Hi, i currently live in toronto, canada, and i use rogers as my provider. when i put my sim card (from rogers) and turn on the phone, the phone says that it the network cannot find something (provider i think), and i should update my software. it then takes me to the "network connections" where i choose my country, and my provider. i notice that Canada is not in that drop down box. can someone please tell me how i can go about choosing Canada, or do i have to flash with a modded firmware instead of an original firmware? please answer!

Same thing happened here, I live in Brazil and it is not in the drop down list. I just choose dismiss (or something like that) as soon as the first message appears, followed by "do now show message again" (or smth like that).
Been using the phone without any problems so far.
oh yea? ok t hats cool. do you think you can help me out then..
i dont understand what 3G EDGE GPRS are.. like because im with the provider, i do not want to be charged more than just calling people.
when i plug in my sim card, do you know what is supposed to be displayed on the top of the dopod, near the Signal strength?
and could you tell me what each of those three mean? thankss

Answer:
3G-Video calling using the secondary camera (which we can't use yet in canada)
EDGE- Basically high speed data transfer (since you are with rogers, I believe there are data plans that support that feature)
GPRS-Never use it, cuz it charges on your airtime using the towers

In Calgary downtown Rogers services, my CHT9100 can get 3G signal (showed small 3G icon on the top); other places alway has EDGE signal (showed small E icon instead).

ok, then normally if i dont want to be charged with anything other than having signal strength and making calls, what normally shows near the signal strength? i guess my question really is: if i dont want EDGE, 3G or UTMS or anything, what should i be seeing beside the signal strength?

You can call Rogers and tell them you don't want any data services, then you should see a X icon right beside your signal strength level...
Ok when i put it in it says:
Network Wizard
Your current operator (30272) is not supported. You should obtain an update from your device vendor.
Would you like to select another network provider?
I want to put canada in it.. if anyone knows how to do it please post!!

Oh really?? Is that the 3G will be available to all Canada customers or just a few cities only?
But I cannot see this announcement in the Rogers website though.

i called fido, and apparently (the perosn on the phone told me) that one of the two (3G or EDGE) is not charged. he said something about a price/kb for one of the two, and that the other one doesnt have a charge..

Agreed. I disabled all data way back when I had a regular phone. I kept getting random data charges when I never loaded my browser so I just disabled it. Anyway, I get the 3G logo, however, I haven't tested out the transfer rates or anything like that. I don't know if you can boost the signal or anything, I manage to make calls (which are surprisingly perfectly clear) with 1 bar.
I get the Edge logo on my phone in vancouver. I do know that they charge for Edge usage here and there was a big promo for unlimited Edge usage for about $40 bucks per month posted on craigslist.com. I know 3G network has been built, but probably a few good years before it's affordable to use.
My friend and I are on the same carrier (T-mobile) and own the same type of phone, he has the T-Mobile S4 and I the GPE S4 (I9505G, I think?). I have the same quoted data plan as him from a pre-existing family plan and am supposed to be receiving 4G LTE service. We are both at the same location and his status bar reads LTE and mine only H (for what I assume is only HSPA(+)).
Does the GPE S4 truly not have the LTE band(s) necessary to cover T-Mo's LTE network, is this just a difference in software/labels or is this something I have to go to T-Mobile and get upgraded on my plan?
Please don't flame/troll for I am but a lowly n00b to this topic.

No worries ur phone go perfect. Only u are using different ROM than ur friend. If u want take a look:
~ Apps - Settings - Connections - More networks - Mobile networks - Network mode - And see u have LTE there... For the icon no worries coz is an early update of 4.4. They will add the icon later in next update maybe
Hello people,
I have recently acquired a Note 3 LTE (Snapdragon 800) model of the phone which is 4G compatible but for some reason, I get no option to select a 4G network. The only options I have to chose from is 3G/2G (auto connect) and 3G only. I have attached a screenshot below showing what I mean. On other Note 3 LTE phones, I've seen a different set of options such as LTE/WCDMA/GSM etc...
Why is it so? I am running the latest version of android according to Samsung update which is version 4.3. So is this a software issue or what? My service provider says that samsung should release a software update to solve this issue but I don't understand why this is the case. If anyone can clarify this issue for me I would be very glad.
Thanks!

I am in Beirut, Lebanon.
I also have a Galaxy S4 with the latest updates and I get a 4G connection in certain areas. So yes, 4G had already been activated by my provider.
I've attached another screenshot because I am not sure what you mean by firmware version.
Can you compare the S4 and Note 3 "apn settings" to see if they are the same? You might have to manually input your carrier's apn settings into the note.

The apn settings are the same since they have been both configured automatically when the service provider sent the settings to be saved.
What else could it be?

Try flashing one of the other LTE N9005 roms and see if you get the listings under settings appear( backup first). I know some roms take this option out like at&t here in the states.

Better yet try this:

Hi guys.
I am facing a somewhat similar issue. What makes it different is that I had the LTE option when I bought the Note 3, although there was no 4G service in the country at that time. However, I think it was after an update that I no longer have the LTE option available to in my network settings. Right now, in my home country, LTE hasnt yet been introduced. But like I said, there was no LTE in my previous country of residence either yet I had the LTE option.
By the way, the code *#2263# does nothing at all on my set.
Appreciate any feedback and resolutions.
Thanks

If your phone is rooted (seems like it isn't) then you can manually edit a config file to enable LTE. If not, you'll be waiting for another OTA update I think.

Hello , I have a USIM, and note3 4G ( bought from KSA and tried on 4G in Dubai and KSA) . I did not get any updates on wifi nor through kies .
Did you change you upload a new platform ( kitkat) before you got the update ? or did you just wake up and found an update ?
PS : I live in Beirut Lebanon too .
Thanks
Me too with the same problem
I bought my phone from Dubai.. i saw the LTE option when i used my phone there.. but then i flashed Poland's latest firmware and rooted my device.. now i am in South Asia , and my phone doesn't show any LTE option..! :silly: weird..
I'll say it again: Each CSC has a different list of 4G activated providers that are not directly related to the region they are in.
Which means that a device can have 4G activated for 50 providers, just not the one your SIM belongs to. As such, if you insert the SIM, the 4G toggle is disabled.
Each provider has to individually pass on the fact that they have 4G to Samsung. Even then it's not activated for each CSC.
As such, my DBT Note 3 had 4G on T-Mobile NL months before the TL and PHN ROMs had it.
Also, South Asia uses a different frequency your EU firmware can't detect.

*#*#4636#*#* and select GSM from networks.
Not an issue for us Aussies. 2G has been dropped by Telstra with the other carriers to follow suit.

So even if there is no option to select 2G manually, 2G will be selected in case if there is no 3G or 4G is available.
u cannot do it in settings, when u boot at 1st it works on 2g, once u go to the settings and switch to 3g, u won't be able to switch it to 2g, u'll have to do it by going to phone information after typing *#*#4636#*#* which is reset on every reboot and every time ...u go to settings... :/
Why even use 2G? They are phasing that out worldwide anyway. Honestly HSPA is on the list too of eventually phasing out. If your thinking it's gonna help battery life your talking minutes of difference if that.
Same Here...
2G option itself is not available, only 3G and 4G in Second slot Options itself is Hidden not able to change any thing.

I wouldn't say that! it saves a lot of standby battery!! HSPA is okay okay... LTE drains battery like anything... It works perfectly especially if u have wifi at your home and office... and all u need is internet while travelling... wherein you can see the difference... I can blame my habit too... i always love to see the battery bar white!!

Hey guys, I need some help from a genius:
I had my Mi 9T imported to the USA on a whim, fully expecting to have to send it back for incompatibility (I have AT&T, and the 9T doesn't support either main band for this carrier). HOWEVER, to my surprise this phone is quite good and I actually do get decent coverage here WITH one major drawback:
The network keeps reverting back to 4G!
Whenever I lose LTE coverage, it reverts back to 4G, just like my iPhone, but then it stays stuck in 4G! The only way to get it back to LTE is to go into settings, SIM cards & mobile networks, SIM card settings, and then change the preferred network type from LTE to 2G only then back to LTE, which kicks it back into LTE mode (this can also be done from the secret Phone information menu in the about phone section).
Solutions?? If I can't figure this out I'll have to send the phone back within the next 5 days for a refund, but I would really like to keep it. I literally created an account here just to ask this question. Thanks in advance!

It could be the band you are connected to, try "network signal guru" from the play store, you can see which band your phone is connected to! You can also disable bands with it. but you will need root though!
