I've only had this phone for about a month and been running Havoc, I just upgraded the rom about 4 days ago. The screen just went blank out of nowhere yesterday, the phone is always on. Even when I boot into recovery or flashboot, still no display. The screen gets lighter when it powers up and you can access the storage, just no display. Obviously, I have no warranty. I'd just like to ask if this is a definite hardware problem or is there any possibility of it being a software issue (don't think so but could be wrong).
Much thanks in advance.

Try flashing stock rom from aft or fastboot if still the display doesn't work then it's a hardware issue
it might be a hardware issue.
Since nobody else seems to be having this specific issue, I've got to assume it is a hardware problem. Not overly thrilled with Asus at this point, I had one of their tablets randomly crap out on me not too long ago. Anyway, we'll see how far I get with customer service after "voiding the warranty", I've started an RMA with Asus and Banggood is requesting a video demonstrating the issue. I'll just follow up here if anybody is wondering how that process goes.

I picked up my Glacier used a couple of months ago. Everything seemed fine when I bought it, fine when I took it home, fine when I had CM6 on it.
I put CM7 on it recently and started using it as a daily driver. Now I have a problem - sometimes the backlight won't come back on when I go to unlock the phone! I can tell that the LCD is working by holding it up to a light source, but the backlight isn't doing anything at all.
The first time this happened, I thought, OK, probably CM7 nightly craziness. I yank the battery, turn it on, and... still nothing! The white mytouch logo screen comes on with zero backlight. Bad news, it seems like - I try rebooting again, this time to CWM recovery - still not working. Then, while I'm staring at it the recovery screen under a flashlight... *boom* it lights up. I didn't even do anything!
Since that time I've seen the problem recur several more times. Every time it eventually comes back to life, seemingly randomly, and I have no idea what the reason is.
So, questions:
1) Is it even possible that this could be a software problem at its core? The fact that the backlight was still off even on the boot logo and in CWMR makes it seem unlikely to me, but it's worth asking.
2) If it's *not* a software problem, since I bought this thing used, is there any chance that HTC or T-Mobile would honor the warranty if I flash it back to stock? I've never tried a warranty repair with HTC and I don't know what their policy on used gear is.
3) If it's a hardware problem and HTC won't fix it, is this repair something I can potentially do myself? I like to tinker with stuff and I'm not afraid to take things apart; I wonder if it could be something as simple as a loose cable, but I also wonder if it's the backlight itself.
4) Where can I source replacement components for this device? I tried to find a replacement backlight online, but I didn't have any luck.
Thanks!
I say, call up tmobile and ask for warranty replacement. Don't mention it was bought used and they probably wont ask. If they do ask, you could say you bought it outright online, not from their store or website. Amazon and places do sell them new, so they really can't know.
If they will not replace it, then you may need to tear into it.
Bump! Any other ideas?

I have the same issue. Were you able to fix it?
Now I've read about a problem of the hd2 having digitizer problems and that only a replacement will fix the unresponsive touchscreen issue. But why is it that when I can get my touchscreen to work that it works flawlessly until it goes to sleep? Then i have to continually wake and swype and sleep over and over until it responds. It just seems very weird that after it wakes that it never seems to have a problem. I'm using the miui rom right now and have set the screen to never go to sleep. So I want to see how long it will go without this problem. Has anyone else seen this happening with their phone as well?
Make sure the kernel, and Rom are up to date.
I have that too on an AOSP Gingerbread rom. The screen is not unresposive per se but calibration seems off some times, strage for a capacitive screen.
ive had the problem with android before and there were a few different fixes ...
one fix was to turn off compatibility mode
another was kernel
ive also had the problem with wp7 ( nothing a few hard resets and patience couldnt cure )
either way good luck
well since my first post, i hadn't let the phone go to sleep once and it worked perfectly fine. so i decided to turn off compatibility mode and let it go to sleep.... and when i woke it and i slid my fingers down it actually worked. so far it's worked every time. why would compatibility mode mess up the touchscreen though?
i have NO earthly idea! just a little tidbit i picked from a dev. i would speculate but would end up looking and sounding foolish. so im going to quit while im ahead and have actually been of help :-D cheers
Where can i disable compatibility mode?
I get the same problem. I've used a ICS rom for a day or so and suddenly the lockscreen was unresponsive. I thought it was ROM problem, so I flashed Cyanogen 7, but the screen didn't respond as well... I flashed everything to stock (removing magldr and hspl) and the problem stayed... After several restarts the screen started to respond and now it works (sort of). The tricky thing is: sometimes when I go out from some app in android, the screen doesn't respond again. Locking and unlocking the screen fixes this, but only temporarily.
Did this ICS rom screw something (...hardware?!) or is it a pure coincidence that a few people encounters the same problem for the first time in such a short period of time...
And one more thing... my warranty expired 5 days ago... please help!!!
I had this same problem with my phone before my warranty expired; before I flashed any android roms on it, and while it still had stock WM6.5. I called HTC customer support and they had me send in the phone for repair. They replaced the digitizer and I haven't had the same problem since. It was wierd because in my mind is seemed like a software problem because it would respond nicely as long as the screen was unlocked and the instant it was locked the response was very crappy, sometimes it took forever to unlock my phone. So it might somehow be a hardware issue

I repair phone myself and i can say that i get A LOT of hd2's with this problem. For the most part it is the hardware because no matter what software you put on the phone it is just a matter of the luck you have to get it working. My hd2 broke 2 times b4 and it was always hardware. Htc must of messed up with the hd2 digitizer

from what ive seen in photos of the leo mobo it looks like the connection for the screen/digitizer (not sure on hardware) is located right behind red end call/power button and from being mashed off,on,off,on,etc loosens/damages connection.
or is the hardware screen issue just a complete shot in the darks chance?
OH ... ive had the software issue (fixed as i mentioned earlier) AND unrepairable (with my limited tools and balls to physically tear into this badboy) hardware issues.
well, it's been a few days and my phone still seems to be fine. it hasn't once locked up on me yet. i don't know why turning compatibility mode would fix this. or maybe the phones connectors were loose and are now miraculously back in at the same time i unchecked compaibility mode. the only bad thing was that this was happening the last couple weeks and i had given up and already ordered a sensation 4g. or well, guess i have 2 phones now
Its seems possible. Every since I replaced my digitizer with a non OEM one its has never failed on me again. And I hope it never does. There dam expensive.

Compatibility Mode
I also have this issue, therefore I just recently flashed my hd2 with Tytung's 4.0 ICS Rom. As expected, this didn't help very much.. What I am now going to try before I send my phone to HTC is to disable compatiblity mode. BUT, I can't seem to find this compatibility mode check anywhere. Could someone please guide me there?

Windows 7
I will be flashing my phone with w7 now, to see wether this is an android kernel bug / softare issue or if this relates to hardware. I also see a lot of people saying that after fixing the digitizer it works again, so it might actually be a hardware issue. I will post my feedback when I have tried with w7.
Hey XDA, Really need some help here, i'll bullet point my problem for ease of reading:
- 1st Nexus 4 bought from google had wi-fi issues so got replacement
- 2nd replacement nexus 4 was good for about 2 weeks
- randomly screen touches weren't recognized by phone so reboot fixed that
- got worse and more frequent
- now my phone does not recognize screen touches at all
- phone is completely unusable, power volume buttons work though.
- need to ask XDA before another replacement ///
WHAT I'VE TRIED:
- i was on stock, so i tried to reflash stock to get rid of gravity stock and stock kernel
- rebooting phone 3950280359283 times.
- cleared caches.
- asked google play support, they're clueless.
- problem was here before i was unrooted, on complete stock 4.4.2
- also wondering whether its a software or hardware problem. i assume hardware however.
- i still have warranty
ANY IDEAS?!? thanks.
Does a touch recovery recognize touches? If so, it could be a problem of your rom/kernel. Otherwise I think it's a hardware problem.

My screen works now. However it will still come back every now and then and is fixed by a reboot. When i made this thread it did not work for a whole day, so my device will probably breakdown again. When I use TWRP it does not recognize touches. A good decider. So i guess it is hardware?
I think so, but wait for another reply confirming that.
I'd say it's a hardware issue. Definitely get it replaced again.

Lmao. You're definitely right. It's really annoying they sent me another device with a WORSE problem. Gonna ask google for some sort of compensation. I don't really have time to fiddle with devices re-rooting them transferring all my data again and so on. Too much work.
Good morning all,
my 6p looks completely dead. I've installed the latest Android O factory image from the Google Developer site, flashed it and was running withot issues until today.
I was about to write a comment on Facebook, and then the phone freezed. After seeing how the phone was not recoverying, I tried a hard reset by long-pressing the power and both the volume keys. Then, the phone got a black screen, didn't vibrate, and now looks totally dead.
It's not charging or responding in any way, no matter how I press it. I'm quite confident the phone was over 50% when this issue occurred.
I don't really know what coul've caused this, but on my side, the preview was flashed cleanly with a complete factory reset, and I've only restored media files, without rooting.
Any ideas as to what should I do?

Hi jmaclean, nothing, not even in Windows Device Manager...
I thought the Galaxy Nexus was a disaster but it appears that the 6P isn't far behind. Just bought a 6P (thankfully, a mint refurb) and am wondering if I made a bad mistake?

Yes a bad choice I would say - as an owner of a Nexus 6P device currently awaiting repair (thank god I'm in warranty) - I can tell you this device is plagued with issues that only become apparent as soon as your warranty is approaching expiry.
I love the phone, the design and build quality aesthetically speaking but would never be buying from Huawei again. The device is plagued with poor design that people believe leads to the CPU failing for some odd reason causing the dreaded bootloop issue.
My phone died literally in front of me and never worked again. I've contacted Huawei to get some clarification if this is an inherent fault as thousands are complaining about it and they just plain deny it and maintain if the warranty expires your out of luck. Apparently fixing the bootloop requires a motherboard change which in itself costs over $200 apparently. May as well get another phone for that as even the replacement component will eventually fail!
Sounds like a power issue. Maybe there's an open at the power switch or bad battery connector or battery. It most likely is nothing to do with Android oh it's just a coincidence. If you would have not even flashed Android O it would have still done this
seems like you will need to open up your nexus and unplug the battery, and then put everything together and try
I have owned this 6p for over 18+ months now. Never had any bootloop issues since day 1. A week ago i loaded factory image of Android O to this phone everything was working fine with great battery life.
I do not know if this is a coincidence with OP but i was also on facebook (chrome webapp) when during freshing of the page, the phone rebooted and since then it is stuck in bootloop.
I have connected to PC and reloaded the oreo stock image again and it completes successfully but again goes into bootloop. Any idea what should i do??

Follow the bootloop fix guide. I believe it's in the general or q and a section. It shuts down the big cpu cores but will get your phone going again. It worked for me. I was able to boot up and get some files off that hadn't been backed up yet. I was also able to use my phone until my RMA arrived.

Hey XDA, hoping for some help.
I bought a new Moto G4+ for my wife back in Sept of this year. I'm overseas and Motorola is unable to send me a shipping label to send the phone back. I figured I would reach out here since this will likely be better help than Motorola.
Problem: The screen of the phone stops responding. My wife uses her phone for the basics, Facebook, Whatsapp, Candy Crush, and doesn't have any weird apps on her phone. Mostly when using Facebook, she'll experience her phone screen stop responding to her touch. She can click the side button and turn the screen off and back on and it may respond to touch again, but it's unpredictable. It took me almost 30 minutes to get to her IMEI number when on tech support with Moto. Very frustrating.
I did a factory reset on the phone and saw the problem was still there she was syncing her account during set up.
Does this problem sound more like software or hardware? Would doing a true wipe and reinstallation of the ROM fix it or could it be the touch screen? Looking for any feedback on this issue.
@dbmavis123 as long as you didn't unlock the bootloader claim warranty.
I never heard such an issue so far. In my opinion it's a hardware issue. Unlock bootloader, flash whatever rom etc. is possible but didn't fix it for sure.
Maybe it's related to the ghost touch issue some display having, but this is at hardware problem.

I've done nothing to void warranty thankfully. Now I just have to figure out how to get the phone back to America
