Is it me or the Galaxy Note headphones are not that bad. I especially like the volume controls; makes it easier to listen to music without touching the phone.
Music sounds good. What do you guys think?

i think they are pretty good considering they came with the phone.
I just wish they were black. White makes it look kind of Appleish.
Have you guys tried making calls with the headphones? If not, would you mind trying and reporting on call quality, volume, etc.? Thanks!
i LOVED them, my favorite headset, i have better headphones but as a headset these are my fav, i also dropped a screwdriver on the cable a cut the cable on them already, heartbroken, better to have loved and lost

Oops.... my brain just infringed on at least one of their patents....
Seriously though... any comments on call quality (in and out) on the headset?
Thinking of getting a Note, quick question regarding the headset. Does it come apart above the handsfree mic so that you can connect your own buds?
If not is there a handsfree cable I can buy that would do this?
I use them over my Klipsch S4i's cause of the built in controls, and I love my S4i's.
My only complaint is that these headphones are two big for my ears... I have tried to use the smallest that was included but still too big..I Think my ears do not like earphones..

I take it they don't come apart then, you can't plug your s4i's into the mic section?
If not it looks like this set is in two pieces, any idea if they would work?

call quality is fine on both ends!
i had a samsung s2 before and it was really suck. when i get my note, i dont even bother to open it at all. until one day my apple earpiece is spoilt. and then i notice that the note earpiece comes with volume control. the sound quality is so good that the crispiness of the sound is almost perfect!!! OMG!
You cannot plug your own headphones into the samsung pair, it's solid.
Personally I think there is no bass, and for music the sound is dull.
Treble is not amazing as well, I'd cut it, and solder a female 3.5" connector, make it plug-able.
I hate them. I hate earplugs that goes in the ear, so i'm still using my HTC plugs that IMO has better bass than Samsung's.

now i don't know how to explain this really, but here we go. five minutes ago, i decided to plug my hd2 headphones into my computer so i'd be able to listen to a movie. twice now, once in each ear, i've gotten SHOCKED. i thought for whatever reason, static could have charged and been stored inside the soft ear-bud covers. after being shocked inside of my right ear, i took them off (soft ear-bud covers) and put the Left ear-bud into my left ear. three minutes later, SAME THING. it seemed like it happened when there was cracking in the audio during the movie. i swapped them out, replayed the area where i heard the cracking, and wasn't shocked...with my old G1 ear-buds. i've got that really low carpet in my office and always get shocked when reaching for the doorknob, that's why i suggested static in the first place...or maybe it's just a crazy design flaw!? either way, it really did hurt and i don't know what course of action i should take. has anyone else experienced this?
rob
it's definitely the headphones. i've gotten up, walked around, sat down...and with my G1 headphones, i haven't gotten shocked once, even during the audio cracking in the movie! i guess i'll be calling tmobile.
I got shocked twice, then thought to myself,
"why am I using the stock headsets? I deserve to be shocked".

Yep, I'm using my pair of Sennheiser ones for radio and anything else. As general rules, for every single mobile device, stock headphones suck monkey balls anyway. At least on my Sennheiser, I have noise isolation and some basses.
it may also be your computers sound card. ive owned many headphones over the time, but the ones i tried in my computer with a creative sound card shocked me. Now i have a Lenovo laptop, and have never experienced that with any headphones...
i would try the headset in another soundcard/pc jus to be sure what it is

I do exactly the same, I just can't stand those plug thingies in my ears. And of course, the quality of the Sennheiser is another world.
I have a strange issue with it though. Whenever I use the Sennheiser the phone auto-dials somebody from my favourite contacts list. I found out that if I wiggle the connector a little I can reproduce this effect. It also seems to be a problem reported on other HTC phones.
Should be related to the 4-ring (tip-ring-ring-base) connector on the stock earphone versus the 3-rings (tip-ring-base) on the Sennheiser. But how? Or is it?
Hey all, the audio quality from the speakers are supposed to be a selling point of the phone.. not many reviewers speak about it in the video review or even give an example of what it sounds like... so not intuitive and extra frustrating lol. Does anyone have it and can compare it to the HTC one boom sound quality or the Iphone 4s good speaker quality? Now that i have an HTC One, the only way i would go to the LG G2 is if the audio quality from the speakers hold up to the hype LG displayed at their event. replies are appreciated.
Im with you as no review has done anything with the sound. I will say in this phonearena review https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVA7jg1KB-k&feature=youtube_gdata_player that he says although the G2 sounds great it doesnt have the depth the htc one has with its boom sound but that still leaves us in the dark.

yeah i watched that yesterday... again left in the dark... i was hoping that it sounded close to the HTC One as it's the best audio i've heard on a phone next to the Iphone 4 and 4s. thanks for the reply!
Are you talking about audio from the external speaker, or audio out to headphones? If external speaker, I'm thinking you'd be disappointed vs. the HTC One, as the G2 only has a single mono speaker on the bottom right as you face the screen. The grill on the bottom left is the microphone.

yeah i was referring to the External speakers and thats a bummer.. i thought they were stereo speakers with two at the bottom... something like the apple has at the bottom of their iphone. I don't know if i'd let the speakers bother you, much. Then again i can't tell you what and what not to do.
A phone will never have audiophile sound from speakers. Sure, we can justify it sounding good because of what it is. I've heard the iphone speakers and i've heard the htc speakers. Yes, for a phone they are great, but that's about it. With that being said, i'd never rock out with phone speakers. They help get the point across, but i'll be reaching for hi-end gear to make those beautiful music notes shine.

right.. but the reason i'm intrigued is because they're supposed to be really good.. LG had a presentation on the speakers. The Htc one sounds very very good.. it could come out of the box louder but there's a way you can make them louder and still sound crisp. It's second to none i've tried so far. going to something lesser than hurts the mind and deprives the ears when you know there's a better option.

The Hi-Fi sound is in regards to being able to play 24 bit/192kHz Hi-Fi playback. The only way to take advantage of this is having high enough quality media and using a nice set of headphones. The external speaker has nothing to do with this, and from what I've seen it's not all that great.

99.9% sure, based on a post I read from someone who already has the phone, as well as the phone's manual, which only draws a line to one grill with the "Speaker" label. No manual is perfect, but I'm fairly confident that a split line would have been drawn to each grill if it had stereo external speakers.
Right side is the only speaker. It sounds better than the GS4, but not as good as the HTC One.

Look at the Verizon version... It has speakers only on right side.

The speaker(s) on the lg g2 do sound better than the s3. Can't comment on the s4. The lg g2 is more warm sounding and higher pitched timbre's sound more realistic vs the s3. They are of equal sound volume, however.
It's about as loud as my n4 but actually has more bass, not saying its much, but its more than a n4 or gs3.
i hate the fact that there's a built in compressor/limiter on the speakers, and there's some kind of weird stereo thing going on where it might only be giving ONE channel, rather than both left/right out of the speaker.
i rememebr reading on the international version that there was EQ settings and whatnot somewhere...wonder if we can unlock them somehow? then maybe we can turn that stupid limiter off.
Hey guys...dont know whether this has been asked before but i really dont know if this g2 has 1 or 2 speakers. Cos the sound only comes out of the right speaker. But in the manual looks like it has 2 speakers...can someone help me here? Thanks

Why Samsung? Why? speaker on the back? I love the note 4 the only really negative thing I have to say is why the speaker on the back of the device and not on the bottom like my note 3 ? I'm already finding myself laying the phone face down on the beautiful screen to hear any type of music, potentially scratching the screen. Sorry just ranting
Poor you... I wish I had your problems. Nevermind that a cellphone speaker sounds like complete garbage no matter where it's positioned. Maybe you should return the Note 4 and get a boombox instead.

You can edit the mixer_paths.xml and boost you speaker if you are rooted. I know it isnt really fix for the speaker but since you cant physically move the speaker to a new position , its all you really got . For me personally it doesnt make a difference but Im not coming from the Note 3 , Im coming from the GS5 which has the same speaker position.
HTC is the only company that got it right.

Sorry im not a audiophile I guess like yourself, sounds doesn't sound that bad to me the speaker placement was a horrible choice should've just left it on the bottom like the note3 would of been way better than where its at now. Im wondering if they did that because of the finger print scanner.

the note 4 isnt geared towards sound hence, why samsung doesnt waste R&D on speakers that most people rarely use. I rarely use my speakers on my notes. If im not bluetoothed or streaming, its on silent. lol

I have to agree there, I feel if i need to blast music they would be attach to some form of speaker lol. other wise, the sound is being stream through my bluetooth...or being stream to my tv lol
I hear there is a patent that stops them from putting it on the front.... Not 100% sure but I guess it's possible. I agree it's stupid being on the back but this Note 4 is a beast. I came from a Galaxy S5.
For me the speakers are perfect since I hold my phone with one hand and two i usually have a finger in the bottom holding the phone up and it used to cover the bottom speakers on my note 3, I sounds good and clear what do you expect surround sound.

Has any phone ever used the front speaker for calls and system/media audio? I would think it would be pretty obvious to move the back speaker to the front and control the volume with software depending on if your in a call or playing music or whatever.
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app
The speaker is really the only thing left in the Note series that could really use some improvement. Everything gets incremental upgrades except for the speaker.
the speaker on the back is lame imo, but it does sound very good-so not sure how much I can really complain. It is very loud using speakerphone speaker and the ringtone/alarm. Certainly better than the Note 2/3 that I owned.
the HTC M* is still the best for media output for youtube or other video playback. I still wish HTC would have made a M8 5.97" phone.
The biggest problem with a rear speaker, is that when the phone is lying on it's back, the sound gets extremely muffled. This is especially true when using a case. Horrible, horrible design choice by Samsung.
These things are incredible.
Used TIDAL Hi-Fi and on the EQ, turned up the 32hz lowest bass level all the way up. Incredible.
Much lighter than the beats that came with my HTC M7, but I haven't compared sound yet.
For me personally I don't like them at all I got used to using Bluetooth headphones and haven't been back since I'm not very happy with the included headphones so I went out and bought a Bluetooth Beats Solo 3 set and like those a lot. I got the over-the-ear kind .
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S8+
In my opinion they are way better than any beats headphones ive tried (Thats not saying much) I like them! But if it would have meant that the phone was 100 cheaper (or even 30$) if they didnt include them, that would have been nice.
Beats???seriously??

Very awkward shape and I don't like that they suction your ears so you literally can't hear anything outside.
they're good for bundled headphones. they sound comparable to $40-50 earbuds, definitely not the $99 that samsung claims they're worth.
They're better than I expected, but my $100 SE215s still blow them out of the water, so I wouldn't really call them anything near high end.

I still like Samsung's headphones from last year where it fit well but you could at least hear some of the outside world. Apple's earpods are decent too.
To me it's more about comfort and usability than quality. I have VMODA M100's for quality.
They are verry good. Plugged them into my pc...nice sound and loud. Verry dissapointed when im using yhem on my s8... Samsung did a poor job this year with the amplifier on this phone. Low bass...low volume. Htc M One and M8 are still the best phones for ppl that enjoy music on the go.
Coming from the Apple earpods, the AKG are just amazing.
The sound is better and the isolation is a killer compared to the earpods.
After personalizing the audio with Adapt Sound, and increasing the bass in the EQ, these headphones sound amazing.
I was pleasantly surprised by the AKG headphones. I've always been overly-attached to my BassBuds, but I could easily see myself using the AKG ones instead...especially as my kids love the BassBuds too and keep nicking off with them.
The sound isn't too bad, and I like the grey colour scheme. I find them a bit heavy on the bass right out of the box, but that works well when trying to ignore children. My only complaint would be that I don't find they sit in my ears very well. It is the main reason I love my BassBuds, they are comfortable and never fall out. I am doing a test run with the AKG headphones over the next week or so to see if they fall out.
Really uncomfortable for me. Even with larger tips, the bulky outside part is too close and actually hurts my ear. And sound was pretty meh. I am using Sennheiser Momentum earbuds at the moment. I have different set of issues with them (eartips fall out if you as much as look funny at them), but sound and comfort are great.
it is better than earphones came with previous Samsung phones, iPhone stock earphone, but you would get much better below 20 bucks earphone from Aliexrepss, especially Rock Zircon which is 12 bucks only.

it's quite the opposite for me.
they have a very weak sound for me because even with the largest size cover they don't seal properly.
i can get them to seal properly by wearing them upside down, but that starts to hurt after a while.
it's a shame they stopped with the regular earbuds with a "mouth"
they could get full sound without requiring a perfect seal and without putting pressure on my ears.

Nice Thanks
I don't think the engineers at Samsung thought this through. The placement of the mic will get covered by cases. So makes the mic useless.

I don't think the engineers at Samsung thought this through. The placement of the mic will get covered by cases. So makes the mic useless.

I think they anticipate users using the superior live bud mics. There's a huge sound difference using them.

I can't speak of the buds+, but yt reviews using the buds live are all glowingly positive.
We just got ours today, so we are still learning how to use them properly.
I've never owned noise canceling buds before these. But both my wife and I are delighted about them.
Here you can see it bettery on my Mystic White N20U
Oh wow that's neat! I didn't notice that on my N20U. Although yeah thats concerning to use with a case. I usually don't use cases but might on this phone at least when I take it out of the house.

Haven't taken or called yet with them in. But since the phones camera uses the live buds for superior sound pickup, I would think sound from them writings be the optimum option.
I'll comment again once I use them for a call or two.
