Hi All
I have started this thread in general just to chat and voice some opinions and get bits of feedback more than anything
so here's my little story, I picked up a mojo as I originally had fire sticks for my TVs in the bedroom and living room, and Emulators and games on my phone and tablet, and I picked up an 8bitdo SF30 Pro Controller for my phone/tablet, however I found I never really have time to myself while out and about to play retro games on my phone and tablet, I had looked at buying a shield tv so I could have everything on one device, but I didn't want to spend 150+ on one, so I sold the fire sticks in favour of a mojo, knowing I could put tv apps and games on, but i didn't know how restricted the old sw would be, but for the price of a fire stick, worth a look, then picked up 2 more (one for each tv as a result of bricking the first one, now before anyone jumps in, i quickly found out it is hard to brick a mojo with software, only a hardware issue is likely to brick it) but what was holding me back waas my own stubbornness, I refuse to join facebook, but I know there is a dedicated group on there, but again I found a ton of info on here and youtube, and secondly, I have a chromebook, not a windows machine, so connecting to a computer with male to male usb means making a trip.... i've had to load everything onto SD
too many apps weren't compatible with 4.2.2 so I needed to root and find a newer version, I tried remix 2 first, then lineage 13, then cm12 and 12.1, none are perfect
the mojo downstairs is on stock rom, as that runs all of my emulators just fine (that i'm aware of) and any extra tv apps that I can't put onto my smart tv (mobbox Cody and showdro etc ) I only purchased this later after tinkering with the first one for a few days
Remix - used most of the internal storage with apps so maybe lineage needs trying as I can mount an SD as Internal, most emulators will run roms from the sd card, wifi doesn't seem to work when an SD is left in (will mounting an SD internally with Lineage mean no wifi?), and its a faff to keep taking it out given the placement of the slot next to the hdmi, so i've moved them onto a thumb drive instead and picked up a cheap 4 port usb to put a keyboard/mouse receiver in, i've put the controller dongle in the hub and i've not noticed too much lag, but I wanted the thumb drive in the usb3 port, and I can switch them if it means it works better, overall happy, upstairs isn't a smart tv so that mojo needed to have all the tv apps in addition to my emulators games and roms, still some apps can't be installed though, problem parsing the package, is this due to the app version itself? a couple of my GTAs sideloaded fine, but some refuse, even when i've looked for alternatives... I read Netflix can be an issue, I found if I downloaded a version that was near enough the same date as the rom, (a version from feb or oct 2016, can't remember which in the end) the app would simply take me to its own site to download the correct version
tried Lineage next, first time, made a right hash of it, i dunno how, firstly, I couldn't boot into recovery from Remix (TWRP 2820), factory reset sent it to a twrp bootloop, and thats where i thought i'd bricked it, and bought 2 more, figured out the keyboard alt-i-prt scr was only rebooting it, until I pressed escape after pressing those 3, before remix reappeared, suddenly twrp came on, so I wiped and flashed lineage
it was buggered everything forced close, but settings option gave me the extra restart options including restart into recovery, and i'd come across the thread on here showing the hidden internal hw buttons for power and restart,, so getting back to recovery was no battle at all
back to Remix, I spent a few hours reading through 2 different threads dedicated to CM12 and CM12.1, both seem affected with various minor flaws, audio drop outs, no chrome browser, I experienced this and also unstable bluetooth
the only thing i've been unsuccessful in is going back to stock, I don't think I did my initial back up properly, but given that i've left one stock anyway, I can do a back up again if I need to I guess,
sorry if my first post isn't that interesting, but do you all still use your mojo and what roms do you use, i've settled on Remix

I recently purchased a new Sony Vaio notebook that came with windows 8 preinstalled. It cam with a 1 tb HDD that was replaced with a 180 gb SSD and windows was reloaded using a recovery usb. I then wanted to mount the 1 tb HDD into dvd drive spot so I bought a caddy for it off of amazon. It was really easy to pull out the dvd drive and pop in the HDD in it's caddy and it fit perfectly. I turned on the notebook and it booted up and the drive was now recognized at D drive. I could see the windows os was still on there so I did the quick format option and then proceeded to transfer my music folder over from my external. I noticed through the whole process that the fan seemed to be running really high and I thought it was just because I was messing the new HDD but it never went away even when I was done with the transfer. The HDD seemed to always be spinning too even when I wasn't accessing files on it which didn't seem right if it's not being used. The fan is usually running but this was a full blast like I was playing a high end game. Windows gave me a blue error message about a kernel and rebooted. The fan immediately kicked in once it restarted so I turned it off and put the dvd drive back.
So my question is just if anybody has any experience doing something like this and has some suggestions? I want to try it again and figured it wouldn't hurt so ask for advice on here before I do. I figured I would try doing a different type of format as maybe there are still os traces on there that's messing things up. Thanks for reading.

Perhaps the new caddy is blocking airflow? Also, the drive may be pulling more power than the DVD drive would and causing something to get overloaded.
I did this with a Lenovo Ideapad y550p and I never noticed any issues like this.
I'd try checking if your manufacturer has a public support forum you can post on, this seems like it may be a device specific issue.
HDDs generate a lot of heat (for more than most SSDs, incidentally) and your laptop's cooling may not have been designed for this source of heat.
You also bought a Sony device, which makes it difficult for me to even speculate what other problems might be occurring.
Thanks for the replies. I tried looking around the sony website but can't find much. I'll give it another go and check for some airflow and if that doesn't work then I'll just live with the ssd because I'm not giving that speed up.
You could try swapping the SSD and HDD. The SSD should generate less heat, which may help out.
So I reinstalled and did a full format which took over two hours but I noticed there were still hidden partitions on this drive so I got rid of those and expanded the drive all the way. Then I unchecked the box to allow random indexing on this drive and changed the power options shut off disk to 1 min per someone's instructions from a google link and it seems to working now. Figured I would post in case someone else ever runs into this issue.
I picked up the NP yesterday from Walmart for $50. Couldn't find any at the Best Buys in my area. So I got home and discovered what I purchased was a return item. Someone's account was already on it and the remote was really clicky(loud clicks) and there was a ton of apps on it. After returning the device and making sure I picked up something in shrink wrap this time. I got home installed and setup Kodi and watched a movie.
So getting ready for bed and i'm shutting everything down and I can't turn this thing off. I held the button on the bottom which only seams good for Bluetooth pairing. Held buttons on the remote, nothing seemed to work. So I ended up just unplugging it. I know there has to be a better solution, something simple I'm missing.
Any help, how do I turn it off properly?
Also I hooked an external drive through and OTG(on the go) adapter and nothing, do I need to be rooted to watch movies from an external HD?
The nexus player doesnt have an off switch. its meant to constantly run because it uses so little power (i assume since its got an atom chip).
I sideloaded an app called stick mount. im not sure if it requires root, as i already had rooted for another purpose, but with stick mount i was able to mount a flash drive with the nexus player. I assume it would need root to do this, however, google just released android M today, and i read somewhere that it supposedly is support to support external storage devices natively. So crossing my fingers for that.
There is a program that works for rebooting if you have root. The shutdown option does not work.
TV Boot.
I'm rooted and staying on 5.0, so this app comes in handy for rebooting.
I received the Shield TV yesterday is the Pro, when i configure the first time the update start automatic to 3.0, when all works fine, and leave a few time the shield enter in sleep mode, but the problem is can't wake up, i tried with gamepad, remote, usb keyboard, power button anything respond, the only way is unplug the power and plug again.
I see in nvidia forums that is possible is a problem of the 3.0 update, because i can't tested in a lower version i don't know if is a general issue or is my device.
Tried on a Samsung TV LG TV, with and without HDMI CEC, and differents hdmi cable, and ethernet and Wifi.
I don't know, if you wait if general issue or return to the store.
Anyone have the similar problem next to update to 3.0? appear only fail on the Pro model 500GB.
Hi,
I have exactly the same problem since I updated to Marshmallow.
Shield Pro 500GB. I tried to play with HDMI CEC and power settings (disabled sleep mode completely) as well, but still can't wake/turn on when I leave it alone for a while. Case green LED is not lit. The touch button on the case does not even work. Tried Shield controller, xbox 360 wireless controller, shield remote, Logitech K400 plus keyboard/touchpad without any luck. Only option is to dis/reconnect power supply.
Bootloader is unlocked, I used it rooted before the Marshmallow update and there were no problems. I did not reroot it yet.
Any ideas, anyone?
Thanks!
Same Here
Have the same exact problem since updating to 3.0
Has anyone found a way to fix it?
I have the 500GB model.
It's general bug, many user report on shield forum. For now I guess just power off every time then turn it on using bottom on the machine.
I have the same problem too. I'm from Spain but buy on Amazon France ( 500 G ) version PRO. Has anyone tried to install another version of the firmware ??
for example: the developer? //developer.nvidia.com/shield-developer-os-images ( sorry but ....To prevent spam on the XDA forums, ALL new users prevented from posting outside links in their messages. After approximately 10 posts, you will be able to post outside links. Thank you for understanding! )
????
Having exactly the same problem.
I got mine 2 days ago and immediately upgraded to marshmallow so don't know if it happened before.
I did contact nvidia, and they are awere of it. Just send the feedback in your geforce expiernce on the pc or laptop, and on the shield tv in about and then send feedback. They are working on it to get it fixed.
same problem when hdmi control turned on on my tv.. problem is that i need it for my sound
Have had the same problem after updating, but for me the standbybutton on the console itself doesn't work after sleepmode has been active for a little while, have to take the ACcord out and in again to get it working, the fan ect is clearly running so it is in sleepmode, annoying as hell, was about to return it for a new console yesterday but they didn't have new ones in so i wouldn't go the whole easter without my movies and series stuck at the cabin.. hehe
Hope they get it fixed ASAP or some smart XDA-member makes a fix =) must be a software issue, but why only on some consoles ? i have formatted the thing multiple times to try getting it fixed without luck..
I hope someone found fix. In any case, i experience the same but not all the time.
In about 1/4 of the attempts to wake the device it is stuck in sleep. Impossible to turn it back on with remotes, controllers or hdmi-cec. The tv also loses track of the fact that a device is connected to that specific hdmi port.
Unplugging and plugging back in forces a reboot.
This is on a fully updated, fully "original" ATV Pro

well Yeah.. so i bought this stick just now on ebay thinking it should be good enought to give away for streaming some live tv and so on, but
this had obviously the WIFI problem and there i was..
Not beeing able to use WIFI i started to search for different roms and after a couple days constantly searching HOW TO- and downloading different ROMS and watching youtube on how to flash i set up to the task once again..
Beeing able to flash both Nvidia tablets, Samsung Telephones, and Xiaomi i felt confident that i would be able to fix this..
But no, i had a couple different roms that started up With start screen but then that was it, nothing more i couldnt get past start boot logo on either of the 3 roms i thought was correct so i startd to search for same chip roms as this has the 3229 rockchip and the AS something number wifichip..
But then after flashing With a unknown rom it wouldnt start up again or even get recogniced by the computer usb again..
I tried the reset button, i tried shortcutting pin 6-7 and most likely all other as well but no Luck..
There is a blue light but its only halfway as Bright as when the stick was ON and working.
So its like its stuck in some low Power recovery or i dont know..
At least it lights up when i plug it in.
this is the stick With the red "plastic antenna"
Its not an antenne after all by lokking at it but maybe it serves some purpose of making People think its an antenna..
Any suggestions will be apreciated as now i consider it as Waste and after just spending 35 USD on it i would like it to at least get it back so i can sideload some games on it and give it away rather than putting it in the trashcan..
I attach link to the crap i bought so you get the idea of what it is and to also avoid..
Thank you all for all help!!

Hi.
I think I have the same device as you. And also I tried to flash another rom without success, so until I find a good rom, its just a small brick.
I also been in the same situation as you, but you have to short pins 7-8 to revive. Its the pins facing the middle of the device, and counting from the device edge/side.
Good luck. If you find a working rom for it, let me know
No, i have had no luck. Piece of **** device.
Got 80% refund from seller after a couple weeks of complaining.
Just throw it away and buy a ZAPPATI media player or a Nvidia shield if you dont use any 3D.

Hi again.
If you ever revive your dongle, you can get a working rom from the following link:
http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player-support/rockchip-based-tv-players/rk3229-devices/firmware-roms-tools-bg/623420-mk809iv-rk3229-bricked-how-to-unbrick?p=646882#post646882
It worked for me
Thanks. I will try. Any tips in how to revive it??
I also have an mk809iv. I couldn't get developer options to show after tapping build number but it said "no need you are already a developer" (I assume its preunlocked?) I got bored and decided to flash a rom. I have the rockchip factory tool and rockchip batch tool. I tried flashing an update and the problems began lol
OK..... The stick now doesn't have a blue led on AT All. Tried original mains power source different USB cables different ports on laptop etc.
When I connect it to the TV it doesn't show up on the hdmi. Have I really fried it properly ?
Is there a way to use command on pc or adb shell or something to unlock the bootloader. In batch tool I can see the device after shorting pin 6/7 method but when I load firmware and start to flash then it comes up with failed at boot every time and on different versions of the tool.
I rooted the device before with King root (not king o root) and flashed supersu via rom installer app. Assuming that developer options are open by default, the device should be rooted now...... Right? ?
Anyway is there a way to uninstall all the software and reinstall the manufacturers firmware via the pc ? I have included pics of the board, but when looking at other people's pics the have a lot more chips and nand chips etc mine has one chip on the back and on the other side what I presume to be a heat sync (look like a bit of a tin can
Lol)
I have been on many forums for about 48hrs straight now ? and still can't find answers *sigh*
Recap:- 1 is it fried
2 if not can I sort it via pc
3 HOW?! lol
One last thing, would it run on cyanogenmod 11 ? it's an android device running kit kat and my gingerbread S2 is now on cm11 or are the internal "gibbons" different ?
Many thanks to anyone who can lend me a hand ??
I got this thinking I am buying the best machine available for streaming and from day once , have been plagued by problems.
First on opening the unit, the AC adapter was faulty. It turned out to be a piece of plastic stuck between the contacts.
Anyway I solved that problem on my own as shipper refused to entertain any claims outside the USA.
Then when it finally got going, I noticed most apps had loading circles going around, and were waiting to download. Tried everything possible and they would not move ahead . Finally cleared cache and data on the Google Play Store app and the app started downloading for precisely one application then it stopped and again same circling. I had to clear data on the Play store app every time to update each and every app on the machine.
Then i couldnt find my favorite apps in the app store. Turns out , Shield does not support. Ok, no problem, i said lets compromise and move on.
Downloaded MX Player Pro from the Play Store and sat down to watch a 1080p movie on the USB drive and again the loading circle popped up on the screen. Buffering on a 1080p file from a usb 3.0 flash drive !!! I copied the file onto the HDD and again the same problem. I had no idea how to watch this movie, BTW had watched it a night before perfectly on my Alphawise H96 Pro+.
Then one by one all the apps started crashing.
I decided to do a factory restore which lasted 2,5 hours. After restore, same problem, all apps crashing.
I do not have anything connected to the Shield , no usb drive. no air mouse, nothing. Both ports are empty.
The surprising thing is even Google play store crashes , also the Lean back Launcher and the system crashes.
I called up Nvida support and they say we do not support the Shield as you are not in the USA. Guys, even the chinese from Aliexpress support you and give a replacement if item is faulty. All they ask is a video showing the problem. In todays times, there are going to be non us customers buying from the Usa, you need to support them also.
Stuck with a Lemon.
Cannot even sell it off as whoever buys it from me will throw it back in my face. The dam thing is just a few days old.
Havent slept three nights, trying to solve the problem, got finally tired and have connected the Alphawise to the TV and Shield goes back into the box
There are lots of other people complaining about similar issues but no fixes from Nvidia ?
If someone can please suggest something which I can try, I will be highly obliged. Else I am stuck with a $300 paper weight.
I did a Full Reset (2.5 hours) once and a Fast reset , hoping it would solve the problem. But no luck.
Please help, someone, please.
Wow, that sounds like a whole lotta suck.
Sorry to hear you had such hardship.
My Pro model had the blurry Recommendations section, which was a symptom of the faulty harddisk, for ages (before I knew about the mass RMA they had) and, one day, the Shield stopped responding to input, even from the capacitive power button on the device itself.
So I pulled the plug but it wouldn't turn back on afterwards.
I applied for a replacement here:
https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/home
Where'd you get yours?
I'd purchased mine as soon as it was released through the US Amazon - I couldn't wait the extra month or so for it to be released in Europe
Despite this, they processed the replacement. I sent it off to the Netherlands, if I recall correctly, and they returned the refurbished unit shortly afterwards, which has been working fine ever since; all the useless recommendations load quickly and there's no slow down or stuttering like I'd experienced before. I also got a new controller in the box with it and an EU plug. :good:
Anyways, my point is that it shouldn't matter where it was purchased. Try that link and see if you can't get it sorted.
I wish you the best!

I have the 2017 shield pro. and all though I wouldn't say it has been a nightmare, it hasn't been without its problems; such as apps randomly not responding with a message saying close the app or wait...slow down of apps opening at all to include settings not opening...streaming apps to include Netflix not playing or simply force closing...even Leanback Launcher stopping with the message Leanback Launcher has stopped...close or wait....I finally bit the bullet after posting on this forum and getting no response and did a wipe of data and dalvic from TWRP and re-flashed the 6.1 or 6.2 firmware. It seems to be running smooth so far. Got my shield from amazon. wouldn't expect this many problems from a $300 device that claims to be the best on the market. When it works without problems it is a great device!
Hope you get it sorted out. If nothing else works, it may be worth it to fastboot boot TWRP if you have an unlocked bootloader...wipe data and dalvic and install the 6.1 firmware update.
Real sorry to here you had so many problems Mate. Hope they sort it for you ....But if they fail to deliver (which they really should not, Take no excuses from them ,Polite but firm)
