As all of us probably already know that LG made a statement about the bootloop issue of G4s which clearly proves that this problem is due to manufacturing fault. So LG has promised to repair them under warrenty which were bought under official warrenty from the local official LG provider or carrier. So the first paragraph was very clear & specific.
But in the second paragraph, LG's statement was very fuzzy.
So let's be clear once again.
Fact 1: Any LG G4 that was bought under country warrenty and had bootloop, LG used to repair it previously. There was no problem from their side.
Fact 2: Those who didn't buy LG with warrenty (I.e. bought from 3rd party retailers or bought from abroad which warrenty is not valid in native country or bought during the promotions), mostly the models they bought are not native models that are being sold by their local LG providers. So when they got bootloop, LG straight forward denied to repair the devices. So these people are the sufferers and they are the vast majority.
Fact 3: As LG has publicly acknowledged this issue as their manufacturing fault (according to androidauthority), any device that has this problem regardless model variety or country, LG should repair it.
Fact 4: LG didn't make any strong and clear statement about how non-warrenty customers will get their service. So, local LG providers as in my country, USA & some other places also denying to repair it.
IMO all these problems were occurring before and that's why that petition was signed, right? And as this is now official, why not repair this SINGLE issue under warrenty as no LG G4 is still more than 1 year old....
So I think this is not over yet. LG gave a very political statement by saying "warrenty conditions may differ" in their statement. I request the concerned persons to look into the issue and users should raise their voice again once more.

Hey guys,
I searched the forum for this news but couldnĀ“t find it anywhere. Therefore, I am sorry if it is old news.
However, if you had the bootloader loop problem you may want to read this.
LG finally admitted officially that some (a lot) units of the LG G4 have a design failure that affects the phones bootloader. Something like some badly fixed components.
" LG Electronics has been made aware of a booting issue with the LG G4 smartphone that has now been identified as resulting from a loose contact between components. Customers who are experiencing booting issues with their LG G4s should contact their local carrier from where the G4 was purchased or a nearby LG Service Center (www.lg.com/common) for repair under full warranty.
Customers who purchased their G4 devices from non-carrier retailers should contact an LG Service Center with the understanding that warranty conditions will differ. LG Electronics is committed to providing the highest standards of product quality and customer service and apologizes for the inconvenience caused to some of our customers who initially received incorrect diagnoses. "
Good luck!

Also, for those of us with non-US phones living in the US. GOOD LUCK. LG USA won't fix the phone. LG Taiwan wants the phone shipped to them which is weeks worth of waiting, etc. AND on your dime.
I am beyond pissed right now. I'm done with LG. This is my last LG device.
I also have a KDDI model with a hardware problem. But LG Romania will not provide any services for phones from outside EU. I have been quite a fan of LG, but now I will look elsewhere.
LG US fixed mine, US phone though. My previous LG had issues as well, but the support from LG wasn't bad in this case.

Almost makes me wish mine would start looping. I won mine from PC Magazine, if it crapped out and they gave me flack about fixing it I would have to contact PC Magazine....
Will they fix devices with unlocked bootloaders?
I had the bootloop problem with my G4 in Germany. Called Lg support and they immediately told me they are aware of this issue. I had to verify my IMEI with them and then I got sent a free shipping ticket via email. I sent them my phone and got it back approximately 10 days later. It was the same phone, they obv. repaired it. My bootloader was unlocked, when I got it back it was locked again. I have no issues so far and they didn't with my unlocked bootloader. Big thumbs up for the LG Support. Didn't cost me a dime and was handled quite professionally.
Hey guys. I'm creating this thread to share my experience with Bootloop and my G4. I'm not expecting any solutions as even this forum states the only solution is to RMA the phone; just hoped this would help raise awareness and make more people cautious (people here are already cautious, but there's always people who come to this site randomly from Google, as I was in the past).
If this isn't the right subforum, let me know please. I apologize since I'm new around here.
>Buy new LG G4 in June for nearly 600 bucks
>early model; phone not out in US yet
>bought international factory unlocked (H815) version from a United-States based seller on eBay
>this version (H815) isn't sold in the US even now that the phone is out; only G4 phones sold in the US are different models that depend on carrier
>I use Cricket wireless
>I also buy extended warranty through CPS Central - Consumer Priority Service which *conveniently* expired last month
>Phone lasts me through the summer and up until Monday the 8th of February, 2016; works great
>First day of school on monday, I'm charging the phone while in CS lab and I go to unlock it to check a text message
>Phone crashes and the screen goes black
>Shows LG (powered by android) splash screen and goes black again
>I immediately get worried
>I get home and do some research
>Turns out the issue is most likely this: *insert Android Authority article link*
>I scramble about trying to find different ways to fix it:
1. Try Recovery mode (factory reset) and hard reset; doesn't work for the most part. Even when telling the phone to factory reset it just crashes again. I was actually able to get into the OS at one point but then it crashed again and kept bootlooping :|
2. Download mode is barely accessible; I was able to get to the Firmware Updating screen but it got stuck at 0% and eventually went black again
3. Friend wasn't able to flash the phone because of this
4. Tried calling local repair shops, but all they do is software fixes
5. Tried calling LG USA, but since the model was manufactured in Taiwan and not in the USA they won't fix it (the guy offered to give me LG Taiwan's number even though he wasn't even sure if anyone there spoke English)
6. Thinking about sending it to Consumer Priority Service but they'll charge me for diagnostics and might not even be able to fix the phone (this will be an out of warranty claim too)
>Only option left now (besides possibly CPS) is to get my Taiwanese friend to possibly help me call LG Taiwan to see if I can send them my phone (which is less than a year old and has an obvious production level flaw)
>Will take months
>Stuck with temp Verizon Galaxy S4 that my friend is letting me borrow
>Thinking of shelling out money (which I don't want to shell out) for either the Nexus 6P or Galaxy S6 (Nexus 6P comes default factory unlocked but my carrier officially supports the S6)
>College student working only part time
Lessons learned:
1. Never early adopt
2. Always buy reliable protection
3. Never buy grey market
4. Don't buy on eBay (okay, maybe not)
Thanks for reading all of this.
If my phone dies I'm getting an iPhone.
I love this phone but it sucks knowing that every moment I could lose all my data... I hope it lasts until I am back from holidays so I can do a full backup.
I can upgrade from a note 5 next week. I can either choose a Galaxy S7 Edge, V20, G5, or an iPhone 7 plus. Is the bootloop issue common with the v20?
LG G4 & LG V10 are 2015's flagships they share the same motherboard, only the early batches of these flagships are prone to bootloop! The later batches must be fine. LG G5 & LG V20 are 2016's flagships and they do not boot loop! Make sure you use good quality USB-C cables for charging , I think in the early days of the HTC 10 had problems with some poor quality USB-C cables (don't know if this caused zero charge or boot loop) If some complained about the amazing LG G5 boot loop the reason is the early batches of the G5 had bad storage HDD. It might affected very few G5's. LG admitted quietly that it'll replace with newer motherboards for free in case of infamous bootloops of the LG G4. The LG G6 looks and sounds so promising and can't wait to own one!

Out of those phones you listed, I believe the V20 will be the closest in terms of similarities. I don't think you could go wrong with any of those choices.
In regards to the bootloop issue, based on bootloop history of past LG devices, it is entirely too early to tell. Those that had bootloop issues typically experienced them at the 1 year mark. I, however, owned a G3 and a G4 (and now currently the V20 ) and have been fortunate enough not to go through those troubles.
V20 is an outstanding phone and even more so once rooted. Good luck with your decision.
Well I don't believe the v20 will suffer from the same issue affecting v10 and g4.
The v10 and g4 share the same board and the main boot loop issue was stated to be a poor solder job on the main board.
The g4 solder problem was officially announced by LG in the beginning of 2016 so this would have been several months of the v10 sharing the same problem. I believe LG is 100% supporting devices under warranty to get repaired free of cost even beyond the 1 year warranty. I think the v10 is covered as well despite never having an official announcement.
Anyway I kind of got off topic, to answer your question I have several reasons to believe the v20 doesn't have this issue:
- completely different chipset means assembly was probably changed up enough to where this issue is fixed.
- this phone does not get hot enough, even when charging the device is at best warm whereas the v10 and g4 do get pretty toasty
I had a v10 for 1 year and 2 months when I suddenly got the boot loop, I was going to turn it in under warranty but decided to jump to the v20 instead. Even though the device was toast I got a 200 credit towards the v20.
I think you'll be safe to be honest.
Edit: there has been a reported boot loop issue with the v20 when people use uncertified usb type c cables according to LG.
Also be aware that boot loop issues are relatively common issue with all phones specifically if rooting is done incorrectly or directions are followed for the wrong phone.

I have a v20 boot loop within 48hrs of switching on.
Return for replacement. Sorted.
Christ OP.. Nothing towards you but that is a garbage list of telephones to choose from. I really LIKE this phone. Decent horsepower, camera is great if you know how to use it, removable battery, full function IR port.. But if you didnt get a firmware within the rooting window you are SOL. TBH, the screen burn on my v20 makes me really butthurt. Blemish on an otherwise perfect (IMO) phoney phone phone. Almost butthurt enuff that i would have to think about it really hard before i purchased it now, knowing what i know.
Woulda have held out for something in HTC's portfoflio maybe. Or maybe nothing for a while still.. Since i got this v20, i quit paying attention to the new hotness in cellular land.
As of today, every bootloop i've had on the v20 was caused by flashing things that might contain some source that either is not compatible with my variant or is just wrongly developed. On the other hand, it is still kind of early to know whether it will develop bootloop out of nowhere. I have 2x LG G3 since day 1 of being released. And they still working perfectly. ( sure many people developed bootloop but also many didnt...in other words it is a russian roulette. One could either miss the bullet or get shot ) If it does happen to develop bootloop i hope it is prior to the 1 year warranty provided from Tmobile.
I have had my g3, g4 and g5 never play up. I purchased a V20 last week and it lasted less than 48hrs and was bought through Eglobal and looks like a boot loop. That being said it was bought from Hong Kong without knowing and now before I send it back I'm having LG Australia look at it for diagnostics.
Have always bought Kogan and never had a warranty issue with them, I will post as soon as I get a verdict from LG before it goes back to supplier.
Unfortunately I had pernament bootloop in my LG V20 VS995 (Verizon).
I didn't root, mod, flash or anything with this phone.
I leave it next to my bed (it's my alarm).
In the morning battery of V20 was empty, so I plug V20 to load battery.
I use original USB-C cable and charger.
When v20 was charged I tried to turn on.
LG logo appears, and later that red dot with Hello (Verizon animation), but animation suddenly freezes, and phone restarts.
And again, and again (until I take out battery). Verizon animation freezes in random moments, but always at begining.
Trying to hard reset/enter recovery fails (vol up + power, power).
Download mode (vol up + usb plug in) works.
In this mode i flash original stock firmware (version 13A) via LG UP + Uppercut (only in UPDATE mode, because REFURBISH doesn't work - I haven't unlocked bootloader)
But problem still exist.

I haven't had any problems. I'm on an H918. Owned it since March. Hope this helps.

I purchased an Essential Phone PH-1 from BestBuy. The first had issues, so I returned for another. I dropped that one and broke the screen, and got a new warranty replacement. The replacement has poor call quality, the charge LED turns green at 90% instead of 100%. I saw here that someone said that is normal Android behavior... However, the two Essential Phones prior to this one turned the charging LED green when it was 100%, not 90%. None of the other brands I've owned over he years exhibited that behavior either.
The issues plaguing this phone have me wondering if their is a difference between the retail unlocked version of the PH-1, opposed to one purchased from a carrier unlocked. I ask because, this phone that drops calls constantly, and suffers from poor call quality, has Sprint System files in the ROM, and my carrier is AT&T. Does anyone else not using Sprint as a carrier have these files on their PH-1?
To view, Touch Settings, Data Usage, Cellular Data Usage... Then touch Android OS to check for the Sprint System Files in the picture below

Not entirely sure but I would think Sprint files are in all builds. Otherwise, there would be 2 versions of every update, system image, etc. And there's just one.

I remember that Pixel phone had Verizon files in the ROM as well. These are placed there in case user would be using the phone on Verizon and in your case on Sprint.
there are CSC files for every major carrier worldwide in all the ROM's
having said that...it is still possible that unlocked Sprint ones are different. Lots of problems with those, Sprint says they are working on it though.
edit: i have carrier unlocked one from Amazon and it has that Sprint file in there too. Let me check our S8 and see if it has it.
it does not
There is an OpenUS and Sprint variant. To see which, start the device in fastboot mode by holding volume down and power button during bootup. It will say. FYI, bootloader locked has nothing to do with anything (in case that cattches your eye)
If you paid full price, you should have been given OpenUS version. However, there is no hardware difference between the 2 versions other than Sprint should be locked until Sprint releases/unlock it.
Make sure you are on latest OS.
90% green is normal on all essential phones, and also Pixels. Sprint files are normal.
Hopefully you performed a factory reset before writing about your unsolved problems. Although issues with this phone exist, they are "consistent issues". Only exception is the speaker grill variance.

Unless you are like me, and seem to have a PH-1 that doesn't have any specified Variant. My phone came from Sprint, is SIM and UICC unlocked (though I noticed the Variant aspect even before it was UICC unlocked), and it just says " Variant - " (just blank, no Sprint or OpenUS)
I opened a support ticket with Essential to see what they think.
Phone works great on T-Mobile, Sprint, and Project Fi (via T-Mobile). I am not sure if it is just my phone, but if I boot up (after a fresh restore) without a SIM, the phone starts up (eventually) the Sprint OMA-DM software to try and register. I thought that was interesting. If I boot up with a T-Mobile sim (after a fresh restore for instance) everything works as you would expect, no Sprint DM software starting at all.
Thank you for your opinions...
However, I'm out! Essential phone is over for me and for many reasons. I posted here to see if maybe I missed something. Despite comments on the charging LED turning green at 90% being normal, I'm here to tell you it is not based on the phone I dropped for this replacement. The phone I dropped had great reception, this replacement does not! The dropped phone was also void of those "Sprint" files. It also had a different feel and seemed to weigh a little more than this replacement phone and that isn't my imagination either. Resetting the phone to factory settings twice, does nothing for the phone's issues and Essential tech support, like PH-1 accessories, are non existent. I should have just purchased a flagship Samsung and rooted it if possible to get rid of the junk software. You live and you learn...

Thanks for participating, sorry it wasn't the right phone for you. For me it is a little different as it isn't my primary device (i have a S8+), but for the $150 I spent through the Sprint deal, it was totally worth it for my 2nd line/backup device. I do like Essential's goal, and agree support isn't very fast, but eventually I do communicate with them after submitting a ticket. Again, not as big of a deal of me as it isn't my primary device.
I hope the phone is successful, and that Essential gets some of these bigger bugs worked out through software.
