Choppy slow motion - Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Questions & Answers

Basically, every rom I tried so far has choppy slowmotion, I heard a lot of people have this issue.
Is there any known fix?
So far i've tried; havoc, resurrection remix, pixel experience and lineage

known issue, but try letsmakecakes roms. some reported that its perfectly working.

Best 6.x 7.x ROM for the Nexus 7

What is the best ROM for performance for this device?
I'm currently on Pure Nexus (based on 6.0.1) it's quite smooth but what bugs me is that the audio stutters when trying to multitask, like browsing, opening other apps etc.
I would appreciate if someone could give me some advice on what ROM I should use for best performance and eliminates these audio stutters if possible, because I know this device is quite old and wasn't that fast even when it came out.

I'm not sure what model you have but I've tried out a few roms. CM12.1 and Resurrection Remix 5.5.7 work pretty good on my Tilapia. Dirty unicorns 7.1.1 is pretty cool but has some bugs

Would you recommend Pure Nexus Rom? It feels a bit laggy when browsing the internet sometimes.

I tried PNP but couldn't get gapps to jive with it. I gave up and tried something else
Honestly the AOSP 7.1.2 seemed to run the best, even google assistant works on it.
<updated to AOSP 7.1.2
It is running great so far.

What rom is the smoothest and stable? Did anything come close to stock?

I've tried AICP and lineage, both Oreo. Both had just don't run well when compared to stock ROMs. I see an OG pixel with similar hardware operate as smooth as butter. Any smooth ROMs?

Hi. I am currently with aosp extended 5.4 and it works very well between this and Validus 1.7 I think they are the best I've tried, in my opinion.
Oreo for our device as of now isn't in good state if you want the stability. Big battery drain and some minor different problems here and there are present in every oreo rom.
I'd suggest some stable nougat roms like omnirom, mokee or paranoidandroid. Battery life is good and phone feels perfect in everyday usage.
Aicp is one of the smoothest very good in nearly every way as is aosp extended, lineage,RR,aosip, validus and some I've missed (all oreo)are really good.I don't experience the lag and instability and battery is pretty good too.

Lagging Flashlight

Ever since leaving stock FW, I have noticed that the double chop for flashlight has lagged a little. Like I'll chop, maybe a second or two before it turns on. This happens on every rom I have tried. Lineage 14.1, Pixel Experience and AEX. Happen to anyone else?

I had this issue with the HAL1 implementation of @jhenrique09. But with the latest HAL1 and HAL3 mixed implementation by @vache that lag is no more. With the end of second chop flashlight will turn on. I believe that you are on one of the older Roms.

Which roms have HAL1 & HAL3? Also, what is HAL? I am on Lineage 14.1 20180520-UNOFFICIAL-potter.
EDIT: Is lineage 15.1 as stable as 14.1? How bout battery life?
EDIT 2: Has the camera been fixed on Oreo yet?

I was saying about Oreo based roms. They are pretty stable. But not as much as N based roms.
Lineage 15.1 by @vache is quite stable with the camera. Almost everything works except HDR mode in Moto cam and video recording from Moto cam shows wrong duration.
This is the lineage build I am talking about.

If you are happy with N based roms, it's advised to stay there until Oreo roms become much more stable.

Stock Vs Custom Rom

I used the stock rom for my device and decided to try some custom rom for a Le 2, it really does an incredible job for the developers but we are full of different versions and all with the same Bugs, especially the camera never works well. Hopefully you could focus the work on one and get a good rom and not new projects every day that are generally good but have errors that in some moments of daily use make us want to return to something stable and work perfectly.
It is not for less to value the work, it is only a point of view.
I personally consider that the best work is on the side of Pixel Xperience but it is only my personal opinion, even though the camera does not work very well, the fingerprint reader usually fails in some apps among other things.

The latest release of PixelExperience fixes a lot of the issues it had, give it another shot, you'll love it.

Is the best custom rom. Just doing a good management of applications in the background can give you 5 to 6 hours of screen on each load. before I only had 3h. the night mode crash for moments but work fine
Camera is the deal-breaker
I have tried custom ROMS including codeworkx' lineage 14, lineage 15.1 by rk85, and pixel experience pie but in every single one the camera is damn near unusable. There are many gcam ports that sometimes work but with major issues particularly lags, crashes, inability to record video, and just frequent lack of reliability. Apps like camera fv-5, footej, and open camera are also quite bad even though they are the recommended ones because stock cameras just don't work. Performance is also not good and instability creeps in quickly when you push the phone like by playing games or benchmarking.
The only custom ROMS I can commend are miui and EUI-based ones which are all Marshmallow. Miui heating and battery drain is a serious issue and slim eui has unfixable play store issues. The only custom ROM I can recommend as a daily driver is SmallEUI v3. I hear mokee is also good but doesn't have as good battery life as SmallEUI. Custom ROMS are fine for experiencing new Android version features but I don't see any of them becoming daily driver material.

My 526 has been on MIUI pro 8.9.20 for weeks - longest staying on any rom so far. No problem with overheating or battery drain at all, have not used camera much though.

For the few times you've used the camera, how does it compare with stock camera? Does it record 4K? Slow-mo? Image sharpness and detail? Your average SOT?
Sorry, I don't use this function long enough to compare.

For you, what was the smoothest + most stable out of Android 7,8 and 9 roms for x722?

Hello all. I'm only concerned about finding a stable, fast and smooth rom (without major bugs) running android 7 or above for the x722, as it is my only device. Currently using Paranoid Android (PA, my very first custom rom installation) found here https://forum.xda-developers.com/le...aranoid-android-7-3-1-x722-elite-zl0-t3706478 and it is smooth as silk but battery consumption is too high when in standby and the rom has sadly been abandoned. Therefore looking for an alternative.
I'm simply afraid (based on what i read in threads) that the newer android 8 and android 9 roms may have lag after a few weeks and that the android 7 roms may have been discontinued with pending bugs (i read threads here and on zl0 rom threads in the larger pro 3 forum, based on their last post dates and unresolved questions for fellow x722 users) so i would be really really really grateful for any information/knowledge based on your experiences. Mention your Gcam version/name if you use it please, and what phone firmware you are on (mine came with 20s).
Just to sum up: I don't mind whether it is an android 7, 8 or 9 rom, i just want it to be stable, smooth, fast and free of major/crippling bugs (stable for everyday use). I don't want an eui based rom as eui does not have the 'reply within a notification feature' and grouped notifications found in vanilla android 7+. That feature allows me to view messages from multiple senders in whatsapp without opening the app and then reply to any of them which is super convenient! Also eui roms wouldn't support any Gcam as it is Android 6 based.
Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge and experiences
Ps: reason i initially came looking for a custom rom was because my vendor 20s rom was awful at ram management, was ugly, lacked the wonderful notification reply features seen in Android 7 and above. And finally started lagging when typing in my keyboard app (Gboard)! PA was a revelation in how smooth & fast this phone could be
WARNING: I have a X727 zl1, not a X722 Zl0, check out if your phone version its compatible
For me, the most stable rom are Oreo's Rom.
I am using right now DotOS 2.4. non major issues.
Magisk 18.1
Dolby completely functional
Good battery
Beautiful UI
Gcam work perfectly
Lot of setting
BT/Wifi/Signal 4G-LTE work fine
Like you, I seek for battery and stability and I've had tried almost any Rom out there, Nougat, Oreo, Pie and MIUI
Nougat fault: Mic and Audio Issues and almost any Rom. Just last Omni was good but had kernel issue, Randomly shutdown few times at day.
Oreo: Very good mostly. Bootleggers its almost perfect, but had Bluetooth issue (cut sound when screen goes off)
But its very good option. Best for me, cDroid, DotOs, Bootleggers. Don't flash custom kernel on DotOS, won't boot and you must to flash Rom over.
Pie: I had a lot issue on Pie. Battery Drain mostly. Some Rom had issue to get Dolby Funtional and some Magisk Module disappeared after reboot. For example in AICP I cant get funtional Dolby and Gcam at same time. If Dolby work, Gcam get infinite focus, after reboot, Gcam work fine but Dolby disappeared... crazy stuff... Also, (I dont know if that was fixed) screen cast is no possible on Pie Roms.
MIUI: its a little messy and need some tweaks to get good working. Had warming issue and Gcam had issue to work. Also is not multilingual (I speak spanish).
Good luck...

Thank you so much for giving such a detailed response! ^_^ I'll look into compatibility with my x722 (zl0) but it is good to know the various issues on the different ROMs, and now i know which oreo ROMs to check compatibility with mine. Thank you again for sharing your experience, it'll help others on zl1 who stumble upon this thread too
It'd be nice if this became a discussion thread where people continue to share their experiences
Sharing info I found on various threads for others reference

I don't have any of those problems on latest AICP 14 build.
Dolby digital+ and some different GCam ports working without problem and battery draining is not bad really (about 6hrs. SOT with 4G and relatively light usage).
Also screen cast (Miracast) is working alright.
AICP Pie rom is the best, I'm using it for a year now.

How is your battery consumption on it? Got any performance lag an year later compared to when it was flashed?
Thanks
AOSIP Pie is the best ROM I used, very fast, I have 7/8 hours of sot without greenify or any mod for battery, fingerprint is very fast too, great performance
