KitKat just officially released. It is specially optimized for older devices with 512MB RAM, just like our HD2.
http://developer.android.com/about/versions/kitkat.html
That sounds like an extremely good news, maybe it's time for me to start using my HD2 again.
Considering one of the main pushes for kitkat is that it is built for devices with 512mb of ram, I think it could be very good for the HD2
I seriously hope HD2 development will be revived by KitKat.
HD2 development is going slower and slower as the day goes by...

I too hope that somebody brings stable 4.4 onto the HTC HD2 as that will make it much more usable than current ported 4.3 version.
I am still using my HTC HD2 full time simply because no other device can do what it can do.
It really is an epic device and if we can bring 4.4 with only 512 MB RAM requirement then it will really fly.

rubbish statement tbh the phone is still by far top spec compared to the cheap rubbish that cell operators offer on new deals
compared to a sg2 or htc one v its still good value
dam i hope some devs port it over as we can have both nand and sd builds now any ways
im sure its a lighter build anyway evin if its not there is s shed load of turd that can be trimmed to lighting the rom
hopefully its available soon.
The new KitKat seems to be the perfect OS (according to the info) and I hope it will be ported to the HD2 soon
I think some dude is working on it.

Not only is KitKat optimized for 512 MB RAM devices like the HD2, it also gets rid of the VM so the HD2 should fly with 4.4 !
Hope somebody is working on this as I can't wait to test it out.
It really won't be laggy, I hope, due to so many optimizations in 4.4 for slower / older phones.
yea i would really like too, to use the HD2 again. So I do really hope someone will make a stable 4.4 rom for it
The issue with the hd2 and all the other snapdragon s1 devices is that the adreno 200 is awful. It can't handle the gpu acceleration of ICS and newer at all. Compare the performance of a nexus one to a nexus s on an ICS or jellybean rom. The difference is gigantic.

I'm a bit disappointed about the KitKat. I managed to get it booting on my hTC Incredible S: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2519414, and it doesn't as fast as I thought. I have to say, it's a bit laggy. I hope, it'll get better if I put some optimalizations in, but the first experiences aren't so good.

Well, I don't use apps that need GPU acceleration so that is not a big problem. Or, turn off all animations on JB interface.

Well, it still has to be faster than JB, I bet ! It is now RAM optimized and gets rid of the virtual machine so that means that old devices like our HTC HD2 with slow CPU and little RAM will work even smoother now.
The overall GUI may still not be that smooth due to Adreno 200 but individual apps should theoretically run much smoother than before like browser or office or other low resource apps.
JB is nice but KitKat will be even better, if somebody makes a stable 4.4 CM11 rom for Leo !
Check this out, runs really good.
It will give a new life for you phone

There are definitely some improvements like sound quality although arise team are porting that to nougat. It also will have better battery but not right now and it is buggy at the moment. Luckily it has already been rooted. I will be using Chads uber and faster angler assuming he ports it to O.

Awesome, I'd like someone to make that a mod for nougat! Quick question about making a build though. When I make a build and type mka bacon it will go on for at least a day and fails to make some targets and says try increasing the heap size because of the Jack server. Is 8gb ram not enough to build some or any roms? Thanks

I've built with 4GB which is the minimum required. I'd suggest you have a look at the thread "Building PureNexus" in 6P Android Development subforum. You probably need to tweak some jack parameters and use cccache to speed up the build. Incremental build might get down to an hour or two.

Okay thanks, I already did the ccache stuff and some Jack stuff but I'll look into it a bit. Thanks
I think it's too early for me to give an opinion. It isn't even in alpha yet. Seems stable for a dev preview is all I can really say at this point. I like where they're going with the sand boxing apps, no more shady apps draining battery like crazy *cough Facebook cough*
For me the battery life is brutal, cpu seems to get stuck at 1555 quite often. Tried going to a different governer but other than powersave they all seem to do that. Trying powersave with an input/touch boost to get rid of the lags at least.
Otherwise it is pretty good, I like where they are going.
It's a very early build to have a good judgement on Android O. The 3rd build would probably be a good indicator on what's going to be the future of android. Anything else is just a placebo effect.

Might take a look in the development threads where extensive activity is taking place. This is far from a device that receives little attention.
too bad if nougat is available for Moto G4 Play. but nougat is not supported yet.. xposed and magisk lack of modules
Some people don't care about xposed or magisk... All I want is even better performance (better RAM management/CPU usage) and better battery life (Doze on the go).

Interesting comment. If truely seeking those characteristics then Android 6 is almost manditory as few Nougat ROMs offer the control available via Xposed.
Agreed 'Doze on the Go' is essential for battery life but easily implemented on Marshmallow via numerous well regarded apps or (ideally) Xposed modules.
Nothing against Android 7.x. It's an excellent base that beings a nice suite of incremental refinements. Unfortunately, CPU/RAM management is no better than native Android 6.x and the lack of Xposed support makes further tuning more difficult (arguably impossible) at the user level.
Android 8 does seem to offer some improvement resource management. Be interesting to see how it plays out in the real world, especially on back ports.
I don't think that Android as an OS can get any better, I mean what else can they implement in upcoming versions? This very cheap device is capable of doing about anything that I need almost instantly. No lags, acceptable day and a half battery life (I don't play games). I expect it to be even better with nougat. Now this is way off topic, but why do people need 4/6/8 GB of RAM, and milion cores qualcomm 8xx CPU (except maybe for games)? I've been using this SD410 from 2013 for over a 6 months now, and it does everything perfectly fine, no one lag... For 150$...

Appears you define 'near perfection' relative to your own experiences and expectations. I could offer various analogies but assume you get the point.
I own numerous Android device with CPUs ranging from SD410 at the low end to SD820 (mid range); RAM goes from ½GB to 4GB. I enjoy each device for the allocated tasks. Things would be much different if I swapped them around.
Do your homework on Android 8. There is a lot in the pipeline, especially for newer devices that come with O pre-installed. In contrast, Nougat was a relatively minor tweak to the already solid Marshmallow. Most of the newer functionality Android 7 has been available since KitKat via Xposed modules. Google just decided to bake it in (thankfully) but still left a lot of goodies out.

Running stock Marshmallow on (bootloader) unlocked XT1607. While I have Xposed and a few key modules installed phone is not my daily driver so may consider stock Nougat if there is an obvious benefit (not seeing it now); AOSP and Lineage are also contenders. Biggest concern is inability to control some protected processes w/o Xposed. At present I score a 0.2% per hour average idle drain rate with all radios, full location services and push mail/messaging enabled. Would also miss UI controls offered via Edge and GravityBox.

No update yet. Still waiting on the xt1607.
Also still waiting for xt1607. I wonder why India and other countries got theirs way earlier. You'd think they would release them at the same time. What's the difference? 1 sim vs dual SIM?
My Device has only 2gb ram, some rom is fast but with bugs, some rom are almost bugless but slow. Please refer me some rom which are smooth in 2gb ram and almost bug free.
I use official LineageOS 15.1. It's bugfree for me, and for multitasking I did some changes in Kernel Adiutor:
increase Z-RAM size to 770 MB (because the stock size in MIUI is 768 MB)
disable adaptive low memory killer
set swappiness to 60
This way multitasking is perfect, I don't experience any reloads at all, there aren't any slow-downs, and the phone runs smooth.
Pie roms don't run smoothly in 2gb ram.
I tried a couple of Oreo roms but they didn't worked smoothly other than Lineage 15.1.
Los 15.1 is the best one for 2gb ram varient.

Running smooth till now. Didn’t do any heavy task. You can ask me to test if there is something particular way to load.
Bug: Found one till now. When switch from WiFi to cellular data. Cellular data doesn’t connect to internet. Need to restart or turn on then off airplane mode. Then it works.
I just want to know how does it run while normal tasks? Like streaming Youtube and heavy usages of social media.
Even I will try it after you say so.

What is the recommend ROM the community suggests to be running on a Nexus 6P in 2021?
All CPU cores are intact and phone is working like new after replacing the battery.
I was hoping to freshen up the dated Stock 8.1 ROM even tho it is rooted and whatnot its kinda feeling a bit old and slow
Also keep in mind that this is my "daily driver" so to speak so nothing to experimental / unreliable
Thanks in advance
removed, see below
Would love to know as well?
I had "AOSiP 11 Ravioli for N6P", which was Android 11, but not running that well.
Now running ResurrectionRemixOS, but it is also laggy as soon as my RAM is full (which happens very fast).
Any good suggestions?
Do I need to go back to Android 9 to have a lagfree experience?

I've tried all available ROMs ever released for 6p, from 6.0 all the way to 11. Nothing beats Stock oreo + Elemental X kernel (unrooted) i repeat unrooted! i know i've been a root user since SuperSU cyno days but i just noticed that installing magisk make my phone sluggish. I got to sacrifice on emoji fonts mod i've been using for years, but this is the conclusion i reached. This is my personal experience, Others may vary.

The current ROM I'm running and absolutely love the battery life/performance as this device is strictly on WiFi for Spotify/Netflix/Hulu, Location and NFC on for Coin XYO app, and for camera use.
