Since I have enabled the fingerprint lock I can no longer do voice dialing from my bluetooth device (until I unlock it first). Has anyone else encountered this?
Yes. It's been fairly common on smartphones over the past decade or so to not allow voice dialing when pin locked (or in this case, fingerprint). Not sure why.
So far I haven't looked into alternatives...I just don't voice dial when it's locked (or unlock it first).
yea i figure this too that sucks TBH perhaps if you can dial would be a "bypass" of security so maybe thats why, you should have a option to enable this as feature
Yes, especially frustrating when you live where it is not legal to talk on the phone without a hands free device!
It worked fine on my BlackBerry Tour... bummer. Any workarounds for it?
A little googleing reveals that on some Androids it apparently works, as it does on iPhone. Hmmm... starting to wonder if I chose the right phone.
Voice Dialing without unlocking phone
Has anybody found a workaround for this yet?
This has been getting particularly annoying as of late - both in the car and on foot. What's the point of voice dialing if you have to pull out the phone first? BT headsets must be pre-synced with the phone, so allowing this isn't even that significant of a security breach, unless you lose your BT headset along with the phone.
Do we even know what component prevents us from voice dialing when the phone locks? Is it part of the lock screen? Of the android kernel's security? Or is it a hidden setting/permission that perhaps a more experienced developer can help us find? I don't know enough about Android yet to even begin to know where to look . . .
It annoys me the most when double click my bluetooth for redial but it doesn't respond...

I use the 'delayedlock' app to unlock the phone when it detects my BlueAnt S4 is connected. Works fine. The phone relocks itself once the S4 is disconnected.
cmccabb,
Thanks, I will check that out. I assume you use the Bluetooth plugin for "Delayed Lock?"
Maybe once our phones go to Gingerbread we this will be fixed. Maybe.

Yes. I also use the wireless plug in to keep it unlocked at home.

i have the same problem. ive always used the fingerprint, but it wasnt until i got new BT headset when it started. so it could be the headset also. My old one would do voice commands when locked. im gonna search for that app too see how it works.
Just off the top of my head:
If you have Tasker, you can set it to deactivate the screen lock when a bluetooth device is connected.
Create a new profile
Select state > Bluetooth connected
New Task > Display > Keyguard > Set Off
Then you can set an exit task to turn the keyguard back on
This is now fixed in gingerbread.

Actually mine went from working in 2.2.2 to now not working in 2.3.4... screen flashes a bunch of times but wont unlock... cant bluetooth call unless I unlock the phone first. This is very annoying!
It should be a bug at some custom ROMs. You may try to flash the Custom ROM "CherryBlur 1.4d", the bluetooth dialer is still alive. However, it has battery drain issue. The battery may support around 12~14 hours even you switched to the maximum battery saver mode.
p.s. assumed that you have to enable the "Allow Bluetooth bypass" option in the system setting.

Running stock Gingerbread. I frequently use Bluetooth with no problems at all. I use fingerprint sensor all the time. Never need to unlock to receive an incoming call.
On Alien #4 - and in Stock too, I think - I've got the option to "Bypass over Bluetooth" as last menu entry in the lock settings. Do you have that menu point and have you tried that?

Yes! The bluetooth headset may redial the last outgoing call and receive the incoming call without any problem. But it cannot wake up the phone when you activate the bluetooth voice dialer in some Custom ROMs.
Finally, I identify that the issue was caused by the overclock kernel. Because "CherryBlur 1.4d" includes the standard kernel without any overclock / under voltage setting, the bluetooth voice dialer can operate perfectly.
Dear Samsung Focus users,
I really need your help and suggestions. I bought an unlocked samsung focus last week and I love it! But I have this problem:
- I cannot receive text messages until I reboot the phone
- After I reboot the phone, text messages will start flying in to my inbox
- Then the problem starts again and I have to reboot the phone to retrieve new text messages
I live in the basement but I have no trouble calling or sending and receiving SMS with my previous phone.
I hope it has something to do with the OS thus they can fix it.
Thanks!
Sometimes I get it where the device thinks it's on the network, but won't use cellular data or SMS. I'll see this after being in the basement for a few hours with a signal that fades in and out.
Try turning on Airplane mode, wait 5 seconds, and turn airplane mode off. It should reconnect to the network and start running again.
I've seen this on 'droids, WinMob 6, and on the iphone 3 as well. I've just sort of figured it was the radio chip giving up on retries. I could be wrong, but recycling the radio seems to work for me.

when you have no signal, the operator will keep trying several times during different time spaces until your phone gets it. the problem with focus is that they quit trying to received. i dont know but only works after a reboot. In other phones you just need to wait till next carrier push try. i think its a bug, probably to unlocked phones. I have an At&T unlocked focus.
I am having the exact same problem. I dont know what to do
Count me in.
I am also experiencing this issue.
Here are my thoughts on the issue.
1. I bought the phone from Rogers (GSM)
2. I bought an Unlock code from the web (SIM Unlock only)
- You know you're device is carrier locked if you cannot run Samsung's Network Profile App, or if it shows no other profiles in the list. The app is available on the marketplace.
3. I use the phone on SaskTel's 4G network (Saskatchewan UMTS/HSPA+)
Now my thought is this.
Whichever settings are not provided by SIM are set by the Network Profle xml that is specific to each carrier.
My assertion is that if you cannot change Network Profiles via Samsung's app, you cannot use your 'carrier free' (AKA SIM unlocked) device on another network without some hiccups.
If someone can figure out how to enable Samsung's Network Profile on a carrier purchased device, I'd be happy to hear how it's done.
I should also note that I've since developer unlocked via Chevron's WP7 tools with no change (Installed NoDo right after).
If someone knows what the network profile xml actually sets and can figure out an alternate way to set the settings..... ie Registry editor, etc. We would appreciate this.

you may try the fix posted on page 2 of this forum for sms not receiving. It worked for me and not having any problems since.
Hi, I remember seeing a great feature during the S4 presentations. I have my phone passcode locked all the time. This feature allowed the phone to detect your home WiFi network and when it's detected, it turns off the passcode so you don't have it on at home. It will then put the passcode lock back on as soon as you leave the set WiFi network. I've searched everywhere through the phone and can't find where to do enable this feature.
Please help anyone?
Unfortunately it doesn't seem to have made it into the shipped device, or the manual. Maybe it'll arrive as an update?

Or something you can set up using Tasker?
Llama will support this as well.
So is there an option to add a trusted wifi network for smart unlock?
I know I can add my house location, but I don't want to have gps turned on all the time and even so, it's not the most accurate in this regard. I'd rather just have my phone smart unlock when i'm connected to my home wifi.
I thought I saw it somewhere in the settings at one point but I can't find it now... thanks for the help!

Location mode>battery saving should do it.
There is no smartunlock via trusted wifi source, not yet at least. Its something I see a lot of people complaining about (myself included). The unlock by location is extremely unreliable, even when you set a ton of location points around your hour or work.
Having an option to purely remove lock based on which wifi network you're connected to would be amazing.
Once xposed hits you can do this with gravity box. Ravio said his first year version should be out this week. /crossesfingers
Only got my Nexus 6P (H1512) a couple days ago, I did hear that 6.0.1 corrected the smart lock bug for some people, however smart lock is still very unstable for me (fails at work, and at home, about once each per day). Smart unlock by wi-fi connection would be very welcome.

it's available now. you need to install xposed. once xposed set up, there's a couple modules that will do this for you. my fav at the moment is Gravity Box for Marshmallow.

add your home computer as a bluetooth trusted device
I wish I could add a tile as a trusted by device that's at home on my luggage. I just recently uninstalled xposed for Android pay. Forgot how annoying the trusted location was

They problem is the tile doesn't show up in Bluetooth devices, so I'm not sure how to make it work with anything besides it's own app.
Hello, I have an unlocked Samsung galaxy s7 edge (SM-G935U) using the Verizon network. This issue started after the most recent security update (Android Security Patch Level August 1, 2016) could maybe be a coincidence though, so when I make a call with a Bluetooth device connected I don’t lose LTE connection. When I make a call with a Bluetooth device connected and running a data app like google maps or Pokemon go I will lose LTE completely (the LTE symbol will disappear). until the phone call is over and any calls after this happens. I have tired unpairing and pairing it, I have tried different Bluetooth devices. I can make normal calls without a Bluetooth device and its fine, so it’s not a network issue. When I contacted Samsung tech support , They had me clear all Bluetooth data, reset app preferences, wiped the cache from the recovery menu, and formatted the phone. Samsung at one point told me I can't use data while on the phone Bluetooth or not (what is this 2010? and I don't have AT&T). I tested that and the phone allows me to use data fine while on the phone.
Samsung wants to replace the phone but I think that isn't going to help. Anyone else experiencing this issue? or any ideas what I can do to fix it?
