Im using S10+ exynos version
I'm pretty sure that's a software bug with the always on display. You can turn off the AOD completely or do a search for Galaxy S10+ AOD bug because there was a less drastic fix by turning something off in settings.

Turn of double tap to wake.

It's a bug which plague s10 series. It never been fixed yet... You might try turning off the double tap to wake or some other settings.... It reduce it drastically but not completely.
There is a setting under display for accidental touch that prevents phone screen lighting up when in pocket or a bag. Turn that setting on.

Autobrightness, when enabled, will take 2-4 seconds to adjust the brightness... so you feel its underbrightened...you can disable it and keep brightness maximum, then it will surely decrease the battery life
OP - also make sure you are not holding the phone by the ambient light sensor when the auto brightness is not bright enough for you.
As far as I know "Auto adjust screen power" will limit the maximum available brightness, so you might try to turn it off.
Do you know if the option to save energy for the screen actually saves energy?

One of the sensors to the left from the ear piece. If you grab the phone with your fingers on top and bottom, like in landscape mode, you can easily cover the sensor. Also some thick cases can cast shadow in the area of the sensor and throw off the autobrightness.
But yes, also make sure you have power saving mode off.
ok thanks to you all, i'll try turning down power saving..i'll let you know!
I'm glad I came across this tread as I noticed this too on my phone and started thinking it was a bug. I definitely am not covering the sensor and even placed the phone in direct sun light. I'll try turning the power saving off and see how it affects battery life and the brightness.

Power Saving Mode has nothing to do with brightness unless someone manually modify it.

I notice that if its the last of my battery the screen will stay dull
My phone screen would turn on to show the clock only over a black background when let's say I throw in on the bed or put down "not gently". Does this happen to everyone or is this a feature Google added?

yes, you can turn off that feature... Settings-Display-Turn off Ambient Display.
that's cool that this setting can be turned off, but with the setting turned on mine does it without even moving. I set it down, it does the screen/clock thing, turns off, then just keeps doing it what seems randomly. Anyone figure have that problem?
An app could be causing that behaviour. In my case I found it was LightFlow, I uninstalled it and no more strange behaviour from the Ambient Display.

I get this too! I want ambient display set to on (so when I pick the phone up, I can quickly see the time, without unlocking it) but I don't understand why when it is flat and still, there is this random, intermittent screen clock thing

I had the same issue with Lightflow. Using Light Manager now.
I've noticed having notifications will have the screen coming on every few seconds even though the phone is not being moved. Had this happen on my Nexus 6 as well.
So far I hard reset my phone 2x to get it working because my 2nd screen won't stay on after main screen is off. I do even get notifications. I have the settings to stay on. .. not sure what's going in with phone...even my quick charging stopped working. Miss my note 4

Mine goes off if the phone isn't being used. I think it's normal.

Make sure you're not covering the ambient light sensor on your phone. It's right in the upper left hand corner next to the front camera. (To test, with the main screen off and second screen on, If you cover the sensor with your finger on a normally working V20, after a few seconds the second screen should shut off.)
So my guess is if you're sure your Settings are set up correctly, you probably have a faulty or miscalibrated ambient light sensor on your device that's shutting the second screen off, and you should either find a way to re-calibrate the sensor or get your device replaced.

Same here, what's latest update?
Hi man, I've been searching thru forums all day. Basically, I have the same issues, 1. Not fast charging (only usb-charging) 2. Second screen off when screen is off (despite the settings are set not to)
I'm on the edge of hard factory reset with very limited hopes and my ultimate guess is this is a motherboard issue.
Have you been able to fix yours?
Second screen stays off.!
Yesterday, I was working to upgrade the apps, and install some missing bloated apps by LG Electronics ltd. through the web server, i.e. apkmirror and I don't know exactly what happened. My LG V20 (LS997) Second screen stays off just apparently showing with dark ambient display that is useless at all. The display only shows with media contents by setting up with 'More' as well, and not work even all.
Fixed!! I had the same problem when every time I enabled second screen it would disappear. After looking everywhere I was able to fix it by going to the battery saver settings and pressing on the 'battery saver' option under 'power saving'. Then press 'edit mode'. Make sure 'block use of second screen' is unchecked. That should stop it from being disabled.
Is anyone else having an issue with the AOD randomly turning itself off? I keep mine on during the day, but at times I don't see it on my screen, so I'll go into the settings and see that it's set to "off". I can't figure out what's turning it off.
check your proximity sensor, it might be the problem

The "always on screen" turns itself off when in your pocket. It uses the proximity sensor to do this. If there is a problem with your proximity sensor then it may turn off randomly.

Is there a way to calibrate it? I'm coming from the LGG3 and I used to be able to calibrate the proximity sensor on that phone, but I can't find the setting here

I'm not sure because I don't have any issues with it... How did you calibrate it on the G3?

Mine will temporarily appear to be off when Nova kills the screen after I knock. Eventually comes back on when Nova's control times out.

I don't think it's the proximity sensor since he is saying he goes into settings and AOD is completely off.
Do you have it set to turn off at certain times of the day?
Check your on/off times, too.
In display settings, "always on display"
"daily timeout" - see if that is set to turn off display when you don't want it turned off?
Can also turn brightness up. I did because outside in the sun it is impossible to see.
Also found in "battery saver" another setting. "Block Use of Always On Display"
Might have this ON?
Hi, I am using my OP 8 pro at 120hz Qhd with auto brightness off but I can still observe brightness change shortly after opening some apps.
Is anyone aware of a ADB command to put screen settings to definitive values?
Do you have eye comfort on or off?
Ambient on or off?
Also bare in mind that the auto brightness toggle is at the end of the brightness slider.
In regards to the apps, if it's in gamemode then it could be raising it for that then reverting. Check settings for game mode or turn it off altogether and test.
