b retention script?

I did the same as you, upgraded to Android 10 but downgraded to 9 and followed the above steps as I couldn't find a proper way to root when already on 10.
You need to have root and twrp to use this method.
Only reboot after you have flashed the script and installed magisk to the inactive slot.
You can find the script by searching on magisk manager.
Thanks! Did you downgrade with MSM tool?

Ok so i'm running now OOS Stable 10.0 with TWRP running, and Magisk ofc.
Now, i used this guide -

To update from 9.0.17 to 10.0
But never tried to update from 10.0.
Can i update like the usual process ?
Enter Recovery > Flash ROM > Flash TWRP > Flash Magisk ?
Or i need to do it differently .
Edit : I want to update from 10.0 to OB3.

If you do it this way make sure you update to the latest version of TWRP that was released today (3.3.1-30) before upgrading the ROM.
Open magisk manager and restore boot.img.
Update locally in system settings.
Dont reboot.
Install magisk to inactive slot in magisk manager.
Reboot and provit.
No need for twrp.

You don't need boot.img. Magisk automatically backups the original boot.img and patches it. That way you can restore it thru magisk manager. And patch the new boot.img (install to in-active slot) after local upgrade.

Well, that doesn't answer the question: why do you need TWRP?
The problem is that you ask for a recipe, without knowing clearly what you're doing when applying the recipe.
Yes you can update with local update while keeping Magisk and twrp. See first posts of OOS 10.0.1 thread in Guide section.
Yes you can update from within twrp, the way ROMs are fleshed since nearly a decade
Yes you can flash twrp with Magisk manager, since months it's a basic knowledge.
No you don't need stock boot.img
Don't follow the guide you quote WHICH WAS WRITTEN WHEN NO WORKING TWRP was available for A10. It's outdated now. Use regular and classical procedures

IMHO, i recommend using stock OOS and root only. Because it already is a great rom. You can flash certain extras with magisk manager anyway.

The answer is in the post you quoted:
'Yes you can flash twrp with Magisk manager, since months it's a basic knowledge"
What I did was open Magisk Manager - go to Modules - click Add (+) - select the TWRP installer (zip) - exit Magisk Manager - reboot to TWRP - reinstall Magisk.
There might be a way to reinstall Magisk from Magisk Manager to the active slot but I'm not sure so I did it through TWRP.

If I want to do a clean install, do I need that 21 BETA to patch the stock boot image for flashing via fastboot?
Wouldn't the latest stable Magisk 22 work for this?
Maybe there is an already patched boot image that 100% works for the Global version?
Thanks.
I have unlocked bootloader + root with magisk. Is there anything special I need to do before letting the OTA update? What about afterwards, will I need to re root?

If you update then the kernel gets done too.
If you have modules installed disable them first.
You'll be fine.
PS: so are you on ob3 or 11 stable?
I'm rooted with an unlocked bootloader on 11.IN11AA (Global). How do I perform a local upgrade without the OTA file to put into the root folder? It seems like the Global version of the OTA file is nowhere to be found and I can't download it via System Update since it fails due to root. Do we need to just wait for the 11.0.1.1.IN11AA OTA zip file to be posted? Thanks in advance.

For those with trouble installing 11.0.1.1 AA update with root as Google server only pushed incremental OTA at the moment.
1. Flash your current version unpatched boot.img into both slots in fastboot
2. Use the following command to boot from a patched boot, but not modifying the partitions. (fastboot boot patched.img)
3. Update with system updater with incremental ota.
4. Don't reboot, but flash the magisk with magisk app to the inactive slot.
5. Reboot and done.

This worked for me as well taking the actual partial OTA update from system update and going through the steps in Magisk.
A little nerve wracking considering the many times trying to update has failed on my last couple OP devices, but at least this time, it worked.
Thanks.
anyone have a patched magisk boot for IN2025?
I did the steps of flashing the stock boot.img, then booting the patched img, installed the OTA, used magisk to patch before reboot, but when it rebooted it said installation failed, and i was unable to access magisk after that as it was on the wrong slot... I had to apply the OTA update again, and now am stick without root
IN short, need either a stock IN2025 boot image to patch myself, or a magisk patched one...
TIA
