So I got a replacement phone today. I can't use most of my downloaded apps. It says I have to turn off screen overlay.
It keeps telling me to change my settings. Ugh. I've Googled advice and I keep reading things about disabling lux for example but I don't have that app..
I've also read if I go into my app manager and click on more it should allow me to "draw over" and this isn't an option on my phone..

It's a message from latest security policy from Google. It was introduced in latest update.
When you open an app and this app asks for any kind of permission like access contact, storage or location, you have to make sure that there is no app running on top of everything. This is for your security because this app can answer for you without your permission.
Example: if you have a Messenger chat head open on top of the screen, Google will not let you answer if other application asks for permission. In this case just close the chat head.

In my market, it says i have all these apps not installed. But they are all installed. When i click on them it doesnt say install, it says open. The apps run fine n are in my drawer. Is there a way to fix this? Its just really annoying when my "Pro" keys arent being used. Like, titanium backup says im using the free version when i have the pro version installed, same for my launcher pro key.

Same thing with me... google maps, youtube, and a few others are in the Not installed section, but when you select them it says installed, and you only have the option to open. I'm assuming they are still being checked for updates when I open Market... at least I hope they are. More annoying than anything else. Any thoughts?
Open up the "Manage Applications" and find Market. Clear the cache and reopen. Should show up now. Had to do that on mine.

I have the same problem, and agree it is annoying.
It started happening when I did a titanium backup after unlocking. So I guess there must have been some problem syncronizing with market after.
I have solved the problem by uninstalling the applications that were listed as needing updates even though they were already updated. And when reinstalled, the notification went away. It's not a very elegant way of fixing the problem, I know.
If anyone else has a better solution, please advise.
I learned this method from another forum (can't remember where); it always works for me:
Exit all applications on the phone
Home > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All
Market: Clear Cache, Clear Data (OK)
Google Services Framework: Clear Cache, Clear Data (OK)
Reboot your phone
Open Market app and Accept the TOS
Market > Settings > Content filtering > Set level > Show all apps (OK)
Market > My Apps: no more missing apps, or false positives for updates
I've tested this many times with the new Market app on my AT&T phone in both stock GB and piCRUST. It always fixes the display of installed apps within the Market app itself. But the list of apps showing on the Market web site under My Account (https://market.android.com/account) may not be immediately updated with the results. Sometimes the Market web site will be updated later rather than sooner, or only partially rather than completely. But this local fix will usually affect the web listing to at least some degree.
(Space reserved for future rant on market web site lameness...)
Did it, now i get a server error everytime i open the market. Just reinstall apk of new market?
EDIT: just used task killer to kill it all then retried n it worked. All my apps are saying installed. Thanks so much.

I see that error occasionally after using this fix, but I also sometimes see it after re-flashing the phone, and after other seemingly unrelated actions. It usually goes away for me if I just turn on wireless first before opening the Market app (no need to reinstall it). I think it's related to some error in the app or settings initialization, and not specific to this clean-up routine or anything else.
And yes, I've found that using a task killer also seems to help. Maybe indicative of another app blocking the Market from opening correctly at first run? I don't know, but once it goes away it doesn't seem to come back.

Got it. Ive had to re do this fix after my phone shuts off, so its not permanent on my device. It might be for you, either way, it fixes it for awhile.

One other thing that will confuse the Market about what's kosher: using a non-standard LCD density.
In my case I had hard-coded build.prop to set ro.sf.lcd_density=300 and ever since I did that the Market website kept telling me that most of the apps I'd previously installed were not compatible with my Atrix 4G(!) My workaround was to revert to the default ro.sf.lcd_density=240 and then use the "LCDDensity" app to temporarily set it to 300. Whenever I need to go to the Market for something I just reboot the phone first and it reverts back to the default setting in build.prop.
If you've got it the other way around (e.g. build.prop is using a non-default setting, and you're using LCDDensity to override this back to the default), then that might explain why you're seeing this Market mischief return on reboot.
Even if you're not using LCDDensity (or you're using something else like "LCD Density Changer" which can make these changes permanent), you might want to check your current LCD density. Ditto for other property settings that might not be using their defaults.

Since yesterday I've been getting ads that pop up over any and every app when I start them.
I've had this happen from an app I installed once before and uninstalling fixed it, but this time I tried uninstalling everything I've installed or updated in the past 2 weeks but they still keep popping up.
And none of the ad detectors can find these type of ads so does anyone know how to track the source?

You can try this:
- Install Shortcut Master app.
- Open Menu > Capture Shortcut. Here you can select 'Manually capture' and 'Auto capture', which one is suitable for you.
That way you can capture the shortcut when the ads appear. You can also know which app that the ads belong to.
i have the same problem, when i unlock th phone appear chrome window with ads, or suddenly a window over any aplication that i use inthat moment.

Tried today to update a bunch of apps that aren't available in the play store, but can't install them. The install/update menu shows however the Install button seems disabled, I can only but cancel for every app.
It must be something wroing with my phone, installing from adb works.

Are you using a screen filter app like twilight/screen filter etc.? Because of security measures it wont let you install anything while an app interferes with the display. Try turning it off and it should work.

Yes, it was that. I had enabled the app Bluelight Filter for Eye Care for pleasure. After disabling it temporarily from notification bar I could install any app again!! :fingers-crossed: (I already had enabled unknown sources, in case someone asks). I can't be so happy, was about to hard reset the phone.

So when I open my flip cover and have no Internet access, I get a textbox saying there is no network, check network and try again. So I guess an app is always trying to connect to Internet. But I don't know from which app this comes so I can't turn it off. Is there a log out something so I can see which app gives this textbox?

I don't know about a log, but one way to tell would be to go to Settings-connections tab- Data Usage. Any app that appears in the list uses data. Then you can look at each one and see its foreground/background usage. If the app uses background data, then it's a possible culprit.
It's not tge easiest method, but it would be a heck of a lot better than uninstalling apps one by one to find the one using data.

Like I said, it isn't the best solution, but it'll be better than uninstalling apps one at a time.
What you need to do is start at the top of the (which are apps using the most data). Tap the app and look at the amount of background data being used. If it's 0.0, then that app isn't using data in the background. If it's some other amount, it is and you can check the "Restrict Background Data" option. This will prevent the app from using background data until you unchecked that option. Then test to see if the message pops up. If so, then that app wasn't the culprit, so uncheck the background data option and go the next app in the list. Repeat.
Hint: start with the Google apps in the list. I suspect Google Services, but I could be wrong.

I found the app! It was the app that came with the flip cover. It's a led cover (smart shell for Note 4) but I still get the message. Even with the background data restricted. Can I completely make sure this app doesn't access Internet cause it really doesn't need it. When I turn off my phone or delete data for the app it doesn'tshow the message for a while.... But after a while it's back....

So I'm guessing that that's a 3rd party (non-Samsung) led cover?
I have no experience with them personally, but I've read quite a few issues with people using 3rd party LED covers. Especially when on Lollipop.
I don't really know how to restrict an app from using FOREGROUND data, so I did a quick Google search.
"If you don't have root access on the device, then you can use mobiwol to control the access various apps have to the Internet. Mobiwol creates a 'virtual' VPN connection on the device which allows control of the individual app connections. However, although the app starts when the device starts it is possible that there may be a brief period prior to Mobiwol executing in which apps could get Internet access despite the Mobiwol configuration."

Other than that, Android doesn't natively support restricting a specific app from using any type of data, other than simply shutting down data for the entire phone.

I found an xposed module to solve it I guess... No message so far! Xprivacy.... Works great... Off course you have to be rooted and have xposed installed.. But thanks man!!

I tried resetting all permissions and such, but the problem persists. It is truly annoying and I am on the verge of breaking my stupid phone, so can anyone tell me how to fix it please?

Only way I've found around it is to go to settings, apps, app manager, then in the upper right corner select apps that can appear on top. In that screen, choose the drop-down with the apps with permission granted, then ungrant each one individually. After going back and getting permission for the new app, you can go back and reactivate screen overlay for each app if you want.

Facebook Messenger usually causes this (chat heads), just force stop it and do what you want. The app "Screen Equalizer" causes it too if you happen to use it.
I have tried both these things but the error just kept coming back. I ended up reinstalling the ROM and now it works fine.

It is a security policy from Google. You can't grant permission if another app is open on top of current app. Like chat bubbles notifications in Facebook Messenger.
The reason is that the app can grant permission for you without your consent. You have to identify what is open on top of everything and close it before granting permission.

Additionally the edge effect on the blackberry PRIV trips this error message. Maybe the edge on Samsung does similar.
For some reason it only happens on Renovate Edge ROM for me. I reinstalled Renovate last night and got the error, and I fixed it by disabling (unchecking) all the apps that can draw over others and rebooting my device. Before the reboot, it's as though nothing changed, so make sure to reboot if you get that error.
