Hi guys so I have huge problem, I wanted to move my GF's phone to a new one, I started setting up the new phone, but it didn't show me no backup.
So on the old phone (motorola moto x style) I:
1. enabled backup option
2. chose the account the data would be backed up to
3. synced the account in accounts setting
aaaaaand...nothing happened.
Google drive shows "Your device is not backed up" Why is that? I can't see no option to manually force/trigger the phone to backup, I'm on wifi, fully charged. Had anyone this problem? What can I do? I spent already 2 hours on google support chat but, they asked me to talk to motorola...

I have two phones using the same primary account. I have disabled the backup data to google option, because I don't want my app settings on both phones to be identical. Does anyone know if this backup feature is smart enough to keep the data from different phones separate? Or will my settings be overwritten with settings from the other phone for apps that back up to google?
I have the same account on 3 phones... MT4G, MT3G-Slide (backup phone) and a SamSux Behold 2 that I loaded with games and pulled the Dialer.apk and SMS/MMS.apk out so my 8yr old could have it (she calls it her "Android Touch because iPods suck") and Google backup only restores what was on each particular phone.
Example : I swapped out the ROMs on my MT3G-S today and when I logged into Google it only re-downloaded the apps that were on that phone before I wiped and installed new ROM, it did NOT include any of the apps or games I have on just the MT4G or just on the BH2.
EDIT : if you go to https://market.android.com/ after logging in with your account you will see "My Market Account" click that and on the left you'll see a tab labeled "Settings". when you click that you will see every android phone you have used that gmail account for.
I thought (possibly incorrectly) that "Back up data with my Google Account" only took effect when replacing your phone. For that reason I have it turned off on my 3 devices, but maybe I am being too cautious?
While on vacation this past weekend, my phone decided to go ahead and crap out on me..
I laid down for a nap, without plugging the phone in (15% battery left at the time) set the alarm for an hour, woke up 4 hours later. phone died either before the alarm could go off or when it was about to go off.
I plug in the phone for a half hour or so...
After a reboot due to a drained battery I got the new phone "Touch here" screen accompanied by a bunch of Force Close messages for just about every app that launches at start up: Launcher Pro, Weather Channel, Handcent, etc...
WTF?! random. I reboot, remove battery, reboot, reboot again: end up having to do a factory wipe. Wipe is a success, all of my contacts, calender info, email is synced, but none of my apps, games or bookmarks.
When I switched from TMO to Verizon I was pleasantly surprised to see all of my games and apps (free from market) were automatically downloaded and installed to my new phone by the time I got home.
Is this a Google feature? If so, how do I see if it's enabled/working properly.
If this is NOT a Google feature, what is it? How did my Droid X know what apps I had installed on my prior phone, where is this list remotely stored?
What exactly does "Backup Assistant" in "settings" back up? "Backed up = 17" that value has been the same since I did the wipe. What are those 17 items.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

The reason that your apps synced to your VZW phone is that information is stored as a part of your google account (gmail) so when you synced it to another phone, it pulled the information down for your account. You can disable this in that particular account's settings (backup my data to google...). The data is stored on Google's servers...
As far as backup assistant... This just backs up contact info that you explicitly saved to the phone, not to any google account. So if you manually entered numbers into the phone, but they are not associated with any google account you have synced to the phone, VZW's backup assistant will back these up.
I recommend relying more on Google...but it is merely a personal preference.

I do have "Back up my data" enabled under "Privacy Settings" as I always enable such settings after a wipe. What I would like to determine is *IF* that list of my apps, bookmarks & data data is indeed on Google's server and IS being updated.
Is there a way to view this list? Or at least confirm the last time it has been updated?

Hello there,
I bought a used Zuk Z1 and I am faced with this message "Sign in with a Google account that was previously synced on this device"
Of course I cannot get the previous owners email, and when I try with my email, it just rejects the input.
I have wiped and reset the phone but to no avail.
Have followed two youtube guides on solving the gmail account issue, but both failed to allow me access to the phone.
Downloaded all the tools I could find, but I cannot control the phone from my PC, as I cannot access the settings in order to allow the USB debugging option. However my PC sees the sd card of the phone
Excluding the fact that the phone seems to react normal, I cannot use it as it remains in the 3rd screen where it asks for the gmail account that has benn previously synced with...
Any ideas are more than welcome.
Thanks
I did a factory reset yet a certain app still recognizes me, so can't be the device ID it sees. My other guess is the IMEI that's saved in the phone, even though it has no sim card anymore, but I don't know how/where to change that. Any other IDs that apps can use to recognize a phone? I'm running Oreo 8.1.

Its happens via Google sync.
Many of us consider setting restoration to be a good thing. But, If you do not not want sync, do a full clean wipe, including format storage ( Note: When formatting storage you must immediately reboot to Recovery and click boxes if present to permanently install Twrp)
After install, you could choose to not backup from cloud and then afterwards, then go to accounts and uncheck whatever, you do not want syncing.
Another option is to flash your Rom and choose to not flash Gapps at all.
You can install apps anonymously using Yalp store via XDA labs.
You can also use Micro G : Here is a page that has links to Micro G and various other excellent apps.: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5t/themes/list-favorite-applications-oneplus-5t-t3739134
Actually, not saying that ur wrong because I'm sure it happens, but I found out that it was Facebook. Not really sure how embedded that can get into your phone. Before the factory reset, I had 2 Google accounts on the phone, my main one and an old backup on. I only put my main account on that phone for 1 game so I could play on either phone. But it was never my Google account it uses to save on their cloud, it's Facebook; for logging in you get bonus coin gifts from your friends, but I guess it uses that for game syncing. Because after the reset, I only added my backup Google account to that phone, yet after downloading the game again, it immediately started me off on my game that is normally on this phone, even though I wasn't logged in Facebook yet and it told me to login to get coin gifts. So I logged in with my Facebook that I never use that has the same email as my bbackup Google account, and that's when it restarted a new game for me.
Hi!
I had lots of trouble with my S7edge and did lots of flashing and resetting. At some point on 6.0.1 after factory reset I went quickly through the initial screens and was very surprised to get at some point a long list of accounts offered that I could transfer to this phone (they are not showing in my Google account now, it was Yahoo and such things). Those accounts were from an older Galaxy on the same account. I skipped that and wanted to use it later.
Now I updated to 8.0.0 and even on inital setup such a screen or offer never showed.
Any idea where I could find this? The strange thing is that I had Google cloud copies disabled wherever I could but assumed to have surely missed to deactivate sometime somewhere. Since the phone was totally wiped multiple times this data can only have come from the one Google account I used. But if I go to e.g. restore contacts it is empty as expected.
Where did Google/the phone find this rather exhaustive list of accounts from my other phone?
Google backups can only be restored on setup. So you have to factory reset to get those options again.

Oh wow - another fail there. The thing is I did not notice that option on the last reset after installing an Oreo system. Any reason why it wasn't offered? I think I removed the google account before upgrade and did the initial setup with signing up so as to not run into more trouble with FRP. So I guess not signing in with a google account in the setup screens - but hitting skip - will cancel any chance of restoring?

If you factory reset again, since there's no Google account on the phone if I understand you correctly, it will ask you again on setup. Don't you have other backups?

It's not about backups, I just wondered why it offered me restore in the first place despite me thinking all cloud backup was disabled. But then when I actually wanted to try and see what is backed up I can't without resetting the phone again. And I'm even doubtful it will ask again as it did not ask after the last ROM upgrade.
