Phone keeps asking for sim unlock code - Lenovo A6000/Plus Questions & Answers

Hey guys, so I have this phone as a spare one after my mom passed away. When she bought it, it was locked on Telenor carrier. After she passed away, and I use different carrier, I asked Telenor for unlock code, and they promptly sent it to me.
I entered the code and it worked. But every now and then the phone reboots, or shuts off due to low battery, or I just restart it, and when booting back up, it asks me for code. I plan to sell it, as I don't need it, but that pesky sim unlock code is annoying. Is there any way to solve this, if anyone is familiar?
Also, another problem, not that big.
When I save contact with number without the country code (+381...) and that contact is calling me, since the phone reads it as +381... it shows no name, as the contact is not saved, and vice versa, if it is saved with country code, and I call it without country code, phone just calls unknown contact, unless I call it with country code. I hope I made myself clear, as English is not my native language.
Thanks in advance.

SimLock on bootup?

After sending off my second VarioII for the screen alignment issue to be fixed, instead of repairing it T-Mobile sent me a new device. I picked up the device from my local T-Mob shop, and started up the device. It went through it's normal boot up process then stopped with a screen saying that the 'Network is locked, please enter an unlock code'. In the top left hand corned the app name is displayed, it's called SimLock.
I've never had a lock on my SIM card, and it was exactly the same card that I had been using minutes early in a temporary replacement phone.
Anyway, T-Mob couldnt help me. They first gave me a 4 digit code to enter then an 8 digit PUK code, none of which worked. Also, each time I enter a number the time between tries becomes longer. I think there is also a limit (10?) on the number of tries before the SIM is rendered useless?
So, I think I will try the SIM in a replacement at the shop to check that's ok then I will ask for a replacement, cos' as far as I'm concerned it was broken when I received it, and I dont want to wait another 2 weeks for it to come back from repair.
Anyone else had this experience?

Hi PeekBee,
The SimLock program is the network lock HTC use. I might also be used to lock the phone to a single SIM card but I'm not sure if SimLock is used for that. It appears however that the phone you have been given as a replacement has the wrong security settings enabled.
Gav.
Thanks Gav,
After spending a great deal of time on the phone to T-Mob tech support they've finally agreed that they can't get around the issue and will ship out a new one. This will be my 4th Vario II!

Hermes 100 is this bricked?

I just purchased HTC Cingular 8525 and was told that it was unlocked. Well it is unlocked to the sim card that it arrived to me with, but when I put my sim card (from different carrier) in it, it asked for the pass code. Being an idiot to all of this, I started trying to put the number in that would unlock my old phone.
After a lot of searching, I found that I only have so many tries to unlock and then it is bricked. Okay, my screen says "you have tried 5 times, please wait until timeout". Does that mean that I have bricked it? I paid for someone to give me the code but the screen still says the above. There is a box for entering the code and the curser is flashing and it will allow me to input the number, but when I press enter nothing changes.
Is it bricked or just still locked? What can I do to fix this? Please help an idiot before I pull any more of my hair out on this.
Thanks,
Dona
Not bricked at all. Just locked, you will need the PUK code to unlock it probably.
Contact your carrier (Orange, O2 etc) and ask them for your PUK code

You will have to call your carrier. Be carefull because if you enter the wrong code to many times, you'll fry the sim card. So, if you cant get the puk code from the carrier, you'll have to replace the sim.
Just so ya know, the PUK code is relative to the sim card security. It just means what it's been asking for is YOUR pin code that you would at some time have applied to your sim card to secure it from prying eyes. Any phone you put your sim card in should ask for it each time the phone is turned on.
The other code that is a possibility here is if the previous owner of the HTC entered a security code to prevent other sim cards being used in their phone. It may be worth contacting the person you got the phone off and asking them for the PHONE security code they would have set.
I must say that it seems unusual for a second hand phone to be sold with an old sim still in it. The sim card is the previous owners personal account so any info left on it might also be available for you to access. I'd certainly not sell a phone without making sure the old personal data had been removed (including the sim, even if it was no longer activated).
my 8525 needed an eight digit number my code number was four digits So four 0's in front of it did the trick
Mi hermes show NO GSM helme
if update from original ROM and brick in 11%
if update radio brick in 0%

Did TMobile give new the wrong unlock code?

After waiting a good three weeks, I finally got an unlock code for my phone BUT the code I got has one too many digits! So, the unlock screen doesn't accept the entire code (only taking eight of the nine digits). I am wondering if the rep made a mistake or if there is a trick to this that I am unaware of. Any ideas?
Is the first digit a zero per chance? If so, obviously try leaving it out. Also don't enter the code incorrectly too many time or your phone will become inoperable. I suggest re-requesting the unlock code and waiting it out.
Make sure you gave them the correct IMEI number as well. That is the one thing that screws up unlock codes more than anything.

Need the oposite of sim-lock

I am looking for a reverse thing to a sim-lock. I have a phone, which I would like to make sure of, that no other card can be used in it as mine- or a card that has the same pin as mine. I thought about a phone-lock for the sim-card. Once the cell is turned on, the cell enters the pin code without being noticed by me. I keep forgetting this damn number anyway. However, I don't want to miss the capability of the card being rpotected by its pin number, either when put in a different phone, or the functionality, that if someone wants to steal my phone, that it enters the preset pin number, therefore bricks the sim-card.
Basically this is what I want:
1. The phone enters a preset pin, without me or anyone else seeing it.
2. If another sim-card is installed, the card shall be bricked because the phone tries to enter the preset pin.
And last but not least: If someone has a sim-card that has no pin that is put into the phone, is it possible to deny the service the sim-card offers?
WaveSecure seems to do pretty much what you want.
Effectively it can lock out the phone and stop other SIM cards being used.
It was free to begin with, but I think it has now been sold to one of the big companies and may be chargeable.
WaveSecure is cool but!
I think that WaveSecure does part of the job, but the most imprtant one, is entering the pin number automatically. This however is not supported by WaveSecure.
Maybe there is another app anyone can think of.
Meanwhile I am rowsing git, maybe I find ssomething in there!

doesnt entering the pin number automatically defeat the point of having a pin?? If someone steals your phone, they wont need your PIN to unlock it??
Yes and no!
Assuming that I want the card only to work without hesitation with this particular cell, then I need the cell to enter the pin automatically, and when put into another cell, it the pin dialog ifres up, since the pin request is still in effect. I am not concerned about someone stealing the phone, it is insured against stealing. And assuming someone would use the phone with his own sim, without resetting the phone/ putting a different firmware on it: the phone would try to enter the preset pin, thereby bricking the card.
Anyway, the phone has been tempered with, in a way, that the cell can only call numbers which are for free for me, according to my cell-plan.
So having the pin still in effect is basically a precaution against taking the card out and set it in a different phone.

Help Activating Replacement Device on Verizon

I’m not sure if anyone will be able to help but I thought I’d ask. I had my phone replaced under warranty for the volume buttons sticking in and not being able to click them any more. Got the new device in and it wouldn’t activate. It registers the SIM card and goes to no service. I called Verizon and tried to get them to help me activate it and spent 2 hours on the phone with them and tried EVERYTHING they could think of. Entering IMEI numbers, SIM numbers, factory reset, and a new sim card.
In the end they told me that when I turn the phone on the IMEI number they entered changes to a different one from what the phone reports and is failing activation. They had me try a new sim card to make sure the sim wasn’t broken and that still didn’t work. Called Motorola spent a while on the phone with them trying the same things and they agreed it was a rare case and that I would need a second replacement phone.
I received the new (third) phone yesterday and it is having the same problem as the second phone. Won’t activate and when its powered on the IMEI number on the Verizon side is reports something different then what any of the other phones are showing. (so now between the 2 phones I have 4 different IMEIs reported (the assigned 2 the phone shows me and the 2 made up ones that the network switches to when I turn on the phone)
Now Motorola is suggesting another replacement and Verizon has stopped helping me and on my last call they transferred me to the Motorola support number. Has anyone seen anything like this?
Is there anything I can say to help try and get this resolved other than waiting for a fourth phone that may or may not work?
