so, I am running 100% stock mtg4 on tmo. I just acquired a 1st refurb iPad yesterday that has work flawlessly with the mtg4 hotspot. However, my building at work only let's me have edge. when I enabled hotspot while on edge, the ssid won't show on my iPad nor other devices around the office. but as soon as I walk outside and get hpsa, my phone broadcasts the ssid and all is well.
is there any reason why hotspot would disable itself if all that is available is edge? I have been using PDA Net tethering my laptop occasionally over edge, and other than being slow it worked.
so, I am infer in the native hotspot code most be disabling itself if the phone is on edge...
any other people notice this behavior?
I can't speak for stock, but ...
Should you elect to root your phone and use a custom ROM, I can confirm that CM7's WiFi tethering works fine while on an EDGE connection. Where I work, EDGE is the only possible service, and I have the phone toggled 2G only when there to save battery.
Just this morning I noticed that I cannot maintain a constant connection for my laptop to my Verizon rooted S5 via hotspot. I opened the hotspot details on the cell and I can see the laptop constantly connecting and disconnecting every second or quicker. I just now started having this issue, but have been able to use this feature for about a month (since I rooted the device). I have tried restarting the laptop and cell and the laptop is listed as a trusted device when I look at the details under hotspot. Any ideas on what I can do so my laptop can stay connected to my cell via hotspot?
Cell Details:
Android Version 5.0 rooted stock BPB1
Unlimited data plan
EDIT: I truly believe the issue is with the cell, I brought a tablet and was able to connect my laptop and tablet. Once I started to use my laptop, the wifi connection started to go in and out for both the laptop and tablet. I also have the same issue when trying to connect my tablet alone and noticed that my tablet received an authentication error. I've tried testing this at home and seem to have no issues, when I'm at either of my work locations, the issue can be constant or sometimes will not happen at all.

Hello All,
I've been using my S4 since the model was released and in general I'm very satisfied with it.
Earlier this year upgraded to Android 5.0.1 and all is good.
Now, the issue I'm having. Recently I got one of those cheap wi-fi repeaters
For some reason my phone stays connected to it for only few seconds then the wi-fi connection drops. I've tried connecting to the repeater with a laptop (HP Zbook 15) and all was good.
Also, I've noticed a lot of topics about S4 wi-fi issues with different wi-fi routers but till now I never had such.
So, my question is, has anybody used such repeater successfully with galaxy S4 (i.e. should I look for solution in my setup or its this model repeater's fault).
Thank you forward!
Hi
I got my s8 two days ago and I have a weird problem with the device. I'm trying to use the wifi hotspot but some devices can not connect to the network.
My old android phone and some other phones and laptops can use the connection but I busted my ass to connect my macbook pro to the hotspot but it's not possoble.
The network is visible but when I click on it to connect, it says "Move closer to the router" in mac and the connection is limited on windows. Some other devices can connect and use the network but that damn macbook is my primary device.
I'm out of ideas... can anybody please help?
Should I return the phone and get another one?
Anybody?!
Hi All,
I am trying to automate enabling hotspot when connected to my car's bluetooth. I tried with both Tasker and Automate applications and from what I can tell, it cannot be done without root access. I have not seen a successful root for the S8 yet (could be overlooking) but is there any way to actually achieve what I am looking for?
Never heard of automated Bluetooth - hotspot setup before
Sent from my VS987 using Tapatalk
Not with BT per say, but I used to achieve auto hotspots in my car on my OP3 with a little NFC tag.
Was stuck on my car holder. Worked a treat.
It can be done. In fact, I did it for my car. So yes, tasker is a way to go. So in tasker you do:
Trigger: State->BT connected->Name CAR KIT.
Then single Task WiFi Tether ON.
No root is needed to do that and it works.
I use 'Hot Spot Starter' Creates the wifi hotspot all the time automatically when connected to the car via Bluetooth
This works for you guys w/ the S8??

This does not work on my S8 (T-Mobile). It says it is turing on the hotspot and will actually turn of my WiFi, but the hotspot does not turn on.
I also tried HotSpot Starter and I get the same results. It turns off my WiFi, but does not turn the HotSpot on.
Anyone have a confirmed way of doing this on an S8?
This does not work w/ the S8. There is another plugin which works. The dev of tasker is no help for us S8 people saying it is our carrier which it clearly is not since it doesn't work on sprint either.

just use bixby ... create a quick command with all u have to toggle.
i use the word "start Driving" to turn on mobile hotspot and turn off wifi , then turn on bluetooth.
"finish drive" does the reverse
the native tasker hotspot toggle doesn't work for most of us w/ s8s

Probably the trick is to install a SM-G950U1 firmware instead of native carrier's SM-G950U firmware. I got my U1 firmware over here https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-s8/how-to/eng-boot-root-t3608353
Here is solution for you, it works on galaxy s8, note8 and android 8.0 oreo
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.carspot.wifi
Was struggling with this issue for a while, tasker tricks didn't help and autoinput looked not very reliable/convenient.
Solution I found -
1. just install GoodLock from Galaxy Store: http://apps.samsung.com/appquery/appDetail.as?appId=com.samsung.android.goodlock
2. In the application main menu Enable/Install "Routines" component
3. Configure your routine - select bluetooth connection in Condition and "Turn Hotspot On" in action section.
As the app was developed by Samsung, it has access to enable hotspot by default. Works on my galaxy S8+ with latest android Pie update.
Whoops, wrong thread! Sorry
