Facebook FCs - result of GPS?

The latest version of Facebook always force closes on me (after the first time it is loaded after a reload). I've read that the later versions of Facebook have a location function looking for a GPS or something to identify the whereabouts of the user. Is there a way to sideload an older version of FB that doesn't require location (or is there some other way around this)? I've tried setting the location in settings to every possible combination with no success.
I am running nightly 243 on my emmc. Thanks for any suggestions.
Install Gps teather lite. Start client then start facebook

Or, go to Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> All, pick the Facebook app and click on Uninstall. Since the Facebook app is part of the default GAPPS package, it will uninstall the update, and revert you back to the original (working) version.
I personally use an app called "Fake GPS" which does essentially the same thing that @ndinfla was talking about. It fakes a GPS location, and the newest Facebook app no longer crashes.
Either option should work for you.
Thanks to you both.
Is there a way or version that will not require the 'faking'?
Have you tried using LBE Privacy Guard to block the Facebook GPS request?

Thanks I'll give that a try as well.
LBE works like a charm! I had no idea that that was what's crashing FB. Thanks for the tip!

Use Facebook Without Messenger App (Android Phones) Newest Version

Just wanted to share with you guys a pretty easy way to use Facebook without actually using Messenger, no root needed as well. I am using latest beta and works fine.
This should work on all Android devices.
1) Download newest facebook version if you haven't
2) Download Messenger yes it's needed but don't turn it on at all
3) Download from Playstore Superlock Package Disabler (activate it as an admin: to let it block apps) using it you can also block bunch of bloat
4) in Package Disabler block messenger
5) Profit! facebook will now open regular chat instead of using "messenger"
Let me know how it goes for yall
Or you just install the first version of FB messenger and never open it or even sign in and continue using Facebook like normal. Just turn off auto update for that app in the play store app. It's a lot smaller than the new messenger.apk and doesn't require a third party app. There is a thread in the main apps forum.
I just made a shortcut for fb for Google Chrome on my launcher. That way Facebook isn't running all the damn time in the background
bbeelzebub how do you install an earlier version? every time I try to install it, it asks if I would like to install an update to the built in application and then fails. do I have a wrong apk file or should I do something different. im running 5.0.1

Here is the one I used. I just installed like normal, went into the play store like I'm going to update and long pressed the menu key. Up comes the option to turn off auto updates for that app. Unchecked it. Then I went into the app menu on my phone and disabled notifications for the app period.
Hasn't bothered me since and I use FB for all my messaging needs without using messenger. I've never even opened the app. Make sure you uninstall any version of messenger you may have previously installed.
so far it worked great. hopefully it wont force me to upgrade thanks
Do you know of a way to take messenger and facebook out of google play so it wont update? I used to use TI backup but now I cant use that.

Go to the app in the play store where it gives you the option to update, long press the left capacitive button on the bottom, up should pop a men to disable autoupdate for that app.

Default alternatives [ALE-L21, Android 6.0, EMUI 4.0, C432B550, Dual SIM]

Hi all,
I decided to change an SMS app to 3rd party, Chomp SMS for example. I granted all permissions and set it to be default message app. From time to time it reverts to a stock app and when I open the Chomp, it suggests to make it default again and again. It was the same before with Android 5.0.1, EMUI 3.1, B170. P8lite is very aggressive with killing unused apps too. Similar problems are with 3rd party background services, for example with a call recording apps. They are killed sooner or later. It is like P8lite does not like 3rd party apps. Can anybody help?

I am using google's messenger messaging app and I didn't found any issue like you are telling.
Have you checked your messaging app as protected from settings ?

No, I haven't protected the app, because I think it has nothing to do with being default. But maybe it is a good idea anyway. I'll do it.
By the way, my app is OK from yesterday.

Screen overlay???

So I got a replacement phone today. I can't use most of my downloaded apps. It says I have to turn off screen overlay.
It keeps telling me to change my settings. Ugh. I've Googled advice and I keep reading things about disabling lux for example but I don't have that app..
I've also read if I go into my app manager and click on more it should allow me to "draw over" and this isn't an option on my phone..

It's a message from latest security policy from Google. It was introduced in latest update.
When you open an app and this app asks for any kind of permission like access contact, storage or location, you have to make sure that there is no app running on top of everything. This is for your security because this app can answer for you without your permission.
Example: if you have a Messenger chat head open on top of the screen, Google will not let you answer if other application asks for permission. In this case just close the chat head.

A search may have resulted in a thread only a page back about the same problem.

Security app

So i tried to update my security app to v3.5.0, but after the update it always crashes. And then i proceeded to uninstall all the updates and then upgrade it back to v3.4.6, but now the game booster isn't working anymore, and every time i press force close in the app manager in the settings, it goes back to the app lists instead. Same as when i press clear data it also goes back yo the app list. Aside from that, the virus definitions also fails to update every time. I hope you can help me to fix this. Thanks!
