So, Samsung finally released Lollipop for just about every Note 4 variant now but, after reading a lot of people suffering from huge battery drain, overheating and random crashes, I'm just wondering if I should bother updating to lollypop myself.
I'm still on stock 4.4.4 (with a fair amount of mods) and my phone runs exactly how I want it to. The only ever problem I have is sometimes contacts crashes, but it's not even done that for about a week.
What are the advantages (if any) of upgrading to lollipop?
Let's see if you can convince me to part with my very stable and perfectly functional modded 4.4.4.

BOC5 works perfectly fine here and is a lot smoother than any KitKat version that I used prior. If you play a lot of games then chances are you might run into the GPU bug, but other than that I see no problems in going with the newest Android version available. :good:
I got N910C. No root.
These are some facts about KK & LP according to my own experience.
KitKat 4.4.4:
Had volume spike answering bug (mentioned somewhere on XDA),
Had read only SD card problem (due to Android restrictions),
Lollipop 5.0.1:
Solved both above mentioned issues of KK,
Faster and smoother than KK,
No crashes, freezes, hickups, overheating - rock stable,
Better RAM management,
Better or equal battery consumption,
Material design (I love it, somebody else may not)
1-2 second answering ''hello hello'' bug (caller can't hear me 1-2 sec. after my answer). I don't know is anybody else has this bug,
GPU throttling bug (when phone reaches about 50 C some games stutter and benchmarks like Antutu show low results due to lower GPU frequencies)
Everything is perfect except this. This should be fixed ASAP in next update.
Be aware of this and consider eventually upgrade to Lollipop
Just in case: lots of shortcut apps (e.g. pulling down the notification bar!) don't work on Samsung's iteration of Lollipop anymore. That's still one of the biggest issues at least for me!
I have updated my UK ee phone to the German BOC3 and I have to say I'm very impressed with it. I have done a dirty flash and I haven't encountered a single issue. My battery life seems better, the system settings feel cleaner and the general visual tweaks and nice. Looking forwards to the btu

Experience with 5.01 Lollipop Update, i have had no issues with Lollipop
Lp fixed the Bluetooth stuttering bug for playing music in my car via Bluetooth.
The notifications are great and usually appropriate...
No battery crash or menu problems on Bell.

So I'm looking to buy the Moto G 2014, and every review I've seen so far describes the performance as "OK, Fine, Not bad", even though my sister has a Galaxy S3 Neo (Which is running the same SOC but with a 0.5GB more ram) and the performance is stunning. So what do you think about it ? and if a ROM can make it even a better runner be sure to tell me.

Moto G xt1068 will be best in this price range..
It has got a lot of development.
Performance on Stock is fine, but the animations smoothness are crap, partially because Stock is 5.0.2, partially motorola's fault. Install an AOSP ROM (not CM12.1, it has some unnescessary things) and a decent kernel and then the performance will be way better. Its a good performance overall, for a 2013 mid range CPU.

How much do you think it's ok to spend on extra 0.5gb ram? USD 20-25 I think its ok, but how much I will pay to not have touchwiz on my phone it's priceless.
I'm wondering what people describe as fine. I had a Nexus 5 before and a friend's original Moto G seemed decent, so when mine broke I bought a Moto G (Gen 2.)
I've had it a few weeks and it seems to get laggier and laggier. Most apps take up to a full second to load, there are a couple that take multiple seconds. It often can't keep up with how fast I type and will lag hard so I'll have to stop and wait otherwise it will miss letters or start thinking I'm swiping and just input random words. Most of my friends who have upgraded to lollipop have complained about how laggy it is (but I thought it was supposed to run on even less resources.) What I want to know is, is there actually something wrong or is this the expected performance of a Moto G running lollipop? I'm finding it nearly unusable. I'm just running the stock rom cause it didn't have a skin. Do I need a custom rom for decent performance?

Stock 5.0.2 Lollipop, doesn't matter if is Titan Prime or Vanilla stock, it will be laggy, because its Android 5.0.2, if you want a decent performance on Lollipop yes, you will need a 5.1.1 Custom ROM, i think AOSP by LuK1337 has a great performance. Or just flash a 4.4.4 ROM (NOT CM11, its a bit more laggy than stock 4.4.4), i'm using PAC 4.4.4, Its not that stable, but it have 60FPS Animations and a great performance.

No Sir, you're absolutely wrong. I tried out AOSP, Quantum OS and even PA. Nothing comes close to how smooth Titan Prime is.
I get 20,000+ on antutu without even tweaking the kernel settings. And that says a lot.

Hi, I know exactly how you feel. I had a Nexus 5 and a OnePlus One before my G (Gen 2). Especially, after lollipop it had become so laggy, sometimes, I felt like throwing my phone. I rooted and started flashing roms on the G after I got done with college in the first week of April, and I haven't felt frustrated ever again. Great phone, with great development. If you want a rom that is fool proof, download Titan Prime 1.0.3 and use it with Stellar Kernel 5.0. (Also Xposed works perfectly on it)

I got a new device ~4 months ago. At the beginning it was running super fast, but after a while I started noticing a lot of app crashes and the phone became laggy.
I am running on Android 6.0 with nova launcher.
After an issue with the headphones jack I got a new phone from Motorola. Now I have both and I wanted to test one against each other. I ran AnTuTu benchmark 6.0.1 on both and the results are interesting:
I get 90784 on the new device and only 46741 on the older device. I really want to know what I did in order to cut it's performance by half to avoid from doing that again. So I guess my question is how can I analyze why this drop of performance happened ?

Hello, so I wonder, if there is already any solution, like flashing fix via TWRP for EMUI 5.0 poor ram management? Because performance right now is terrible... If anyone know also about Lineage OS, is it possible to get latest version of it, because Meticulus deleted all, last time I had it, I didn't had contacts, Snapchat camera was bugged, only pics worked, video was like super glitched... Anyone know anything?
Try a factory reset, or root apps like L Speed that do little tweaks to improve performance. I use EMUI 5.0 and find performance to be just great.
Certainly not flagship level, but way way better than many phone in the same price range.
Ram management is terrible for me, often when I open a link over tapatalk and get back to tapatalk it starts from beginning.
Well, coming from an S7E, the major issue I have with the G6 is how slow it is when opening contacts, to apps, to camera. I still have my S7E and everything opens faster on it. I know the SD 821 is quite capable, so it must be the LG UI that's making it slow.
I have a couple of questions,
1) I have the 870DS and looking at the trend I may never be able to root. So can someone who has an US version with a custom rom tell me if it has made the phone any faster?
2) And also does anyone here know at all if the 870DS version has any hopes in future for unlocking the bootloader?

Unlocking the bootloader no, unless it gets cracked which I doubt. Has not happened since the G4.
Custom roms can make the phone faster because they remove a lot of features and run stock Android but almost always the Camera app will really be bad on custom roms (unless based on stock rom).
I have a Pixel and G6. Pixel is known to be probably the smoothest Android phone to this day.
The G6 does not really lag behind it at all. The animations are smoother on the Pixel but thats about it.
I had some intial lag the first day with the device but thats about it.
If yours is lagging consider a factory reset maybe.

Do a factory reset in the settings. This helped a lot of people who have lag issues. There is an extra thread for this.
Do a backup of your apps before doing it!

Have you tried possibly a different launcher?
As well as debloating what apps you can?
Also there's always the options in developer mode that IMO truly help with ram allocation and overall speed.
Yes the LG G6 should be lag free and smooth just like the Google Pixel or the One Plus 3T as they share the same powerful processor. I think atm most non Pixel phones are stuck with just Android 7.0 where as Pixel might be on 7.1.1 since 7.1.1 might be better on performance or smoother than 7.0. Once the amazing LG G6 gets 7.1.1 in the future I guess we should see some difference in smoothness or performance. As for unlocked bootloader or root for the LG G6 or any LG flagships, always get the international version single SIM like the LG H870 which already has custom ROMs and TWRP recovery. I don't think the dual SIM will get bootloader unlocked. LG did great optimization on it's LG UX 6.0 which is fast and smooth and is better than SD 835 or Exynos 8895 equipped Galaxy S8 and it's slow, laggy TouchWiz. Imagine the upcoming LG V30 running on Android 7.1.2 on top of LG UX 6.0 with SD 835 would make it the best favorite Android phone of all time! Go to Settings/Developer Options/tick on "Force GPU Rendering" should make the beast smoother or snappier. If root available try L Speed/Entropy/fstrim apps found on Play Store.

This doesn't really make it faster, just makes animations move faster, which personally looks worse to me.
You must be kidding, the G6 is the smoothest running phone i bought to date. I have the 870DS with around 30 apps installed.
My previous Phones were the Note 2, S5 and Note 4. This is what i call laggdroid, horrible...

Okay, so i formatted my phone and set it as a new device instead of restoring apps from the previous device. This has over all made the device a tad bit faster and i am kind of happy about it now. Also, my main issue was, the dialer/contact app would always open almost a second late behind my S7E, after the reset it became a bit faster but i was still not happy, So just tried a third party dialer app and trust me it works like a charm!!! Now the dialer app opens as quick as it does on my S7E Since that's the thing i use my phone mostly for, it was so irritating that it lagged a second or half a second behind my S7E. Thankfully now it's all fine
Also, reducing the animation speed makes it more jerky and ugly and it doesn't really speed up the device at all. Hopefully as and when we get 7.1 update, the UI may be smoother
Android 8.0 will fix all lag and battery issues I'm super sure of it its only a matter of time
I honestly think G6 is pretty smooth, this is coming from S8. There ARE times that it stutter, but it's been the LG way unfortunately. If there's one lag I could remove, it's the camera launching lag.

I believe there's a fix for camera launch lag, you just have to look for it.
Also, Fulmics rom makes this phone faster and smooth as baby's butt, so if you're rooted and would like an amazing OEM-based rom, this is it

I agree, the G6 is already smooth as it is, without root and without a custom ROM but knowing me, I went ahead to install Fulmics ROM & boy oh boy it is smooth.

Had it on my G3 and since then i don't even miss stock android roms anymore.
I also find the G6 to be a nice smooth phone. But I also have issues with a slow and laggy dialer app. I don't think it's then phone in that case, I think it's the actual app that isn't properly coded/built. Just doesn't seem that good.
I use Google contacts instead, does the job fine, but i left the stock dialer. I rarely use it, usually make calls from contacts, so the occasional time i DO use it, isn't a big deal.
