Let's talk about the build quality. - Samsung Galaxy S10+ Questions & Answers

Why does the back glass vibrate and resonate in my hand when anything that is played at 50% or so is played?
Seems like Samsung forgot to add some dynomat. [emoji23]

Because it has best speaker from most phones in market, sound == vibrations.
And if we gona talk about build quality i also must say its one of best built phones i ever saw.
Only wish their software was a bit better..hardware is phenomenal.

The phone got the best speaker on earth. It reminds of these Puerto ricans with multiple color fender, doors and bumpers on their 1990 honda civic, but they got a nice sound system. The trunk would rattle like it's nobody's business

Perhaps we need to attach some sound deadening to the back of our phones lol.
I just find it hard to believe that when Samsung designed this phone and put the speakers on to test, they accepted the back resonating like this. Putting on my Steve Jobs hat.. what is this garbage! Haha

I don't notice the vibration much. I use a case and it's ceramic. Doesn't vibrate as much as my pixel 3. That's the king of vibration. Doesn't bother me though.

Samsung headphone.

Is it me or the Galaxy Note headphones are not that bad. I especially like the volume controls; makes it easier to listen to music without touching the phone.
Music sounds good. What do you guys think?

i think they are pretty good considering they came with the phone.
I just wish they were black. White makes it look kind of Appleish.
Have you guys tried making calls with the headphones? If not, would you mind trying and reporting on call quality, volume, etc.? Thanks!
i LOVED them, my favorite headset, i have better headphones but as a headset these are my fav, i also dropped a screwdriver on the cable a cut the cable on them already, heartbroken, better to have loved and lost

Oops.... my brain just infringed on at least one of their patents....
Seriously though... any comments on call quality (in and out) on the headset?
Thinking of getting a Note, quick question regarding the headset. Does it come apart above the handsfree mic so that you can connect your own buds?
If not is there a handsfree cable I can buy that would do this?
I use them over my Klipsch S4i's cause of the built in controls, and I love my S4i's.
My only complaint is that these headphones are two big for my ears... I have tried to use the smallest that was included but still too big..I Think my ears do not like earphones..

I take it they don't come apart then, you can't plug your s4i's into the mic section?
If not it looks like this set is in two pieces, any idea if they would work?

call quality is fine on both ends!
i had a samsung s2 before and it was really suck. when i get my note, i dont even bother to open it at all. until one day my apple earpiece is spoilt. and then i notice that the note earpiece comes with volume control. the sound quality is so good that the crispiness of the sound is almost perfect!!! OMG!
You cannot plug your own headphones into the samsung pair, it's solid.
Personally I think there is no bass, and for music the sound is dull.
Treble is not amazing as well, I'd cut it, and solder a female 3.5" connector, make it plug-able.
I hate them. I hate earplugs that goes in the ear, so i'm still using my HTC plugs that IMO has better bass than Samsung's.

Supposedly one is for the microphone, or something like that. This has been discussed before in these forums.
Thanks. Must have missed it. But still, finding it out this way kinda suck.
-LG G2
One is the phone mic. It would be difficult for the other caller to hear you if it weren't there. Plus, who would put stereo speakers that close together and in portrait?

Copying is a common thing to do in the industry. Even Nokia has speakers/mics on the bottom. Did Apple copy Nokia with the colorful iPhone 5C? It's nothing new and no one company can say they haven't been influenced by the design choices of another.

If they copy good things, I don't have any problem ) for example my Note 3 has its speaker on the bottom which Samsung probably copied from Apple, it usually gets blocked and I hate it.

For the love of god ... Why Samsung

Why Samsung? Why? speaker on the back? I love the note 4 the only really negative thing I have to say is why the speaker on the back of the device and not on the bottom like my note 3 ? I'm already finding myself laying the phone face down on the beautiful screen to hear any type of music, potentially scratching the screen. Sorry just ranting
Poor you... I wish I had your problems. Nevermind that a cellphone speaker sounds like complete garbage no matter where it's positioned. Maybe you should return the Note 4 and get a boombox instead.

You can edit the mixer_paths.xml and boost you speaker if you are rooted. I know it isnt really fix for the speaker but since you cant physically move the speaker to a new position , its all you really got . For me personally it doesnt make a difference but Im not coming from the Note 3 , Im coming from the GS5 which has the same speaker position.
HTC is the only company that got it right.

Sorry im not a audiophile I guess like yourself, sounds doesn't sound that bad to me the speaker placement was a horrible choice should've just left it on the bottom like the note3 would of been way better than where its at now. Im wondering if they did that because of the finger print scanner.

probably so we wont scratch that 20 inch camera on the back! I mean, why is it even poking out like that?!?!!??! its begging to be scratched, get broken if its continuously place on the back /rant

Not having stereo on the X was disappointing but then again not really a big deal on a device that's so small. We'll see how the 6 fairs
the note 4 isnt geared towards sound hence, why samsung doesnt waste R&D on speakers that most people rarely use. I rarely use my speakers on my notes. If im not bluetoothed or streaming, its on silent. lol
The speaker on the Note 4 is clearer and louder than that on the Note 3. Fact.

When at work, I lay my phone face up on a pack of sticky notes.

You won't scratch the screen from putting it screen down on a table. Gorilla glass is amazing man! I do agree that speakers on the rear suck though.

I have to agree there, I feel if i need to blast music they would be attach to some form of speaker lol. other wise, the sound is being stream through my bluetooth...or being stream to my tv lol
I hear there is a patent that stops them from putting it on the front.... Not 100% sure but I guess it's possible. I agree it's stupid being on the back but this Note 4 is a beast. I came from a Galaxy S5.
For me the speakers are perfect since I hold my phone with one hand and two i usually have a finger in the bottom holding the phone up and it used to cover the bottom speakers on my note 3, I sounds good and clear what do you expect surround sound.

Has any phone ever used the front speaker for calls and system/media audio? I would think it would be pretty obvious to move the back speaker to the front and control the volume with software depending on if your in a call or playing music or whatever.
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app
The speaker is really the only thing left in the Note series that could really use some improvement. Everything gets incremental upgrades except for the speaker.
the speaker on the back is lame imo, but it does sound very good-so not sure how much I can really complain. It is very loud using speakerphone speaker and the ringtone/alarm. Certainly better than the Note 2/3 that I owned.
the HTC M* is still the best for media output for youtube or other video playback. I still wish HTC would have made a M8 5.97" phone.
The biggest problem with a rear speaker, is that when the phone is lying on it's back, the sound gets extremely muffled. This is especially true when using a case. Horrible, horrible design choice by Samsung.

even if it was a 1.5W speaker the protective coating would diminish it a bit especially for such a small driver.
How do you figure? Note 5 isn't waterproof lol. And as for the single speaker, I think there is another speaker in the ear part at the top. 1.2w I think. And the bottom one is a 1.5w

The S7/EDGE are water proof which I was refering to.
I have asked on another thread, but I wonder for those who have tested the speakers whether you have used the HTC devices with front facing speakers, how does the s7 edge compare to them? I ask as if I was to get the S7 edge, I'd be coming from the HTC One M9+.

I guess none of you have used Smart Switch before? It's something I used on the daily working at T-Mobile to transfer data on customers' phones. The noise you're hearing IS coming from the speaker, it's an ultra-sonic noise emitted that the receiving phone that would be running Smart Switch, would pick up with its microphone and use it as a means of pairing. Think of it like the new Google Nearby API... If you ever play with a Nexus running Nougat, you'll have a similar experience transferring accounts and app install lists. It used to be an NFC pairing, now using the Nearby API it scans wifi, Bluetooth, and ultra-sonic pairing noises are probably also possible using it.

Yeah... still my phone gets hot and i still have a perfectly working note 5. I think I might just go back to that. Started SmartSwitch on that and can a very fain noise, not even comparable with the note 7.
TL;DR: It's fine, no one has a malfunctioning speaker in their Note 5 or Note 7.
Grab another device or 2, non-Samsung, and try Smart Switch to hear how each device's speaker is audibly different. Don't worry. It's by design for both phones. It's the limitations of the N5 speaker that prevent such a wide dynamic range to be reproduced. The speaker on the 7 has to also be water resistant. You ever hear any phone inside a Lifeproof case? The biggest complaint I hear is that it muffles the sound. Samsung didn't want that compromise the speaker experience when they went for their resistance rating. Just wanted to try and tamper down the hatred on an otherwise beautiful (if pricey) device. The battery fiasco sucks for them right now. No need to go all TMZ and try and put salt in their wounds by causing mass hysteria. Even the few other replies in this post could be quickly read and someone flies off the handle and goes to the nearest store.

For those who DO care about the retail aspect of this recall, this is going to be a VERY rough time for T-Mobile Reps, they're put under a TON of pressure to hit sales goals, and if they spend too much time doing customer service, their numbers suffer and they lose their jobs. Trust me, I know, I worked just shy of 2 years at a corporate kiosk in a mall that's probably going to be closed before the holidays. It was already a losing battle trying to hit goals, doing exceptional customer service to promote "Brand Loyalty" in yourself as a sales rep was a recipe for not even hitting 50% during the month of December.
