anyone had Samsung fix screen burn with s calibration - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

They say they might be able to fix without changing screen, but wouldn't that mean I could use one of those apps for that ? He said it involves the same kind of thing

the only thing ive seen for burn in removal are apps that basically just flash the screen as bright and full as it can to try to flood those pixels with R, G and B to blast out the burn-in. They have to run for like 30 to 40 hours straight, but ive never let it run for more than 10 min as the phone gets wicked hot and i wasnt willing to put it in a bucket of asbestos (in case of note 7 stuff happening) with a fan blowing on it to keep it cool. I have a S7 with some pretty noticeable burn in that i guess i could try it on, but where am i gonna find asbestos these days???

Yeah mate, also I read that all they do is make the rest of the pixels crap, though he said it will only take 15 minutes, I still find it hard to believe, when screen burn happens common sense tells me it needs a new screen. Unfixable.
Asbestos ? I'm a bit confused on that one mate. You being serious, what you need that for.

Naw mate, the asbestos was just foolin around about how hot the little [email protected] gets when it's running thru the paces of what the burn-in app does to "fix" it LoL but I'm quite leary of the 15 min fix with an app... I would say "here is the cash for the cost of the procedure, if it works to my satisfaction, we will transact a payment for your services. If it is not, however, we will not transact and I shall be on my merry way, cash in pocket"
If he finds that to be unreasonable, then he doesn't seem very confident in the process and likely can't do what he claims. A person confident in their process would gladly accept the payment up front as a collateral of sorts. Rambling, sorry...

No worries, yeah very true. He did say that if the screen burn isn't bad he's yet to see it fail, said it only fails if it's really really bad.
I mean I'm sure there version of the burn in fix is better than the apps and YouTube. And I'd rather that than nothing. If they notice the Knox has been tripped lol I'm still under warranty but Knox is tripped. And this guy's a jobsworth I can tell.

Dust under screen/ Won't repair

Just thought I'd let you guys know. I just called HTC support to try to get my phone repaired. I read other post saying It'd be a good idea to let them know over the phone if it's unlocked so I did. Pretty much hung up the phone on me there, said they can't /won't do anything, even though it's a hardware issue. If i bricked the phone, I can take responsibility in that, but this is just BS.
Anyone else have a similar issue or way to circumvent this? I'm tempted to just brick it and get it replaced as they won't see the unlocked.
Any input would be great. There is a **** ton of dust too.
How long have you had the phone? I got mine three weeks ago but this dust issue is the reason I haven't rooted. So far I have had no issues. Does anyone have a high Res pic of the dust issue? Kind of curious to see it.

Mine are in the dead center - 4 or 5 big ones that are super noticeable. and a lot of itty bitty ones
I just called again hoping to get someone else. I did. I got the exchange process going and they are sending me one. I just am worried about once they review it. Last time when I sent it in I had a manager call me back personally and leave a message. Wish me luck guys. And if it comes down to it. Deny deny deny !

Trackball Screwy

Yesterday afternoon the trackball on my N1 stopped working. it'll scroll everywhere but left. Nothing obviously wrong with it, just wont go. thought i'd give it a minute, push and play with it, see if something gives, but no dice. This morning I called HTC, no questions about bootloader which should not affect a hardware issue anyway. Having a replacement sent today.
Now I'll send this phone back, and they will assumably examine and test it. I would agree with any non-hardware issues being rejected due to unlocked bootloader, however if they contact me and say they will not cover the trackball because of this, I will bite the bullet and pay for the repair or replacement, and won't even be pissy about it. I'm just curious what HTC will do, being as this is obviously a hardware issue which unlocking cannot affect.
Seems 50/50 whether they will cover it or not really.
i had a h/w issue and an unlocked bootloader and they still charged me $55 for a replacement
good luck
As of yesterday my trackball has started being annoying, has trouble scrolling downwards, though is not completely broken. I am reluctant to do an exchange, because mine is a special import and has an unlocked bootloader.
Do you have the number for US HTC anyway?

no just curious because I myself am looking into buying this phone. I don't want to repeat someone else's mistakes (if there are any mistakes at all). Not related to this but i've heard plenty of times where someone has said "if I was a little more careful, this wouldn't have happend". I'm trying to find a bunch of those situations so I don't fall for them. Thats it..

i have that as well on cyanogen 506. honestly it should be fine.
if it sticks, clean the ball with a very miniscule amount of alcohol, it'll break the dirt down and youll be good to go. or just dont think about it everytime you touch it (i used to be that way and now im better off. ha)
oh and a friendly tip.
EVERYTIME you're done using the TB, WIPE IT ON YOUR SHIRT or something cloth. thats the best way to clean it. up and down on your shirt. side to side even too

Needless to say I think i've heard every problem you could possibly have with this phone happen. From the screen cracking from a 1 foot drop to the camera app not working, to this post. However, I'm going with the n1 anyway. I'm sure that for every bad nexus one, theres 1,999 good ones. Anyway the only thing I need help with is finding a good case that will prevent damage because I have been known for dropping my phone alot.
My friends have told me to go with the "seidio innocase II" and others have said get a crystal silicone case. What do you recommend?

I've had it since release. I ordered it about 30 minutes after the google.com/phone site was up and running. I am always careful with my devices, and use cases and protectors. My phone has never been dropped or mishandled. By way of example, I also got my G1 on release day, and when i got my nexus I was able to sell it on Ebay for $250 with a review about the immaculate condition of the phone he had received. He said it looked like it just came out of the original box.
I hold babies with less precision and attention.
Easy fix
I had the same problem but mine wouldn't scroll down. After getting the run-around on the phone from HTC, I tried to fix it myself. It took less than 10 seconds.
Just grab the ball using your finger nails or something similar, and twist the ball a little bit. it'll loosen up built up dirt and oil on the sensors, and viola! You should be able to scroll again. If not, then you need a replacement.

You know, I would try this if the replacement hadn't been delivered to my doorstep like 5 minutes ago. Downside = I suppose I will need to run stock for a few weeks in case they refuse to accept the return because of the bootloader. Will make me appreciate devs all the more.

Dead Screen?

Hey guys I'm just wondering if anyone has had this problem with their phone;
The other day I was on the phone when it started raining. After the call I saw my phone had gotten wet but I have a crystal case to protect it, so as soon as I got home I wiped it down and took it apart and left it to warm & dry off (I learnt my lesson with previous electronics to never use it when it could be wet inside).
After leaving it for 4 hours in a warm airing cupboard it works... kinda...
My screen now goes black for a period of time, and the backlight flickers before going black (just like when fluorescent lights flicker). Then I cannot see anything at all.
I can still receive calls & answer them, although I cannot see who is calling. but I definitely cannot make calls
Sometimes when I leave it for a few hours the screen just comes back on randomly but I cannot put up with this.
Should this fault be covered by the HTC warranty?
haha no. spend some buks now
it can be a little messy and there's a chance of possibly getting a little granual in your device but I have heard nothing but good word from people who have had the same issue and actually put their devices in rice to allow the granuals to absorb all the moisture.

first of all man why are you making this an issue? want an argument? huh?
secondly dude i messaged you. read it.
third now for people with no sense let me break the post down. the 'haha' was meant for the part he said that will HTC claim it back in warranty? well afaik no they wouldn't plus they are HTC. and as far as my smile goes... well i didn't find the angel smiley.
enough said?!?
I wasn't swimming when answering the call, it was raining... im sure all mobiles are supposed to be built to accept that weather happens (to a certain degree ofcourse) with the exception of super freezing and super warm environments.
It's a shame that pretty much all phone repair stores near me (in Birmingham) look very dodgy,
I've mailed HTC and they were trying to be helpful but in the end they referred me to call their Support line to arrange repairs.
Anyway I'm going to fear that this will have to come under "water damage" repairs... how much would you suspect that to cost?

How much light leak is unacceptable?

I got a bit. Would be happier, obviously, if there weren't any. How much light leakage would you say warrants a return?
make sure the lights are on and give it to someone and if they don't point it out, then it is ok.
Omg, dont do it. Is it killing your experience with the phone? Are you getting payed to discredit this phone? Come with something better to complain about. I went through the same line of thoughts. But alas, we paid handsomely for this device and I don't think it's unreasonable to expect they be free of manufacturing defects. Yet, I understand that some may be unavoidable. Ergo my question: how much light leak is too much?

you handled his tone with aplomb, i must admit
i remember when i got my nexus, people went crazy about this that and the other.
no device is going to be perfect. ever. and, wait until 2 months from now when another phone comes out, and see how many threads get posted up about how people are whizzed that their phone is already "out of date", even though it isn't
it just happens with technophiles.
if you see another phone like yours (and you probably will sometime), just do a comparison. or, go down to the store, and do a comparison. if yours is substantially worse, then you deserve a replacement. if its the same, or not as bad, then either deal with it, or get a different model of phone

Thank you for your thoughtful response. This guidance is reasonable and I will it. BTW, how do you like your Evo over the Nexus? I was still teetering as of yesterday.
I have my EVO. What leaked light are you talkin' about, Willis?
You can hardly even see it in the night. you would have to look for it. if no one never mention this none of us would probly even know. thats how lil it is.
But as the other user say "No phone is perfect"
I will bet you anything. you can be rich as hell and buy a million doller phone. you will always see a post saying "OMG my phone dpad get stuck, is this phone going to ship with a major defect?"
But i think it sometimes get annoying. and carry to far out when people start crying about lil things as in "OMG Its dust under my screen how can i get it out!" or "MY PHONE JUST REBOOTED! BY ITS SELF! WHY!!"
People never do the basic stuff to fix a problem. like maybe try a reboot, or take out the battery, or wipe your phone clean. You people just come to forums looking for answers that you can solved on your own
I got lucky then. Can't see any light leaking.

OK so look, I love the Hero. But the Dust under the screen issue was VERY major for me. I'm not talking a few dust particles. I'm talking about people instantly noticing and asking what happened to the top of the screen. Luckily I live next to a really good sprint store and the tech was a nice guy and did a good job of cleaning it out on 2 separate occasions.
BTW, I can't find any issues with the EVO yet, and hopefully the dust issue is only for the Hero. (The reason its a big deal with me is because I clean my screen constantly and that's how the dust keeps getting in...

damn, you handled his tone very proffesionally. I would say if it is enough to distract you or make your usage of the EVO less enjoyable (IE. flooding onto the screen) than it is to much
I see a little bit but I bought a case and it hides the little I saw. No biggie.

All this rage from a senior emmber and not once did you answer the question the OP had or even had a rational thought towards the matter, was he complaining? no he was askign a question in which you should have either replied with a resonable response or kept your e-rage to yourself.
just not being able to turn the lights off on the buttons was nearly a deal killer for me on my droid. luckily someone came out with ledshack.
i prefer having no lights at all and just memorize the button placements. it's extremely annoying when you're reading an ebook with night mode one and having a bright light shining in your face.
so for me any light leak would be a deal breaker. so until ledshack gets updated for the evo i'll put off buying it for now.

He wasn't referring to Coleman's unfortunate death, I'm pretty sure he used that phrase just to question the issue he brought up.

Is this phone worth saving, or trash it.

Oh and sorry to all the princesses on here who cant even wait for a person to sleep through the night before bring out the lynch mob and pitch forks.
Next time I will PM each one of you individually so you will get minute by minute updates of my life.
ANYWAY
Is this have any value for me to keep in parts.
It powers on but the LED screen does not come up, about all that seems usefull to me is the back and battery. Is there anything else worth saving?
No insurance on the phone? I was going to say get a replacement screen on ebay but I just checked the prices and my god its not worth it.
Would probably be worth keeping it. Parts prices will fall in the next few months and could replace the screen pretty cheaply if you hold on to it.
Why did you not ask this question in the other thread you started?

Fair enough. I did not notice it was locked. Good luck!
save it for a rainy day. spare battery or whatever isnt damaged. i dont see the need to start a thread to help make a decision about something that does not help anyone else on XDA.
If anything we now know, not to leave our expensive device on a car and drive away. Thank you for the insight.

people are mad.. because..
you only post a broken galaxy s3 pic + "booo" word.
just boooo word.
it just like you somehow
make a statement that galaxy s3 is a bad and so fragile device.
which is not,
it got ran by a truck,
of course it's broke.
anyway..
just wait for the parts price down,
it's still rare and pricy for now.

Didn't you say you had insurance and were getting it replaced?
Don't you have to send it back?

I get that, but I posted late at night and got up the next morning to a lynch mob, its not like I abandoned the thread. I would have never thought anyone would intentionally damage such an expensive thread so it was rather pathetic to see that was the direction of the thread before I had a chance to respond.

I claimed it as lost, It fell off on a very busy road and I wasnt to keen on trying to stop traffic to get it. On the way home it had worked its way closer to the side of the road and traffic was a lot lighter so I decided to venture out (mainly just to see if my SD made it). I had already made the claim though as lost, since I didnt plan on trying to retrieve the phone.
