v20 LS997 charging problem - LG V20 Questions & Answers

This has really been bothering me.. The phone when plugged in takes HOURS to charge suddenly.. i'm using OEM charger and cable for the device and its only charging at 10-200mA, "Ampere" shows it in USB charger instead of AC charger when plugged into the power brick, If i unplug and plug in multiple times(into the power brick) it detects AC charger but doesn't charge past 200mA... I tried a different cable and brick but its the same issue.. If i unplug and plug in again it detects as AC again but still SLOW charge.. And plugging into a powerbank, It never gains any % just stays at the same HELP....

have you tried cleaning the port out? Could have lint or something. Maybe a different battery?

The port looks new basically, i will try cleaning again to be sure.. And i unfortunately dont have another v20 battery to test, But i tried a g4's battery and it did the same thing So i don't know if its the battery or what.. the battery was completely drained for a bout a week due to a dead LCD had to order a new one.. But that shouldn't make it slow charge should it?..

Not that I'm aware of it shouldn't. Are you using an extension cable perhaps? Maybe it has a short if so.

Nope, Just direct cable into the brick, no extensions.. I cleaned the port again and its fluctuating from 30mA to 1800mA, But the battery is draining while plugged in and the phone is still detecting USB mode..

Sounds like a bad battery imo, the battery terminals in the phone are good right? From looking anyway?

Yes, they look normal, The positive terminal on the phone is pushed in a little further than the others, But it was like that when i got the phone and it just recently started this problem

My note 3 acted up with the battery like that and a new one solved it. Can't guarantee that it is the reason, but most likely.

I would try new battery, factory reset is last option for your situation. I think you literally need s V20 one though.

I agree with Mysticblaze347. If the USB port and the battery contacts are clean, and you already checked different wall chargers and cables, then something's most likely wrong with the battery. You might as well consider getting one of the newer Lithium polymer batteries such as the ones from Perfine, Shenmz/AexPower, Taeozi, or Maxxxjuice. They are the same size as the OEM battery but actually have a higher capacity.

Well, i found a temporary solution.. Threw the battery in the freezer, My old phone needed that sometimes when the battery drained too fast, It unfortunately didn't solve the issue.. BUT I put the entire phone in the freezer ON for about 30 mins and it was fast charging again and getting 1800mA for two days straight.. Today the same issue has happened again.

Hopefully its just the battery.. Would suck if this phone was bad.. Had it for about a year now and its got a lot of data i can't save, The phone doesn't allow any data transfer over USB But it charged fine with that issue

Regarding data transfer, you could use any of the WiFi file transfer / FTP apps (I use Send Anywhere, for example) to copy files to other devices/computers if it comes to that.

Sorry to hear that. Seems like your phone has some hardware issue where the charge doesn't fully flow from the USB port to the battery.

Could it just be the port?.. or do you think it could be something wrong with the board itself?

It's certainly possible. But if cleaning the USB port doesn't solve your problem, then it may not be an easy fix because I heard that the port is soldered onto the board.

[Q] fast charging issues!!!!!

soo my issue is the fast charging.
first few days it was fast charging everything worked fine after that it stoped fast charging. when i plug it in it dosent show "fast charge connected" insted it shows " usb ".... so i thought something wrong with the cable so i changed it.... so i changed just the cable not the plug works fine. my first thought is that the cable is broken or something,
1. can that be true that the cable is not proper build?
2. does it affect anything that i charge my phone with an older cable?
Just double check under settings, power settings, fast charging is still checked. Once I accidently uncheked it.

no no the fast charging is checked.... like i said with the cable that came with the phone fast charging is not working...... other cables yes everythings normal
That's odd because the cable has nothing to do with it. Maybe your stock cable has been damaged.
I don't know it's confusing to me too. because the first two days it was working great after that It's not fast charging . maybe my cable was bad made!! but fast charging is working with another cable l have from my old s3 !

Also does it affect something on my battery that im using an old cable for fast charging???

How do you know of fast charging is working? Thought the screen had to be off?
Yes the cable will affect fast charging. Fast charging only works with cables of certain gauge (thickness). You must have damaged your cable, or it was already damaged before you got it. Don't worry this has no effect on the battery, no degradation.

ok so the cable could have been already damaged...... the thing is when i fast charge it with the other cable it charges the same time as the cable that came with the phone.... i also noticed that i get the same battery life also...... sooooo i there must be no harm at all right????
rapid charging multiple issues
My Note 4 did the same thing: 1st charge worked great, then it started showing connected to the RC, but unable to charge and flashing LED. Sometimes it still charges okay (not rapid) and sometimes really crawls. The "not able to charge" plops up every few minutes. Word was that there was a chord issue with the OEM and that they were fixed, but replacing the ones that were shipped already with a problem. That didn't fix my issue. The new word is that it's a device issue in some cases. For me, it does appear to be the device since I've done a FDR and tested multiple chargers, chords, OEM and carrier options. Contacting Samsung today as a DOA device. I'll let you know what happens. :fingers-crossed:

If you are hooking it up to a computer to charge, you will not get fast charging. It has to be plugged in with the power plug only to get a fast charge.

I got a replacement device by warranty and it's charging exactly as it should. All of my cables and plugs are working.
Wow...it's fast...faster than expected even! I'm loving the new Note, now! Just one of those things that happens sometimes.
Good luck with getting yours working. I should think it would be covered by the warranty.
Happy holidays to you and yours!
replacement
How long did it take to get a replacement? Had my phone for almost a month now and its very on /off with the charging. When i first got it it showed fast charger connected and got 50% charge as advertised in half an hour. Now it will, if im lucky charge maybe 10% in an hour. Just now, went to bed with 13%. 5hrs later it got to 32%. Havent tried a different cable and plug combo yet.

Another thing to check, make sure the standard usb end is snug in the charging adapter. Mine wasn't fast charging, but it was slow charging (I think - showed lightening bolt in battery icon) and then I pushed the usb into the fast charging wall adapter a little more and it resolved the issue

I've had my Note since December last. It was fast charging just fine for about a month then I noticed it became sporadic, then it went to slow charge after that, then stopped charging altogether.
I changed the cable and it started to fast charge again for about a month and the same thing happened. It just deteriorated over time until it stopped charging.. So this is what I've been doing since. I'm on my third cable now. I've been wondering if the higher voltage etc, that enables the fast charge feature breaks the cable down. Just a thought:confused.
I had the same issue when I just got my note 4 a few months back. It turn out to be the charger that is causing the problem. I went to the service centre (in Singapore), the reception told me it is a common problem with the charger. Had it changed and the problem solved.

That's a sign of a bad battery or a problem with the charger or USB cable. If you have any old chargers and jab cables lying around (even if not QC3.0) try one of them. If that still doesn't fix it, then you have a defective battery.

I stated I knew someone with the issue and you are saying that that batteries are bad..shrug... It's a software issue that has come up on other devices besides the V20.

Phone charging extremely slowly.

My Moto G4 Plus charges super slowly.
Like it would take 6 hours to charge from 0 to 100, no matter what charger I use, even the Turbo charger.
However, if I reboot the phone, the phone charges quickly, but after a day's use, it's back to slow charging when I plug it in at night.
I have no idea what's causing this, I am on the 'NPJ25.93-14' build and I had reset the phone once after updating it to this build and before using it.
This doesn't seem to be related to any app because the discharge rate is normal.
Can someone help me out with this issue please? I don't really want to reset

The cable and the turbo adapter, make sure they are super connected to each other. Like, the USB at the end of the cable is sooooo in the adapter. You may think at first that it is all the way in but actually it should be all the way IN there. Happened to me the first time I was charging my phone. I didn't realize it was not all the way in. Push it more.

Then that might be the problem. Not all sockets have the same amount of voltage. You may be plugging it in a low voltage socket that causes your phone to charge very slow. The socket where it charges fast, that's where you should charge it.

This is some kind of software related issue, how come does a reboot fix the issue?

This can be solved very easily. Just have to use a different way of approach.
First:
Keep charging around 50%(not necessarily but will help you to notice changes).
Second:
Play a hard core game( which will drain your battery rapidly). Then again charge till where you had in first step(approximation not necessary).
Third:
Till now your phone will be super heated(its moto g4 plus obviously).
Plug in the charger again and repeat step second.
Fourth:
Battery will not charge for few min(may take upto 30min or so).
Then it will start charging slowing.charge upto 5% then stop playing game.
Fifth:
leave the phone aside and do other works.
Sixth:
when phone will charge 90%+ , remove charging and start using phone, it will drain more quickly.
Seventh:
Drop 10-20%. Let the phone cool down (like ice). Then use very less frequently for about an hour.
Eight:
Start charging again. And here you go its again in turbo charging.
//Step are not complicated and are subjected to change according to phone conditions.
Result depends on user and phone set only.//
T&C applied.

You will need to replace Flash Flex Cable. It controls G4/plus fast charging. It´s relatively easy to replace by yourself.

Charging my S5 with non-OEM cable?

Hey guys, yesterday i noticed something strange: it took 3+ hours to charge my S5 from 8% to 100%. I remember that it used to take around 2 hours at the very maximum from 0% to 100%. Then i remembered that my cable with which I'm charging is not the original one (it got cut long ago) but the charger itself is the original. Is something wrong with my battery? Is the charger bad? Should i search for an OEM usb cable? I don't mind it if it charges for longer as i charge it at night but still, this got me a bit worried that it can degrade my battery overall by keeping it hot for longer than needed. Thanks for any answers.

My phone gets hot when I use a non OEM cord as well. But its never hurt my phone. I've been doing it for probably a year now. As for the longer charge time is it suddenly taking longer with this cord or is it taking longer because you are now using the cord?

Different cords have different capabilities depending how they were made. There's even some that only give power and no data transfer. Samsung makes fast charge technology for their devices. Other cords may or may not support it.

It comes with the USB cord as well. And I'm pretty sure fast charge tech is both the handset and the charger itself. I read the charger is 1.5x faster then a normal one even if its not going to a device with fast charge and 2x faster if it is. I didn't mean to quote myself either. Lol

Charging from normal USB is not working properly

Not sure if the latest update caused issues, or its a fault on my phone.
But i have just been trying to charge my One plus5 from a normal 5v charger.
This would normally give me around >1000mA charge
But I've tried a few chargers, and different cables and all i can get now is less than 200mA.
BTW, My normal dash charger charges correctly
Any suggestion on this fault?
Would i need to do a reinstall on my phone? or could this be hardware?.
Edited to add:
coudln't charge off any other cable other than the supplied Oneplus charger cable. All other charges would give either no charge or reduced to 10% of normal mAh.
No other cable than the original could be used for data. many other cables were tried, all failed.
Thanks in advance

But I've tried a few chargers, and different cables and all i can get now is less than 200mA.
BTW, My normal dash charger charges correctly
Any suggestion on this fault?
Would i need to do a reinstall on my phone? or could this be hardware?
Thanks in advance

How did you measure it? Maybe the port isn't clean which results in lowered current. It's surely not an software issue.
I have an app called Ampere, that i have used regularly for the past couple of years and it shows the amp useage. Its actually really quite useful as you can see which of your cables are cack. (some cables have really poor connectivity)
I had also noticed that it can take literally hours to recharge now via USB (non-dash).
I updated to Marshmallow recently.. but that may be a pure coincidence..

Ampere is indeed a good app. But what do you mean with marshmallow? On op5?
Also what's with the cleaning of the port, which is the most obvious reason when you tested cables and chargers? How's your device temperature?
oops, my mistake.. not marshmallow.. Android 9, which is Pie.
The phone feels ok temperature wise, and I've given the port a good blow but I've got an air canister back home so will try that later.. good suggestion though.
but, btw, when i use my Dash charger, everything is fine. could fluff affect one and not the other?

Sure, that's possible.
Update: -
I ended up getting the USB port changed and all the issues went away.
Thought I would do an update in case anyone else has this issue.
