[Q] Problems with Receiving SMS - Focus General

Dear Samsung Focus users,
I really need your help and suggestions. I bought an unlocked samsung focus last week and I love it! But I have this problem:
- I cannot receive text messages until I reboot the phone
- After I reboot the phone, text messages will start flying in to my inbox
- Then the problem starts again and I have to reboot the phone to retrieve new text messages
I live in the basement but I have no trouble calling or sending and receiving SMS with my previous phone.
I hope it has something to do with the OS thus they can fix it.
Thanks!

Sometimes I get it where the device thinks it's on the network, but won't use cellular data or SMS. I'll see this after being in the basement for a few hours with a signal that fades in and out.
Try turning on Airplane mode, wait 5 seconds, and turn airplane mode off. It should reconnect to the network and start running again.
I've seen this on 'droids, WinMob 6, and on the iphone 3 as well. I've just sort of figured it was the radio chip giving up on retries. I could be wrong, but recycling the radio seems to work for me.

when you have no signal, the operator will keep trying several times during different time spaces until your phone gets it. the problem with focus is that they quit trying to received. i dont know but only works after a reboot. In other phones you just need to wait till next carrier push try. i think its a bug, probably to unlocked phones. I have an At&T unlocked focus.

I am having the exact same problem. I dont know what to do

Count me in.
I am also experiencing this issue.
Here are my thoughts on the issue.
1. I bought the phone from Rogers (GSM)
2. I bought an Unlock code from the web (SIM Unlock only)
- You know you're device is carrier locked if you cannot run Samsung's Network Profile App, or if it shows no other profiles in the list. The app is available on the marketplace.
3. I use the phone on SaskTel's 4G network (Saskatchewan UMTS/HSPA+)
Now my thought is this.
Whichever settings are not provided by SIM are set by the Network Profle xml that is specific to each carrier.
My assertion is that if you cannot change Network Profiles via Samsung's app, you cannot use your 'carrier free' (AKA SIM unlocked) device on another network without some hiccups.
If someone can figure out how to enable Samsung's Network Profile on a carrier purchased device, I'd be happy to hear how it's done.
I should also note that I've since developer unlocked via Chevron's WP7 tools with no change (Installed NoDo right after).
If someone knows what the network profile xml actually sets and can figure out an alternate way to set the settings..... ie Registry editor, etc. We would appreciate this.

Accept button does not work on incoming calls

I am part of a corporate group that just started using the Palm Treo Pro, through Bell. We have in excess of 30 phones across the company, and 90% of the users are unable to accept incoming calls. The calls show on the screen, the phone rings, but neither the accept soft button on the bottom of the screen or the send button on the phone will allow us to pick up the call. The call then goes to voicemail, then we get notifications that we missed a call.
The strange thing is that about 4 out of 6 calls have this happen. Then out of the blue, it will work, then the next call it will not accept it. I have done a hard reset on the phone, no third party apps running either.
Anybody else seeing this? I have yet to find any major problems with this phone through research, so are we the only ones to see this problem?
I have a Bell Treo Pro phone as well, I have never had any of these issues, I am sorry to hear.
Re: Unable to answer calls
I have had this happen multiple times. Each time I traced it down to whichever profile manager I had installed, whether it was Gprofile, PhoneAlarm, SPB Phone Suite and several others. Once I uninstalled the software no more problems answering calls. I wish that PhoneAlarm wouldn't cause this problem as the ability to automatically switch profiles based on time or appointment status was awesome - no more ringing phone when in a meeting because I forgot to mute the phone.
So the only time this issue has presented itself is with a profile manager? Nobody in our company has installed a profile manager of any kind, there may be some various third party apps, but these don't seem to make any difference. We are now thinking that we have a batch of defective phones.
Thanks for the responses!

Possibility
AFAIK, Bell Canada runs on a CDMA network? I haven't seen the band settings for a CDMA version of the Treo Pro, but I was having a similar problem with my unlocked GSM Treo Pro on the US T-Mobile network. I would dial a number, and as soon as it connected it would hang up. This happened multiple times. After some searching around, I came across a post that theorized that since the phone band settings were set to auto, and the phone was capable of detecting the 2100MhZ 3G band (used by AT&T), it was "confused" and tried to connect to that 3G band. It suggeted going into the settings, go under phone, then go to the band tab & change the network type from "Auto" to "GSM". I changed this setting, did a soft-reboot, and things have been fine ever since. While this method is obviously for the unlocked version of the phone, maybe if you set it to the specific network band for your wireless provider it might help?

Evidently the Palm Treo's that we are using do not have a Band tab in phone settings. Supposedly we have some replacement phones on the way from Palm, so now it will be a matter of seeing if they work or not. There's only about 25% of us that are having these problems, so there may be some hope for us yet.
Thanks for the response, though!!
I had similar probs due to a bad app install. hard reset fixed everything for me. there is also a palm support ringer update that just came out not too long ago. you can also change your cellular radio settings to check for calls more frequent.

Working carrier unlock, CID, tether on Optimus 7

I have successfully done the following:
1. Carrier Unlocked a Telus branded LG E900h Optimums 7
2. Connected the phone to Fido
3. Use 3G on Fido
4. Fixed broken Call Display problem
5. Tethered E900h to laptop
6. Set up Wireless Zune sync
I thought I would share my experience to reduce frustration that any others may encounter.
Unlocking the phone
Because my local phone unlock guy was closed the day I purchased the Optimus 7, I tried instantunlockcodes.com and purchased an unlock code for $10. I received 2 codes the next day, but neither worked. I recommend not using this website, as tech support responses were next day, and they were never able to get the code working (after 3 days).
I took the phone to my local unlock guy, who unlocked it successfully. He charged me $65.
For anyone who is trying to unlock the phone, when you insert a foreign SIM, the Optimus 7 asks you for a PIN. This is where you enter the service provider unlock code. When I tried either of the codes that instantunlockcodes.com gave to me, it said, "SIM ERROR". After looking around on the Internet, it seems that this is the message that comes up when it's the wrong code.
Getting Data on Fido
Telephone/voicemail automatically worked on Fido. To get Data to work (ie 3G) I had to change the APN setting.
Go to SETTINGS -> Cellular -> edit apn
"edit apn" is the button at the bottom of that screen. The settings should be:
APN: internet.fido.ca
User name: fido
Password: fido
Have Data connection ON and 3G connection ON.
Internet now worked for me, including browser and Outlook. Outlook connected to Exchange flawlessly.
Incidentally, the first time I set up my phone, I set up Windows Live immediately (startup wizard), and then Outlook Exchange. My appointments from Exchange were all in bright pink.
Because Windows Live was giving me a sync error, I did a factory reset, and set up Outlook first this time. Now, my Exchange appointments are in red. No idea how to change the color, but I prefer red. In both cases, the Windows Live account's appointments are in Blue.
Call Display and MMS
Call Display and MMS did not work. Frankly, I don't care about MMS (there is another thread on how to fix this), but Call Display is quite important.
Specifically, Call Display worked when land lines called me, but did not call when most cell phones called me. They would read, Unknown.
The solution to this was through Fido: I had to call them and change my Call Display from "Call Display with Name Display" to "Call Display WITHOUT Name Display". Evidently, this problem has manifested in other unlocked phones, such as some Blackberries as well.
A point of interest: when I put in the original Telus SIM, the call display also did not work properly. They must have given me Call Display with Name Display as well.
Tethering and Wireless Sync
Tethering is a really handy thing for me. I use it infrequently, but it's really invaluable when I need it.
I've modified the solution that's been posted around, to be specific to Fido, but to clarify a couple of the screens, as well:
1. If you haven't already, install Zune first. While tethering is enabled, Wired Sync on Zune won't work. But Zune has wireless synch, which is way cool anyhow.
2. Set up Wireless Sync on Zune. I won't go into all the details, but basically, make sure that the phone is connected to the WiFi network, that your PC has access to the same network (it can be hardwired, as long as it has access to the same IP subnet). If you have a guest/work router, make sure that both your phone and PC are on the same network. With your phone plugged in, run the Wireless Sync wizard on Zune. It's painless.
3. Unplug your phone.
4. Press Phone, and dial ##634#, then press the Call button. This makes visible a hidden app called "MFG". Go to the list of all your apps, and you'll see a new icon with a hammer, wrench and screwdriver lablelled MFG. Open it.
5. You'll be asked for a password. Enter 277634#*# -- you'll need to enter this password every time you want to go into MFG, which is a good thing, because I think you can seriously mess up your phone if you play around in there.
5. Go to Engineer -> Port Setting
6. Select the QC COMPOSITE and validate. The phone will automatically reboot.
7. VERY IMPORTANT STEP: This is totally counter-intuitive, but you must go to SETTINGS -> Cellular and turn OFF Data Connection.
Note that once you're done tethering, you need to turn it back ON in order to use Internet on the phone.
8. Connect the phone with a USB cable.
9. Windows will automatically detect the phone, and if you're using Windows 7, will prompt you with a popup with the download link for the LG driver. It says LG CDMA driver, but it works. The full file name is LGUSBModemDriver_Eng_WHQL_Ver_4.9.4_All.exe
10. Once the drivers are installed, click start, and type "Modem", click Phone and Modem.
11. Click Modems, double-click LGE CDMA USB MODEM, click the Advanced tab.
12. Under Extra Initialization Commands, enter:
+CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet.fido.ca"
Replace internet.fido.ca with a different provider APN, if you're not with Fido, obviously.
13. Close the Modems screen, click Start, type "Dial" and click Set up a Dial-up Connection.
14. Enter your home area code because Windows forces you to, and go to the next screen. Then enter as the dialing number:
*99#
Leave the login/password blank. Click connect -- and PRESTO! Tethered Optimus 7.
* IMPORTANT *
Once you're finished tethering, you need to turn Data Connection back on. For some reason, when Data Connection is on, tethering doesn't work. Fortunately, it's a pretty simple toggle to switch.
I hope that this is helpful!
This was very helpful thank you!
I want to get an optimus 7 and unlock it but i was counting on a website since i don't have an unlock guy. Is your guy by any chance in montreal?
And if not then do you think unlockallcellularDOTcom will work?
Also, how are you liking the optimus 7's hardware(not wp7's missing features)?would you pick it over the surround?
Unfortunately, my guy is in Vancouver, and I have no experience with unlockallcellular.
I love the Optimus 7's build -- it is an extremely well built, sturdy device. I chose it over the surround (basically the same price) because I don't have occasion to use the slideout speaker, and the LG is thinner.
The only hardware aspect I don't like is the micro-USB plug on the side.
Try typing "LG Optimus 7 Unlock" in Ebay.ca, there only option there is mobilexpresscanada, which charges $25 right now to unlock it, and that is the price through ebay. On their site, the price is at $40. I have used their services in the past, and they are often very reliable and fast. I have yet to unlock my own Optimus 7, as I see no need for it yet (I travel to Europe and Middle East after May, so the price and need might be different then), however, there are possitive reviews regarding the unlocking of the Optimus 7 on their Ebay page. Good luck.
I'm having a problem with the same model phone. I've put a bell SIM that I just picked up in the phone and it's not prompting me for an unlock code. I've purchased an unlock code from a site I trust, but it's kind of hard to enter it with no prompt.
Did you have to do anything special for the unlock prompt to appear?
I'm having issues... I walked through the APN settings and all on the E900h but I still get that triangle which basically says no data. I have the phone unlocked and all... thought maybe I need to put some setting in the MFG up or something? Really confused... I get cell coverage but zero/nada on Data/3G.
There's any way to set the MMS server of a carrier that's not preset on the "Profiles" of MFG App?
Thanks

Can anyone confirm this?
Does an unlocked Telus Optimus 7 think it's roaming when it's on the Fido network?
I know that was an issue with older GSM phones due to the Rogers/Fido network code renaming...
no power supply while tethering
I noticed when I left my optimus in tethering mode the battery kept going down even while connected to computer via usb. There seems to be power because when it got down to zero, the usb kept powering my optimus. Is the power supply in tethering mode reduced? Anybody with similar experience?
any idea how to take the menu MGF back again to "normal" ? because sometimes we could have to send back to LG and they will notice, after i did this (only put that engenier code the phone unlocked for any network ) hahahaha is this possible ? how back to normal anyway ?
Well, the MFG app can be deleted like any other app. So there is that. And I am pretty sure your phone is NOT unlocked for all networks when you put in ##634# and then enter 277634#*#
I would like to ask the OP if he attempted to input the unlocking codes he received from the website, more than 3 times?
I also received codes from a website and after 3 attempts at inputting them at the pin screen, the phone now asks for a PUK code?
I thought this odd.
I put my sim that came with the phone back into it and it did not ask for any other code.
I have now tried sims from 4 other networks, from friends etc, and every time it asks for a puk code.
Any info you can provide would be great. I have gone to hell and back with this phone I plan to make a big tutorial at the end so that nobody else has to go through the same.
There is so much mis-information on the internet about these handsets, its unreal
Cheers

Confirmed: The phone is always roaming on Fido. So it's a bit of a hack in that you have to enable data while roaming - just need to be careful to disable data in case you are ACTUALLY roaming.

Thanks!!!
The hint with setting Data-Connection to OFF was the clue.
Works now also with vodafone in Germany!

You can obtain your unlock code in fastgsm.com with your IMEI, and change your APN Settings to your new carrier network..
Can you tether this phone with a mac? And please don't start this fanboy thing...

[Q] Need help - Unlocked Japanese Note 3 no longer works!

Hi All,
Please help. I'm a rookie at rooting and have an unlocked Japanese Note 3 through AU (my Japanese service provider). I was in a rush and paid someone to unlock it before heading back to the States last year. The phone works with my AT&T sim card but when I am back in Japan (with Japanese sim) I am constantly being dropped from the network. 4G service usually works for internet, etc, but I cannot make/receive phone calls and only occasionally can send/receive text messages. I need to know if I should re-root the phone (and leave it rooted) or just do a factory reset (or perhaps change some other setting to get things working again)? The problem with a factory reset is that it will probably re-lock the phone and I don't have a code.
Strange Detail:
Whenever I try to dial a number, the name of a Chinese Province shows up under the Contact's Name. This suggested to me some network issue where the phone somehow thinks it's in China (though texts still kinda work...) and doesn't connect correctly to the Japanese network.
Details:
Model: sm-N900J (per the download screen) i believe this means it has a SnapDragon Processor
Knox warranty has been tripped (apparently by the guy I paid to unlock it originally - is that bad?)
Android 4.3 (looks like I'm still in the original version of Jellybean. Should I upgrade to Kitkat or Lollipop?)
Other Issues:
As of two days ago, the phone now restarts after about 5 minutes of use. Like many Note 3 phones, it's always done the occasional random restart (another reason to root?) but now it's making the phone almost unusable. Also, since having the phone rooted/unlocked/re-rooted I always get a series of warnings upon start-up. Typically, standard Samsung apps like S Planner, Calendar Storage, Keyguard and Index Service have stopped. I have never been able to use the Calendar (or other basic apps) since it always crashes. Is this an issue with Knox clashing with something from the original root (I still see SuperSU loaded -but "turned off"- in the apps menu)?
Idealy...
...someone can help me decide the best course of action (Root, Reset, Other), and how to make sure I can connect back up to my Japanese network properly. I think I'd prefer to root since what I want is an unlocked phone that works smoothly, with good battery life, little to no bloatware, a custom theme and a working S pen. If I root, what's the best method (already have SuperSU apparently) and which ROM and version of Android would be the most stable?
Main Issues Recap:
No connection to phone network (or limited 4G internet).
Phone restarts every few minutes.
Many Apps crash upon Start-up.
Thanks in advance!
So, here's an update that someone with a similar problem might find useful...
Japan uses CDMA for voice and GSM for LTE Data. Somehow (probably through using my phone in the states on a GSM network) the phone was no longer connecting to the CDMA network. Since I'd gotten no responses and felt like there was a good chance that a factory reset would not reverse the sim-unlock I'd stupidly paid to have done, I did a factory reset. Despite appearing to have solved my Index Service, Calendar Storage, S Planner crashing issues, I was still having the exact same problem of LTE working but no CDMA network.
Somehow I stumbled on to this website...(well, I'm unable to post as a new user but searching for "How To Fix Samsung Galaxy error while searching for network" should bring it up).
There, I found some really odd directions that solve network error issues. The only part of the instructions I was really able to carry out was take out the battery and simultaneously press the home and power buttons 10 times. I restarted my phone and miraculously was able to place a call for the first time in a year in Japan!
But then I no longer had any data. I figured it had to do with the APN settings being wiped in the strange reset I just tried. But when I went into Settings>More Networks>Mobile Networks there was no longer an Access Point Names option in the menu. There is no longer a "Network Mode" option either. I used to have that set to LTE/WCDMA/GSM but now I only see a System Select option that simply lets me change my CDMA roaming mode from Automatic to Home Only.
I tried searching everywhere for the missing Access Point Names menu to no avail (and almost attempted to try flashing CyanogenMod for the time hoping this would bring back the APN settings menu) but then I realized that I could do a search in the settings app. I searched APN and the option came right up (though it's frustrating that this now appears to be hidden). Using the following settings (copied below) from the AU by KDDI website I created a new APN profile. Now mobile date appears to be working just fine too!
So, now I just need to decide if I want to keep running Touchwiz in Jellybean or use my new found confidence to try rooting and custom roms...
I'm also kind of curious to see that the next phone bill comes in as expected and I'm not being charged for a bunch of crazy usage! Also, any suggestions to help explain how I got into this problem in the first place, or how to clean up any loose ends would be appreciated.

No data after having WiFi enabled for a while

Hello,
I've had this issue across more than 1 device and more than 1 carrier.
Here's what happens:
I enable WiFi, and for a while everything works as expected. I can send and receive MMS messages. I can disable WiFi and go back to my 4G connection.
The problem is, after an unknown amount of time, the phone drops the 4G connection in the background. I only know when I can't receive/send MMS messages anymore. At that point, if I disable WiFI there's no 4G data connection, and I have to turn Airplane mode off and turn it back on.
This is really annoying. It happened to me using Sprint and a Galaxy S4 (both stock and custom ROMs) and it's happening to me with a Galaxy S5 from MetroPCS. (I've used the stock Metro ROMs, Stock T-mobile ROMs, and Custom T-mobile ROMs).
Right now I'm using a Stock T-mobile ROM with the latest firmware, carrier is MetroPCS.
What can I do so this doesn't happen? It's really frustrating.
Thank you for your time.

Hello.
That's already disabled.
Should I enable it?
I tried with "smart network switch" enabled and disabled and problem still happened.
My S5 G900F Android 5.00 (Smart Network Switch disabled, Power Save disabled) on EE UK has had this problem for 9 months after phone upgraded itself to Lollipop (EE win the accolade to being the SLOWEST ON THE PLANET to provide Android updates.....). Since Jan 3, my wife's G901, a couple of weeks after it upgraded from 5.0 to 5.02, has developed the same problem. Neither phone has ever been rooted or other.
I have fruitlessly searched everywhere for a solution without success. EE Customer Services Tier 2 & Samsung's own service centre have failed to fix it. EE & Samsung blame each other for 5.1 or 5.1.1 not being available for download. Neither is prepared to resolve the issue despite hours on the phone. Have tried Safe Mode, Factory Reset, clearing everything, reloading APNs & Samsung even reloaded Android. All a waste of time: Many many days of it!
After approx half an hour connected to Wi-Fi, only way to get the mobile data to connect, is either reboot, enter & exit Air-plane mode or flip the 4G > 3G > 4G connection under More Networks. Have tested the fault in different cell areas countries and continents; fault is same everywhere.
It seems there are quite a few sufferers of this problem.
Samsung S5 keeps losing data connection
I have the same problem. My new Samsung phone loses the data connection (even though data is turned on) and I can only re-connect by restarting the phone. The first EE shop I took it to couldn't help at all. The second gave me a new SIM - that didn't work. Then I tried online support and after 3.5 hours of my life, in which I was passed on from one person to another, they completed a factory re-set - which didn't work (and additionally lost all the personalisation of my screen and some of my contacts). So I now have a not-very-smart phone which I have to re-start every time I want to use data. This is a business contract and the phone is less than two months old, but I'm not getting any effective support from EE. Android version is 5.0.2
me too, since last update. and app 'phono' shows "mobile data off" not got a time on it, but when i leave wifi coverage, it wont reconnect to cell data 2g/3g/4g. flightmode toggle to restore.
Abandon hope if you have this intermittent mobile data problem!
...at least until there is a software update, though I have no idea if that will help.
I have now tried a new sim card, a factory reset, and a replacement phone - which was provided only because I'm a business customer and I found a sympathetic member of staff. *By the way, I was told that if you are personal customer they won't consider replacing your phone if it is more than a month old - even if you started complaining about the phone as soon as you got it, the chances are a month will have elapsed by the time they put you through the hoops of a new sim, reset etc - and then it is too late to insist on a replacement phone.
In any case the replacement phone didn't resolve the issue so I have reached* a dead end. My phone fails to connect to data after having been connected to wifi - you have to do it manually each time you move away from a wifi connnection. At first I was doing it by restarting the phone, but am now following the advice of someone else who has the same problem and am going into flight mode and out again. *
This is not satisfactory, and it seems from reading forums that EE are to blame for the problem rather than Samsung, but I'm not 100% sure about that.*
Possible solution that works, for me, at the moment!
Having suffered this issue of my S5 (SM-G901F) not connecting to mobile data after being on Wi-Fi for a while unless switching airplane mode on/off for a few weeks; although it has probably been happening since the update I received late December; I have tried all of the turn this switch off, factory resets (x2), etc, etc, etc. and Googled the issue without success.
I have found this thread interesting, and I even tried calling EE support only to be told "you have tried everything that we would tell you to do" and "it wouldn't be a sim card, or handset issue, sounds like software". The reply was basically that like-it or lump it until the 5.1 update is released "by Samsung not EE because EE do not release Android updates". [Perhaps EE don't release the updates, but the stock rom is tested by them and their bloatware added before they eventually release it!!!]
Following my last reset I tried selectively re-installing the apps I used incase that was causing the issue. No Luck!
One last thing I tried was to look at every system 'thing' that I could find which used/switched any part of the mobile/mobile data/wifi - in addition to the settings I had already tried (all of which were mentioned in this thread previously). One thing I could not find not mentioned here, or anywhere, was the VoWi-Fi call on/off which I had always set to on as I do not live in a great reception area. Calling over Wi-Fi is great when you don't have a strong mobile signal.
Having 'played' with this setting for the last 24 hours I have found that the VoWi-Fi on/off appears to be a possible cure - for me anyway.:fingers-crossed:
When VoWi-Fi was set to off and leaving the phone connected to Wi-Fi overnight, the S5 immediately switched to mobile data this morning when I turned the Wi-Fi off . It continued to switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data all morning whilst out and about in and out of Wi-Fi connections - Woop Woop!!!
I then tried switching VoWi-Fi on (with Wi-Fi on and at home), leaving the phone for a number of hours, only to find that when I turned Wi-Fi off the phone refused to connect to mobile data even with a 'decent' mobile signal. The only way to get it to connect was to go back to switching Airplane mode on/off.
Switched VoWi-Fi off again, left Wi-Fi connected, left the phone for a couple of hours, etc. and hey-presto immediately switched to mobile data when I turned the Wi-Fi off. [Dances around the room because he's got the S5 automatically switching to mobile data again. Even though I'm at home with a great fibre internet and strong Wi-Fi connection!!!]
I do not know if this could be a solution for the others who are suffering from this issue, but it appears to be a solution for me at the moment. I thought I would share as your previous posts have helped me and you all seem to be pulling your hair out; like I have been; trying to find a solution.
Try it, it may work, but don't shoot me if it doesn't!
It's encouraging to know that I'm not crazy. I've had this issue across two devices and carries.
John,
Thank for your suggestion about WiFi calling. Unfortunately, I always have it off! I never used it, so maybe I should try turning it on? We'll see lol.
At this point, I think this is going to be my last Galaxy line phone.
Is it wi-fi calling that's causing the problem?
I have wondered if there is a link with wi-fi calling, but haven't tested it properly. I signed up with ee and bought the Galaxy phone specifically so that I could use wifi calling, as the town where I live (in the Scottish Borders) doesn't get a mobile signal strong to work reliably indoors from any of the networks. I'll try turning off wi-fi calling to see if that sorts the data thing (though I see that for one person above it did not). That would mean I wouldn't get calls or texts when I'm at home so it would not be a permanent solution for me. But in fact the wi-fi calling is not reliable anyway....

Brian,
You never know the way things are going with this issue; given that nobody seems to be able to pinpoint the fault; turning it on may just sort it!!!
still no change and its a pita.....

x below lte signal and not internet connection help!

Hello so as stated above for some reason i have an x below my signal bar but it still says lte but not connection, ive tried the following, remove sim and put it back in (both with the phone off and on), checked my apns which i never had to mess with before (which i didnt have this issue yesterday just saw it when i got to work which i usually have lte signal), turn on and off airplane mode, turn off and on mobile data, ive tried every fix i could think of so far with none of them working.. my cell service is been paid and i checked my straight talk account to make sure, but now comes the weird part when im connected to wifi and pull down the quick toggles it shows no x under the lte (see screenshot below) does anyone know how to fix this issue i rely on my lte data for directions and gps at work.
Phone info:
Android 8.1 beta opp5 rooted
Thanks to anyone that can help!
I am having this same issue as of this morning, and I am on the Straighttalk AT&T network. I wonder if they just updated their APN network and our APN settings need to be updated too? If so, I'm not sure what settings to use.. using the straight talk website and selecting "Android 4.0" (the newest version listed), it shows the settings I'm currently using. Anyone else having/resolved this issue?

Borrow a (different carrier) SIM from a friend to see if it is a network issue. If the LTE works on that SIM, go to ST and have them provision another SIM for you (free). If the LTE still doesn't work, back your phone up, wipe it, flash a full image.

I called STW tech support, and they told me I had the wrong APN... I updated my APN settings (but really it was nothing other than changing the ID, so I don't think it had any real effect) and still had no data. After checking downdetector.com, it appears there is a widescale data outage with straight talk (or more specifically, AT&T). One of the commenters stated the following:
"I can confirm the issue is DNS. If you have the ability to changes the DNS on your phone, you can restore service. If you have Android + Root, I used DNS Override successfully. Just set DNS Servers to Google's"
I just used DNS Override ($2 app) to set my DNS servers to Google's and that resolved my issue. Hope that helps. If you don't want to spend $2, there are some free apps that also will change the DNS servers for you, and there are other methods detailed here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ge...ide-how-to-change-dns-android-device-t3273769
Update: earlier that day ot seemed to resolve itself while i was driving at work amd got to my destination which was about an hour away and once i looked at my phone ot no longer had the x and had full service amd working lte so idk maybe it was cell tower maintenence but don't know for sure but the issue hasn't happened again tho but thanks for everyone for the help and suggestion!
