Galaxy S8 mobile hotsppt problem? - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hi
I got my s8 two days ago and I have a weird problem with the device. I'm trying to use the wifi hotspot but some devices can not connect to the network.
My old android phone and some other phones and laptops can use the connection but I busted my ass to connect my macbook pro to the hotspot but it's not possoble.
The network is visible but when I click on it to connect, it says "Move closer to the router" in mac and the connection is limited on windows. Some other devices can connect and use the network but that damn macbook is my primary device.
I'm out of ideas... can anybody please help?
Should I return the phone and get another one?

Anybody?!

Tether 2 phones together?

I know this seems almost pointless...But I have both the Diamond 2 on att, with an unlimited data plan, and the Droid Eris through a pre paid. I want to know if it is possible to use the "Wi-Fi Router" on the Diamond 2 to share internet with my Droid Eris?
Ive tried a few times, and I think it might have to do with the Diamond2 showing ps as IBSS ad hoc connection.
Is there another way? or is it even possible to begin with?
The reason is just so that if I run out of data on the prepaid, I can connect to the Diamond2 if i really need to if im not near a wifi spot.
I dunno if this helps but I tethered my xperia to my blackberry by using the blackberry as a "bluetooth modem". I'm not sure if theres such a setting in android (probably)
Take a look, see if it can be done without wifi
thanks, but im trying to connect through my Diamond 2 and unfortunately android doesnt ask me what services I want to use when they are paired.
Android does not connect to ad-hoc connections out of the box. You need to root your Eris. But as far as I can tell, no one has figured out to root it yet.
I'm trying the same thing...
But my setup is attempting to use internet sharing or the WMWiFi application to share internet to the bluetooth of a Samsung Propel Pro to the bluetooth of an older Samsung Blackjack with no sim card. Just to get the older BJ to see the internet, but I can't see to get Bluetooth PAN working on the setup.
Is this possible to do? What am I missing?
anyone got an idea. this would be a cool trick to do. Cheapest VOIP Cheapest VOIP calls
i know that if u can put both connection to ur pc from wifi with both or to wifi with on and usb with the other. in network connections u can "bridge" the connection

This is a BIG Deal!!

This phone doesn't support ad hoc wifi connections? I'm currently on travel overseas and I can't seem to share an Internet connection with my laptop (connected via LAN) or iPhone 3GS (local 3G service). Has anyone been able to detect an ad hoc wifi network with this phone.
I can detect ad hoc networks with 3rd party wifi apps on the marketplace but when I attempt to connect, it directs me to the general wifi settings screen where the network is gone!!
Anyone else with this issue?
Did you ever see that it was an international phone?
WTF?? I'm talkin about a Wifi connection here buddy...lol. The EVO 4G doesn't detect or connect to ad hoc wifi networks. That's the topic...
while i dont know if it does or doesnt...i could believe it...because there is a few phones out there that dont - blackberry is one.
The wireless tether app for Android makes it into an ad hoc device.
But the problem is that it won't DETECT an ad-hoc device. Interesting. So if I had, say a hero with WiFi tether enabled, I wouldn't be able to see the WiFi with my EVO?
I don't connect to ad-hoc networks myself, unless I"m trying to tether something (the only use I can see.) Interesting that the EVO can't see them though, they should still show up..huh.
Seems to be some type of security feature on the device (WiFi Scanner app detects) that prevents it from detecting ad hoc wireless networks. My PS3 also has the same issue. Just wanted to point it out the issue...perhaps we need to root to manually connect?
just to be clear, you're trying to share your laptops internet with your Evo?
Yes, the laptop has Internet access via LAN and I am using the built in ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) Wifi Sharing on Windows Vista. Every other device I've had before had no issue detecting the network...I can see the access point right now on my iPhone and iPod Touch :-/
Found this workaround:
http://www.soligard.com/technology/how-to-connect-htc-hero-to-ad-hoc-wifi-network/
I'll try this later and report back.
I don't know if I'm experiencing the same problem but maybe someone can tell what I'm doing wrong. I rooted my phone by unrevoked and installed the Android-Wifi-Tether program. I've activated the program and it's sending out a signal. I then use my Windows Vista comp. to located it and it shows my phone as an "Ad-Hoc Network" when I connect to it, it says your computer is not configured for this. I'm not sure now what I should do, is there a problem with my EVO, or this something I need to do with the computer.
OP you are absolutely correct. I actually was trying the exact example you stated. I had created an ad-hoc wireless hotspot/network via Wireless Tether App on my Hero and my EVO just plain did not see it. It saw a million other networks that were much farther away, but not my Hero that was right next to it. This is unfortunate. Hopefully a workaround is found soon.
A lot of devices don't connect via an Ad Hoc network... which makes me wonder what its purpose even is :/ One reason I submitted the idea (true wifi hotspot) I did to the WP7 app contest.
This is what made me return my Archos 5 Android tablet and stick to my iPod Touch.
My scenario, i have a Sprint Treo and an iPod Touch (and iPad as well) and usually turn my Treo into a wifi router via wmwifirouter and use iPod Touch this way. Been doing this for years (with other devices too like the Nokia N800/N810), and wanted to test out Android. I got the Archos 5 tablet and was saddened not to be able to use my Treo's ad-hoc wifi. Back it went.
It seems that Android devices do not connect to ad-hoc wifi networks. Shame indeed. Also i think the Zune HD does not connect to ad-hoc as well.
Is it an O.S specific issue?

"Reverse tethering" using PC internet connection

Hello all,
after reading and searching a few hours about this, I have to make a new thread because I cant manage to make it work.
I have got an cable internet connection at work, and and samsung galaxy. I want to use my computers internet connection to get my galaxy online. There seems to be something like an ad hoc internet connection which can be shared over wifi using connectify. The problem although is that this can only be used with windows 7 and unfortunately my work pc is still XP...
My previous phone was an HTC HD2, and now I was satisfied with the galaxy, but when the HD2 was connected with active sync, it automatically used the pc's internet connection.... Huge fail in my opinion!
any suggestions here to make it work?
thank you!
Maybe this?
Everybody would like to thank you for opening a new topic on an overdisscused subject!
Sent from my fingers!
ad hoc on a win7 won't work out of the box with your i9000(undiscoverable network), i give winxp a better change. =/
I also tried to use an ad-hoc network with Windows 7 - no luck, the Galaxy doesn't detect the network for some reason. I am able to detect and connect to the ad-hoc network with an iPad however... odd.
Hi
Nice thread.
Actually I've been using a WinMob since last many years and now shifted to SGS.
WM 2002-WM6.5 all when connected via usb to PC use PC internet connections. No tethering or reverse of the same is required. This is painfully missing in android phones, I've checked with HTC desire also.
SMS management also in WM was much better and advances, You can have drafts, sent, outbox separate storages and folders. I had over 300 msgs in drafts, here no such option.
ad-hoc
I guys, i think i can help with some info.
In some foruns the solution is to unroot the deviceand install some apps.
I would prefer to do it without unrooting.

Win7 Laptop Wi Hotspot tablet problems

Hello. First of all I want to apologize for my bad English... I'm still learning it. Second of all, this problem is appearing on any device I try to connect to my PC's Wifi Hotspot, but to be specific:
- Huawei Ascend Y511
- Samsung Galaxy Y (GT5360, not really sure for that one, I don't have access to check the exact model)
- Vonino Sirius QS (Tablet)
- Prestigio Quantum Multipad 4 (9.7" / Tablet)
- Samsung Galaxy Tab3 8.0
- Samsung Galaxy S4 / S5
- LG G Flex
(I have a hobby to collect different phones and tablets, yeah... it's crazy I know )
Recently I installed Windows 7 on my laptop because the old windows XP was bugged completely... The only working components were the browser and the Bluetooth (Which is not working currently). First of all I tried to start a wifi hotspot from the networking and sharing center that comes with Windows 7, but I couldn't manage to do so. So I went to another option - softwares that enable the Wifi Hotspot on your laptop. The best result I got was Connectify, but I don't have the funds to buy it, so I used it temporarly (a week or so), and then it stopped working (Ethernet Sharing problems). Since then all the softwares I tried are starting the Wifi Hotspot, but when I try to connect every device gets stuck at "Obtaining IP Adress...". I tried looking for solutions, but I couldn't find anything that helps. I tried setting the IP adress to automatically obtain IP adress (The one in the change adapter settings tab in Control Panel), but then the network itself does not want to work. I ran out of ideas on how I can fix this...
Just some additional info: The local area connection is shared and the wifi is allowed, also the WLAN Autoconfig service is working properly.
Refresh IP

Try checking your IP Configuration and refresh the IP In the Windows Internet and Sharing Center.
